Fun divey spot and there was live music on the day we went! Loved the decor and lighting in here. There's also pool tables and a lil board game corner! $5 drink specials and happy hour. They have a touchtunes machine so you can play songs from your phone and change up the vibe. Limited parking but if you're coming to drink you shouldn't be driving anyway lol XD read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for 35 plus years and never thought I would step foot inside Salty Dog bar. Being a non frequent drinker, hole-in-the wall bars just never caught my fancy. And, only then will I entertain a night out unless I'm with the right group of people. I've been to this bar several times now and it's been nothing but good old fashion fun. You can be yourself and no one bothers you. It's not crazy crowded, at least when I've been there during the weekdays. I can actually find a seat at the bar or just lounge in the back area on a couch. There are also tables and chairs to choose from. There has been a DJ, live band, karaoke or just plain music jammin. The highlight for me: the bar tenders ! They were attentive and friendly. Shout out to Justin and I forgot young looking female bartender's name. Shout out to her too This bar may not be as lit and inviting looking from the outside, don't judge. Best dive bar in San Diego, whether it's live music youre looking for , bar games or just a date night with a couple drinks .. hasn't been a day I've come here where I didn't feel welcomed .. the drinks are delicious !! I love going to this bar , however be very careful , some female bartenders will try to charge you more that What your ordering specifically if your intoxicated. Keep an eye on your orders and always confirm the price for each drink so there is no surprises. Overall is a cool chill bar. read more

Attended a 'sold out show'. So appreciate that it wasn't packed. Also, not overly loud. So refreshing. Comfortable. And may I say, their popcorn is as good as my husband's stove top, butter and salt homemade! Never have had popcorn anywhere as good as his!!! read more

The salty frog has a great staff. They have live bands Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. And every night there is something going on. Karaoke Thursday's, comedy and open mike on Sundays and more!! This is a fun little bar. It's definitely divey, if you're looking for something like that. So, as you might expect, drinks are affordable, and there is no cover at the front, thankfully. The front area is mainly for live music, and most of it tends to be local rock bands with some occasional variation. There is a back area for billiards, which I haven't partook yet. It is perhaps a nice area for some other activity that would put the music in the background. The crowd is somewhat eclectic. They get their fair share of locals as well as those who are there for particular bands or types of music. The clientele is generally nice and interesting. Parking: Street, anywhere you can find it, which is likely off the main street and into the residential areas. Thankfully, there are no meters. FYI: - Take advantage of the check-in deal if at all possible. - If you're not here for billiards or the music, I cannot imagine many other areas (if any) that would simply just be for quietness. read more

Great vibes, great music, great people, and the staff brings the energy! They make everyone feel special. Alcohol selection is better than most especially for a dive bar, and they have a good beer selection(tap and bottle) as well. Highly recommend checking it out! You can come with friends or even solo and still have a blast! They have a range of fun from karaoke nights, trivia nights, and live bands all the time. Catch people dancing on the dance floor, or in the back playing pool, bumper pool, or shuffle board. :) read more

If you're looking for a dive bar, well then this is the bar for you. Many interesting people from all kinds of walks of life. It can either excite you or scare you. Either way, it's entertaining. Drinks are cheap. Theres a jukebox and there are also local bands that play during the week. I heard tuesdays were the best days to go. Bartenders are cool and friendly. Ive never been here when it was totally packed, which I enjoy. They dont serve food but you're welcome to bring food in. Chill, no frills. Perfectly fine with me. read more

I like this place. The people are nice, the beer and liquor is priced fairly, and they have good bands come through. Where else can you pee next to a poster of Jason Statham? No where, unless you know Jason Statham and he is down with that kinda thing. Go here and have a beer. read more

Took my mom and a friend here on Halloween. I had been warned that an employee named Raven was very rude and to avoid the nights she was there but I took a chance since it was Halloween. We hadn't even been there 30 minutes when she started yelling at me and my friend about clinking our glasses. Her attitude started an argument where she then took our drinks away that were still half full after we had paid for them. Then kicked us out screaming at us the whole time. The fact that this place employs such a person and so many people know of her attitude just makes me realize that this is not the bar for me. I will never ever be returning and will tell everyone I meet to avoid this place! read more

I go mainly on Tuesdays because of their deal they have from 6pm to 10pm, they flip a coin, if it comes up tails your drink is regular price, if it comes up heads you get your drink for a quarter. so either regular price or a quarter, no downside! the bartenders are cool, one of them is a hot chick with tats, two dudes that me and my friends have gotten cool with Its usually a chill bar randomly gets packed. there's two pool tables and a shuffle board table which becomes fun when drunk lol. also lots of tvs either showing sports, or cartoons which is pretty funny getting drunk while power puff girls, robot chicken, and football is playing at the same time. There's also a Kinect set up so you can bowl, or do the other sports games. Pool, shuffleboard, and the Kinect are all free by the way, leaving you to spend more money on booze or the jukebox karaoke on thursday nights read more

