Let me start out by saying I'm a die hard Apple fan and power user. My company is now all Apple phone and computers. I currently owned every iPhone, use MacBooks pro, 2 Mac studios, and owns big and small headphones. I have visited genius bars all over California, it is usually a good experience. People are enthusiastic to help. Not in Bakersfield. I left a scathing review a couple years ago Apple made Yelp remove it because of my mocking of the genius moniker :). It was the featured review for this store for a while until it was taken down :p This store is usually very helpful when I visit and drop thousands of dollars. The corporate account representative calls me regularly to ask if my company have any needs. So my iphone start to glitch and send calls to voicemail after one ring when I was on vacation. I have tried every solution I found online and it did not help. I tried to book a Genius Bar visit on the way home from airport and it is "not an included service" I went to store in person Sunday morning and the place was dead. A couple sales associates were standing around chatting. I was happy I get to talk to someone immediately. The guy holding the iPad looked annoyed to see me. I guess he was not in the mood to work on Sunday. When I explained the problem he immediately asked if I checked with the carrier first. I looked at him and said this is a pretty obvious software glitch. He really did not want to book me an appointment. I have no choice because this is a work phone and my job is to answer emergency calls from multiple hospitals and I cannot afford to wait to fix it. After twisting his arm, he told I could be seen 3-4 hours later and be on stand by. Just in case I was wrong, I stopped by Verizon at the same mall. The lady there would not even touch my phone and she said this is a known recurring software glitch and only Apple is able to fix. EH. I was met at the entrance by 4 employees. I told them what I wanted. One directed me to another person. That person directed me to yet another other employee. And that employee told me i needed an appointment. The first available was 5 hours from then. Why couldn't the 4 greeters help me? Was talking to her about a pickup only for her to completely ignore me and go talk to her coworker from across the room. She managed to take care of another customer and came back to a specific spot where I was at to move me out of the way so she could stand there and do nothing but talk. I recently visited Apple Genius Bar to have my broken screen fixed. Apple had 4 security guards at the door supporting them with Covid-19 precautions and compliance. They were polite and professional. Someone on staff was cleaning before and after every customer. On an average the store had approximately 4-8 customers at one time with a ton of space from one another. After my screen was fixed; the phone no longer would charge properly. I am an Apple snob and I'm not afraid to admit it. When it comes to products, I usually do all of my research online and by word of mouth. Going into a store is the last step so that I can make the purchase. This store is located in the heart of the Valley Plaza Mall which is a trek to fight all the crowds like salmon swimming up stream. There is usually a line out the door to check in. Once checked in it's so crowded it's difficult to check out merchandise. My usual wait times have averaged under 5 minutes. The employees that have assisted me have been friendly and knowledgeable. My biggest gripe is the manner in which many of them dress. I've seen bootie shorts, torn jeans, flip flops, etc. I'm aware Apple is trying to be cool, hip, and accessible to everyone, but it looks like I'm walking down Santa Monica Blvd instead of in a business selling high end technology. read more

Random people would walk up and ask short questions but the douche bag employees would just hang around and do nothing. They could cut their staff by 50 percent and the same amount of nothing would get done. Apple continues to sell cheap Chinese phones that are garbage and over charge for them. Avoid going to this store if apple support sends you to Apple Store for a replacement. I had problems with my AirPods Pro, talked to tech support and spent over an hour on the phone and they were not able to fix it. I shipped them to get repaired but they came back with the same problem. I called Apple support again. They told me to go to Apple Store in Valley Plaza and that they would swap my AirPods because it's a known problem and they can't fix it. I made an appointment and went to Apple store but Apple support and the store are not in the same page. The manager did not want to swap it. He said he did not have the tech to do it. Then why would Apple support sent me to a store that cannot swap the item. It makes no sense to me! The employee just needed the Manage's approval to swap them but he decided not do it. Instead he said he needs to ship it back to repair. I asked him if the AirPods came back with the same problem, will they swap it then? He said no they're probably ship it again to repair up to 4 times before they can swap them. Excuse me! What the heck! They have no common sense, and customer service sucks. Apple support approved a swap, but the store manager decided not to do it. I called Apple support again and they couldn't understand why the store manager could not swap them so they decided that they are going to swap them once they get to the repair department and ship me new ones. read more

Though I have no complaints about the apple products themselves, the current business model at this store--whether due to COVID-19 or not--is not conducive to business. My wife has been requesting a new phone for the past couple of months and we happened upon the apple store today. Seeing that there was no line we decided to venture in with my wife already knowing exactly what she wanted to purchase. We were greeted as usual, however when my wife said she wanted to purchase the new iPhone we were told that despite there being no line and no wait time to be helped, we needed an appointment to make a purchase and were offered a time slot for tomorrow. No line. No wait time. No service. If we continue to purchase apple products it will likely be through the big box stores who don't make such rules that seem to exist simply to feign exclusivity (note that I do understand that an appointment system, when busy, would be optimal and perhaps even necessary; but not in the scenario described above). read more

