We found Apostle Islands Area Campground to be exactly what we were looking for--and maybe even a little better than expected. It's conveniently located just outside Bayfield, making it a great home base for exploring Bayfield and the Apostle Islands. When we arrived, Jennifer, one of the owners, gave us a warm welcome and got us checked in quickly. The campsites are terraced along a hillside, so most have nice views. They aren't perfectly level, but a couple of leveling blocks took care of that without any trouble. The bathhouse has five large private bathrooms, all spotless, along with a convenient laundry room. The campground also has a swimming pond, mini-golf, and some of the most creative themed cabins we've seen in our travels. It's obvious Jennifer and Zach have put a lot of hard work into making this a special place. We really enjoyed our stay, and if we're back in the Bayfield area, we'd definitely stay here again. One nice bonus is that Adventure Club Brewing is just a short walk from the campground. Tucked into the back of an outdoor recreation store, it's a small brewery with a fun, welcoming atmosphere and a large outdoor patio that's perfect for relaxing with friends. read more

This RV park is 10 minutes from downtown Bayfield making it very convenient. Staff is friendly. They have done a wonderful job with the bathrooms and grounds, specifically the new side of the park. Some RV spots on that side of camp have peekaboo views of Lake Superior. The office has an ice cream shop, swag and a few supplies. We stayed on the older side of the park and it could use some TLC. The RV pads are in bad shape. Took two tries to auto level the camper because I could not get the front of the camper low enough. The pad was narrow and peaked, I had to dig into the side of the pad to get our landing gear on a flat surface. We were at the lowest site on that side of the park, so there was significant wash out before this week's heavy rain. The washout made the site uneven and there was no place to set a chair or the provided picnic table on a flat location to sit, lounge or eat. We really appreciated the park reaching out about heavy rains and their effect on the park that week. Tree trimming is a must. I know privacy can be important, but a balance between over growth and tidiness needs to be found. We couldn't use our awning properly to cook in the rain. There are trees with many dead heads that needed to be addressed. No one wants a damaged roof or camper when branches fall. All in all this was a nice place to stay and if we're in the area we would stay here again. read more

The campground was big- a few different areas- we were only able to snag a spot that seemed weird above the office and right on the road for the week leading up to, and including July 4 weekend. Turns out it was an awesome spot - up on a hill, a tree or two, but the lack of trees kept us mercifully out of mega-insect territory. The front office was delightful and accommodating. My only "complaint" was that they only had one washer and dryer. Honestly it wasn't a deal breaker at all. Bayfield is a gorgeous little village and the campground made it affordable and super easy to explore. Highly recommend!! read more

As an experienced group of campers who consistently book at least six sites, we are very familiar with campground reservation policies. We were therefore extremely disappointed with the treatment we received after carefully following stated rules. ​We followed the "booking year-to-date" policy advertised on your website, securing six sites for our group on October 2nd, 2024. To our astonishment, on the morning of October 7th, 2024, all six of us received calls informing us that our reservations needed to be moved. The reason given was a priority system for current guests to rebook the same site for the following year--a policy that is not stated anywhere on your online reservation page. If this is standard practice, the ability to book online a year out should simply not be available. ​The result of this move is that our group is now scattered across the campground and placed on sites that barely fit our rigs. This contradicts what a member of our group was told earlier this summer when they expressed concern about rig fit for this date; they were explicitly assured that the campground never moves reservations and does not grant rebooking rights to current guests for the following year. We have both email and voicemail evidence confirming that your staff moved our group for the reasons stated above. ​Our frustration only compounded upon arrival today, October 2nd, 2025. Quiet time is posted as 10:00 PM, yet at 10:07 PM, the owner stopped by our site to tell us he had already received a text complaint. While we respect quiet hours, being addressed within seven minutes of the cutoff is excessive. Furthermore, to be told this is a "quiet campground" during Apple Fest weekend--a peak event--shows a disconnect. This is a private campground, not a state park, and expectations should be adjusted for a high-volume weekend. ​Finally, we also noted the policy stating that check-ins after 6:00 PM may incur a $50.00 late arrival fee, an unusually strict charge. ​Overall, the combination of misleading reservation practices, staff contradictions, and the overly rigid enforcement of minor rules has made for a terrible experience. We certainly cannot recommend this campground to other large groups. read more