It really should be 6 stars, this place is truly 1 in a million. Pros: 1. EPIC BLUE MOON! I have tried downtown and in Hillcrest; No other place has the epic crispness of their Blue Moon beer on tap! 2. Coin Toss Tuesday, I try to come regularly every other Tuesday with friends. I took all my siblings there and they had fun with the coin toss. It adds a little excitement of gambling with no consequence...well if you keep winning you keep drinking...and drinking....and drinking :P 3. Full bar! If they don't know the drink they'll look it up/ask you how to make it. My friends are very picky with the drinks and they all love it. 4. Reasonably priced and very affordable. 5. Lots of TVs, 2 pool tables, shuffleboard 6. Bartenders are young, and awesome, and the service time is FAST even when packed. Cons: The Establishment has no cons, However...... 1. Random nights there are Sobriety check points on Palm near the 5 exit. 2. Sometimes near closing cops will be around the corner watching you stumble drunkenly towards your car, Fair warning to drive safe! read more

Went there tonight with a friend, had a great time and didn't even stay that long! I am very new to the area and got there kinda late but I was welcomed in with open arms! Totally dive bar which is the best kind of bar! Casual and no need to dress to impress, beachy atmosphere. The IB area doesn't have a lot to offer but Salty Frog's for sure blows Scoreboard and other bars out of the water. The bartenders are all chill, the female bartenders are nice and helpful and the one male bartender that was there tonight was sweet and helpful(and cute), anyone know his name? Scruffy guy, super nice lol!!! Drinks were cheap and quick and most of all the glasses were clean!!! If your looking for a good time, stop by. I didn't use it but I guess they have a shuttle that will take the drunks home if they need it. Pretty cool thing to offer, unique! IB place to be = Salty Frogs! read more

the male bartenders are kind and friendly, the females have a bit of an attitude. Its a bar girls smile, giggle work the bar thats how you make money honey. you missed out on many tips from me I am a good tipper. The bar is a dive, same faces all the time and everyone is friendly. if you call in advance they will pick you up in the frog van!! on the weekend but call ahead and tip the driver!! Hey, when it comes to Imperial Beach, CA, you don't have many options in... many things, however, for some reason, this town is a breeding ground for dive bars and shady spots. THATS not a bad thing! Unless you're a graduate from Mar Vista High School and looking to escape any memory of your past - then, of course, its an awful truth to know that all the bars of Imperial Beach are second homes to 53% of Mar Vista Gradates and 47% of their teachers. I am not judging, on yelp (irony), I hardly frequent the local bars of my home town, but I wish I did. Too often are they small quiet gathering spots to meet your friends and have a laugh. Salty Frog is not the epitome of dives in IB, but in terms of being available, it's there. GOOD: A pleasant variety of beers that you can purchase in pitcher form. From urine colored mega-brews to slightly darker colored smaller-batched brews - like Kona Fire Rock. BAD: A trough in the men's bathroom makes me feel like the days I partied out in Tijuana. Long nights and weekends spent at Porky's flashed back every time I had to excuse myself to the bathroom. Bittersweet memories of old times. OVERALL: cant go wrong when looking for a dive. The Salty Frog does not disappoint. read more

Nice dive bar, service varies for each bartender. Karaoke is below par, but the live music events can be nice, or just a ruckus. The doorman/security is great, and another positive is that there are two other bars just across the street. Worth a check out, consider arriving early if you have a group larger than four. read more

We have free pool, free shuffleboard, 10 high def t.v.s, live music(Friday and Sat) with no cover, Karaoke Thursdays, and young bartenders. We also have the best Tuesday night around. Like, when I go to a popular bar, I don't care about the popularity or the vibes. If the food doesn't meet my higher standards, it can't get five stars. Even when I gave Brigantine five stars, I love their mixed drinks and a lot of their seafood. I'd have no issues with writing another five star review of the food at the Brigantine. Those lobster quesadillas are immaculate. This place on the other hand...... Okay no, that makes it sound bad. It's definitely not bad. The mango habanero wings here had a nice crisp and flavor. The pizza definitely had a cheap crust and cheap ingredients, but the final product still had a decent flavor. Like, it's not going to win any awards, but it'll still taste like heaven when you're consuming alcohol. This is one of the most popular bars in the area. I've floated or driven past it quite a few times already since I currently live in IB, and I've never seen it not slammed. I finally decided to walk in here at like 1400, and the bar was still packed. However, the clientele is mostly locals. And the bar and clientele is of a variety that will affect your mileage. Specifically, there is a ton of active duty or retired U.S. Navy, there is Navy memorabilia all over the walls, and it probably leans conservative pretty hard. So you might feel like an outsider unless you fit one of those categories. That might've been me if I wasn't also in the Navy. Lol The dude on my right immediately told me that the owner is retired Navy. And the somewhat drunk dude on my left started chatting also. And I somehow almost immediately participated in getting an orange Jaeger bomb (which I suggested since the orange Jaeger was directly in my line of sight.) Uuuhh, all that just to say, I mostly use Yelp to look for amazing food. If you're just looking for Michelin star food, I don't think there's anything particularly ground-breaking here. However, the locals do claim that this is one of the most popular bars in San Diego. There are reasons for that, whatever those reasons are, because it definitely doesn't have anything to do with the Yelp average.

