Look, Applebee's is Applebee's. You don't go to an Applebee's for fine dining or even the greatest burger you ever hoped to have. But, what you can count on, is a consistently decent meal. I haven't lived in GC for well over 25 years but my mom and dad patronize Applebee's somewhat regularly and when I've been home to visit I've gone with them a few times. The place is always clean and the staff always friendly so check, check on bare minimum on my standards scale. Food-wise I actually really like the French onion soup and the burgers I've had are actually on the better than good side. This last time I ordered the cajun mushroom Swiss and it was very tasty! This was an absolutely terrible experience. The ball was dropped in all areas. Salads came out before our drinks were even made (incorrectly) . Had to have the drinks remade ( the drinks AND shots were made incorrectly ) . Then the server I believe Sophia was her name told us the kitchen put the wrong items on the steak . Better than I expected. They have a selection of items that could be vegan/vegetarian friendly. I ordered the Tex-Mex Shrimp Bowl and it was delicious. Apparently FORGOT to take a picture before stuffing it in mah face! The service was not the best, but not the worst. Had to chase the waitress down a couple of times to get what we needed. Traveling through Missouri we stoped for the night and decided on Applebees. It has been some time since I last ate at the chain. I had 1/2 slab of ribs, my wife ordered chicken alfredo. Our meals came my ribs came out it was more like 1/3 rack. Or a half baby calf. When I asked about the Cole slaw my waitress informed me the 1/2 rack no longer comes with Cole slaw, She informed me I could purchase a side. I declined. My wife's chicken alfredo came without the bread stick and the waitress told my wife she was waiting on the breadstick. It never came. My wife said hers alfredo was good. My ribs were tough and unappetizing. I left about half of it behind along with the soggy fries. If this restaurant is indicative of what Applebees has become. There done. I know I am. read more

Applebee's in one of those restaurants you either love it or you hate it. In my case I can take it or leave it. It's a decent place depending on what you're ordering, depending on the time of day you're going and depending on who your particular server is. There drinks selection is pretty good but the quantity of alcohol that they put in each drini it is pretty low. If I am paying 8 or 9 bucks for a mixed drink Long Island Tea I want it strong. The food is usually delicious and I've seen a couple of videos where there were some bad things on food handling and that leaves a sour taste in ones mind. Waited at the door for 5 mins to be seated, waited at the table for 10 mins and no one took our drink order or food order all the while the manager was chit chatting to the table behind us instead of supervising her crew!! This is essentially bar food with somewhat decent prices. Most of the time the waitress are friendly and constantly check on my group. Every once in awhile the waitress will disappear and not check in. The drinks are also decent priced and usually have a low amount of liquor in them. read more

I ordered 2 of the new steak and shrimp special. When my son picked up ordered he was not told they were out of shrimp until he looked in bag before he left. He then asked what was going on. The employee then said oh I forgot to tell you we were out. Then was offered a 1 dollar refund! Then got home to find out my order was incomplete..my potatoes were missing. He left immediately to go back and get rest of order and was given back the other 1 dollar refund for the 2nd order of no shrimp. My steak and his were very well done. We asked for medium! I've waited tables over the years at several places, so I understand the nature of the beast. I make many exceptions, but this Applebee's is one of the worst places in terms of service and food. My boyfriend and I came in for a late dinner, and I sensed that our server, Melissa, wasn't too happy with our late entrance. I get it. However, actually getting the stink eye before we sat down to our booth when our eyes met briefly wasn't expected. From there on, we didn't get any silverware after our appetizers arrived. I thought no big deal, I'll find some, and the lovely bartender did just that. When our food arrived, it was barely warm. My boyfriend ordered the brisket tacos and I had some tomato soup, which was also lukewarm. I told Melissa politely, and she took our food. When our food got back, while my tomato soup was hot, the tacos were pretty much rendered awful when they'd been microwaved by the cook (see photo). It was a hot mess and that's exactly what it looked like when we received them back. My croutons in my soup were soggy from the reheating, but I was ok with the flavor. It was good. Let me say while Melissa wasn't ever overtly, verbally rude, she was inadvertently in that she never checked on us. Not once. Not to ask how things were, not to ask if we need refills or anything, and she'd walked past our table many times to serve other tables. Not until I had to go up to the bar and find her to get a box to go did we have any exchange of words. It wasn't until after we got the check did she ask how everything was. There was a brief exchange about the tacos, and she apologized, but there was no offer to make the situation better or take it off the check. Here's the thing: I get busy nights. I get how exhausting waiting tables is. I know cooks do shitty things and it's not the servers fault. This was both the cooks fault and the servers. The cook's fault for serving lukewarm food and then sticking food in the microwave. Some food you can do that with. Tacos can't be nuked and then served to the public. They should be remade and served hot. Yep, it was lousy with a capital L. I don't like complaining, but I also don't take blatantly lousy service lying down. We won't be back. read more