Not a group friendly campground. "Quite hours" are strictly enforced and would be more correctly labeled in my opinion as silent hours. I personally would not recommend this campground to anyone under the age of 75, or a group larger than 3 unless you are fine with being told to go in your tent and go to sleep by the owner promptly at 10pm. Sites are right next to each other we could barley fit our two tents. Bathroom was out of toilet paper and hand soap for two days. read more

Park is clean, bathrooms were average but it was a holiday weekend. I called the office 7 times, left messages, never got a response: which is just bizarre. Camped on other side, so never made contact with a human (envelope posted to a board for my arrival). I think there's something to that: no people contact, no uniformed staff: felt soul-less. read more

I would first like to start saying that if someone could give negative stars, I would. I recently stayed at this campground with my boyfriends family for two nights, both days there we were gone pretty much until 5 pm ish, to which we came back to the site and cooked and just sat around by the fire. In the policy, it clearly states quiet hours are from 10 p.m to 7 a.m. Understandable, you would think. Around 10:20, we were all hanging out by the fire, talking at an "inside" voice level. To our surprise, the owner comes up the hill to our campsite with a completely negative attitude telling us we need to quiet down, and that this was a Christian/family campsite and that we can't swear. Excuse me, but where is that stated in the policy. To me, it seemed like we were already being quiet, but whatever; first warning. A few people from our group go into their tents to try and settle down for the night which makes us even quieter. He proceeds to come up two more times, complaining about noise, when we were as quiet as a mouse. Then continues to swear(right after he told us we were not allowed to) and said he would sit there and wait until we were all in our tents and sleeping. I'm sorry, but where is the lack of privacy and respect for your guests. Never in my years and years of camping been treated with utmost disrespect and cruelty. If you are looking to have even the slightest bit of fun and enjoy time with your family, I would not recommend. P.S, if you do choose this campsite, do not forget your vital hygiene products, to get some at the camp store, you will have to sacrifice your arm and leg. read more

In planning our last minute trip to Bayfield I came across Apostle Island Camp Ground. The reviews seemed great so I booked the last full hook-up site they had. When we arrived I was shocked to see how articulate the kids behind the counter were. They were well trained in customer service ...here are some recommended things to do, here's where I would recommend to eat, here's what going on in town, here are good outfitters, etc. whenever we inquired they had suggestions and options! The bathrooms were incredibly clean. There was one washer/dryer, which was a bit pricey ...$2.50 for wash and $2.50 for dry. It rained, really down poured for at least 10-12 hours one day so we weren't able to have dry towels for the next day and needed to dry our towels. The showers were $.25 per 5 minutes. This is appropriate since they have a large ground with only 3 showers. The water was hot and the pressure was excellent. The only real negative was how close you are to your neighbors. There are trees, but they don't block out the space to make you feel like your really in nature. They did their best to move the fire pits in locations where you have privacy, but there's only so much you have when your neighbor is 10 feet away from you. They had a playground which my kids loved. They have a Gaga ball pit, so bring a ball. We didn't have one, but I'm sure if we did it would've entertained my kids for hours. read more

Nice campground with good amenities. Very clean restroom/showers and friendly customer service when you arrive. Dog friendly as long as you have a leash. Biggest con is the strict noise rules. If you are over the age of 60 this is probably a good spot for you because quite hours start promptly at 10pm with no exceptions. Be careful when talking around your fire pit because you will likely be asked to quiet down if you have a bigger group of people. Most at this campground are in their camper by dark. Quiet hours at this campground are very much silent hours. Overall nice place just not group friendly. read more

We stayed for a few days in one of the cabins, while exploring the Bayfield area. Cabin was very clean, and had electrical outlets. Very friendly staff, clean bathrooms and showers. The campground is silent at 10pm (the beginning of quiet hours). We enjoyed our stay here. read more