So, my first visit was a cool experience with a few laid back people watching the game. After I left, I decided I would come back again to watch a game sometime. Currently, I visited this place again a few Thursday's ago(I think it was Thanksgiving, lol) to pregame it before I headed to Diamond Jim's. Why? Because Diamond Jim's only accepts cash only and the CV Sports Bar is just a few blocks down and they do take cards. A $10 dollar minimum is not bad at all because I've been to other places where you have to have a $20 minimum. I ordered a pitcher of Fat Tire for $12, which I didn't mind paying at all because its a well reasonable price for the size of their pitcher. The two guy bartenders were OK. They just seamed they didn't give a shit about their customers. I don't expect them to go beyond customer service expectation but show some character and be more helpful, especially if its a small bar with less than twenty people. Surprisingly, there was quit a few good looking girls but most of them had company already. But, its nice to know there's pretty girls that go there, Right? No guy wants a sausage fest. It's a chill bar to pre-game it or go with a few friends and watch a game. Reading these reviews below mine, I will have to watch my next UFC match at CV Sports Bar to see if its cool.

For me, this is the default spot to watch UFC fights when I don't want to go downtown. In this capacity this place is awesome. There are 4 HD falt screens in the place as well as 2-3 more regular TV's. All those TV's in a really small place means you will always have a spot with a good view of the action. Not a big selection of beers but what they do have is cheap. Service is somewhat lacking but I think its because they aren't used to the big crowds when a fight/event is going on. While food isn't on the menu, they do have a crock pot with melted cheese and chips to make nachos. They have the usual condiments (jalapeno's, onions) and sometimes chili. There is also a popcorn machine that they charge for (they don't charge for the nachos though???). There is a pool table that looks serviceable and a jukebox (they don't allow it during fights). They also have a stereo system that they can turn on if they want. Parking can be a hassle, as there is a really small lot behind the place. If you get there late you may have to park across the street. Credit Cards are accepted but have a $10 minimum in place.

Never coming here again! Bar tenders talk their fucking heads off to themselves even tho they see you at the bar with money in your hand trying to buy a drink. Drinks are just as bad as the service and the bartender chick with the glasses has an attitude that needs to be checked right away (go get laid or something bitch) and the guy with the beard is pushy about buying drinks saying we "can't play pool unless we buy more drinks" go fuck yourself dude you bar sucks and u smell gross. Best bar in IB!! no games!! have free live entertainment every friday and starting saturdays. all the staff if super chill, you never have to wait long for service and on tuesdays you can get a chance to get your drink for a quarter for toss it tuesday. keep it up Salty frog!! read more

The venue itself is on the smaller side, but it has a lot of character. I attended their soft launch, and the staff appeared to be very friendly. They had a live band perform, Alicia the Band, and they were great. They definitely got us all dancing and singing. This place has the potential to become the favorite local dive bar with all the great vibes. Unfortunately, they way tabs were handled put a damper on an otherwise fun night. My husband opened a tab and noticed a $250 charge pending on his card, in addition to the actual amount we spent. At the time, no one explained that this was an authorization hold, so naturally we were concerned. My friend, who was with a separate group, experienced the same thing. His group ordered 12 beers at $9 each (about $108 before tax and tip) and also saw a $250 pending charge. The pending charge remained for several days before it was eventually removed. In our case, the hold dropped off after four days. While I understand this was a soft launch and they are still working out the kinks, the unexpected authorization holds caught us off guard. A little communication upfront would have gone a long way in preventing the confusion. As I mentioned, I really the venue and what they are bringing to the area. They have great drink options, from local breweries to aesthetic cocktails, and they even allow you to bring in your own food, which is a great touch. The atmosphere, music and overall vibe were all great. Now that the authorization hold has been removed, I am relieved it wasn't an actual charge. My hope is that they either adjust how their payment system handles tabs or simply let customers know ahead of time that a temporary authorization hold may appear. I really would love to see this business succeed and look forward to coming back.

We didn't realize the sausage party already included pretzel bites so we had double the amount of pretzels, our server failed to mention this to us. The food was unfortunately extra greasy, we felt so sick with all the grease that we couldn't finish it. The "pretzel" bites tasted like slices bread soaked in oil. The sausages were also all covered in oil. I would not have paid regular price for this food. Aside from that, staff was super nice. I just think they could improve on the amount of oil they use in their food!
