My wife and I stopped there for lunch, the server was an idiot (Mercedes) she took. Our drink order then vanished another girl came with our drinks the 3 minutes later our waitress shows up with the drinks, my wife orders an appitizer pretzels with BEER Sauce, what we got was pretzels with honey mustard, my wife told her she wanted the beer batter sauce, she brought it when we were done with the pretzels, she takes our order my wife wanted a steak dip meal I wanted a Americana berger, the waitress starts talking to the people behind us about family stuff instead of taking out order in whe she finally took it in we find out the steak. Rude. Unhelpful staff. Stopped in this evening for a late dinner. There were plenty of open tables and about 7 people ahead of us. After waiting 4 minutes for someone to acknowledge everyone's presence in the doorway, we walked around the bar to ask one of the two bartenders where the hostess was and she didn't know just wait at the door. I am not the biggest Applebees fans. I don't mind the South Hill branch, hey are friendly enough but are pretty slow. The manager always comes around and checks on you. The focal decor is nice. Very disappointing. Staff were very friendly. Beyond that it's hard to find positives. I couldn't find any good choices that would be vegetarian, whole foods or low fat / low salt. I selected a Thai salad but they were out of the Thai peanut dressing. When that bombed I looked for any vegetable based dish. They didn't have any other than the house salad. I asked what was on it and was told salad, cucumbers, croutons and bacon. Based on that description I ordered it but asked to skip the bacon and croutons. When it arrived it was completely covered in bright orange cheese. I moved the cheese aside and ate the somewhat wilted salad. I decided to order the salmon with streamed potatoes and steamed greens, thinking that was as close to healthful as I could find on the menu. While I waited I looked up the nutrition information on the website and was surprised by how much salt (over 1,700 mg) and fat it contained. When it arrived the greens were the worst looking dried out things I have seen delivered in a restaurant. The steamed potatoes tasted very fishy and were rubbery. The salmon tasted Ok but the artichoke topping on it seemed unappetizing, fat infused and unhealthy. I've eaten at Applebee's in the past but with this visit want to remember not to repeat again. It's was a bad experience. The only hesitancy I have in the 1 star is all the staff from hostess to waitress were really nice. read more

I came with my hubby tonight to relax have a drink and eat. My choice Bloodymary, hubbies Bloodymary with beer chaser! Waitress said she could not bring the beer until the first drink was finished! The Applebee's here in South Hill is a terrible place to go sit and eat. My husband and I have resorted to take out. The staff, with the exception of a few, are not friendly, slow and they could never get the order right. We have been known to sit for 10 minutes waiting for the waitress to bring back our card after paying our bill. Unfortunately, even with takeout they have been known to get the order wrong, or incomplete. However when they do get your order right the food can be good. read more

If I could give this place a negative 5 star I would. The service was horrible. We had Jordan as a server and she was rude, slow, and inefficient. She failed to bring one of our orders and could not answer a single question about the menu. Her response for everything was "I don't know" what the hell?! If you don't know, be honest, go ask and let us know. Not to mention that she slammed the door of the kitchen out of frustration when we decided to get up from the table to pay the check with someone at the bar. She was one of the worst servers I've had. Someone needs to take her to to get a career assessment because she is clearly in the wrong field. I've tried this Applebee's probably five times and it's been consistent. Horrible every time. Cold food, then microwaved, empty drinks, untrained staff and on at least a couple of occasions poor hygiene and awful appearance of wait staff. Ie; filthy shirts and trousers that don't fit, visible chest tattoos etc etc. do your self a favor and just don't go. Maybe they'll get the picture and clean house. read more

First things first - They have a clown on duty on Sunday nights. That's right, a CLOWN. Wally the Wacky Waiter performs on Sunday nights, going around the restaurant telling jokes, doing magic tricks, and making balloon animals. I don't care for it, so now I don't go there on Sunday nights. The food is as to be expected. Good enough, but hardly great. The service will vary depending on how busy they are, but it's generally acceptable. Mostly high school to college age young adults, and you usually don't see the same face any more than two or three times before they're gone. If not for the clown, I'd go three stars. read more