The campground is lovely and bathrooms immaculate, but the owners make this the BEST place to visit. They bent over backwards to help us get settled in-had some issues to resolve with the camper and the owners couldn't have been more helpful and were truly kind about helping. We stayed here this past weekend for 4 days while we explored Bayfield and the Apostle Islands. A good small campground with a nice family feel to it. Zach and Jennifer, the owners, are very friendly and helpful. We needed a sanitation tube extension and offers to rent one but they just gave us one to use with a request to just return it clean when done. The sites are clean and well maintained, restrooms are clean and maintained too. Showers are $1.50 but you get 5 minutes of hot water and that seems like enough time. The camp-store isn't very well stocked but it also seems like they're in the process of building their business and talked about adding items as they think of them. Located just outside Bayfield about 2 miles from town. We'd stay here again and recommend it as well. read more

We'd been going to Bayfield for Applefest for years, and stayed at AIA Camprground with a large group that has petered out over the years. This campground was purchased in mid summer 2018 by the current owners and the changes are amazing! We're now pulling a 34ft 5th wheel and had no trouble getting through the campground or into the spot. There are hills in the campground, but the trees are very well trimmed, so no close calls or scratches. Now upgraded to 50 amp service and wifi on most sites. Most sites are full hookups. Went back last weekend for the second year with the new owners, and even more changes! The grounds look incredible, the office and ice cream parlor, the accents everywhere show these owners care and want to make things great! From what Zach shared, even more changes coming!! VERY outgoing, accommodating and friendly owners who want to make the experience great! Sight lines painted on the ground to help line up the rig backing in. Close to Bayfield,(1 mile) easy access to 13 and Washburn and Ashland. read more

We just tent camped here for the second time. They have a lot of rules which is a little off putting but when you get there it is a friendly and relaxed place. They have a lot of RV's that stay there but it was quiet most of the time. They have good showers that cost $1.50 if you can shower in 5 minutes which I can. The camp sites have a lot of shade which is good. They can be a little buggy but unless you camp in a desert... What makes it really nice is if your time there includes a Big Top Chautauqua show the shuttle picks you up right at the campsite. Also if you don't mind a bit of a hike you can walk from the campsite over to the Brownstone Trail and follow that into town. You can access the trail from Blue Wing Bay Road or Lakeshore Drive. First of all re reserved our spot - told the person on the phone we had a large RV and a large trailer. They said no problem. We get into the park, and we had to park our trailer in another part of the park. Which really was no big problem - but we had to use our RV to park it in a small area, and it was very difficult. The Campground manager could have helped us dolly it off, and used his 4 wheeler to park it for us. That is how in other camp grounds it has always worked.But no. All he could complain about is the beep, beep, beep noise of backing up the RV. This owner/manager has been with the park for 22 years, he is totally burnt out and wants to sell, so I think he does only what he has to do. Talked to other people in the campground that have come there for years, and they said the same thing. He is burnt!. We kept blowing the breaker box, and he tells us, "Well I just had a big rig in here last week, and they did not have problems" Well we are - and after a few hours he finally replaced the switch and then it finally worked, which was frustrating as it was hot and humid, and the RV was miserable. We finally put our generator on, and that I assume is when someone complained about the noise, so the owner came and fixed it. This place also has a lot of rules, which I think some were ridiculous like NO NOISE after 10. Really?? We are not 10 years old. I think we can hold it down, and since it looked like there were no teenagers we are not going to have a big party. And fix our power if you don't want to hear our generator! All in all, next time we go back to this area, we will be looking for a nicer place. read more

We arrived late (8pm) and was greeted with"what do you want", even though the sign on the highway said vacancy. We booked a site for two nights without looking at it first because the owner/manager was short/rude with us. We got the site and it was a large campsite but it was all dirt. The facilities were not good, you have to hold the water on to get water, the toilets are exposed to the outdoors and you have to pay for the showers. We walked the sites and most were 90% dirt which was not good for us because we have young kids and didn't want to pay for showers because they would get very dirty because of the dirt sites. They also sold us wet wood and the sites had plenty of mosquitoes/spiders. The playground was very outdated and the manager/owner was not kid friendly. They did refund our money for the second night, thanks to the nice wife. I would not recommend this site to anyone if they have kids. read more
