I need to start by saying that the service was A+++++++ and I don't blame them one bit. Sydney M was amazing! There was another woman, too, but I forget her name. She was wonderful, too. Ok, so, we started with crab cakes and oysters. The oysters were East Coast oysters and I'm from NY, so I had to get them. I haven't had raw oysters in over 20 years, and these did not disappoint! They were so delicious, I ordered 4 more, but they only had one more of the one I wanted, and I happily took it. The crab cakes were good, too. So maybe we should have quit while were ahead.... It took an hour to get our meals, and when we did, I was unimpressed. Mine was slopped onto the plate, with mashed potatoes smeared on the side and the sauce dripped on sides of the inside of the rimmed plate. The potatoes looked congealed, like they had been sitting out, and they had, because the food was cold. I asked for it to be heated up, and I'm fairly convinced they microwaved it, because the plate was warm, but the food still wasn't. The steak was extremely salty, potatoes gluely, and the broccolini was bitter and woefully under seasoned. My husband offered to switch plates. He has the pasta, which was also not very good, but at least it was hot. The description said andouille sausage, but it was clearly kielbasa, and the sauce was greasy and separated. Who hired these so-called chefs? Where did they get their degree? Do they even have one? We go out to eat so rarely. I'm a fantastic cook myself, so when we go out, we want the food we order to be better than what I can make at home. Especially at $30 a plate. So, alas, they get 2 stars, for the excellent service, the delicious oysters, and the beautiful ambiance. They apologized profusely and took my horrible dinner off our bill. We are so grateful for that. We will be back for a pretzel. And more oysters. read more

Ate at the Granary regularly in the '90s. Left the city for 20 years & returned eight years ago. Took friends from out of state there last fall ('25). Food was just pretty bad...cold, but we were distracted by conversation and none of us finished meal. I apologized on our way out and thought it was just a bad night for them. Now the rest of the story (& it takes a nose dive! Our anniversary this year (Aug 13, '26) my wife made reservations through open table. Arrival, hostess didn't know how to look it up apparently. Two couples in the dining area in two separate booths out of six. We were taken to a table about six feet from the kitchen doors. My wife asked if we could have a booth. No, unless we wanted to sit in the close banquet room. We sat at the table where we had to listen to the assumed be cook swearing and yelling at, again assuming, wait person about how busy he was. SIX PAYRONS, remember? Our wait person arrived after some time, couldn't remember the specials or soups. Forgot to take our drink order, came back for it (ice teas) and never saw her again in the 35 minutes we waited. REMEMBER, six guests! We left and will never go back. This outfit should close, better to the leave place abandoned with reputation they're getting. Do not patronize the miserable place. read more

Waiter friendly, though wait times for ordering, drinks, food a bit long. The dining room near empty, but busy outside. The old fashioned was great! I ordered the homemade ravioli...delicious! However, small serving and it didn't come with anything. No bread, no veggie, no salad. Something else on the side would have completed the meal. It was expensive for what I got. Great food, service, ambiance. Sat at the bar and read my book. My receipt didn't have the bartenders name listed, but she was very nice. Had a hard time picking what to order because everything sounded good. I got an iced tea, burrata app that came with blueberries and blueberry balsamic glaze. Wish I would've taken a picture but I was too hungry. I ordered the airplane chicken which was amazing. I have been going to the Granary for many years, from its time as a steakhouse to high-end dining, and then to a more casual, sports-bar sort of place. The service has always been excellent, the staff are friendly, and it has one of the best patios in Billings. However, it has become one of the most expensive restaurants in Billings, for the quality and quantity of food served. A friend and I ate there last week, and after two Manhattans and two entrees, the bill came to almost $200.00 without the tip. I went home hungry and fix something to eat at home. read more

One of the worst meals I've had in Billings to date. The appetizer listed as "chicken dumplings" turned out to be freezer burned commercial gyozas that we lukewarm and leathery. The entree I settled on, after being told that they were out of the bone in pork chop and all the steaks, was the baked airline chicken breast. That poor, poor chicken... Firstly, at $30 it was ridiculously small and being over cooked didn't help; dry and flavorless. Accompanying was a thin smear of potato puree that was way over salted, and sauteed asparagus that was a vegetable crime scene, way over salted and peppered, mixed sizes so a few of the spears were al dente but the small thinner spears were verging on mush. The kitchen has no idea of how to execute the menu and should go back to McDonalds where the cuisine would match their skill set. The service was attentive and I felt so sorry for my waitress, she deserved a better product to serve. The bar did a quite adequate job with my martini and the wine list, though small, was interesting and varied. I'd go back for cocktails. It is a very nice, up scale and comfortable space, it's a pity that their kitchen's abilities are more suited to a greasy spoon. read more

