Mixed experience during my last visit. I ordered my steak medium-rare, but it came out clearly rare and undercooked for my liking. That said, the service helped save the meal our servers were fantastic, incredibly friendly, and super attentive throughout the night. No, we are open. The answer given begrudgingly was like we are open but the expression is why are you here we trying to close early. Finally, I found a place that is still open even though it is Applebee's. Hey, the very last option is Waffle House and getting my food through a bullet resistant window. I mean come on you get desperate but not that desperate. So I have not been to an Applebee's in a very long time. I was thinking on a Friday night restaurants should be open until 11/12 PM. Oh I was proven so wrong as my first stop was another casual downing place we will call Silis that rejected me due to it being 1001 so pickings were slim. The last time I did go was because I somehow had a gift card for them. Also it was when they had those $1 drinks. You know it is bad when you sigh as you know what you are about to encounter ranging from customer service, food quality, and cleanliness. Once I was finally noticed at the bar the female came over to ask about a drink. So, I went with a LIT and she handed me a menu that was just wet. I looked over and I still think why did I spend the time on this menu and just went with the riblets to go. The LIT was ok. It was good but did not taste like a LIT. If you want it just for the liquor then you good to go but I do like flavor in my drinks. If someone was to give it to you I am sure you would not guess it was a LIT but it was still pretty ok. Now the secret is to know the bartender. Two of her friends came in and after seeing their drinks made I was like how are they going to drive. Then the drink had a sidecar of tequila to go with the copious amounts of tequila already poured in it. The riblets were ok just like the drink. Good thing is that I was given a good amount and the bbq sauce was a savior. Here is the issue. I get firing up the ribs to get a slight char before serving but the char was very uneven. It was on some of the ribs but not the others. Coleslaw was pretty good and the fries were nothing to write to Yelp about. Still I am here writing about it. What you see and the conversations of the employees here are something to listen to. You have no choice as loud as they are talking. Across from me was a long line of used cocktail glasses that trust me was not just put there. I hear some of the employees talking about how few glasses they have to serve at times and why are there so many cocktail glasses piling up tonight. In my mind the time you spent talking someone could have easily removed them all from the counter. Hey if you got time to lean you got time to clean. Especially behind that bar area. Not a very inviting thing to see especially if it happens to be a customer 's first time in this place. This is one of those situations where I am sure Applebee's knows they are one of the few selections so what's the point of doing better or turning the needle a little bit up on the give a damn meter. read more

The food wasn't that good. My relative's mashed potatoes came out cold and it seems like there was a lack of employees or the lack of employees actually doing their job. The tables weren't wiped down all the way. Also, we asked for their new 4 cheese Mac and cheese with chicken, and we got some abomination, which was basically watery cheese noodles, garlic bread, with nasty chicken on top. The servers were nice, but they seemed really stressed out. The overall setting of the restaurant seemed very messy and chaotic with children screaming and stuff. Came in sat at the bar and ordered 1st issue was only 1 bartender to work the entire bar area on a Saturday @5pm 2nd issue I ordered a drink and it took the only bartender 4-5 minutes to inform me that the establishment have the ingredients, I switched my drink. 3rd issue my chicken tacos took forever to come, and why oh why did I have to ask him for cutlery and napkins. Man, the bar has been set so low since Covid. My boyfriend and I went in around 7 on a Saturday night. We were delighted to see the parking lot kind of empty, but I guess it should have been a warning sign. We got seated on one side of the restaurant, there was one other table but they were about to leave. The waitress walked by us to give the other table their check and completely ignored us. We waited. We waited ten minutes for someone to acknowledge us before we just left. My husband, myself and our little 3year old grandson met my sister from Columbia,S.C. at Applebee's on 2497 Broad St. of Sumter,S.C. and it was a great experience. The food was HOT, FRESH, & DELICIOUS! Our waitress, Logan, was AWESOME! She was professional and very attentive to us and her other customers. We gave her a BIG tip for doing such a good job. We spoke with the manager, Jessica, to inform her of the great service we received from her staff. Jessica was also polite and came by our table to make sure everything was good. My mom loves Applebee's so we stopped in for lunch. My expectations weren't too high but I was pleasantly surprised! We were immediately greeted and seated. It wasn't busy at all. I ordered the appetizer sampler (pick 3 apps). I had a chicken quesadilla, loaded potato soup, and spinach & artichoke dip. My parents chose the 2 for $25 special. This consists of a shareable appetizer and two full sized entrees. They had onion rings. My mom had Bourbon chicken with shrimp and potatoes and my dad had fried shrimp with fries and coleslaw. The food came out promptly. Everything was hot. My mom didn't care for her meal and she said she wouldn't choose get in again. Our waitress was very nice and she came to our table often to check on us. I'm sure I will be back with my mom...but I'm sure she will steer away from the Bourbon chicken and shrimp. read more

