As other libraries, this branch also offer self-checkouts and easy drop offs. They they also offer automatic extension for borrowed items and you can also put books on hold if you are waiting on a specific one. I also had a privilege of using one of the conference rooms with other mom friends to help our kids with their homework. Parking is ample and is located in downtown Brentwood, so you can also shop, eat, play and walk around after. If you also want to support the library, one way is to check out their second hand books on the second floor or donate books as well.

Not only is it location in a very busy area that would make it tough to visit if you aren't able to walk or use public transportation (parking on the street is metered & in high demand and the parking lot is beyond small), but the location itself is quite small. It feels almost like a satellite branch than an actual library. I guess it would be good for just working, but that's about it. It didn't look like it had much of a selection. Finally, I want to believe it was a one off, but the librarian who helped me was the first in over a dozen library visits who wasn't beyond friendly and helpful. She just seemed to not want to be there that day. It just capped off a disappointing trip.

During the summers, my friends and I would stand out front and sit on the war time artillery on display and smoke cigarettes and talk crap. You know, the good ol' days. My latest visit was for a Relay For Life Trivia Night. My husbands office sponsored a table of 10. Apparently they won 2 years ago and have been trying to reclaim their title. Apparently my husband told them I was pretty good at trivia. The hall itself is large and can fit quite a few tables a many a number of people. It includes a small stage area that was utilized for this event by the people giving the questions. In one corner there is a small kitchen area that the finger foods were prepared in and also they had a bar with bartender. You know we love that. By the end of the night we were the loudest table and had many complaints. I wasn't drinking though. I was taking my trivia questions very seriously. There were some maintenance issues that were very noticeable though. No soap in the bathrooms and the bathrooms smell awful. Kind of like there was a drain issue. The event hosts didn't empty the garbage cans enough too. Smelly! I have to say that it was an incredibly fun event. This was our first time and definitely not our last. I honestly cant wait until next years event.

Brentwood Police Department is the gold standard for a police department. Every interaction I have…read morehad with them has been very positive. Even when getting a ticket. They are all very responsive, respectful and kind. Their community engagement is 2nd to none. One morning when I was driving my kids to school, my children wanted to wave to an officer at are stop light . The officer not only waved back, but he had a conversation with my kids about our cat and the officers cat. It was pretty funny hearing my 4-year old twins speaking to this officer at a red light about are cat and theirs. It made my kids day. Another interaction was with Cpl. Lou, who pulled me over for a minor infraction. He spoke to me kindly with respect. He asked for my documents, and while he was waiting for them he held a brief conversation with me about a topic I brought up. He ran my information and gave me a warning. Lastly, I was pulled over by Off. McBride for an expired registration. I didn't realize my req was expired (100% my fault) and he brought it to my attention. He was very kind, respectful, and informative. He wrote me a fix-it-ticket and explained in detail how to take care of it and resolve it. Again, it was 100% my fault I let my reg lapse, so I can't be mad about a ticket. Like I said, BPD is the gold standard of small town police departments. They are hiring excellent officers who are doing an excellent job of keeping Brentwood safe. I feel safe when walking around at night with my kids and that's a great feeling.

Unless you are volunteering in the library, visiting family members incarcerated, or have legal business, you won't get in! Located right near a lot of other county offices (not "off the beaten path!), it is easy to find, and in all the time I volunteered in their library I never had a problem parking. Of course it was "neat and tidy," like a "business office!" It is clean, well run. The youth are fortunate to have a library with a librarian, as most Juvenile facilities do not. (That is why I give it a 5) When there are volunteers (hint, hint!) the can have access to the Internet for research for when they get out, on colleges, etc. If you have children sent here, be reassured. The employees I was in contact with were kind and understanding. The kids even attend school.

ACALANES HIGH SCHOOL GRAD…read more I can't believe it's been almost 20 years since I started high school. It was 1995 and I was 13 years old. I was a new student since I'd transferred into this district to avoid Ygnacio Valley HS. Acalanes was a great high school with a very high average GPA and very high percentage of students who go on to complete college. I guess any area where most families are pretty well off, this would probably also be true. My friends who lived in Lafayette lived on beautiful, tree-filled streets. The kind with pretty homes and large yards. While attending DVC, I worked for a family in the Upper Happy Valley part of Lafayette, taking care of two children. I took them to school, the library, parks, dance classes, etc. Upper Happy Valley Road will actually take you on a scenic drive to Bear Creek Road and you can go from Orinda to Martinez. The police don't have much to do since there's a low rate of crime, so it's smart to call a cab if youre going to the downtown bars. (This is smart to do no matter where you are) The Round Up and Petars are two fun bars downtown, though, it's been a while since my friends and I have gone out in Lafayette. I think Round Up is cash only. The Lafayette Rerservoir is a wonderful spot for walking a pet or fishing. I used to run the 2.7 miles loop with my HS x-country team. We ran lots of the roads in town. Many are hilly and shaded. There is one hill near the high school with a parking area on top and I have watched shooting stars up there more than once. I bought one of my favorite snowboards at MiloSport some years ago. Millie's Kitchen is still a great place to eat breakfast. (Same with Squirrel's Cafe). Lots of good things about this little town. Plus, it's close to SF and has a BART station if youre a visiting tourist. If that's the case, check out the hill of crosses near BART.

There's also a huge number of cars for what's quite a small city, which means some extremely busy intersections, which the local police love to frequent for people running lights. The manicured, suburban housing is pretty nice, but also predictable and boring. There's lots of boutique shopping to be had, but for the big chain stores, you'll need to go to Walnut Creek. Large number of restaurants too, but none of them are outstanding vegan wise - although you could do worse than Chow. But given a choice, I'd probably still go to Whole Foods. For somewhere to live though, I really prefer Rockridge. Lafayette might be nice to visit once in a while, but don't stay too long.
