Tonight six of us attempted dinner at Applebee's. We got seated... and then immediately entered what I can only describe as the Applebee's Aging Program. No hello. No waters. No "be right with you." Nothing. Just six adults sitting there slowly aging in Booth #Whatever like a time-lapse documentary. At first it's casual waiting. Then it's "maybe they're busy." Then about 15 minutes in you start wondering if you've developed new wrinkles and if Social Security kicks in soon. Finally we stand up and leave. As we're walking out the bartender goes, "Oooo I saw you guys. That's not okay." My guy... you watched six people slowly turn into fossils and let the experiment continue. They've cleaned up their act, & the menu is better..Salads are fresh &French Onion soup is just right..not too salty & very cheesy. Service is fast & the staff works well together. Okay. The food was partially cold. I got the bourbon chicken. Potatoes were cold mashed potatoes. Cooled off mashed potatoes, yeah that's just not something that's good. If they were going to smother it and gravy maybe it would be okay because the gravy would be hot but those potatoes are not smothered in anything. It's like it sat and waited for the rest of the meal to be cooked. Spent almost a hundred bucks there on three people. I expected my food to be piping hot. Yeah I don't recommend it. The other thing it's freezing cold in there. I don't know if they know how to regulate the temperature but yeah if it was 90° outside. It was NOT it was cold and rainy. Another late night food grab. We opted for something we were familiar with and chose Applebee's. Plenty of parking here. Entering I was taken back as the place was fairly empty...on a Saturday night! We ate at the bar. I ordered the Strawberry Balsamic Chicken salad...which I've had before...and which again, tasted great! I love the food consistency of this chain...regardless of the location. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here. I also partake as they honor veterans on Veterans Day. I believe they should look at making some menu changes as it has grown a little stagnant in the last decade. They should experiment with limited offerings over time as a way to add new regulars to their menu. Never an object to eating at any of their chain locations! read more

We decided to stop at this Applebees location for dinner on a trip through Billings. There were four of us on a trip from Canada. We don't have many Applebees locations North of the border so were looking forward to dinner. First off, the food was great! i love having the Salmon and it was cooked perfectly. Everyone else enjoyed their food also. When we entered the hostess dully greeted us and immediately asked us if we wanted a high top. We didn't think that boosting Grandma up was a logical choice so we requested a booth. She was clearly, immediately annoyed but lead us to a booth. When our server arrived at our table he was also obviously irritated that we were sitting in his section. He immediately asked us what we wanted to drink and without a chance to yet open the drink menu we requested water to start. Again, irritated as he spun and marched away. (Please let me add that had they not wanted more diners in this section, all they needed to do was inform us and we would have been happy to wait or go elsewhere. We assume this was the issue but were not told.) He returned with our waters quite quickly which was nice yet we still were not ready to order. Again, he was annoyed and spun on his heels to leave. We watched as he kindly smiled and chatted with other tables that he was serving which was boggling. Grandma decided to make it her mission to have him smile and we all joined in on that by being extremely kind and smiley. We did manage to receive a few tight lipped "smiles", while the other tables won big smiles, laughter and joking while chatting with him. When he did return to take our order he strongly smelled of cigarettes which was slightly off putting being in a restaurant but hey - we all have our things. The food arrived quickly and again, was very good. We left a decent tip as we know how important this is to servers, even if they are feeling like a cranky pants. We will definitely be back to Applebees, just not this location. read more

Tonight my friends and I had the worse service ever. Our server seemed very nice but she had no clue what to do. She left the menu scattered on the table, never refilled our waters or asked us how our meal was or if we needed anything else. Everything we asked for she had to be reminded about. It was as if she had no training. When one of my friends went up to the bar to get a take home box, she mentioned about our service. We assumed that she was the manager. She was very rude. She used an attitude when she approached our table to tell us that she was new. I said then why did you give her so many tables because our service has not been good. She should have followed a master server until she understood her role and what it curtailed. No apologies. If she would have explained in a better tone of voice, we might have understood. Plus her outfit was maybe appropriate for Vegas but not a family restaurant like Applebees. My friends had good meals but for $19.99 for Salmon, I would have liked to have hot food. I doubt that we will come back. It is so sad to see Applebees go downhill like this. It used to be the best place to go with the best service. read more

We're trying to eat vegan or at least vegetarian. We asked to have our meat dishes transformed by bypassing the chicken and ground beef in our dishes and subbing with grilled mushrooms. Ordered on line for carside pickup. Got home and the mozzarella sticks were missing. Called them and was told they are out but won't refund the cost of them. The manager said come in later and they'll give me some. I'm never going back after that response. read more

