The quality of the technicians is great. However we are being bombarded with notices that we have not paid our bill. We have sent emails to tell them that we wrote the check on the day of the service and it was cashed the next day. We have offered to send proof. No answer from owner just more over due notices sent to us. Tried to call but no answer and mailbox was full. Never had this problem with previous owner. We needed lawn sprinkler valve maintenance in our suburban Lakewood yard. And we enjoyed great technical service from this company to fix our problems. After the initial installation of a series of valves during summer, 2024, and a new vacuum breaker system, we were delighted to get that accomplished. But that is where the good service stopped. Wanting to get advice on winterization of their newly installed system, as winter approached, we were disappointed to receive no replies after several requests over the course of two weeks during October, 2024. Soon, our 5-star rating fell to 3 stars. And after allowing for some sort of emergency on Apex's part, we continued to be patient and request their assistance with our system. To no avail. Apex has done my sprinkler activation/winterization for three seasons now. My first spring at my home, I had a lackluster service from a company that told me I had a leak but wasn't interested in taking the time to find the problem or fix it. We just hand-watered that zone (didn't run it) and called Apex to shut down that fall--the wrong time to troubleshoot a leak, so we let it go until the next spring. That spring, Apex found the issue, fixed it on the spot, and corrected some issues with our system that were not up to code (we'd noticed that previously, but the first company we hired just noted that it was bad work and said they'd work around it). Our system is fully operational and up to building codes now, which also makes it more efficient. But what I value most about Apex is their professionalism. I make my appointment online and receive an email confirmation. I also opt into text confirmations. They are clear about what they will do and what they expect of me: they text and email reminders of upcoming service, remind me that someone must be on the premises for the appointment, and that they will call before they arrive and that I must respond to confirm I'll be there. That's fair, and it means we all keep our appointment. They've been able to arrive early on a couple of appointments, and they call to make sure it's okay (it was) instead of just showing up. I was able to bring my dogs inside ahead of their arrival so it was safe for them. Every tech has been courteous and got the job done well but quickly. And in light of the pandemic, my most recent service was "no contact." The tech wore a mask and gloves, took contactless payment, and did not enter the house. (We turned the valve inside for the him.) I appreciated their attention to safety guidelines for my safety and for the safety of their staff. read more

Water pressure in the front yard went way down. So we had to water manually for a couple days. I found Apex Irrigation and read the reviews and decided to call them. I was lucky to obtain an appointment as soon as I did. On the day of the appointment the technicians, Sasha and Derek, called to tell me they could come earlier than expected. That was great news. Sasha and Derek showed up, greeted my dog with kindness, he talks a lot, but he is friendly. They invited Max to say hello and made friends. So, if you have a dog, there are no worries. I showed and explained the problem and they said no problem. Sasha and Derek replaced the diaphragm on one circuit so fast I was absolutely amazed. Then there was a sprinkler head in the front yard that was leaking badly. They dug it up, replaced the head, and confidently replace the sod. They mad it look so easy I was almost ashamed that I had called. But I'm an older person with som physical limitations and the job would have taken me three days, at least. Beware this company - stay away. The owner is unethical and doesn't tell the truth. Had appointments scheduled and he called to say he was refusing the work. Made a false claim that he didn't get paid the previous year, despite the fact he never did work on my property in the time he claimed. Never mind they collect when they service, so how could that be? Beware their terms of service, there are many hidden clauses. Definitely don't count on them to show up; this is no way to run a business. *Update* Response, given the snarky owner: Nobody lied to the owner. He sees fit to lambast my father's integrity in a public forum, even when I have the emails showing the interaction. He claims we misrepresented the status of our properties, when actually that's totally false. Dave lies habitually. Stay away. He claims non-payment on a property that had no service at that time. Making false statements about non-payment to a public entity is a crime. I've reported Dave and his company to the BBB; I encourage him not to respond further to this, subject to being reported to Denver business licensing, the Denver chamber of commerce and the police. We hired Apex to fix the sprinklers in our raised beds and move a zone after a fence was installed. They have a fancy website and appeared to be a reputable company, but after working with them I would recommend you find another company for your irrigation needs. They charge a premium