A little difficult to find as the address goes to the market and restaurant is on the other side of the building. Veg platter was good, but was mostly just the vegan pakora and it was very spicy. I'm never going to eat there anymore and will see if health inspectors can surprise them, because that mango lassi has mold in it. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants to visit when I'm in town on military duty. Granted it's a no frills type of family restaurant, but the taste and quality of good kept me coming back. Unfortunately, this visit I can't say that I'll be back. The vegetable samosa was so oily it was seeping out onto the plate. The rasam soup did not taste of tamarind and was especially salty! And the dal makhani was soupy and unflavored. A disappointment to say the least. I'm not sure what has changed in the kitchen, but I hope they get back to the quality of food they used to serve. read more

By far the best Indian buffet I've visited. Wide selection of dishes from spicy to mild. If you don't like spicy try the butter chicken. Very flavorful and very tender without the hot spices. Buffet is open Tuesday through Sunday. If you aren't the buffet type you can order from the menu after 530 pm. In addition to the great fare on the buffet they also provide you with warm naan right out of the oven. Water , soft drinks , beer and wine available. We tried the: Dal Tadke Wali Medhu Vada Chicken Vindaloo Garlic Naan They were all great ! Especially the chicken vindaloo -- I loved the flavor especially with the naan. And I had never had anything like the medhu vada before - a savory, spongey, sort of donut that went with a simple veggie curry for dipping. The daal was more familiar with turmeric and warm spices. I think we got medium spice and it was pretty much perfect for us. The only thing that threw me off was they have had to raise their prices but the changes are not reflected on the menu so you may need to ask for an itemized list to see what everything costs. Not a problem just something to be aware of. You also check out at the front desk instead of at your table. Also, we got styrofoam boxes for to-go instead of the usual plastic tubs which wouldn't be a problem if I had been more careful in the car or maybe asked for a bag. Good food and a lot of it. Don't be turned off by the outside appearance. Inside was very nice and clean and colorful. There were hand written sign indicating a lunch buffet would be available on the weekend. Even though we were a bit early, the host was gracious and seated us, bringing us menus and ice water. We ordered two entrees and an appetizer off the extensive menu. Oh my gosh. Big mistake. We ended up with enough food to feed a small army. Everything is made fresh so it is piping hot. I really enjoyed the fried cauliflower appetizer. It was so good. If I could eat vegan food this tasteful all the time I could **maybe** give up meat. By the time we left , it was starting to get busy. The naan, the vegetables, the rice, the meats were perfect. It is the kind of place where you order a Coke and they bring you a can of it. Yes, try this place. It's not miraculous, but it's amazingly fresh with good ingredients. It has no excuse to have bad ingredients as it's attached to an Indian grocery store that's worth a visit by itself. It took a while and made us believe it was made freshly, not from pre-cooked vats. I had malai kofta, and my partner had a chicken masala. It was spiced very well, exactly to our order, and the crowning glory was a genuine homemade garlic naan, which was delightful. They have a menu more extensive than I would've believed. There are lots of dishes, vegetarian included, and we'll be back to try more. No outdoor seating, but there was no one there on a Saturday night! Lots of carryout orders, though. And yes, it's difficult to find. Find the market, and continue around the side. It's fairly large once you get there, and the prices were market. Summary: wide selection, good and fresh ingredients, reasonably priced, and the motivation to return again, next time we're in Columbus. This is one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in the US. The food is very good. You can tell from the depth of flavor they know what they're doing. A lot of Indian restaurants just use lots of heavy cream and salt to cut corners but this place is different. Other than great food, the interior is also nice and the staff is super friendly. I was headed to Columbus yesterday around lunchtime, so I check out Yelp for ideas. Indian sounded delicious and Apna Kitchen came highly recommended. The location was somewhat difficult to find, as it's in a business park and next to an Indian Grocer that we walked through to find it with no luck before walking outside and the corner. Don't look for a restaurant 'storefront' or you won't find it. Upon our arrival, we found it packed with no seats available. The fact that the majority of patrons were Indian was a good sign as to the authenticity of the food. We weren't certain how the seating worked, but the owner came around and let us know he would take care of us after some tables were cleaned off. We all chose the lunch buffet, but I'm not sure if you can order off the menu, as we weren't provided any. Everything