The worst of the night was when I looked at my receipt and saw I didn't have the correct change, I was told by the waitress they don't give coin change back and was told in training to round up. This past weekend my wife and I went to the Applebee's in Clark, NJ. We loved the specials they were offering! Unfortunately, my wife's steak was filled with gristle which is not something that anyone can control, but the manager took very good care of our concerns. My steak, by the way, was wonderful and cooked to order. Besides that, our server was fantastic. His name was Victor and he went above and beyond in the service department. I should know, as I taught classes for fine dining service in NYC. He enjoyed his job, and did everything he could to make his customers feel welcome and at home. My family and I went in yesterday some time after 5 for a quick bite after being out all day with our babies. We came in with our double stroller, the front and back kind. The manager Candy gave us a huge deal about not knowing where to seat us because of the stroller as if the place was PACKED. There was an entire side by the bar that was empty, so I politely asked her if we could be seated there and she just kept on making excuse after excuse. She kept looking around to see where she could seat us as if there weren't any spots available. Kept on making the stroller a big deal. Had we left the stroller in our a car and used a high chair plus the car seat carrier (because we have a 19 month old and 6month old) it would have taken up the same amount of space, if not, MORE. My brother at this point was getting a bit frustrated and mentioned to her that we've eaten at many restaurants with the stroller and we've never been in this type of embarrassing situation and she rudely replied by saying "I'm not asking you if you've ever eaten anywhere with the stroller, sir" - at this point I was like wtf! Anyway, after her making it a huge deal, she sat us down exactly where I told her we would fit comfortably and in no one's way - by the bar where it was EMPTY! The entire experience was just so rude and disgusting. Made my husband and I feel like we were being condemned for bringing our children with us to dinner. Ariana, our server was delightful! Food was good! Bartender next to us was great and so was Becky! Everyone who passed by our table had wonderful comments to say about our children and our son had them all in great spirits with his silly ways. Shame on you, Candy. Vegetables under-cooked and hard. Burger was under-cooked. Everything was super salty. service is good wait time is unnecessarily long. It just opened up, but as a chain restaurant I would expect that they have enough support to properly open a store and not have these kind of operational issue. Typical chain restaurant, with not much to offer. Thought the outside dining area looked nice but the service was poor and no hostess to guide us. It's well designed but not executed correctly. They need more staff training, which is surprising. I thought chains have implemented training courses. I would assume the staff turn over ratio is high but a lot of rookies working, which is fine as long as someone is present to guide them. Food was ok. Like all Applebee's its good for apps and happy hour beer prices. I was hoping for a little bit more from this place vs other Applebee's, being in Clark and the well designed restaurant. I hate doing this being the time we are in. I can be tolerant for a lot of things during this pandemic, but the service today at this Applebee's was a disaster, and that's being kind. I wasn't even served. I sat as a solo customer, outside, around 12:30 today. I was greeted with no host. I walked into the outside bar area and asked if I could sit at any open table. I was asked how many was in the party and i said just me. An eye roll followed and "just sit, someone will get you a menu." I'm sorry, is it illegal to go to a place for lunch by yourself? Before anyone jumps on me, I get it, one person at a table for four, while most restaurants are closed, limited seating, I get it. not ideal. I answer you with there were 6 empty tables for service. I also work in the industry, I have bartended for 12 years, thus went with the intention of taking care of my server, well. More than a party of four would have tipped. I sat for 16 minutes, without being greeted, spoken to, or acknowledged. NOT ONE SERVER had the thought to come by and say, "be with you in a second." At the very least. At a time when places are struggling, and patrons want to go out, I'd think you'd try to take care of people as best you can. This wasn't the case. It's really a shame. It's a chain restaurant that not only doesn't care I didn't get served at all, won't care that I left and am writing this review. There's a reason you folks have a two star review. I hate doing this, but don't want people to waste time going to a place that apparently doesn't care if you aren't a big party that can rack up a big check, without knowing how much you might take care of a worker who has been struggling for the past 3 months. Have a sign out front that says you don't want a solo person showing up. Again, as someone who is a career bartender, going through the same situation the last three months you are, I would have thought I'd at least get a greeting by a server, bartender, host, or even a bus boy. Terrible! I walk in and and didn't feel welcomed here at all. I asked roughly how long the wait would be and the two hosts pretty much gave me an attitude and rolled their eyes as they responded with a sarcastic answer. I tried to explain that I was asking because I still have to wait for friends to show up and so I don't know If i should reserve a booth now or not and so I can alert my friends but before I can do so, again I get an attitude . I'm a Clark resident but I'm just going to take my business to Linden Applebees instead as this one sucks! The server was very forgetful which I didnt mind because I assume she's new to the job but those nasty hosts definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. I eat here fairly often and the service really leaves a lot to be desired. I am not at all a big fan of those devices they put at your table for you to order and pay your bill. It's almost as if your waiter intentionally ignores you and is programmed to force you to use this device. The value for the price is reasonable but the poor service and having to ask over and over again for someone to wait on you is pretty frustrating. Tonight, I had to ask another staff member to find our waiter and the place was fairly dead on the inside. We had no napkins, no water (despite asking for it) and I finally paid my bill on the damn device so I could get out of there. If almost feels like you should go to the kitchen and grab your own food, napkins, water and bring your check to the counter to pay. Why am I paying a tip for service like that?? read more