price for sub-par work. The existing sprinklers in our beds were drip lines and Apex replaced them with misters. The tech assured us this was the best method and you assume they would know right? Um ... no. We have been forced to set the misters to run for much longer than the drip lines did but still the plants have been slowly dying because the water lands on the mulch, never actually soaks thru to the plants, and then just evaporates off of the top. We're spraying so much more water now and have lost multiple plants from lack of water! But it was obviously much easier to install the misters (and none of that savings was passed on to us on the price they charged). So now I know why the tech recommended them - he was simply lazy and dishonest. After the install, I continued to find pieces of cut pipe, sprinkler heads and other detritus that they just tossed on the ground and never cleaned up. The sod was replaced back in the trenches carelessly and I had to go out and re-do that work myself so the lawn could heal. They installed a sprinkler head where we couldn't open the gate when the sprinkler was running which I discovered later and then the same tech we had given a healthy tip to dragged his feet for weeks and complained about having to move it. He wanted us to just not use the gate when the sprinkler was on. Now this year the new zone is no longer working and they want to charge us AGAIN to replace it with 2 new zones because they claim our pressure is too low. It's the same pressure we had last year.. but they designed it wrong. I've learned more about it and you need to test the pressure and design your valves and run lengths to account for those variables. The tech didn't do any of that and just winged it.. and this is the result. When they came out to troubleshoot the zone, they left without turning the sprinklers back on and I was out of town so the already stressed lawn got even worse! And they also left the covers off of the valve boxes which I discovered weeks later. I suggest you avoid Apex and find someone that cares about their customers and wants your return business. read more

Very friendly and seemingly knowledgeable technicians -- However, I think the owner could use some help with standard business practices. - Extremely overpriced (I paid $520 for two sprinkler heads, 2 leaks and evaluation of my lighting and sprinkler system, followed by a $3,500 estimate to replace a portion of my sprinklers). - Be very careful with the promises made around the $100 fee to evaluate your system, this may not be refunded if they do work. - Be sure to not let them start work until you have a quote in hand - Be aware that you must be present at your property for the entirety of their time there to do the work and you may not have a clear understanding of what the amount of time will end up being It's unfortunate that they have poor business practices as their technicians seemed great. read more

Booked for a basic winterization for my sprinkler system. I liked the fact that I could book online and the tech that came out was on time and efficient. Where they went wrong was sending me a receipt informing me that they don't service rental properties/tenant occupied properties and to find another company in the future. Umm... this is MY home. I own it and I live here so I didn't appreciate the assumption that I was not the owner, not that it's any of their business, and I will happily take my business elsewhere. Booking the appointment for winterization was very easy to do online, and I received a reminder email the day before. They also sent a text about 45 minutes before they arrived. Both guys were polite and professional, even taking their shoes off (I hadn't asked them to, but they said 'we walk through mud all day') before entering the house. They had the sprinklers blown out and were on their way in less than 30 minutes. When I questioned why he hadn't brought it to my attention in the moment so I could have helped him get it right rather than only once he was leaving, he was all excuses and combative. When I assumed he was an employee, I cut his some slack but when I was told he is the owner, I realized he isn't just unprofessional, he is unethical. I had used Apex for about 2 years for both turn on and winterization services. Just had them out to turn on the sprinklers (after they were the ones to winterize it with no problem) and they said they were unable to turn them on because a piece was out of place. They began digging trying to find the piece and apparently once they found it and tried to mess with it, it just "fell off". I was informed that they think a shovel hit it 3 years ago and it just now had an affect on the piece. They suspected that a shovel hit it 3 years ago and just now it snapped off once they touched it. Instead of quoting to fix just that one piece - they said the whole manifold had to be replaced for 600-800 dollars even though they hadn't been able to test it due to this piece magically falling off. Have had 2 other companies come and look at it and they said there is no way this metal piece would just fall off but was forced off. They also quoted much more reasonable prices to fix the specific piece rather than the whole box. Not sure how this company wasn't able to address/see these issues when they turned the sprinklers off, but found all sorts when they came to turn them on - pieces don't just move like that in the middle of winter or snap off at the touch of a finger. Oh, and they are also now refusing to service us because immediate family of the owners live in the house full time rather than the owners themselves so they're considering it a rental property....but all of this wasn't an issue for the last 2 years before this issue happened. *BF using a hose on the side of the house has nothing to do with the drain/manifold in the back of the house. read more