This place is not where you want to go if you are hungry and want a positive experience. We jumped off the road and since Applebee's has a generally open menu (you can get burgers or salads) we decided to stop here. It's a Sunday and the place was not busy or packed. We requested a booth since my mom has back issues and we were immediately told we would have a longer wait. That was no problem at all until we saw a group of young teens get IMMEDIATE service after we had been waiting 15 minutes for someone to come by the table and even acknowledge us. The young hostess brought over the general manager Joe Sabuca once we complained and this gentleman had the nastiest attitude. He seemed like he really didn't want to be bothered by us and didn't even acknowledge that we had been waiting. He even starts to argue with my mother about how he treats "his people". Absolutely worst Applebee's I have been to. 1 star is way to high of a rating. My family came in on a Friday night at 5:30 took 2 hours yes 2 hours to even get our meal and it not even good. The server got in a fight with the customers next to us because they waited 30 min and no one helped them. Then the manager was down right Rude to them and us when we ask what was taking so long. Consider, very seriously, dining elsewhere. We arrived at this Applebees's close to 10:30 p.m. on a Saturday. This was our first choice at such a late hour because after six hours on the road and six more to go, my husband wanted to sit down for a meal. The hostess said 'hello' and walked us to a dirty booth. I said it was dirty and she walked us to another booth that was clearly just as dirty, littered with leftover morsels from folks' plates. When I said this is dirty too, she attempted to seat us right by the front door and I didn't want the chilly breeze. So, I opted to sit at the bar. All she said, non-chalantly, was 'okay.' And, the floor all around the bar table was dirty, scattered with bent staws and food and who knows what else. It was disgusting. We really enjoy the variety and quality of the food here. We've eaten here over 200 times over the years and it is consistently good. The service people are upbeat and really care about your dining experience. They check back with you after serving your food to ensure things are to your liking. I love the menu as I don't always know what I'm in the mood for and the options always offer something for me and hubby. They seem to have specials also such as 1/2 price appetizers and bar drinks at certain hours during the week. We enjoy our greeting from Towanda who welcomes and seat us, the helpful staff who will make recommendations and ensures we are satisfied and often receive a hello and thank you from the manager Joe. Definitely feeling at home in the neighborhood at Applebees. read more

We stopped for lunch today, and were greeted warmly at the front door and promptly seated. Service by Devin was good--she checked back several times to see how we were doing. I had one of the best burgers I've ever gotten at any Applebee's and Devin also fixed us "to go" ice teas and sodas for the road. Would definitely stop there again. read more

Just had dinner here. We almost didn't stop based on recent negative reviews but are traveling and didn't want to have fast food. Service by Simone was EXCELLENT! Food was delicious. The food was as mediocre as any Applebee's. The server was nice however when my baby knocked over a full beverage while the server was standing there, she said she'd get napkins then never came back. When I flagged her to bring some, I cleaned the mess and she left the pile of wet napkins and a dish rag on the table for our entire meal. Then I had to ask her for another beverage. I hadn't taken a single sip and there was none left in the glass - she asks "oh you want another one?" She was extremely polite but that was ridiculous. read more

This restaurant is pretty nice. I like that it supports all the schools in the Mecklenburg county on its walls. Whenever I have went, my food is hot and overall tasty. The drinks are pretty good, sometimes they put too much alcohol in the fruity drinks; but usually are good. The bathrooms have been clean when I am there. Service could be a bit better, but they do check on you. Wait time for tables is a bit tiring. Many people like to eat here. read more

This was the first time we have eaten at this Applebee's location in South Hill VA even though we live near by. Possibly the worst, unbelievable lame experience that we have EVER had in any sit down establishment. We arrived at 7:45pm on a Friday night to meet up with my girl's coworkers from town to have a few drinks and a relaxing dinner, a rarity for us so even more disappointing after what transpired. The other 3 people in our party had been there since 6pm and ordered drinks and one ordered dinner at that time and were just getting served her food when we got at 7:45! I understand that Friday nights are busy but all the tables in this small version of Applebee's were not even full so 1:45 is ridiculous to only be served 2 drinks in that time. The server while nice was obviously new and couldn't even tell us what liquors are in Applebee's "Long Island" ice tea mix which basically tasted like it had NO liquor in it all. The Koolaid we make at home is stronger that this! We ordered at 8pm an order of 4 cheese macaroni with chicken strips. Server came back 40 minutes later and said it's ready but didn't bring it to the table? The person who ordered at 6pm ate her food and then had to leave at about 9pm at which point our food still wasn't there and for some reason gave us our tab? I advised her that we had 1 drink each but that I couldn't understand why we were being given our check when we had never even gotten our food. The other people there who had ordered and not gotten any food told the server they were no longer hungry and wanted a refund and would just pay for their drinks. The manager came over and offered free desserts to those 2 people and I asked if we were getting free dessert as well since we also didn't get served any food and were COMPLETELY and UTTERLY ignored like we were straight up invisible. I left cash for our drinks and walked out and went across the road and had a really good Hawaiian pizza from Lucas within 12 minutes. They should really just burn this Applebee's for the insurance because talking to other people and reading reviews it seems this place is run down, dirty and the management could give a flying "F" about it. Do NOT go here, go to Luca's or Brian's or The Hungry Farmer or Rising Smoke BBQ or hell even Taco Bell/KFC. WEAK! read more

The food and the service at this particular Applebee's was less than stellar by many many points. The waitstaff did make an effort to be helpful but by and large failed. I was not impressed by the gentleman who was the Manager on Duty either. I had heard good reports regarding a female Manager but did not see her while I was there. Though I admittedly do not frequent Applebee's as I am not a large fan of chain restaurants I seriously doubt I shall be coming to this one again nor do I feel that anyone else who expects any sort of customer service should do so either. read more
