First time at an Applebees to be honest and had extremely low expectations to be honest. I didn't eat the food, but read the reviews and was shocked. I just sat at the bar to kill time . The service was better than I would have expected, very attentive and on top of things . Would have given a five star except I didn't eat any food and I don't like being called boss man , probably a generational or area term . Other than that professional and attention to detail! We arrived and should have taken heed of other patrons telling us to find somewhere else. We waited over 45 minutes for a drink to arrive to the table, and they got that wrong. The waitress kept coming over and asking if everything was okay while we sat there with nothing on the table. The waitress had no knowledge of the menu at all. After 1 1/2 hours and no food they brought out a dinner plate with dried up food that had obviously been under a heat lamp for a long time, and they brought my husband something he did not order. They earned this one and I want others to at least be wary of this place. It was better than eating snacks in our room (in guess...). Food (2/5): The star of this meal was the appetizer- wonton chicken tacos (fried wontons with diced chicken and slaw). We should have stopped there. Bourbon shrimp and chicken was barely edible. Slimy, (drowning in oil) and overcooked. The only saving Grace was the mashed potatoes. They were out of the drink I wanted so the waitress recommend a sangria. It literally tasted like she opened a can of fruit cocktail in syrup and dumped some cheap wine in top. Barely drinkable. Service (3/5): The waited was nice enough but definitely overworked. She dropped by our table twice during the whole meal. Atmosphere (2/5): This placed was packed for Covid time. There was a poor man standing in the lobby there entire time trying to get his takeout order, which I assumed was messed up since he kept returning to the restaurant. We ordered the two for 25 dollar special. Appetizer and two entrees. The only entrees that did not cost extra where the garlic toped 6 oz sirloin with two sides. So we ordered two side salads and two 6 oz sirloins, and were told the total was 41.00 dollars! My husband reminded them of the special, and all he was told was that these steaks where under a different category. ?? The manager (knocked off 10 dollars, which still put it at 31 dollars. I have been here several timEs and usually don't hAve this good of an experience so I hate to write a review. But today is much better. We were treated at the dOor by the hostess holding it for us. There was a party in front of us, so he sat them first. Then with a pleasant and friendly attitude approached and sat us. Josh came to the table immediately and introduced himself and got our drink order. He has been extremely prompt and attentive. Always, ALWAYS, ask for his section. Josh is 5 stars by hi. The food Came out piping hot. I had blackened salmon. It's frozen and cooked well done. The broccoli still had some "cold spots". The mashed potatoes have been stirred so much they're pasty. This place is awful. I went in Monday June 12th evening to get a beer and to watch the NBA game. I sat 15 mins at the bar before the bartender came over. She had been sitting at a table with another waitress, but I didn't know that was her. I ordered a beer when she finally came over, and ordered chicken wonton tacos. After about 30 minutes, I asked, where were my tacos, and she said she would check. When they arrived the wonton part were burnt and they spelled like it. I told her to take them back. She talked to the manager about it and he walked by and just looked at them. I finally asked to just return and give me a check, and I will pay for my drinks and leave. The people that work there really seem like they could care less. The restrooms are very dirty. read more