I've only had great service here at every visit. You do have to set up an appt if you need to have something serviced. I make sure to only make appts during the week, so I don't have to deal with a crowd. By doing this, I get helped right away and I'm out the door a lot quicker. I was very pleased with my service. Although very busy I was greeted with a big smile. The associate explained the process to wait or make a reservation and walked me to the proper technician. The technician informed me that there was an hour wait. I decided to wait the hour. I was alerted within 30 minutes to return where Ray who was very polite as well assisted me. Ray explained every step of what he was doing to reset my iPod and made sure that everything was complete and all questions answered before I left. Great service, great staff. Apple stores have this amazingly chic way of displaying all their goods. With full access to explore, touch, hold every device it's really no surprise these stores are hit by crummy thieves regularly. Because one thing Apple does right is brand consistency I can count on every store being laid out similarly- which I love. On this day... the day my iMac crashed... I found myself here at this Apple store. Credit card in hand it was strange to not find one sales person ready to pounce. I roamed the aisles waiting for someone to greet me. To at least say Hello. There were half a dozen employees bustling about by themselves. I didn't want to interrupt in case they were busy helping someone else, but it really made me question myself! After a good 15 minutes I finally walked right back up to the front where several were congregated and asked how I could purchase a computer. From there it was about 5 minutes in and out. I will say, carrying a 27" iMac through the mall alone was a little disconcerting. Someone could have easily jacked my $2500+ purchase. For gosh sakes, at least offer to help someone carry an item to their car! Overall, I was a little underwhelmed. Had a terrible experience on the iphone 11 pro max launch date. Anny at the store "helped me" however at the end of my transaction she ended up telling my the iPhone i had brought in as a trade in was not going to count towards my monthly payment and that instead i would get a cc credit. Which is not how I had done imy pre-order or what i had told her since the beginning of the whole process. Which took TWO HOURS. I was very disappointed when one of the managers came to talk to me and said my only option was to turn in the brand new iPhone that had already and Just been activated! You can just imagine.. after waiting for this launch and being so excited to been told i had to do a full return and that since there weren't any iPhones available i would have to wait until new ones came into the store Also after 2 whole hours that i spent with anny. Terrible. I came in to get my laptop fixed and was told to leave it so they can ship it to corporate. It was back less than a week later... I go, pick it up, came home and guess what?!? THEY GAVE ME SOMEONE ELSE'S LAPTOP. I REALLY needed my laptop for work. I was SUPER upset and afraid they gave MY laptop to someone else and misplaced it. I went back inside and they acted like if it wasn't a big deal... and took over 20 MINUTES. Horrible. DON'T TRUST THIS LOCATION, THE CHANCES ARE YOUR LAPTOP WILL BE MISPLACED. What a mess! Start with me going on the Apple site because my 2012 MacBook Pro had sound issues. The volume came out really diminished. The site allowed me to make a Genius Bar appointment. This is important to remember for what I'm about to share. The appointment was at 11:45am. This was my first of FOUR trips to the Apple store at the mall that day. Four. The first technician was very helpful and obviously knew his stuff. He ran diagnostics and opened the machine to check if there were mechanical issues. No mechanical issues were detected. Remember this too. Then he said we needed to turn the computer off to see what happened. When we did, the computer initiated the operating system update. This said it would take 42 minutes. I had been at Apple for over an hour by then and had a grocery delivery coming, so the technician and I agreed I would leave, put my groceries away and come back. I did. Trip two: same day. The computer was still updating (slowly) at 2:15pm. The technician (a new guy) suggested I go home while it continued to update. It should be noted that when I told the Apple staff that I couldn't reach them by phone at the store and I had been on hold for seven minutes, they told me, "oh, we never answer our phone." In other words, you can't reach human beings at Apple. I went home. Since I couldn't reach them by phone, at 5:00pm I went back to the Apple store. I figured after five hours, my computer should be ready. It wasn't. The technician, a new one again, said they would call me when it was ready. At 7:00pm I got a call. It went through to voice mail before I could answer and, in a slightly impatient tone, the technician said I'd "better come get my computer because they can't keep machines overnight." Did they think I was trying to leave my computer there? I had been to their store three times already that day, wasting my entire day on this repair. I drove to the store. It was 7:20 when I walked in, told a greeting technician that I was here for my computer and they passed me to a guy who greeted me by name. He was obviously familiar with my computer. He said my computer had completed the update. I asked if the original sound issue were resolved. Get this. He said, "no. We can't work on machines as old as yours, so we didn't try to address the sound issue." I'm sorry. What? I was given an appointment by an automated system that showed the device on the screen when I made the appointment. They were well aware that this was a 2012 MacBook Pro when the initial appointment was made. If the age of the device were an issue, the system shouldn't have allowed me to make an appointment in the first place. Also, when I brought the computer in, the technician went to work on it knowing it was a MacBook Pro year 2012. If the age of the device were an issue, he should have apologized and sent me away, not begun working on it. But when I came to pick it up at the end of the day all of a sudden they tell me they can't work on a computer from 2012. It should be noted that this computer has run beautifully before this trip to Apple. The only issue I have had is this recent sound issue. I took the computer home. When I turned it on all of my files were gone. All.my.files. There was no way to retrieve them. It seems that the system update did fix the sound issue. But that's no credit to the Apple company. That happened with the operating system update. Thankfully I do have a backup service I pay for, but downloading files to retrieve is a cumbersome and time-consuming process. Now, ever since my trip to the Genius Bar, my computer that used to run smoothly lags and has issues trying to get online or opening any file. I have sound, but my computer is not doing well after this "service." And, since you can't ever reach anyone who has any power or influence at Apple, I'm stuck with a damaged computer and missing files. read more