Look for another company! Spent thousands this summer and thought it was a good company. Fast forward to this fall and my opinion and experience has taken a 180 degree turn. When I questioned the cost of a small repair, they told me they could do nothing for me. They wanted to charge my wife $100 for a broken part... I went to home depot picked up the part and replaced it for $25. That's only a small part of the overall job presented to them. When I questioned the price they stood firm. I reluctantly told them to go ahead and proceed with the repair. When I returned 15 minutes later Sasha decided he would just leave. He didn't indicate he was abandoning the job, rather he waited for me to leave and high tailed it. I called no less than 5 times (his cell phone) and he never answered. I have used the services of Apex twice, but I am going to avoid them in the future. Here's why: The first time that I used Apex was to expand my small irrigation system to include drip irrigation for raised vegetable beds. They gave competent advice, but their execution was sloppy and a little pricey. I ended up digging many of the trenches needed to do the job right and having them come back out to make the corrections. Not what I wanted, but I thought that the job was a little unusual, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The second time was just a simple sprinkler blowout, again for a spendy $75. The nature of my system is that it requires the system to be shutoff using a six-foot long t-handle to close an outdoor, underground valve. The valve was failing, so it took a little longer than normal to shutdown and, as a result, we were charged more than the $75. My wife felt a little taken advantage of and I thought it was a nickel & dime move, but whatever, I could rationalize it. I just was frustrated that a company that advertises itself as "affordable, honest, quality" wasn't really giving much value in service. However, the straw that broke the camel's back was regarding that failing valve. A company that prides itself on service would have found a way to take care of a customer in need, but Apex wouldn't. It was recommended that the valve be replaced, due to concerns of freezing pipes in the winter - something I agreed with. However, Apex quoted me $2,000 to dig it up and replace it, and would knock $500 off the price if I did the digging. It took me a few days to process it before I called them back to see when we could get it scheduled. Apex decided it wasn't worth their time. They left me hanging because they can do a sprinkler blowout for $75 in 15 minutes and couldn't sacrifice the time to take care of a customer in a tough position. I ended up digging the hole myself the next weekend and having a certified master plumber and his apprentice come and replace the valve - My Denver Plumber, if you're interested. It cost me 6 hours of digging and $350. I'm embarrassed that I even entertained the idea of paying Apex to replace the valve and I'm angry that they don't feel any loyalty to their customers. I wouldn't recommend these guys for anything. Their service was twice substandard and they don't have any loyalty towards their customers. _______________________ UPDATE: In response to the message from Apex: I was given the advice to call another company or perhaps a plumber. That was as far as the advice went. When I asked for a recommendation, there wasn't one other than to go to a plumbing supply store and to ask the guy at the counter if he had a recommendation. You knew I was frustrated when we got off the phone and you knew that you were leaving me hanging. I was given a quote from My Denver Plumber about the valve (without them having to see down the hole) of approximately $500. They came in under that budget and even had to replace some piping that I damaged while digging the hole. You knew that the price you quoted was and is outrageous. Yelp users can view my review history - I think they'll agree that I generally leave pretty fair and positive reviews. I'm not trying to solve anything. I'm just trying to make sure other people understand that Apex will solve minor issues, but will leave them hanging when they're really needed. Customer loyalty isn't just emails. I think the one star is pretty fair, but the Yelp community can decide for themselves. I'm sorry you didn't like the review. _______________________ UPDATE #2: In response to the second message from Apex: I am not hiding behind my computer - I contacted you for your help directly. I asked for your help twice - the first time you quoted a ridiculous price (esp. in light of the much cheaper price I paid a more qualified master plumber), and the second time you just told me you were too busy to help me. My review is very fair - you were more committed to sprinkler blowouts than a serious repair. I asked about doing it after blow out season - you wouldn't do it then, either. Your "best to mediate the situation" was to leave me hanging. You knew it when we got off the phone because I told you as much. If you had cared about true customer service, you would have found the time to do it, or at least offered to do it after blow out season was done. You said no to both, even though I was polite and professional in all of our conversations and willing to pay you a ridiculous amount of money. You left me no recourse other than Yelp. It was my last recourse, not my first. That you continue to argue about this is a very poor reflection upon your business and I hope that the Yelp community recognizes that your customer service is severely lacking. You have now actively encouraged me to tell all of my neighbors, in person, to avoid using Apex. read more