I would give a zero if I could! With all the restaurants struggling and closing you would think the ones still open would try to make the outrageous prices and quality of food better for people who still try to support local restaurants. I took my family to eat at the west end location last night. We waited 10 min after being seated before we were greeted, then another 15 before we got our drinks. When our food came, one dish had a long black hair in it that was so obvious if an expo had even looked at the plate they would have noticed it before bring it to our table. Our well done burger was pink and the fries were cold. We asked for sides of ranch, napkins and refills and did not get them until half our food was eaten or for some, cold. Drinks were empty most of the meal and dirty plates from our appetizers were left on the table so we had no room for our main courses. All the server did was take drinks off. I spoke to the manager who thanked me for my comments and said she was sorry. Will not return to this location! I will take my family of 6 and spend our money somewhere else! read more

Partners Bday and se opted to have lunch at Applebees on740 24th St Billings MT. I informed waitress it was her Bday and waitress said to her are you 27? Partner is 64 so that was a bit much but ok. I said wow I will be answering her all day on that compliment. The waitress said tough she looks 27 and deal with it! I said nothing as I did not want to ruin girlfriends Bday. But today my Girlfriend said that waitress was rude yesterday andout of place. Totally out of place, rude, in my face for what I do not know. If she had a bad day take it outside the work place. We have eaten at this Applebee's location a number of times as its as a nationwide chain is somewhat of a default on indecisive times of selecting a place to eat. Over all I have been pretty happy with the seating times, food and beverage. I did find that some of the items on the menu were a little non-traditional so I wasn't sure if they had an exclusive menu there or were testing ideas not available at other locations. Despite that very minor confusion on some of the items I would return again. read more

I came here with my wife, brother, his wife and my son while we were Christmas shopping. I have come here multiple times before, but this experience ruined any prior positive experiences for us. We stood by the door for 20 minutes without being seated. The place was nearly empty, so my wife asked what the hold up was, and was told that they would serve us when they got around to it as they were short staffed. Not even a courtesy "We will be with you." The hostess just stared intently at the seating chart, ignoring us. We left and won't be back. read more

For it to come out not as ordered to be sent back and then have to box it up in separate containers with not a peep from management or anything. Yup. 5-Stars. I don't care if it's a greasy taco stand in San Diego or Gibson's of Chicago. When 5-Stars are "earned", I'll dole them out. Since it opened in the early 90's this particular Applebee's has never been anything but a two or three star (on their best days) restaurant. I'm not sure if ownership changed or there's a new manager in town but upon entering today I thought to myself, "Self, something is different"! My wife and I were greeted a total of three times on our way to the bar for a "corner spot" where we could semi-face each other. I mentioned to the bartender "You've remodeled"! She replied, "Yeah, a year ago April". WOW! Had it really been that long since my last visit? I guess so. The new tables and chairs were very comfortable and the entire bar had been redone. The decor was much better with one wall dedicated to local sports teams instead of the entire restaurant. It just felt more comfortable. Then menu was updated too but a lot of the old favorites remained. I decided to splurge today and ordered the Bourbon Street Steak w/ New Potatoes. The wife ordered some chicken thingy off their 550 calorie menu. According to her, the chicken was perfectly cooked, moist, and delicious. My steak was outstanding and brought to me piping hot! Cooked to a perfect medium-rare and served over sauteed mushrooms and onions with their signature Bourbon Street spice. Delicious! Next time I'll order this meal with EXTRA onions they're sooo good. Our bartender/server was exceptional. Yes, it was early for lunch, 11:30, but still, she was Johnnie-on-the-spot. My iced tea never made it half way empty without a refill. 25 minutes after walking in the door we were walking out. Three farewells on our way out and a 5-star review. I have been to this same Applebee's twice in 2 weeks and have had excellent and timely service and great food. The waiters have been friendly, courteous, and attentive. Absolutely will return as we are visiting for the summer. read more