Our spin dip appetizer took about 20 minutes and came out cold. The ceaser salad came out with little to no dressing. After our appetizer, we noticed two people who came here probably 20 mintues after us, enjoying their meals while we're once again, waiting. Thank God the actual meal was good. The Granite City Applebee's is located on Nameoki Road just in front of the Shop N Save. As Applebee's go the Granite City location is your typical restaurant. Tonight I had the wood grilled chicken breast with garlic green beans and a house salad with ranch dressing. The chicken seemed to be a little bland. It tasted as though it could have used some type of seasoning. The green beans were good and the salad was also good. The server seemed to be trying, but wasn't very attentIve. I don't eat here often due to Applebee's not being one of my top restaurant choices, but the assistant manager is always moving around the dinning area checking on how everyone is doing. read more

I think this is for the Granite City, IL location as that would be the only Applebee's I frequent on a weekly basis. Lunch options in the GRC are relatively limited unless its fast food. I don't do fast food so Applebee's is one of the few dining options. I get a free lunch every week or so compliments of my mom so can't complain too much right? Applebee's is what it is. It's a dining chain that carries the same menu across the board - same environment/design/etc. They have recently updated their menu, which is always nice to see. They do have a healthy option menu too, which is a plus but very little that caters to the strictly vegan/vegetarian diet. One recent addition I will rave about.....the pub pretzel appetizers. These are simply amazing and must. They come with a dish of melted gooey beer cheese as well as honey mustard dipping sauce. I don't know what kind of magic happens to make these so spectacular, but they are phenomenal. This particular location is OK. Service is hit and miss but usually not completely terrible. Some of the servers are frighteningly happy and excited to see you. We usually go during lunch so service is not really a problem and generally fast. Tables are clean and food is usually cooked to our liking although last week it got cold very fast....primarily due to the A/C being on overdrive. I am grateful we have a place to go so I can have lunch with my mom each week, but as I said....Applebee's is what it is. read more

This review is solely based on call ahead to-go ordering. The food was hot and ready when we arrived to pick it up, no waiting around. The to-go staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, and processed our payment quickly and seamlessly. This is all based on a night when the snow storm hit Granite City. When asked how I feel about the Granite Applebee's my answer will almost always be "it's ok." Trust me, things can go a lot worse than they do at any given visit to this place. It's almost always clean. It's not unreasonably priced. There's usually not a crazy wait time. If you've ever been to an Applebee's before, you know the food you're getting. This place will have no surprises for you, but unless you go in expecting a top-flight restaurant, it won't disappoint either. Sometimes you don't need a 5-star steakhouse, sometimes you want a burger on a Tuesday night. This is a good place for such an ocassion. read more

The restaurant was not busy at all yet it took approximately 10 minutes for the waitress to arrive to get our drink orders. Drinks were delivered and food came out in good time. And that was the last time the waitress came to our table. She never checked to see if our food was ok, or if we needed refills on the food or drinks. We had to flag down the hostess to ask for more food. She sent the waitress over who very hurriedly asked if we needed refills and took off without finding out what exactly we needed. We give two Stars on this restaurant because our service was less than fantastic. Our appetizer of French Onion Soup was like warm at best. When the main course arrived. The Bourbon street chicken was very crispy and tar like. My husband did not even have a refreshed drink from the time we sat down until -almost the end of the main course. Mt wife and I came in on a Tuesday with our 4 year old. Kids are supposed to eat free on Tuesday from 3-9 and, despite it being after 3pm, they charged us for her meal. I ordered a medium rare steak and it was medium at best when I got it, which isn't a huge deal for me, but the steak was very tough and chewy. It's Applebee's. You know what you're getting for the most part. We haven't been to an Applebee's in years, but we are out of towners and we couldn't find anything around our hotel that sounded remotely "safe." We knew Applebee's would have something for everyone. This place seemed busy. We were seating rather quickly, but we just received awkward service from start to finish. We had multiple servers come up to us and try to take our order. When we ordered appetizers, they gave us our appetizer but they didn't give us plates to distribute the appetizer. Our party's entrees were brought out at different times. We didn't seem to get a lot of food for our money. No bang for our buck. Our appetizer portion was insanely small. One member of the party had a burger and fries but only got a handful of fries piled next to his burger. We were celebrating a birthday and even when we mentioned it, our server did nothing for us. Disappointing but not a total deal breaker. Nothing left us overly excited. All in all just an okay trip. It doesn't make me want to seek out an Applebee's back home that's for sure. read more

Me and some family members went here after checking their hours online (open until 1:00am). We just wanted a few drinks so we got there around 11:30. She tells us that the bartender is doing the last call so we get one more drink. Through the night another employee (a manager i think) keeps making comments. He awkwardly stares as he's walking by and makes light conversation. He then interrupts our waitress to tell us the kitchen is closing after we already told our waitress that we were not ordering food. He then tells us at 12:06 that they're technically closed. This is when my sister tells him that we saw on google they were open until 1. He then goes on about how google is wrong and we need to not trust google and how even though google said it doesn't mean it's true, just a whole bunch of unnecessary bs. If that weren't enough, he then sat a booth behind us listening to fighting videos and using derogatory language. I felt uncomfortable and as if I could not even take my concerns to anyone, for him being the manager, he would be the one we needed to speak to. I don't know why Applebee's has this misogynistic, rude man as a manager. read more
