Everyday we hear stories about innocent people getting killed or injured by drunk drivers. I think I have driven thru 8-10 of these sobriety checkpoints in my life. I have no problem passing thru a DUI Checkpoint. But last night, I had a problem with the location of the DUI Checkpoint in Pittsburg, CA. Pittsburg/ Concord Police put a DUI Checkpoint on Kirker Pass before Buchanan Rd, as it becomes Railroad Ave. It was around 730pm, and traffic was backed up for miles on Kirker Pass eastbound. As we approached the break in the center median, I saw several drivers (including an ambulance) make an illegal U-turn to go back to Concord. I stayed in the traffic because I thought this traffic was due to the fire in Baypoint. The news was reporting that roads were closed, and drivers were using alternate routes. It wasn't until the traffic narrowed to 1 lane, that I saw the warning signs for a DUI Stop ahead. The police just waved cars thru.....no stopping. I did some research, apparently this is a successful location for catching impaired drivers and other violations. So this isn't the first time. Good job, but bad location.

Prior to coming and changing my name, I filled out the application online a few days prior and kept the reference number on hand. When entering the building, you get your number from a kiosk and wait your turn, as you would anywhere else. I waited about 40 minutes, when my number was called, the process took less than 10 minutes. I was in and out in under an hour, which is more than I can say for any other government building lol. Wait times can vary, but on a Tuesday morning it went by pretty fast, even though there was a line of 20 people in front of me. Looks like wait times will be long, but the staff are clearly very efficient. The lady who helped me was extremely nice and helpful, and answered all my questions. I'm glad I went here instead of another SSA location. 7 windows open, 3 closed. Not bad at all.

At that point, I was just two numbers away from being called. I asked the security guard why there weren't signs posted near the kiosks or a notice on the electronic board explaining this beforehand. He said they were short-staffed. I replied that perhaps they should at least advertise that people need to call ahead, instead of wasting the public's time and their staff's time. I then told the clerk I wanted to wait for a manager to discuss the inefficiencies. After another 10 minutes with no response, I left. This office is beyond ridiculous

Cute but had a terrible attitude when It was…read moretime for my number to be called the speaker and tv system didn't announce it, so he called it and I went over to his desk thinking I needed to see him before going over to the window, thought it was routine, yet he stares at me when I told him that was my number, he then says "ok" and I ask him where do I go he points at the screen in a very rude and authoritarian voice "look at the screen" which I did and just walked away, once seated with the person that helped me things got way better, she was super nice and thanked me for asking how her day was, bet they don't hear that often therefore I try to be nice to all public and government officials, yet I got an entitled security who takes his job way too seriously and definitely didn't want to be there, sad but a reality when they feel they are above you because of the place they work at, hope his days are better for him and being kind and personable doesn't hurt.

Several signs up saying firearms aren't allowed. This is a minor peeve of mine, as the 2nd amendment gives me the right to carry a firearm which SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. There's no law or statute that the sign references, so it looks like it's simply a policy of Contra Costa County, and last I checked, CCC doesn't get to override a federal constitutional law.

The officers were calm, compassionate, professional, and treated the child with dignity and empathy throughout a very high-risk situation. They quickly recognized the severity of the crisis, requested medical assistance immediately, and maintained remarkable composure during an emotionally intense encounter. In my field, I know how difficult these calls can be, and these officers represented the very best of crisis intervention and public safety. I walked in and security advise me what to do. Empty everything in a bucket and walk through the metal detector. The police officer was nice and told me where to go. The lady at the first window helped me. I forgot her name but she was amazing. Answered all my questions and provided the clarification I needed. The only thing sucks is I have to wait maybe a month or two until I receive the ticket to even do anything about it. Other than that, hopefully I'll never have to come here again, lol. While I entered, a lot of people were leaving due to jury duty. The establishment was nice and clean, very quiet. Had chairs to sit but I mostly wandered around.

I have been introduced to so many new people that I can use myself and for my business. The Chamber members go above and beyond for everything.