I would have to say if your looking to eat healthy this is a good choice they do give you a variety of healthy choices. Sub-par service at the 24th street location. Sat for at least 15 minutes before our waitress came to our table. I got the impression from our server any question I asked about menu items was dumb. Anything she asked me was a rhetorical question. The brisket street tacos were bland at best and soggy. Ate half of one. Fries were for sure under a heat lamp for a good 20 minutes. I am a repeat costumer when it comes to applebees!! They have great burgers and pasta!! There is a very nice variety of choices and all of them are 5 star worthy!! Stopped at this Applebees for an early supper, about 3pm on Thursday. The staff was very friendly and accomodating, however our waitress seemed in a hurry. She was professional and competent though. My wife and I ordered the steak with mushrooms, onions and potatoes. It arrived at the table sizzling hot and I have to admit, it was the best steak I ever ate! My wife agreed! It was cooked perfectly and was tender and juicy! The potatoes were seasoned perfectly also! All in all, a superb meal at a reasonable price...one app and two entrees for $24.00! read more

My Wife and I go there anytime we want quick, very good food quick at a good price. The pretzel sticks are always a go to. Always piping hot food that comes out quick. I came here with my cousin to just have a girls night and was surprised by a new menu. This menu seemed creative, modern, and small to focus on quality. My cousin and I both had the house sirloin and I asked for mine to be cooked medium, and it was perfect. All in all the food was great and I would rate that a 5. The service on the other hand was slow, cold, and almost nonexistent. Our waitress seemed to have a chip on her shoulder even when we tried to be nice and funny with her. So not only did my parents soup and salad (something i know the server personally makes) took 45 minutes. Mildly ridiculous however I would have let that slide if they would have delivered the right food but no when they finally brought the food it was the wrong salad dressing and the wrong soup. I got my burger before them, something that should take three times as long as a soup and salad. Then we were offered water but didn't get it until asking over 3 times. I just wanted to address the fact that others had ordered and eaten and left before us even though they arrived after and we still got the wrong order. So i asked for the manager in a diplomatic manor He came out already annoyed, was so rude to me about the entire issue, ripped the receipt out of my hand and crumpled it and then walked off. instead of being apologetic or sympathetic about the situation he simply said in a rude manner "well we are busy and i'm swamped". I did not ask for his excuses or what was even going on even, if you are busy should i not get the correct order? I have never been treated with more disrespect and honestly the worst service of my entire life and that is saying a lot. Honestly i will never eat Applebee's sad microwaved attempt at food ever again and i will never recommend this one to anyone. read more

I don't think I've ever stood up and walked out of a restaurant - until visiting this Applebees. My wife and I, hoping for a relatively quick lunch came in here. First, the hostess, who seemed to be perplexed about just about everything, Offered us a high-top, a booth, or a table. We picked the booth...but there were none. We picked the high top...but there were none. We finally picked a table, and she kind of lit up, because they actually had tables. Next we sat, and were offered water and given menus. We glanced at the menu because we only had to find the salad section, and pick a salad. Doesn't take long to make a selection from 5 things. The waitress came back (no water) and took our order of two diet Pepsi's, we reminded her about the water. Ten minutes later, after seeing many others seated and quickly serviced, we pushed the "call your waitress" button on the electronic menu/games/payment screen at the table. A red light starting flashing drawing attention to ourselves from everybody but our waitress. In fact, she came back to take the order from the people in the next booth and could be seen purposefully moving around the service area, always out of ear-shot, and never looking at us for any kind of acknowledgement. After a total of abut 20 minutes, we stood up to leave. A different girl was approaching us with our two salads. We simply told her, "too late" and walked out of the restaurant. Admittedly, the place was very busy. Admittedly, good help is very hard to find with Montana's economic growth. Quality service level people can generally find a better job. That said, when you're busy, you hurry to help people rather than neglect them. We generally stay away from national restaurant chains, and this is why. There are just too many places to eat to give places like this a second chance. Sorry, Applebees, you didn't make the grade, or any grade. read more

Applebees is one of those places that serves OK food with always great service. There are some good items on their menu but as you might expect with most restaurant chains, nothing that absolutely makes them a destination restaurant. I have rated Applebees higher before, but this one is about their "fish-and-chips". I'm no stranger to this fare, but here is my take. The slaw is served with the fish, but it amounts to little more than a sampling you might get at a grocery store open house.. The fish "chips" were deep-fried as you would anticipate, but then they were apparently just put right on the plate. The cooking oil pooled up on the plate making the batter on the bottom soggy and nasty. Eating those chips was very similar to slurping canola oil out of a spoon. Where the batter was crisp, the chips were pretty good, but they were crisp on the top and downright disgusting on the bottom. Not good. Ok...so the bottom line is that Applebees is OK for most food items, but avoid the fish and chips unless you need a lube job on your digestive system. Service at this particular place....ALWAYS great! As for me, its back to the burgers! read more
