Got the fried catfish meal to-go. Catfish was good. Fries were old and had hard ends, and very dark (old oil?). Also feel I should have gotten more fries? I ordered to-go at 8pm, hope they weren't sitting there from lunch time. I asked for extra lemons and they looked like the ones in the picture but in a plastic container on the side. I have stopped at CB many times over the years. The food is always a 3 at best. The other night I web at with a friend and had their new menu which included new, different dinner entrees. I had a steak and broccoli with a salad. It was a 10 oz NY strip. My expectations were not high to be honest. The steak was delicious, cooked medium rare, and tender, the salad was excellent, and the broccoli was cooked just right (not soggy). Our server was also very nice and waited on us immediately. She brought (without asking) pepper sauce for the collard greens we had. The restaurant itself was a Cracker Barrel; but clean and interesting. Breakfast this morning and it was very good. Diane took good care of us though we didn't see her for quite some time after our meals arrived. A manager was doing coffee patrol so that all worked out fine. My wife chose the French toast breakfast, no eggs or meat. She really enjoyed the fried apples with it and it was helpful to have two bottles of syrup. "Breakfast Benny" for me, a base of one of Cracker Barrel's excellent biscuits split in half topped with a slice of Impossible Sausage (50 cent upcharge), a basted egg and then hollandaise sauce. Presented nicely with a portion of hashbrown casserole. Delicious breakfast and we enjoyed ourselves. Especially so since we had spent the night in the parking lot with the Sprinter van. A lady in the retail side gave a warm welcome upon our entrance. the hostess sat us down and it was very smoky. I asked the wait if we could move and she asked the male manager )and explained why). He didn't hesitate to accommodate us with a table that would probably be better. he mentioned that he had just added logs to the fireplace, but he also turned on the fans to help. He said it should be"die down" in a few minutes. The waitress said it's always smoky like that. By moving to another table, our waitress said she forgot about us, so there were things we didn't get or we had to ask someone else for. I've never been to a Cracker Barrel that was smoky like this. Probably some of the worst food I've ever eaten...ordered the chicken fried chicken with fries, fried apple slices, and corn. First, they forgot the apple slices, so I paid for a 3rd side I didn't get. The chicken was dry, and the sauce was gloopy and cold. The steak fries where also cold and dry. This location is nice and the food was very delicious but the service I received there was less than I expected, my boyfriend and I went around 7, no where close to closing time, but the waitress we had seemed to be in a rush. We were the only people in her section and We could hear her begging her boss to allow her to go home early due to a slow day and that she just wanted to go home but she was scheduled to stay, and was telling the hostess to not seat anyone else in her section so her boss could see it empty and let her leave. my boyfriend and I were having great conversation over our meal but the demeanor of the waitress made us feel unwelcome, while chatting, she stood at the kitchen door and watched us eat and I was still visibly eating my food and she asked me for a box, i felt rushed. After finishing our meals we were going to order dessert but she brought us our check before prompted and never asked us for any dessert. I can't say we were loitering around, we were only there for probably 20 minutes until we felt uncomfortable and just left. I'd eat here again , and it was just a one time thing and i understand the demand of a hospitality career, I just feel some conversations should be private and visitors should feel welcome. read more

Taking my son from Fort Jackson to Fort Lee and stopped at the always reliable Cracker Barrel! Our wait time was minimal allowing us to stretch from travel and use the facilities. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. I ordered the lunch meatloaf with mashed potatoes and okra plus the beans and greens with cornbread. I must admit the beans and greens were so good with the cornbread I only had a bite or two of the meatloaf - however my son was happy to finish it off for me! The okra was pale and mushy - not crispy, but perhaps I should have asked for it to be crispy. Although I cannot remember what my son ordered, he said the biscuits were melt in your mouth delicious - and he ate every one of them! I was in the restaurant after Christmas, it was very busy, but the manager on duty I do believe her name was April Smith, walked over to each of us even the ones that were waiting and assured us that we would be getting a seat in a timely matter. The ordering system so sort of confusing but I made it through the maze, and the pick up a bit confusing. The saving grace to all this was made by one man, Reggie. Pick up orders were behind but he keep it run and with so much care and grace that it made you look forward to seeing him bring out orders, even though it wasn't yours. The blonde waitress with a long ponytail ignored my three old and husband after she stated that she would be right with us. She was too busy chatting with her friends and eating food at another table. When I approached her if she would take our order, she stated that she wasn't our waitress.... Excellent experience. Upon arrival I saw that the parking lot was full so I was concerned about the wait time. I was seated in less than 10 minutes, and greeted by my server, Samantha, in less than 2 minutes. By the time she returned with my drink I was ready to order. My meal quickly arrived and was delicious. The turkey itself was good, but the seasoning in the breading and the gravy is what really made. The biscuits were fresh and hot. Everything was excellent. Samantha keep by drink full without me having to ask and even provided a drink to go before I asked. Samantha did all this while respecting my pace. At no point did I feel rushed. I witnessed some cohesive teamwork between the wait staff and the busser. The bussers, the unsung heroes so to speak, were quick to clear, clean, and reset the table. The manger was very present. Went for a late lunch early dinner at the Florence Cracker Barrel. When I walked in a lady (whom I would assume was the Manager) put my name on the list and told me it would be five minutes. There were pleanty of staff, plenty open seats but they (for what