I love this place. They are always busy yet they are fast, friendly and have really good food. Great place to hang out.

Got the Club sandwich with potato salad. The sandwich was tasty, had a good sauce on it, bacon was thin but had decent flavor, but I've had better. The pickle was delicious as all pickles are. The potato salad looked like one put some effort into it, but it tended toward the bland side. Would have spiced it up a bit at least with a bit of salt. Maybe they are catering toward the heart healthy crowd. My review is somewhat limited as I have only been here once, and had only one entree. I may have to visit here again to try something else. Moral of the story: I'd come here again to give it another try. I wasn't disappointed in my meal; however, it didn't boast above average qualities. It is easy to be a critic and hard to be the chef; so, it gets four stars from me. read more

Multiple people behind the counter and in the kitchen were not wearing masks. Someone in our small (3 person) group mentioned to one worker who had a clear mask that didn't cover her face that her mask was unsafe and the lady proceeded to come back up to us (without any mask at all) to say that she "has a serious health condition and can't wear a mask" and that if we don't like it we should stay home. I couldn't wait to share about the most amazing, best ever, cinnamon roll that this place produces! The dough is like a biscuit and the icing is perfect. Not too sweet and with plenty of cream cheese flavor. My mom makes a scratch made sourdough roll on Christmas morning and I thought it was the best, but this is serious competition! read more

Drove to Burnsville waaay early in the morning to get a driver's license renewed. What a treat afterward to have breakfast at Appalachian Java, just around the corner. Cappuccino is perfect (still sipping it!) and we had a breakfast plate and sausage/feta quiche. If you are in Burnsville, don't miss this place! I will definitely be returning. read more

Hidden gem in this little town. After perusing the TARP shop and exhibit of Cecil Sharp's photography, strolled a few feet to an amazing lunch. BLT and Greek Grilled Cheese sandwiches were fantastic. Sides of tomato/cucumber salad and pasta salad were both delicious and just enough. The array of sweets is intimidating, just so much to choose from and all we chose were superb. Took them home, except for the oatmeal cookie pie, and the salted caramel cheesecake accompanied dinner. Both Perfect and enough for two. And can I just say, "BOB'S DONUTS "!!!! Cream cheese and Boston Cream both dreamy. Several coffees to choose from, pleasant service and charming decor. Would certainly go back! More donuts to try. read more

Visited on 10/16/2020, after reading about how great it was in Our State Magazine. Staff was rude. Tables were dirty and there was no soap or hot water in the bathroom, which I told them about and was met with hostility and glares. An employee came out before me and couldn't have washed their hands. Food was ok, but nothing special. Lack of Cleanliness and horrible customer service ruin anything good about this place. read more

Burnsville is a old mountain country town, mostly boring for my taste. However, if you must be there, this cafe is absolutely wonderful. They have several gluten free options such as cupcakes and cookies, breads and wraps. Hard to find in small towns. Gluten free breakfast wraps are perfect. Great coffee, owners and employees personable and friendly. Food tastes great, fresh, and perfectly done. read more

Every time I'm in Burnsville I have to stop here! The coffee is great and always exactly how i want it. I really enjoyed the food and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the donuts they have. Everyone always makes me bring back a bunch. Easily the best I've had! Service is warm and cordial. This is a cute place with a local flair. Non-franchise and locally owned/operated, this little cafe was a great place to go for breakfast. We were the only ones there when we first got there; however, there were several others coming and going while we ate breakfast. The inside isn't very big with a few 2 top tables and a 4 top. A few outdoor tables as well when the sun is out. I ordered the sausage burrito, my mom and husband had the waffle and my dad had the eggs. All were very good. If you order a coffee, there was a table with 4 different coffees, cream and sugars. The cups for coffee were fairly large. I ordered a cappuccino and it was VERY strong. I had to put plenty of sugar and cream in it and it kept me up all day. The service was great. Very patient, told us about a few of the items, and make sure we were satisfied. The cafe posted strong support for the local humane society. Definitely somewhere to get a great cup of Java from a local business. Will go again! read more

- The staff needs to be educated on what they serve. - Also , the staff does not listen and pay attention to customers. So many orders come out wrong to the customers. - For example : (1.) Many times I have been served the wrong tea. "Traditional Green Tea" is NOT "Tropical Green Tea" and vise versa. (2.) A small coffee shop right in the heart of Burnsville. As it should be. Because the coffee is outstanding, and so are their teas. Anyone can turn on a coffee pot and make their own. But Appalachian Java has perfected their blends in such a way that it would be very hard for the average person to match it. And the only other places to get coffee is Hilltop, or one of the fast food spots. For just a dollar or two more you can have a amazing cup of coffee that makes the others taste like hot water. The food at Appalachian Java is what one would expect from a coffee shop, but that's not a bad thing. I like a good scone or a bagel to munch on while drinking my coffee, and the ones here are great ( and a large variety to choose from). So if you're looking for a place to sit down and have a full meal with all the works you might wanna go some where else. But if you're like me, and enjoy taking a small break from your day, try Appalachian Java. It's by far the best spot in Burnsville to take a seat, drink some amazing coffee, and relax. read more