I had a negative experience with Apex Irrigation. I scheduled an appointment for one of their technicians to come out to figure out why our sprinkler system wouldn't come on as well as look at our floodlights. I emailed the owner Dave prior to my appointment to ensure they could work on floodlights since it's technically not 'landscape lighting', which he confirmed they could do. The technician was at our property for a total of 5 minutes. He told us he couldn't work on the floodlights and that all we needed to fix the sprinklers was a new extension cord. For the 5 minutes, we got charged $100. I understand that there is an estimate fee, but we would have gone with another company if we had known they couldn't work on our lights. I also felt charging $100 for a very simple fix goes against the core values of affordability and professionalism they tout on the company website. When I called to discuss the matter with Dave, he piled on the excuses. He said that "floodlights" are sometimes what customers call landscape lights. While I'm sure people mix the two up, he didn't clarify that in our email exchange. We also asked if they had any recommendations for landscapers since we were new to the city, but they didn't have any. Overall I was disappointed with my experience. I'm sure Apex is good for bigger projects but I wouldn't use them for small fixes. I would also be sure to get on the phone with Dave about any questions you have prior to your appointment to make sure that expectations are clearly set. Update based on Dave's update: You're trying really hard to take the high road. I absolutely support good, honest small businesses. My dad has owned a diesel repair shop for the past 30 years. I got charged $100 for 5 minutes worth of work. Anybody would be pissed off. What I thought I was getting was someone to fix my sprinkler system and hook up my floodlights. You straight up lied about your ability to work on the floodlights. If you couldn't do that work then we would have found a handyman who could work on both the sprinkler system and the lights. On top of that, we just needed a new extension cord. It would have been nice to receive a discount for the services you provided since the sprinkler system was ridiculously easy and you couldn't actually work on our floodlights. Nick from Apex was just here this morning (10/17) to blow out my sprinkler system. My wife and I are new homeowners (3 months in our first house) and neither of us grew up in a house that had a sprinkler system - so needless to say, we're pretty green when it comes to what we know about sprinkler systems. Nick explained every step of what he was doing and most importantly, why he was doing it. He observed that sprinkler shutoff valve has failed and made some adjustments to our shutoff valves outside to allow for water to expand, all the while showing me exactly where certain parts of our system are and what they do for the system overall and what I need to check on until we can get the shut off valve replaced. As a result of his expertise, I definitely will be calling a plumber (on his recommendation, because he also thinks our water shutoff valve to the entire house could be replaced too - he texted a picture of it to his boss for clarification and validation) to replace those valves. I first contacted Apex after a leak sprung in my irrigations system, they made it extremely easy to schedule an appointment and came that week to do a full system inspection and fix the leak. Derek and Patrick were highly efficient and professional every time they were at my house. They even came out in the middle of a storm to get my problem fixed. After they corrected the leak they installed a custom mist zone for my raised garden and recommended solutions for other areas of my lawn and garden that were not being properly watered. In addition, they informed me of new state of the art technology for a wireless sprinkler panel that syncs with an app on my phone, and lighting systems that do the same. I immediately set up an appointment to have them install the panel and a week later they were back out to install and program the new system. The system is incredible and hassle free, now I can control and monitor my irrigation system when I go on vacation. Derek and Patrick are hardworking, knowledgeable and super-friendly to work with. I have already recommended them to all of the home owners I know. If you want a lawn that will make your neighbors jealous, than a high quality irrigation system installed by professionals is a must, but if you want the peace of mind that comes with using the best in the business, you have to use Apex Irrigation! read more

