Took my 3 busy grandchildren there and the Ipad on the table was a distraction. I took it away from them quickly. When I received a copy of my bill on line, there was a 99 cent charge on the IPad. Young children should NOT be able to charge games to the table without adult consent. I sent an email to the address on the bill and was told to email the Applebees in Midland. I had the generic "we'll get to you as soon as we can" response and heard nothing back. It's not the money, it's the idea. How many unintended 99 cent charges is Applebees receiving? Our second visit since the renovation and sadly still very disappointing. We started by ordering a Sam Adams Lager which we told the staff was actually Cherry Wheat! We were told we must be mistaken as they did not sell Cherry Wheat. After insisting they check the barrel..they acknowledged that it was indeed Cherry Wheat. My coffee cup was half refilled and I was told more coffee would take 10 minutes...why even bother to give a customer a half cup of old coffee? We ordered the chili lime shrimp and a shrimp and spinach salad. After 30 minutes it arrived but the shrimp and vege's were cold and had to be sent back. Another 15 minute wait...and still no food. We decided to get the check and leave just as the Manager appeared all too late with our food. there were apologies and our one beer and coffee comped..but we will not be going back. read more

My sister, one of our friends, and myself all decided we would try Applebee's in Midland because usually it is always a safe choice. It was around 6PM so we only had a 15 minute wait which was not really bad. I honestly feel that because Applebee's has been around for so long and pretty much has become a permanent fixture in small town America that has given them reason to get cocky and just totally relax when it comes to their food. Our waitress brought my sister the wrong cocktail but seemed very apologetic, and that is ok I guess, but it really is not that hard to actually listen to what your customers are ordering....hey and you can even write it down if you do not trust yourself or your memory right? My sister and I decided to get the pick 2 for $20 and I ordered the Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp, which for the record looked amazing on the menu. When our food came a really creepy waiter says "WHO ORDERED THE BEST DISH IN THE HOUSE?" I raised my hand to let the server who kept staring at me the entire time we were at Applebee's hands me the plate and states "You should have ordered the Red Skin Mashed Potatoes" I had no idea that was even an option, guess our server totally forgot. So I looked down at the plate, actually a very dirty greasy cast ironed skillet with the smallest thinnest piece of chicken and the smallest shrimp I had ever seen. The cut up potatoes were actually very dry and looked like they were cooked probably 2 hours before we arrived....the entire plate was covered in grease and I was only able to take 2 bites of chicken, one shrimp and one potato before I decided it was not worth the grease that was going to be coating my stomach. Our server came up and asked if I wanted a box and I responded that I would never take this home with me...she did not seemed phased. What I found very funny is the other server claimed it was the "BEST MEAL IN THE HOUSE" I guess he has never eaten anywhere besides that greasy establishment. Six hours after eating my meal, I became violently ill, I truly feel I had food poisoning but never bothered to contact Applebee's, because I know the only thing the Manager would do is offer me a free meal at his establishment and I value my health more than a free greasy dinner. I would not recommend this dish to anyone. I do not want to say that everything Applebee's serves is bad, but I was very surprised on the quality of their Best Dish. read more

For a long time, Applebees was among my top 3 restaurants in Midland, MI. Then the taste of garlic became too strong in all their dishes, and we stopped going there. This Saturday, we decided to try it again only to have a very unfortunate experience. Our food came completely cold. As they took my husband's steak to reheat, it went from medium rare to well done, which he hates. I had asked my baby ribs without sauce, not expecting them to come dry, cold and hard. Totally overdone. The salad had more bacon bits than salad itself, and the strawberry lemonade had so much syrup I couldn't bear to drink it. Great service, short wait time even on busy Saturday night. Waitress was amazing, manager accommodating and nice. Food came out cold like it was in the fridge, should have been hot. The replacement came out, noticed hair in the food. I couldn't even attempt to eat at this point. Manager took it off the bill. While my family is finishing their food, 3 tables around us were also Sending there cold pasta back, another had a very fatty steak and the third had uncooked chicken steps. I wish them luck. Don't go if you are a vegetarian and plan on having a good meal, or to have the people understand that you don't eat meat. Everything has meat in it, even the cheese quesadilla has bacon, you have to say no bacon, there are some pasta dishes that you can take the chicken off of, but the wait staff looks at you like you are insane or something. A couple of times they would just say that they dont know if they could have that happen then walk off when done. Also all the soups that they have have chicken stock just to warn you. The cheese sticks are alright there not bad, the only good thing there is the deserts thats pretty much it. read more

Should have listened to the other reviews. The Applebee's near my home are pretty good but this location is HORRIBLE. Server was pleasant and did a good job. My onion soup was room temperature. My medium rare steak came out nearly raw. Raw, cold red center. The cut of meat was terrible as well. The shrimp that came with the steak were completely buried under a pile of mashed potatoes. Not only can the cook NOT cook but he can't properly plate the meal. Heard 2 other tables complain about how bad their meals were cooked. One server said "yeah, this cook SUCKS!" They went on to say he's always been bad and does not care. That table got their entire meal comped by the manager. I will never go to this location again. read more

Service is always great, but the food is horrible. I can always tell it is microwaved - your WHOLE plate should NOT be warm when you receive your food - and it is very dry. The fries are bland, pasta is dry, meat is dry, and it always is a little hard, like it was sitting for a while before brought out. This Applebee's is the mid-way point for my friend of 46 years and I to see each other and have lunch. My husband and I arrived first at 11:45. Our server Amanda stopped for a drink order and asked if we were in a hurry. I said no, we had all day. My friend arrived and she ordered her drink. My husband returned from the restroom. Amanda immediately was at the table wanting to take our order. Neither my husband or my friend had even looked at it yet. Amanda now has a bad attitude, gave us the kiss of death look and went away. The store was not busy. I've been a server for over 35 years, we weren't going along with her timeline so therefore she was going to ignore us. When we said we were ready to order "when she was," she ignored us and went and stood by the bar. Really??? Servers when a guest are ALWAYS good for at least a 25% tip. Well not today for Amanda. She didn't refill any drinks, inquire if our food was to our liking, nothing. Only returned to bring us our bill and the to go boxes we requested. Amanda isn't a young inexperienced server, easily old enough to retire. She should as her customer service skills are seriously lacking. We have eaten here before, and food was pretty good. Today I ordered the usual item I order, Zesty Roma Chicken and Shrimp. When the food arrived, it was unedible. The cook had taken unseasoned tomato sauce and slathered it over the chicken and shrimp. The dish had absolutely no flavor, and literally made me nauseated. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Food isn't that good anymore and they keep changing their menu. Service is just ok but the wait time for the food is always looooong. Even very simple Mac n cheese dishes took close to 45 minutes and drinks take close to 10. Most of the time their not even busy. I used to go here every night almost for dinner and drinks. Saying sorry for the mistake. Not her fault. But then service was slow. Then after placing order. 20 minutes go by and they said oh by the way. Out of French onion soup. No biggie ok. Then got two of three meals. Waiting for bowl of chili. Finally waitress comes. Asked about spinach dip and chili. Chili came. Still no dip. After meal was gone our appetizer finally came.
