It's been about a month since my haircut and I'm still so disappointed with the outcome and experience. Since it had been a while since my last haircut, I opted to book a "master stylist" (Alexa) vs. junior. Turned out to be a gigantic waste of money and time. I arrived at my 1:00 appt on-time and was seated immediately and told Alexa would be over soon. 20 minutes went by with no sign of anyone - finally, one of the assistants came by and asked what I wanted to get done. Another 5 minutes go by and a woman comes up and says ok, let's go get your hair washed. Turns out it was Alexa - no hello, no intro, no apology for running late, nothing. We had pleasant enough chit chat that I was willing to overlook the less than warm welcome. However, all she ended up doing with my long, straight hair was cutting it bluntly, with no layers or style as I asked. Literally just a straight chop of 6 inches, and I found multiple sections of hair that I later had to trim myself because they were longer than the rest. I'm pretty sure my husband could have done the same job or better and saved me about $200 (because I stupidly still tipped). Alexa had me out the door by 2:00 - conveniently back on time for the rest of her schedule. I called a few days later and left a message about my disappointing haircut and asked if anything could be done. No one ever called back. Not surprising given my experience in the salon - they clearly don't care about client experience or satisfaction. There are many other options in MV, Marin, or SF. Highly recommend you book elsewhere. read more

I am in love with AP Luxe. I visited today for the first time and was blown away by how gorgeous the salon is. It is so elegant and modern, I immediately felt relaxed. My appointment was with Karina - She greeted me with a super cute drink menu and brought me a glass of champagne. After a long day at work, I was thrilled. She spent awhile talking to me about what I wanted and offered some good suggestions too. I've had a few issues with my hair over the past year, but she made me feel so much better and her blow out skills were perfection. First of all I need to say that AP Luxe's new location is fantastic! If you are looking for a luxury hair salon experience in a very convenient Mill Valley location, then you need to check out AP Luxe. I have been seeing Karina at AP Luxe for almost a year now and I can't say enough good this about her. I need grey coverage in addition to my hair cuts, and Karina is fantastic at both. The color is always very natural and yet I get really good coverage. Also, Karina gave me some great hair cut and style recommendations and she has successfully freed me from my old and tired former hair style (much to my girlfriend's joy). Thanks Karina! Ownership at AP Luxe is great as well. Paige and Amanda have really done and continue to do a fantastic job with the vision of the salon. In short, AP Luxe is great for both men and women (my aforementioned girlfriend is a client as well and loves the whole crew). Love this Salon!! After moving from Southern California It took me months of searching to find a good salon in Marin. So many salons in Marin appeal to an older demographic and I had a heck of a time finding someone that really knows how to do balyage and ombre. I see Alexa for my color and Alex for haircuts. Both are great! What I loved even more is that they are efficient. I used to have to spend all day at the salon for balyage and cut. At AP luxe they get the job done quickly without cutting corners. Paige is a miracle worker! I have been to so many hair stylists that classify themselves as "blonde specialists" and not one of them got it right until I saw Paige, she not only corrected what they had done but got my hair to a place that was better than I expected. AP Luxe runs like a well oiled machine, everyone working together, knowing what they need to be doing without direction, great vibes all around. For how much correction and processing my hair required I was in and out quicker than regular appointments I had at other salons and the best part is that the way she smudged my roots there can be more time in between appointments. I wish I was writing a more favorable review. I've been a client of Amanda's for over a year. I was so thrilled to have found her because she was local. Her haircuts were great. Service was great until this last time. I had started getting hair extensions from her recently. She had quoted me $200 plus the cost of dying my roots $100. She said she would install about 20 extensions. The color and extensions were great! I had about 20 pieces in my hair in a beautiful and fun blue color. I did though have to bring to her attention that she overcharged me $70 and she issued that as a credit for my next service--I was fine with that. When it came time to refresh my extensions, at no point in time did she say that there would be less extensions or any changes so I figured that it was just refreshing the color. I went for my appointment and when I got home, I realized that she had only placed 9 extensions total!?! Another issue was my roots. Since I only have very few white hairs in like 2 areas (like 20 strands total), I asked if she could do a partial on the roots but she said it would still be the same price and she would still recommend that I treat the entire head. I called her to let her know that I was dissatisfied with the outcome as I had paid the same for less. She said "sorry" and admitted that she placed half the number because she realized that it was more labor intensive than she thought. At no point in time did she tell me that this was an issue. Instead of making things right for not being upfront, she offered to charge me another $200 to add more pieces like I had had before. I let her know that I wish she had told me beforehand. If she told me the labor would be more, I would have had the choice to pay for it or if it was cost prohibitive then perhaps I would not redo the extensions. Sad to say, but she's lost a loyal customer. Amanda is young and a great hairstylist. But this is no way to do business, at least not in my book. For 2.5 hours I spent $442 ($112 for haircut, $130 for roots, $200 extensions) on my hair only to be disappointed. Not to mention last time she overcharged me $70 and I had to call and let her know that I was overcharged!! Since that time, I've gone to another local stylist who I will be working with moving forward. She gave me a quote and her prices for extensions are much more reasonable and she has a great reputation. Basically the competitor for the same price will install 5x the number of extensions that I have now and include my haircut for the price that I walked out with from Amanda. She will also just touch up roots where they need to be done for $50-not force me to do my whole head for double the price. I've also consulted with my old stylist to see if this was service was unreasonable and she was happy to hear that I found someone local but even felt that I was taken advantage of and she is just trying to upsell her service. Buyer beware! Wish Amanda had been willing to make things right but sadly she was unwilling to, even for a loyal customer--I was SOL. I had trusted her wholeheartedly with my hair and am so disappointed with the outcome. I definitely advise getting a price quote beforehand otherwise you may be surprised at the end. Or, even if you do get the price, you may be paying full for only half of a service like me!!! Good luck. read more

