We decided to go to Applebee's for my boyfriend's birthday. We went early in the evening so we were seated immediately. Our server, Mario greeted us shortly after being seated and he took our drink order. We already knew what we wanted, we got the 2 for $30 and both of us got steak. I like Applebees but this has been the worst location I've been to. 3 of us were seated at the bar where a lamp, that so low to the table, kept bumping into our foreheads. Due to the awkward placement of that lamp we requested to sit at a booth. Our waiter had absolutely no problem with that and directed us to a booth. A couple minutes after we sat, the host came to our table with attitude saying that the section was closed. We told him the waiter sat us and he walked away annoyed. I wish I could leave a review of the food here, but you see, that's the problem... we never got any. Today, Christmas Eve day, my wife and I decided (against our better judgment) to try a different Applebee's location. We usually go to the Plaza Bonita restaurant cause the service there is great, the servers are fast and courteous, and the food never disappoints! But today, being a holiday and all, we figured we should avoid the mall area because of the last-minute shopper traffic. As we pulled up to this location in south Chula Vista we were happily surprised to see hardly any cars in the parking lot outside, YAY! We park, walk in right at the start of happy hour, 3pm, and are greeted by a confused looking greeter. We tell him "Two" in our party, he asks us about our preference in seating, then proceeds to take us somewhere else. We respectfully reiterate our preference to sit at the table that's in between the other customers as we think this could only make it easier for the server and possibly make it quicker for us to be served. After being seated, and immediately figuring out what we want to eat and drink (we were hungry before we got there), which was easy because we were there for the happy hour menu, I took a look around just to see how many customers were here. I was stoked to see hardly anyone there. Two other parties at the tables on either side of us and one on the other side of the wall, each about 3-4 people. At the bar were maybe 5 people, but they have a separate server, so I think "This shouldn't take long"...boy was I wrong! We sit, we chat, we talk about what to order, what looks good, how thirsty and hungry we are, and how nice it is to be here with hardly any other customers, all the while noticing the server going to the table behind us, then on the other side of the wall from us, then BACK to the table behind us again, without once ever bothering to say anything, such as "I'll be right with you", or "Please give me a minute and I'll take your order", NOTHING! We came in exactly at 3pm, it was now 3:23 (I looked at my watch), and no contact with anyone about our order. I noticed that the party at the table behind my wife had actually left minutes after we arrived, so for the majority of our waiter time it was only 3 parties there, ourselves and 2 others. Yet, for some reason our "server" (hmmm) could not handle the load. I don't think I've EVER seen a less efficient person in this position before. To be able to hover around the tables all around us, and yet somehow manage to avoid us completely, takes some doing! You'd think we did something to deserve this, but had actually had NO interaction with anyone after the greeter. I always make sure our menus are placed at the edge of our table to give a server the hint that we're ready to order. This amazingly slow server obviously doesn't know/care about this. At the aforementioned time of 3:23, my wife, who doesn't usually like to leave because of bad service (that's usually me), actually suggested it to my surprise. As I agreed immediately, she hesitantly said "Let's give them 5 more minutes". Big shock...still, no service. We had shoes, we had shirts, but we had no service. As we slowly got up to leave I looked around, half-anticipating someone, ANYONE...to say "Oh I'm sorry about the wait, we'll be right with you", yet no one, not a soul (including the greeter) offered a peep as we slowy, hungrily, walked out dissatisfied, to say the VERY least! I can't believe that any restaurant could employ someone as incompetent as that non-server! Not being able to handle 3 tables at once, a total of 8 people, WOWWWW. This is a very bad look for Applebee's. I will continue to patronize the Plaza Bonita location, but I will do all I can to let others know to avoid this location, it's trash! read more