ever reason) were not seating people. Ironically, most of the wait-staff were standing around chatting with each other and not helping anyone. After a 20 minute wait I just gave up. Out of town and looking for a good stand-by for lunch. Cracker Barrel is generally a good bet, and this one was packed when we Initially drove by, so after an hour or so of looking about Florence, we went for lunch. Our server was amazing but the kitchen was on a break I suppose. I had catfish with coleslaw and pinto beans. My wife ordered chicken and dumplings with spiced apples. My meal was good; it came out at appropriate temperature, but the pintos were a little dry. Her meal? Cold, thick on dumplings with little chicken - although what she had of the chicken she lauded as "very tender". Of course, we asked for a re-heat, but I'm sure most would agree that is an appetite spoiler. Long story short...despite our server's excellent attention to us and our love for Southern Cooking, I think we will probably look elsewhere next time. PS. Florence SC location. 1.30 pm on a Thursday. Not busy. Waited 10 minutes to be seated despite a manager chatting nearby and kept looking over at us. Very nice waitress promptly came over and took our drink order. Asked if we would like biscuits. When they arrived, I noticed right away that they were not much bigger than a 50-cent coin. They were dry and very crunchy. Not at all like the soft fluffy biscuits Cracker Barrel was famous for. We noticed the drastically reduced number of menu choices, with many of the long time classics no longer available. My table mate ordered the chicken fried chicken with FF & mac n cheese. It also came with a serving of white gravy. I ordered the tips, tenders and shrimp. Along with FF & slaw. Didn't take long for the food to arrive. Neither plate looked very appealing. My food was practically cold and my friend's just barely warm. His white gravy was more of a solid cold lump. I noticed the fries were battered, something new which the menu neglected to mention. The beef tips were over cooked and very dry. Perhaps due to the garlic butter sauce being left off for some reason. The chicken tenders were tiny, mostly breading, very greasy and looked as though they had been cooked in old oil. The shrimp were fine despite being cold. I used to love Cracker Barrel's cole slaw. However, I think the recipe has changed as this was not the rich creamy slaw I was familiar with. My friend ate one of the two pieces of chicken fried chicken stating it was a bit dry. He enjoyed his Mac n cheese and fries. Our drinks were replenished often, and plenty of extra napkins were provided by our waitress. She was a little taken aback that we declined a to go box for our leftovers. All in all I would say the service is reasonably good. The food on the other hand was sorely lacking in flavor and appeal. Stopped here for breakfast while passing through. I've seen plenty of Cracker Barrels but never been in one. I've been missing out. We had a great breakfast here and the place was bustling. Service was good, the coffee was hot, and eggs and hash browns were served up plentiful and delicious. I'm not a biscuit eater, but my friend had some and said they were good. We were there before Christmas, and the gift shop in the entry way was full of pretty things to tempt you to buy more than breakfast. Our food was actually gross ... my husband's pancakes had been cooked on the griddle after beef (hamburger flavored pancakes anyone?) and the bacon came out basically raw. We asked for it to be cooked a little more and it came back after we had finished the rest of our food and it tasted so awful I spit it out. Stopped in for a quick bite to eat while traveling North. Fairly easy access off the frontage road when you get off I-95. Considering it was a bit after noon, parking was easy to find. Christmas smells greeted us at the door! We were quickly seated and before we barely had a chance to even get seated our server Jean popped up to take drink orders. I could rave on and on about the phenomenal Jean but I'll get on with the review. I ordered the lunch special - Meatloaf. It did take a bit longer than anticipated to arrive at the table however Jean was on it. When it arrived, she had gone above and beyond and had the kitchen add another lunch portion onto my plate due to the extended wait (without me ever even saying a word another wait). Always consistent, you know what to expect, familiar surroundings and good, old fashioned country home cooking. Our server, Monique, at this roadside CB, was as attentive as ever. We didn't have to ask for a thing; she brought extra napkins, honey, butter, jam, lemon, several bottles of their REAL syrup and every other item you could think of! My eggs came out perfect, which is quite a feat, as I'm a picker orderer! Our cups were always filled and our breakfast came out fast so we were back on the road in no time. I will say on occasion you get a decent (not exceptional) experience at this Cracker Barrel. More often than not, the tables aren't well wiped and the chairs rarely are. If there is a problem with your food, the kitchen will only fix the part that was wrong. Ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on toast with egg hard fried. Egg was actually cooked sunny side up. When it went back to kitchen, what came back out was the same top toast, same bacon, same cheese (all cold) a new egg and a piece of bread (not toasted) on bottom of sandwich. There was still runny yolk on the plate they sent back out. When I looked at my bill, they had charged me for a southern half and half tea instead of the unsweetened I ordered. This means they charge you more for half sweet/half unsweetened than they charge for soda. When I asked waitress about it she said that's just how much tea is, when I asked her to ring up another tea so I could show her that was wrong, she said I am not going to wait on you anymore because you are rude and she walked away. I stopped in here on 12-20-2021 late on my way down south. It was at the exit where I lodged for the evening. I ordered a lemonade, country fried steak without the gravy, fries and whole kernel corn with corn muffins. I'm not a gravy person, in public, because I always think that the restaurant is trying to cover something up. LOL. The meal was "just okay" which is a surprise because normally my CB meals are good to great. The steak was a bit dry and crunchy. The fries were a bit old and crunchy. The corn was not in a bowl but on my plate, which meant that the juice was running and touching my other food!! YIKES!! The lemonade was very good.