When something came up and had to re-schedule she let me know immediately, with enough time for me to change my schedule When something came up for me she was super flexible with rescheduling me. I am soo sorry this is so long overdue! Amanda literally saved my hair for my wedding. I had gone to another Mill Valley salon and ended up with orange streaks and the recommendation from them to purchase a $40 purple shampoo. (Umm what???) Amanda not only fixed my hair but made it the most perfect it has ever been and I will never go anywhere else. I constantly get compliments on my *natural blonde highlights* (not natural but 100% Amanda' skilled hand painting)! The best part is how low maintenance it is... I love this salon. It's high-end quality without the snootiness. Amanda has taken me from frumpy to fabulous (imho) in a short amount of time after being way too caught up in my career. I came searching for Amanda specifically after I saw all the amazing photos posted at her previous salon in Larkspur. The salon named AP after Amanda and Paige says it all. They give off the vibe of power duo and do really amazing work! After a long hiatus on doing hair color (due to anxiety of fighting a good beautician) I took the plunge and was pleasantly surprised to arrive at their - just opened chic salon. Amanda was really sweet and attentive when talking about her bayalage game plan on my horribly grown out roots. She's been coloring hair for a very long time and knows her craft. I left with beautiful colors and seamless sombre hair -- unlike tacky stripey highlights. Normally I dislike when colorist blow dry & style my hair after but I let her do her thing and I left with beautiful beach curls (how I normally style.) Ap Luxe has Keratase products a plenty. Left with heat protectant creme by recommendation. Not sure how I've been surviving without this product. Though prices are pricey -- you get what you pay for and I am definitely pleased with the results. This was, hands down, the absolute WORST visit I have ever had to a hair salon. My daughter and I booked hair and make up appointments for my son/her brothers wedding. Got there at 10 AM. At 12:30, my make up had not even been started. They did curl my hair...that's it. Curled it. Period. I could have done it better myself. And they never did my make up...we had to leave!My daughter's experience was also terrible. The stylist actually tried talking her out of what she wanted. Turns out the stylist couldn't even braid hair! And her make up took forever...we were repeatedly assured we would be done and out of there by noon. It was awful. The entire experience. If you have a big event to attend and a schedule to keep, this is NOT the salon for you. Very disappointing. This place made for a very stressful and hectic day when it could have, and should have been wonderful. So glad I can say I will NEVER return to this poor excuse for a hair salon. Brittany is a literal god-send. After going to a well-known salon in the city and asking for highlights and walking out with literally a head of orange hair (see Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland), my boss's wife recommended AP Luxe Salon. In all honestly, I had no idea what they were going to be able to do. I was open to coloring my whole head purple or blue if I needed to - but Brittany just kept telling me she'd fix and. AND SHE SURE DID! Modern day Jesus - turning water into wine except orange hair into perfect highlights. All my friends were shocked to see the change and asked how she did it - and, to be honest, I seriously don't know. I got the worst service I have ever received! I have had friends who went to Amanda previously and their hair looks great so I wanted to get my hair done by her. I asked to get my hair in a special way, showed her photos and Amanda told me she would do low lights, high lights, and a darker root color to achieve that look for me. I asked for pricing and she told me no more than $200. During the appointment she made comments about how the color won't stick to my hair (I was home bleached prior to the appointment with her). She even had her colleague come over and take a look. Amanda told me she had tried 3 times to do a darker root on me but that it won't stick. 3hrs later she blow dried my hair and curled it, I felt right away I wasn't happy with the result but wanted to give it a chance to see if it grew on me. She charged me $400!!!! I left the salon but still wasn't pleased with what she had done with my hair. I decided to contact her a couple of days later and tell her I was not happy with my hair and asked if she could somehow fix it. She told me that she could not fix it without charging me again. Needless to say I went to a different salon to fix it. The best part of this experience was the champagne I got, and I don't even like champagne! read more

I was recommended to Amanda from my son. He said I wouldn't be disappointed. He told me she was very good at what she does, that she's super nice. I was skeptical. Thinking your just a guy, my kid, what would you know. I made my appointment for a color and cut. I was nervously excited to go. I met Amanda. Who is absolutely adorable, as my son said. She discussed in detail what she felt was best. I am always open to leaving the decisions regarding color and cuts to the stylist. I like trying new things. Watching her apply the dye to my hair was like watching an artist. I know that sounds a little nuts on my part. But it's true. And the same goes for her cutting style. My hair is colored and cut.