Long story short in the beginning, it was a lady I don't remember her name but she had glasses and she was rude when we ordered food and drinks she would bring other people's orders first even though we ordered like 20min ahead. My wife and I ate here for the first time with friends a few weeks ago for a holiday party. The night that we were there, the place was packed and there were no empty tables in the place. I was surprised to see that the service was "spot on" and that one server was able to take care of around 25 of us without missing a beat. Due to a medical condition that was diagnosed a few months ago, I am on a restricted diet and always get nervous when eating out. Fortunately, Applebee's has a "fit fare" menu that didn't look half bad. I ordered the chicken caprese dish which came out great. My wife and all of our friends got their food within a reasonable amount of time and it all was served warm (which I was surprised due to the number of dinners that were ordered). This is a great applebees! I came here with my mom for lunch and was greeted right away by the host Luis, He was very friendly and asked how my day was. Our server Roman was very friendly as well and always checked up on us and filled our drinks without even having to ask. I really like their selection on the 2 for 20 and the 2 for 25 menus. You get an appetizer and two entrees. Drinks aren't included. The onion rings we ordered were excellent and our meals were delicious. The onion rings were perfectly crispy. My mom really liked their BBQ sauce we had with the onion rings. I must say the dessert shooters are a MUST TRY they are so good! I ordered all three and couldnt even finish them but they were excellent. The chocolate mousse shooter was my favorite! Overall a very nice applebees with excellent service! read more

I don't hardly give five stars, but this place was on point today. Our waitress (Summer B.) was super nice and she was on top of everything. Even though she was about eight months pregnant and on her feet all day, she never let our glasses get below half way and was super friendly and efficient. She checked on us about four or five times. We only had to wait maybe two minutes to get seated because they had some sort of meeting in the back of the restaurant but that was fine. The appetizer, salad, main meal, and the dessert were all on time and very tasty. The lighting and atmosphere were great. I have nothing bad to say about this place. She deserved the 50% tip we left her. :) We will definitely be back to this location and recommend this place. read more

There were 4 of us, booths were open, but we were refused seating, After 30 minutes, we were seated in the booths that were open. The waitress took our orders, then... My friend ordered chicken ceasar salad and was brought a garden salad. My other friend had 1 mushroom on her burger and it wasn't cooked all the way thru (red in the middle), my other friend had cold fries, as well as I. Ordered the extra side of boneless wings, was brought the wrong ones, and when new ones were given, they were cold and all they are is chicken nuggets. Manager was going to give us a discount, but we had already paid. We asked for separate checks, and when the waitress brought our bill, it was all together. And we had paid on the table machine. Since I moved to Chula Vista barely over a month ago I have been here about 6 or 7 times. I like the food a lot (especially the Stuffed Rigatoni) and the specialty drinks I get here. That being said, the manager Federico has been very friendly and has always made me feel appreciated. Nasty, who's hands were on the foil. Only had one order of mozzarella sticks when it should've been 2. No ceaser dressing AGAIN for the salad. Came in last night. Hostess was "interesting" maybe she was tired but her entire demeanor was "blah". Typically hostesses are bubbly and happy to help...but not last night. Service is horrible! Food was not made as requested. When we pointed out (nicely) whatever we saw wrong server (Denise) would not show concern and we felt her attitude towards us. Our sides were brought before our main course. We asked for a coke and we were brought a Pepsi (ok, no problem) we asked if they carried coke products and server answered no with out offering alternatives and walked away. Food quality isn't even that good will definitely not go to this specific Applebee's ever again. Don't recommend this location at all. just now Unfortunately this place seems to be a hit or miss experience. We are new to the area from another state. Just moving here November 19th so my husband could pursue a job opportunity. We ordered here for the holidays being we dont really know anyone yet and over heard the man "Abraham" taking our order complaining who orders food for Christmas when he thought he put my husband on hold. We over looked it. Got home only to realize our order was wrong. Took back the order because we are on a special diet. Decided to report the person who took the order because maybe if he wasn't complaining the order might have been put in right. The manager was understanding and had our order remade. But still got home and our steak was not cooked as requested. Next bad experience, we ordered food online. Which said they open at 10am on Sunday. Went to pick up, order wasn't made and was told they open at 11 but they started cooking our order early. Okay, so we waited for our order, no problem. Got home and the chicken was hard on the outside and so dry as if it had been reheated in an oven or microwave or maybe they cooked it frozen without thawing out. I don't know what gave it that hard, very dry, rubbery texture. The broccoli was shriveled and looked reheated as well and wasn't even a full serving. When we have had a good experience there is one cook who seems to take pride in what they do and the food is so good. Im sad to say I don't know which cook this is but it has been when we order in the evening. This person should get the recognition they deserve. I do not want to believe this same cook served us what we received this morning. So if it wasn't I hope this review weeds out the ones who should not be in this business. We are not the kind of people who like to complain so we have decided we will not be doing business here again.