looked amazing, and my lack of knowledge was evident, but I was eager to try it all. The goat and fish curry were phenomenal with just the right amout of spice and Chicken Tikka and Bhindi Malsala (fresh okra cooked with chopped onion and spices) were my favorites. I believe I also had paneer, mistaking it for tofu, and really enjoyed the texture. The dosai had me stumped (thin rice and lentil crepe served with sambhar and chutney), and was another first for me that I really enjoyed. The Khoya Kheer (Rice cooked in slow sweetened milk with pistachios and raisins) was the perfect ending to soothe the palatte after the spice. After a single trip to fill my plate, I left absolutely stuffed and pleased to have found this restaurant. The sign on the door indicated they have applied for a liquor license, but we were all fine with water, not wanting to distract from the flavors. I'd give 5 stars, as the owner and staff was very attentive and the food I had was exceptional, but as I grabbed a Chicken Pakora (tender pieces of chicken deep fried with chickpea batter and spices) from the buffet pan, I noticed a hair attached to it and discarded it from my plate (I took it as my signal to avoid fried foods). There was also no indication of what the buffet cost, and at checkout, I was surprised by the $16 pp price, but it was well worth it. The only other downside of our experience was the noise level, as it was not somewhere you could enjoy a peaceful lunch for all the children running around playing and people congregating and standing to visit. A Tuesday evening visit came out to be a pleasant surprise. I took my sis-in-law for dinner. The place was pretty much buzzing on a weekday evening. Service was prompt. Ambiance unexpectedly not traditional. Normally, Indian restaurants have traditional decor. I missed music, but the food compensated for it. I ordered dal makhni, dhaniya chicken, garlic naan. How can I miss methi malai matar ! Loved that the food was deliciously hot and stayed hot through out the dinner. That could be because of the steel utensils. Loved those cute serving ware. I ordered take-out...I called them and told them exactly what it should have been (after my husband picked it up and wondered about the price) and they had this many dumb reasons why they added an extra $50% for themselves. It should have been $39.20. I will never get food from them again. I mean i seriously ordered 2 orders of poori bread which according to their menu are $2.95 per order and they charged me $15 just for bread. I'll just go back to driving to indianapolis for indian food. Update: I'm pretty sure the korma they gave me was not korma, it had no nuts. Tasted no different than curry. Apna Kitchen is one of those restaurants that you would be thrilled to have in any city. This is, in my opinion, the best restaurant in Columbus. If you're wondering how a smaller town like Columbus could have a fantastic Indian restaurant like Apna Kitchen, wonder no more. This town has big industry, and a large (for Indiana) Indian community. So if you live in Columbus, or are just driving down the interstate wondering where to eat, give this place a try. You won't be sorry. They run lunch buffets every day, and are experimenting with a Sunday Chaat dinner buffet as well. Regardless of whether you go for a buffet-style meal or order off the menu, you will be assured a great dining experience. The manager cares very deeply about good food and good service, and it shows. The service here is excellent. A lot of the food on the spicy side, but not painfully so. If you don't like spicy foods, ask which options on the buffet or menu are not spicy, they will be glad to help. Many dishes have a bit of heat to them, and it is all delicious. My recommendation is to go during one of the lunch buffets and try a bit of everything. The food offerings change each day, so every lunch buffet is a bit different. What to order? My husband and I waited until we ate here at least a dozen times before writing this review. We wanted to make sure that we had a chance to try out their evening menu items. Their buffet (both lunch and Sunday Chaat dinner buffet) is truly excellent, but do yourself a favor and try them for evening meals. Everything we have had has been delicious. Here are the must trys: GARLIC NAAN: Served with buffet meals automatically, but you have to order it for dinner. DO IT. Trust me, it's addictive and worth it. BRIYANI: Any of their briyanis are excellent, and the ones with meat have generous portions of meat...although watch for bones. The vegetarian briyani is also excellent. APNA CHICKEN: Similar to the also excellent Chicken 65, this is a wonderfully spicy appetizer with just enough heat to taste great without overpowering the palate. The food is good. Not great. Try out baby corn pepper fry which is pretty good. This is the only Indian restaurant in a 30 mile radius. Hence, I am a regular here. But, the new management is rude. They advertise closing time as 9:30 PM and they stopped me from entering at 8:55PM telling they can't close at 9.30PM if I come in at 8:55 PM. When I talked with the management they responded telling the owner knows there is no competition so the owner don't mind customer's or the managements complaints.