After a long hot summer of watering our browning grass by hand on almost a daily basis we called Dave to install an irrigation system in our back and front yard. He was friendly and extremely helpful, explaining everything to us before he got started and calling 30 min before he came to the house as promised. Since he installed our irrigation system our grass is greener than ever and our vegetable garden is thriving! In addition, he even came to the house about 3 weeks after the system was installed to make sure everything was working correctly and to our satisfaction. Not only did he install an fantastic sprinkler system, but has also been extremely helpful in problem-solving some recent drainage issues that arose during the recent abundance of rain. He always responds very quickly to requests and contact and is extremely thorough. He came to our house to check out our drainage issues without cost after we contacted him with concerns, and has been very quick to help us repair the system. So finding someone to work on my sprinklers is kind of important to me, especially if I'd like to keep my weeds nice and green. Most expensive in town bordering on a straight rip off. I had used these people for several years and thought they were pretty expensive but oh well. Then last fall I had a contractor replace my water line from the meter to the house and they damaged the sprinkler system in the process. Apex quote to fix the system was "aprox $7000 dollars" Of course the waterline replacement contractor went crazy and had a sprinkler company of his own choosing stop by to take a look. His company did the repair last fall for $650.00. I'm happy to report that the sprinkler system works as it always did when turned on this summer. This could only be two things, you decide. 1. They saw a major expensive renovation going on and thought what's another 7 grand for this guy. OR 2. They have no clue what they are doing, but I know they do know what their doing from past experience. Needless to say I won't be having Apex on the property anymore. Update 6/11/19 So Dave leaves me a voice mail claiming his estimate was to fix everything wrong with my system not just the immediate repair and claims I went for the band-Aid option. That's laughable because there is nothing wrong with my sprinkler system and I have one of the greenest yards in the neighborhood..... Plus they had been servicing my system for several years and made no mention of $7000 worth of needed repairs. My sprinkler contractor laughed at his estimate and told me he could replace the entire system for less then 7 grand. Dave also made comment that I hide behind a computer which again is laughable because Dave knows or should know that's just not accurate given what he's seen around here. They have a multitude of one star reviews both here and Google, mine is not the only one. He called ahead, was on time, and could have fixed the problem in his sleep. He's that good. Then he went above and beyond, and timed the water to come out at 5 minutes intervals, an hour apart, four differnt hours. Who'd of thunk that? I'd never been told that 20 minutes per watering session was wasting water, and 5 minutes, four times, an hour apart, is more effective. This guy knows his stuff. A real keeper, this company. I'll be back! P.S. He didn't rake me over the coals on parts; $3.00 each , he told me, so my total for parts was $6. How honest is that? read more

Scheduled an estimate to troubleshoot my sprinkler system. Problem was that some of my zones didn't have enough pressure. Scheduled a week in advance, took off 4 hours from work to be home, and then they cancelled 2 hours into that time window, because of a light drizzle, that literally stopped 10 mins after he called. Not to mention the guy was snarky on the phone "welllll... I can't control the weather" he says. He could have showed up and waited 10 minutes for it to pass, or just worked in the rain. If they can't do basic troubleshooting in the rain, they should check the weather and reschedule in advance, so they're not wasting their customer's time. read more

What struck me first about Apex was their professionalism and friendly demeanor. Not often anymore do you find service professionals who have a great attitude, are competent, can explain how your system works without being in a rush and are not bothered by questions. I used Apex to turn on and winterize my system, replace broken sprinkler heads, put in a drip irrigation system and install landscape lighting. I had a broken sprinkler head that caused one zone to fail completely. I also wanted to have the rest of the system checked out and tuned up if necessary. I found Apex from the reviews here on yelp and decided to visit their website for the work. First off their website is great in that it details pricing and has a very efficient online scheduling system. I went to the scheduling page, found a time slot only two days out and entered my information and work description. Minutes later I received a confirmation e-mail and the appointment was set. The next day I received an appointment reminder e-mail. Their web interface works very well. Dave Hopper arrived on time and started work on my system immediately. He was very professional and efficient checking out the entire sprinkler system. He replaced a couple of heads and dug out the one that was leaking and causing the zone failure. All of this was completed in less than an hour. The total cost for labor and parts was quite reasonable.
