We didn't get waited on for at least 15 minutes after we were seated and appetizers took 1 hour to come out. Out drinks sat empty often and out food came out separate and when I finally got my cheeseburger it was cold and had been sitting for a bit. It was still $50 and a horrible first experience. Stopped in around 12:15 on black Friday. The place was empty except for 2 other people.Iced tea was out, the dish I ordered was out, the bathroom trash hadn't been emptied since Wednesday night. Haven't been here in a long time. Last time I was there, great food and fantastic service. Stopped in on a Thursday around 1130. There was literally no one else there. Ok....husband and I ordered lunch, a sandwich and some pasta. I would say it was average. We were there for an hour and not another person came in. As we were waiting for our food, started to notice the place wasn't in real good shape and the furniture was pretty worn out. I think this has just turned into a nightclub/ bar and not the best place for lunch during the day. My "Q" review. Quintessential is a keeper. We had a party of 6 and 6 people are harder to please, but Q earned rave reviews on the food from everyone. Prices were fairly reasonable, you can spend a lot or a little. Our friend ordered the 14 oz strip... and at $40, you have to hope it's good. It did not disappoint and was cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the Quintessential Chicken with risotto and it was phenomenal and moderately priced at $19, but some entrees were even as inexpensive as $11... so something for every price point. Went on Mother's Day. This was the worst buffet brunch ever. They did not have what was shown on the buffet list. They did not keep it full. You had to ask them to fill up the food trays multiple times and it wasn't because they were busy. The food was not good. Eggs looked like egg whites not scrambled, bacon was so salty you could hardly eat it. Had to ask for refills on the drinks. They were not busy like the other restaurants and now I know why. Desserts (plural)was only one dessert and there were 3 pieces had to ask when it was gone. Come on people step up the quality and food. Very disappointed and won't be back. read more

Great spot for drinks and food on Main in St Charles. They've been around for many years and they seem to keep things fresh and interesting by updating the menu and adding new amenities. The upstairs bar area is pretty unique as a open rooftop bar and dance floor in the area. Downstairs you can sit at the bar or at the tables and get dinner ranging from bar food burgers and such to more upscale choices. read more

Although we have passed this restaurant many times, we tried it this past Friday. We loved it. One dish in particular blew us away. Their short ribs nachos are outstanding. Management must not be competent enough to record and keep track of reservations that are accepted and confirmed. As others have previously stated, we too made a reservation in person, witnessed it written in a reservation book only to have them say they were unable to find our reservation when we arrived. We try to be patient and considerate of businesses struggling to find wait staff or having trouble providing certain dishes due to supply chain issues. In these times, this is understandable. Quintessential, or "Q" as I've heard some locals call it, was the last stop on our bar hopping around Main St. My girl friends and I arrived after 11pm on a Saturday night. There was no line to get in, and we were subject to paying a $5 cover. My friends and I were only at Quintessential for 30 minutes. The short experience I had there was enough to leave me with a positive impression. I liked that the place had a good mix of all ages, but oh, to feel like I'm in my 20s again. This place would've been my spot. There were two levels to the establishment. The guests on the lower level looked more like people our age (30+), and the guests on the upper level looked more like the college crowd. I liked that the upper level was outdoor and had lots of open space. The only downside was that it was in the middle of July during a heat wave, so the heat and humidity was a bit uncomfortable. There were fans blasting around though, so there was some relief. There were two different DJs on each level, and I thought they both played good, danceable music. There was one main bar on the lower level, and there were two bars on the upper level. I did find that the bars on the upper level were less busy than the one below. read more

It took about 20 minutes for me to get a drink due to how crowded it was. That night, to me, was so crowded, that the vibe just wasn't there. I believe that in situations like this, there should be a capacity limit. Aside from that, the music can be good, depending on whoever is the DJ for the night, and the drinks are pretty good as well. I was hime from Palm Springs, CA for my mother's funeral. My dear friend made reservations, in person, for dinner and music. We were going to listen to an old high school friend play Music on Main. We got to Quintessential and our seats we reserved had been given away. There were no other "prime" seats available and the manager was hardt sincere in her apology. The wanted to seat on the floor behind the bar without any view of the band or outside. This was not the first time my friend had reservations that somehow disappeared. How can a restaurant continue in this challenging time to stay afloat with such disregard for reservations and customer satisfaction? This would never happen in Palm Springs. If a reservation is lost they would do everything to accommodate us. Go out of their way to make sure we were happy. Quintessential lost a very loyal customer last night with a very large family who ate there regularly. Good News: we tried another restaurant and had top notch service and delicious food. This place has outstanding food and service. Absolutely love finding places to try on historic main street St. Charles. So many great looking choices on the menu, so it was hard to decide but we went with Chicken Picatta and Creole Tortalini. Both were excellent! This chicken was cooked perfectly. It has a slightly crisp exterior, with a juicy flavorful center. The Creole Tortalini had andouli sausage, steak tips, peppers and onions with an outstanding red sauce. The steak was fork tender and made for a fabulous dish. Overall environment is also a win. Casual comfortable dining area with an acoustic musician playing in the back. *TERRIBLE SERVICE *WORST BIRTHDAY BRUNCH I had high hopes for this restaurant! I made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for a large party of 22 and had to add 5 the day of for brunch. When I walked in no one acknowledged me after standing there for 3 minutes, so I asked the bartender was there any one to assist me. She just pointed me to my reserved area... The issue was there was only 3 ppl working plus a manager. It took an hour just to get drinks, another hour to order food, another hour to received the food. Then they ran out of some food items so ppl didn't eat. My bill was about $900 with a gratuity of $130... I paid it bc I didn't want to cause a scene on my birthday. Note, the menu had changed 2 weeks ago and was not updated on the website. Didn't get anything I wanted.