I wouldn't know much about how the food and drinks are. We sat at the bar for 15 minutes while the two people behind the bar ignored us completely. The one girl spent almost the entire time talking to her friends who were there at the bar just drinking water and hanging out while she worked. The bar wasn't even close to packed and she certain wasn't busy working. It's definitely the worst service I've experienced at an Applebee's. This is my second time visiting this particular location. We went once when it first opened and didn't have a good experience but chalked it up to being new. So today we decided to give it another try. Not much different. The hostess that greeted us at the door never cracked a smile and nearly knocked my daughter over as she gathered our menus. We definitely didn't feel welcomed. I felt a little better when our waitress arrived all smiles and pleasant as could be. She was the best part of our experience. The kids food came out but we waited at least another 20 minutes before our adult entrees came out. Food was average. As we left the same miserable hostess that greeted us watched us leave and never said one word. From my other Applebee's experiences they thank you for coming and even at times have opened the door for you. Not here. Don't waste your time. Go to Chilis down the street. It went from a place we stopped by weekly to eat to now being the kind of place you are groaning on the way home from after dinner. What a shame! Oh, also teachers beware, the regular discount they give military/veterans is not something they feel is a priority for teachers despite the ads online (check you local Applebee's carefully). My first time ever at the Applebee's in Clark. The decor was really nice but, the service was past horrible. We received our drinks within a reasonable amount of time. Then had to wait for appetizers 45 minutes or more,then it was cold. The server returned the appetizer to the kitchen and brought the appetizer back hot but, soaked in grease and hard. Waited another 45 minutes or more for the soup, no crackers It took 30 minutes to get crackers. The entrees came an hour later, one was fine but, my dish was cold. When asked what was the problem? This new Applebee's location is a huge hit! The aesthetics of the architecture and landscape is modern and sleek! The outdoor seating area is so beautiful that is a huge draw to just dine at this restaurant. Like the outside the inside is popping! Your eyes upon entry is hit with bold colors, sleek modern designs and edges. The wide screen televisions throughout were a great touch and thoughtful; as it allows for those not wanting to seat in the bar area or having to seat outside the bar area a great addition. The customer service Is top notch! Hooray for Service as this Applebee's shows all other restaurants how it is done! We were greeted by several huge smiles and eager to please individuals. Our waitress, Maria, was Great! As she was attentive and provided quality service throughout our visit with a smile. Our food was hot and the new double crunch spicy sweet Asian chile wings were delicious! I wanted more. The full flavor bold taste of the spicy sweet Asian chile sauce on the perfectly fried juicy chicken wing was a great choice. Especially, since my previous order at a Long Island Applebee's on the same day, proved to be disappointing after their two attempts to get it correct. The Sriracha Shrimp at this new Clark location, on the other hand was a fail after two attempts, hence the deduction of a star. The previously visited Applebee's on the same day in Long Island I previously reference cooked these items to perfection. Therefore, I knew how they should look and taste. The Clark Location's Sriracha Shrimp was over cooked and greasy during both attempts. Therefore, the Sriiracha sauce soaked through and the ability to taste the sauce was not apparent due the grease. The Sriracha Shrimp is one of the best additions to the Applebee's menu and is a must taste if the location perfects the manner they should be cooked and presented. Additionally, as spectacular as the service was and apologetic as the waitress may have been; the manager failed to visit our table to extend his apologies. However, he did visit the table that was two tables away. The deduct for this alone I started to deduct another star. However, the service provided by the rest of the staff was so impressive, I could not bear to do it. Several individuals came to our table to ask if items could be cleared away....GREAT JOB! I hate sitting with dirty dishes throughout the time I dine! I wish all restaurants did such a good job as the Clark Applebee's. This level of attentive service is typically seen at five star with four or more courses type restaurant. We went to Applebee's in Clark the server Amanda was great, what a personality, the hostess Maeve also was a sweetheart. The food was perfect, I had a big problem with the bar. My beer took a little to long, I know it wasn't Amanda's Fault as I saw Waitresses waiting for drinks. I do believe the bartenders, Both were Catering to the people at the bar, I quess they get more tips that way, the waitresses only get there tips from the table, guess I gotta sit at the bar to get bar service faster. Can't give out zero stars, so I had to give it one. Can't believe this place. I asked for a side salad instead of my two sides. Now granted a side salad is $1.29! All I wanted is no sides and a salad instead. Well the manager came over and said that can't do that. Unbelievable!!! So, I said, hold the sides and charge me the $1.29. Can't believe that just lost two customers from ever coming back into this place. Not to mention when all my friends ask me about this place and I tell them I won't step another foot in there. TERRIBLE AS USUAL...We keep going back as there is very few choices in the Ellenton/Parrish area. The biggest complaint is the terrible wait staff. Hostess's do not smile, act as if they are doing you a favor by seating you. Once seated, waiter/waitress take your drink order at their convenience. Once the food order is placed and the food arrives..IT IS AUCTION TIME...who gets the burger...who gets the chicken, etc. They never come back for refills of drinks and it takes 10 to 15 minutes to find the waiter to get the check (he is serving tables on the other side of the restaurant!