Great service from Breanna. Order was promptly taken, she was friendly, and VERY helpful. Our food arrived STEAMING and very fresh. The manager, Albert, was even better. Stopped by the table to make sure all was well, suggested other things in the area, and was just very kind. He stressed that he wanted to be sure that we had an enjoyable meal. Been a few months since we'd been here. Usually we do lunch and it was always good. Today we did supper. We ordered the Bourbon Street Mushroom Swiss Burger. I stuck with the fries, wife wanted onion rings. Burgers were cooked well done to the point they were crunchy. No burnt taste, but by no means juicy. Very few onions or mushrooms. Cheese was fine. Don't be fooled by the picture of the burger on the menu. It's not thick. About like a single patty cheese burger at Hardees. My fries were fine. The onion rings were cooked hard and the dark color makes me think they haven't switched out the oil recently. Staff was fine; courteous and friendly. Decided to finally review after avoiding this particular Applebee's for several years. I usually enjoy an Applebee's but this one has been hardly ever okay. Today is why it'll be another several years before I give it another go. The Good: Food was tasty so hats off to the chefs. The air conditioning worked. The tables were clean. The service was prompt. The Bad: Waiter seemed high or else being overly familiar coupled with 'no problem' nonchalance was his personality. Half serving of fries. One in our party asks after he returns, "Running out of fries?" Server said yes, brings more, but didn't acknowledge the scant servings in the first place. Not even 2pm and two bottles of ketchup only had maybe 4 tablespoons in each. Miscommunication. Waiter explained that tomatoes, lettuce, onion, and pickles were only on request when I asked why the All American Burger was, upon arrival, plain on the bun (no lettuce, tomato, onion, or pickles even on the side). He said the pickle and onions and bacon were cooked in the actual burger. "Pickles are cooked into this burger?" I asked. He said yes and that's why it's called an "All In Burger." (?) I told him I'd ordered the American Burger. He explains that an "All In Burger" was when everything was cooked in; not the name of a burger. I said, "Oh so that's just like a new thing I'd never heard off before?" (As opposed to a different burger I'd not ordered.) He said, "New to you." He emphasized the you, without any sense of jocularity. So yeah THAT was weird and non-professional. Last point on the burger; it looked nothing like the photo. It was a plain patty with cheese, no sauce, and nothing cooked into the patty. Moving on: Bathrooms had human waste (clogged up or not flushed or both) in 2 of the 3 toilets, with the third having urine and pubic hair on the seat. PS. Recently tried them for the first time in years now I remember why. Ordered French onion soup it was served with the cheese and crouton laying beside the soup hard and inedible. soup was barely cooked tasted like dirty dish water. Also ordered chicken quesadillas they were hard as a rock toppings in the whole order were not enough for one slice. Called and complained was assured my card would be credited never happened very bad attitude on phone. Stay away don't even risk it. The cook that made that and put it out for human consumption should have been fired that day. If I could give zero stars I would much better places to eat without the attitude and lying. Well first of all, the server had on a modified uniform, and it seems all the servers did. The manager was at the front but stayed on his phone. When we were sat, we did not get silverware, until the food came out. We ordered the 2 for $25 which includes an appetizer or salads, we chose the appetizer, as well as brought two salads, they came out wrong as well as the entrees came out way before the salad and the appetizers, and the person that brought them out had their thumb in my salad wether by accident or on purpose. I never write reviews for chains, but this place is so bad that I have to our of principle. Unfortunately there are very limited options in town so we were forced to give it a try. Fail. Put in our drink orders...they don't know have several of their "featured drinks" on the menu. Strike 1. Okay, fine, let's place our orders. As we order, they start telling us what they don't have as we try to order them. Our first order starts with the all you can eat ribs (which is on a separate, "promo" menu included with all of our book of menus). Turns out, they no longer offer AYCE ribs. We ask why they included that specific menu, and she just shrugged. Strike 2. Next guy orders a side salad. We're informed that they're out of lettuce. Yes my friends...out.of.lettuce. Thanks for the heads up prior to anyone ordering. Strike 3. Next up, mushrooms with the steak. Nope, out of mushrooms, too. Strike 4. Granted, I'm no big fan of this chain to begin with, but I expect at least a shred of consistency. This place was a disgrace. read more

One thing about this particular restaurant, it is consistent. Consistently terrible. Whether it's the food, service, or often both...it has been bad for the five years we've lived here. A couple of times a year, I will try Applebees just to see if it has improved. Sometimes we get a gift certificate that we feel obligated to use or something. There is usually something wrong with our order, or it takes 30 minutes plus to come out of the kitchen, or the server has been poorly trained. I visited several Hartsville restaurants over the holidays, and my meal at Applebee's was by far the worst dining experience in town. Our server was friendly and as helpful as possible, but the food took FOREVER and 4 out of 4 meals had problems: (1) chicken fiesta salad with no guacamole...we were told, "They have it, but it's frozen" - there is so much wrong with that sentence. (2) overcooked chicken fingers - this is a staple for Applebee's, guys... (3) overcooked steak - we sent this back and they replaced it after a 30 minute wait...then they sent it back on the same dirty plate without even refreshing the sides. (4) overcooked hamburger and luke warm fries The manager came over twice and was not interested in hearing about the problems. It took two complaints to get him to remove one of the meals from the bill. Then he blamed the problems on the crowded night and said they were understaffed. The thing is that Applebee's has potential in Hartsville - they have a unique niche and people want to eat there. The menu sounds good, and I'm sure that those in the kitchen have the potential to cook the food for the right amounts of time. Just need to work on paying attention to the details and being open to customer feedback. read more

I don't usually write about chains, but this is a special case. This is likely the worst Applebee's in existence and it has been that way for as long as I have lived in the area (6+ years). The food is always sub-par (how do you even mess up frozen meals?!) and the service mediocre. Waiting for what seems like an eternity for some chips and dip or a refill on a drink when the place is only half way full is the norm. I only take someone here if they specifically request it and invariably they comment on how horrible it is. Just revalidated this today. read more