I went in and reserved a phone on Thursday night. On Friday I went in and was ready to purchase but because I was with Consumer Cellular they couldn't do it. They kept trying to get me to activate with one of the other major carriers. I was extremely displeased. They kept pushing me to go with one of the 4 major carriers. As a senior citizen on a fixed income all expenses are important. I don't like them trying to push me to a much more expensive provider. Needless to say I walked out without buying the phone. I totally dislike being treated in this manner. I was going to use my Apple Card to purchase and get the interest free financing and the cash back feature but it appears Apple attempts to push these other carriers. Quit waiting to be helped at phone stores only to be oversold things you don't need! Now you never have buy your phone at Verizon or AT&T again; you can avoid the headache of salespeople who are trying to make a commission at your expense and get in and out in record time! Up until last week I'd only ever purchased my cell phones at my carrier always dreading having to go in and either make an appointment or cross my fingers, roll the dice and hope I could just walk in. Usually I had to stand around for twenty minutes only to be taken down a long arduous process that involved me saying no to the sales pressure and telling them not to change my plan. You know how it is...nowadays there really isn't an incentive to buying your phone from the carrier. Gone are the days of actually getting a free phone with your contract. BUT I have good news! I walked in to apple, was helped in 30 seconds and holding my new phone in 20 minutes. I stuck around for another 25 minutes while my new phone backed up my current apps and info to make sure their weren't any problems. All in all this experience TOTALLY beats going to a cell carrier and they even offer financing for those who think they can only do that at a carrier. read more

I went to the Apple Store in the valley plaza mall to have my iPhone 6 diagnosed. I couldn't hear through the earpiece. I was told nothing could be done without an appointment. The next appointment? Sunday. Three days away. I run a business, and need my phone. I purchased a iPhone 7, Apple TV, and a bose, Bluetooth speaker. Got my Bose speaker home and unpacked it. Instead of a speaker, I got two large GALVANIZED BOLTS! Yes this was inside what appeared to be factory shrink wrap and "first serve" stickers were all in place. I returned the following morning and spoke with Adam Sullivan, the manager. 661-396-3480. He left me at his counter for over a half an hour while he reviewed video to make sure I paid. He returned, apologized for my loss of time. He simply exchanged the speaker and said that's a first. The absolute worst Apple experience I've ever embarked upon. Bose and Apple spend millions of dollars to make the unpacking experience an exciting one. Well I get a couple bolts and a kick in the ass as I walk out the door! This is reminiscent of a sloppy Craigslist transaction; without the smile. Nope. No help. My time isn't worth anything. Just a good ol' see ya! So thanks Adam Sullivan. He was extremely frustrated with not being able to do a few things so we dropped in for a consult and to purchase a few accessories. I cannot iterate how much a blessing Saul was in our learning journey. He was extremely helpful and patient with my son as if he was a father himself and yet he was a charming young man. An absolute seamless and expeditious visit to such a thriving store. Been at this Apple Store a few times now since my son's beats needed repair. We were standing in line waiting to be helped a good 15min and as soon as it was our turn to be helped, the rep helping us KEANU immediately helped another customer that wasn't in line before us. I think I wouldn't have been offended if the rep apologized and just moved forward, but he interrupted us as we told him we were in line first and continued to help the other customer first. As it is, I'm not a big fan of electronic stores and that guy just made it uncomfortable for us. I'm an iPhone owner and I love apple products, but if I can help it... You won't see me coming to this store because of the rudeness. There's just certain ways to handle situations. I just didn't like how the situation was handled and how unprofessional Keanu was.
