This is a fantastic auto shop ~ I've owned five Mercedes in my lifetime and kept every one for over a decade. I've used multiple service centers across the SE and Appalachian Automotive is my favorite! Ryan and his team are skilled, fair and reliable. First thing to note here: pricing appears to be slightly on the high side, and there is an upfront fee for a diagnostic (that does not count towards any services you may purchase from them). Note that this in no way makes the place 'bad' (you often get what you pay for), so while I can't mark them as the best of the best (very, VERY few places are), they're still good and I'd recommend them. Took my wife's 2011 Subaru here for a diagnosis on suspected transmission problems (which they confirmed). They were honest, courteous, and overall a good shop...just on the spendy side for the work to be done. (In our case, we decided not to have the repairs actually done, because no point in spending $8k+ to repair a $4-5k car). I'd still consider them worth checking out if you're having issues, because even if they don't turn out to be the right place to get the work done, they're honest, and that's worth a lot. read more

4.5 out of 5 (no place is perfect). I stopped in about 4:15 pm on a Friday afternoon, in order to make an appointment for a job that would probably take them 15-30 minutes the following week. Ryan and his team would not hear of it; and they literally did it right then and there. It was something simple, but I needed an ASE-certified shop to do it, so as to not void the warranty. Appalachia's Automotive and owner/mechanic Ryan are the best. He is really honest and seems to take great pleasure in making sure his customers really understand whatever issues their vehicle may be having. He showed me what the issue was with our vehicle and could have made a lot of money fixing it, but recommended against it. It is difficult to know what to do if you don't know a lot about automotive so that really built my trust. It is how I treat my patients - lots of explanations and pictures, and recommend what should be done as well as what could be done, even if that means nothing. Prices are reasonable as well. Had my 2014 Range Rover sport brakes replaced. Ryan and his staff at Appalachian automotive 2344 Russ Avenue were amazing. Workmanship better than the dealership. Took it back for spark plugs and a tune up the following week because of their excellent prices and workmanship. At 110k miles, best our car has ever run. Decided to go back to have Ryan replace belts and air filters. Again, amazing work. As if my RR was brand new. Ryan also recommended no ethanol gas. It's now a rocket ship. read more

Excellent service. We were in the area and had already purchased a starter elsewhere to install ourselves. In meantime, we had another problem we could not identify. Appalachian Automotive had impressive equipment to monitor electrical issues over time, so they fixed that problem and installed the starter we had already purchased. After needing a jump less than a week ago; and, now another jump just 4 days later, I was perplexed since Auto Zone tested both battery and alternator the very same day of my first jump and said that my 1 year old battery and alternator were both OK. As Lady Luck would prevail, this part-time Maggie Valley gal up from Florida was referred to Appalachian Auto where I was treated like a queen! Within a very reasonable time, Ryan diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced and continued to show and explain the possible electrical interferences that might prevent a new battery from holding a charge. Already, Ryan was acquiring and building my trust in him. I chose to purchase a new battery and return as soon as possible to have Ryan, an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certified mechanic perform the installation. Well, Ryan didn't just 'take out the old and put in the new'. He went the extra mile! They say 'pictures are worth a million words'. Wish I would have taken 'before the new battery' pics and 'after the new battery' pics to display the difference! Not only were old cracked cables replaced; but, terminals were cleaned and corrosion protection was applied to the new connectors! BOTTOM LINE: As owner of Appalachian Auto, Ryan's interest was in SERVICING my 2002 Nissan xTerra NOT SELLING PRODUCTS! I say this because at the end of the day, Ryan refused any compensation. Overpriced and dishonest. He also talks badly about his customers to other people. I have heard so many stories from others as well. I wish I would have listened. Make sure you get an itemized list of the costs before you get the work done or you will end up with a bill for $260 for an oil change, tire rotation and air filter change. read more

These guys give excellent service. My cousin came into town over the weekend and we called Taylor Ford. They recommended AA because her car was a different make and they were getting ready to close. So we called them and they invited my cousin to come in - on a Saturday. She learned that her radiator needed repair. AA explained everything clearly and showed her what was what. Then, when the radiator repair came in under estimate, they actually reduced the price of the original estimate because the part was cheaper than they had originally thought. My cousin kept going on and on about how well she was treated and how nice everyone was. Who does that!? Incredibly honest, awesome people. I had my car at this shop recently and it was a total nightmare from start to finish(which took over 2 month and now my car is not right at all)-so from the facts that I know and what I was put through here--they cant do any kind of auto repair work at all-and they will not honor a warranty after they charge you for it--and they do inflate the bill also---this review is all facts----so please don't make the mistake I did--STAY AWAY from this place--they don't earn the one star but you have to give it to them to warn others--thank you very much read more