Just come for dessert. My parents took my husband and I out to dinner at the Granary. Our server, Kim was very friendly and has a great laugh. She gave us great service and her fun personality just shined. My husband and Dad ordered the Paella, which was just ok. It didn't have much flavor and only a few pieces of seafood. I ordered the Nicois salad, which was brought to me without the ahi tuna - the kitchen staff let me know this was her mistake & that she would get my tuna out right away (which she did). My salad also seemed to be missing the dressing on it so just didn't quite taste right. Mom had the Louis salad, which she enjoyed. We ordered a nice Pinot Grizzio, which went well with all our entrees. Our server Kim ordered bread to be delivered to our table, but the kitchen did not bring it so she gave us a dessert on the house due to the serving errors. We had what I would call a s'mores charcuterie, which was more than enough for all four of us to share. The dessert was home made fluff served with graham crackers, Oreo crumbles and white & choc. chips. It was delicious & one of the most creative dessert I've ever had. There is definitely room for improvement on the food. The prices are far too expensive for what you get & flavor of the food (with the exception of our dessert). Kim gets four stars for service and the rest of the staff was friendly. I enjoyed looking at all the old of photos on the walls and liked the ambiance. Just come for dessert & a drink. read more

We had our first meal here and really liked the ambiance and friendly service. The giant pretzel and mussel appetizer were excellent! Unfortunately, the main courses were hit or miss. The French fries that came with three of our entrees were cold and soggy, and even the kids commented on it. My daughter's steak was tasty, but my bone-in pork chop was dry and served over leeks that weren't very enjoyable. For the price, I expected a bit more substance -- maybe a starch or side that complemented the dish better. read more

Confused - had dinner here - things were quite mixed. Service was slow, but we suspect a server had let them down and not shown up. The waitress needed quite some alerting to attend to us. Entrees were a mixed bag. Sprouts were delicious. Paella seemed to have been cooked by a confused person who likely has never visited Spain. Instead of a saffron yellow a brown tasteless porridge made up mainly of peas (not mentioned on the menu) was produced. Chorizo was allegedly included - but Poirot would have been needed to investigate the traces to affirm it was present (the taste surely was not). The wine offering was good - ordering a Napa Cab resulted in similar random results. A decent central California cab was produced but not a Napa Cab as ordered.. This restaurant seems to be run by a schizophrenic poorly travelled chef who will arbitrarily replace or add ingredients. Ultimately seemed like a casino for food. my wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at this restaurant. I unfortunately left my sunglasses on the table and realized once I got back to the hotel that I left my glasses and when I went back, the restaurant was closed so since July 8, I've tried to call them at least 15 times and emailed them twice. I've been on hold for at least 2 1/2 hours over the last 15 attempts to call them I've emailed them nobody ever returns my emails nor does anybody ever answer the phone, I will never go back to this restaurant. Their service sucks. I do take responsibility for leaving my but was hoping that somebody would have at least called me to let me know that they had saved them, but I am assuming at this point that somebody at the restaurant probably just gained $150 pair of sunglasses..... very disappointed with the unfortunate poor professionalism by this establishment. The Granary has the best patio in town so I was excited it was cool enough to eat outside. Was a little disappointed in the upkeep of the patio - needed a good hose down on the ground and tables. That said the server was wonderful and very patient. The oysters and crab legs were excellent according to my husband (I don't eat sea bugs). This place was a mixed bag. Went there for lunch. The tuna tostadas were great. The pasta was ok. Had good flavor, noodles were just ok. Pretty pricy. Good food and atmosphere with exceptionally slow service. We have had 3 poor experiences in a row. Last week, it took over 2 hours for our meal of burgers and salads to make it to the table. Our expensive wine was gone an hour before our food. For the trouble, we received a free dessert. We had a similar experience the prior time we tried dinner. Staff forgot to put our order in, so we waited 2.5 hours for meals. I sent an email to management with my concerns, and they have not responded. I would recommend spending your hard earned money elsewhere that values customer service and communication. read more

My wife and I celebrated her birthday here on 9/12 we had a 5 PM reservation for two. The food was excellent as was the staff, we were enjoying our time in this quiet part of the restaurant. There were two ladies next to us who were also enjoying their wine etc. Then came a gaggle of females who right off the bat were very loud and obnoxious. The noise got so loud the two ladies next to us picked up their silverware/ wine and moved to another table exclaiming to us that it was difficult to have a conversation and we agreed. During this time more and more feral females came in to join the rest of the obnoxious bunch. We could have enjoyed it more and stayed longer but one can only take so much so the wife and I left. My compliments to the staff whom had to deal with such filth, I hope they got a good tip. As for me and my wife we'll not return to this establishment and we definitely will not recommend this establishment to friends and family. They can keep their clientele of ferals... My only recommendation to the proprietor would be to start addressing such behavior so that all guests have a peaceful and enjoyable time with their family and friends when they do support your establishment. read more

Food and service were excellent. However - I ordered a mocktail and was served a regular cocktail. After taking a sip, I verified with the waitress that there was no alcohol in the drink, and she confirmed. Several minutes later the bartender came by, profusely apologizing, saying that there was alcohol in the drink. I haven't had an alcoholic drink in 8 years, and I am also pregnant. So I was pretty upset by the whole thing. Just be very wary if ordered a non-alcoholic beverage. read more