This has to be the worst Applebee's that I have ever dined at!!!! I am here in Sumter on a business trip and wanted something a little more healthier to eat. I figured I will go to one of my favorite spots and get one of my favorite salad, Oriental Chicken Salad. I order it to go. I had a long day and wanted to eat at the hotel. So, when I get back to the hotel, I'm getting ready to sit down and eat. I pulled the lid off the salad and could not believe my eyes. There was more chicken than lettuce! I literally search for salad. Usually it's the other way around. I could not believe this! I called and the only thing they could say is "I'm sorry". I have had issues the last couple of times when I have door dashed with them missing parts of the order. Tonight we went and literally were second in line while at least 7 staff stood around. They didn't even talk to the people waiting to be seated. I thought we were on an episode of "punked" it was so bad. Another couple, who had been seated, got up and left, they said they had been waiting over 20 minutes and couldn't even get drinks. We also went as did the people before us and after us. Done with Applebees, I don't even know how they stay open with that group of lazy workers that literally chose to stand around rather than greet or wait on customers. read more

Understanding most restaurants are probably short handed, We visited Applebee's anyway and our suspicions were correct. It took around 50min to get our food along with a little longer then normal to get our bar drinks along with a appetizer. But the drinks was cold!! The food was hot and the dining room staff was extremely pleasant in the face of a lot of not so Pleasant people. We will give these guys a little longer to get things back in order before going back. I would like to add a special thanks to our waiter. Horrifying experience with the manager Melissa today after I had taken my 2 young kids to the restroom all of 2 minutes after the food arrived, they are young and random bathroom stops aren't uncommon, I also left my phone on the table AND told my server that we were using the restroom and would be right back. When I came back the host was cleaning the table when I told her that we were still here and just using the restroom. She makes a comment about how she thought we were gone despite not a single bite taken out of 2 or the 3 plates and a phone still on the table. She walked away and I noticed her wash rag on the table, in my daughter's food draped over her untouched pizza. I let her know the rag was on it and asked for it to be remade, in which she takes the plate of food. I watch her go up to the manager that was also with the bartender, any are sitting around talking and staring me down, no movement to the kitchen to have the pizza remade. I go up to my server to ask if she could go see if the pizza was in or get them to start it. The manager is staring me down at that point so I asked her if the pizza was in yet, at that point she walked up to me with ignorance and disrespect as if I was inconveniencing them and said she was just trying to figure out the problem so I reiterated it and she said yeah I know that now. So at this point I'm frustrated from being stared down for 5 minutes and no effort being done to remake the contaminated food and I ask her to get the pizza going and she told me that it was already, which it took another 10 minutes to get the food and that pizza takes 2 minutes to cook, IF it was already in it would have been coming right out. My server came up completely unaware of the situation so I told her what was going on and the manager did not like that at all. I overhear the bartender telling all the bar customers about customers not always being right so at that point I was fed up and spoke up about how I absolutely was right after a dirty rag was in my daughters food. With her nasty attitude tells me that she's not talking to me and I continue to hear run her mouth to the bar customers. The server told me that the manager wanted us to leave, before my daughter had been able to eat so I asked for a refund on the pizza and was ordered to pay the entire check with no discount. I told her that I wasn't going to pay for something that my daughter can't eat because we were getting kicked out and she told me that she just wanted us to leave so I told her that my daughter would eat than and I'll leave a review, she walked away telling me that she was calling the police on me. Her son is now making comments on Facebook about me drinking and driving, I had a single beer. Which means she isn't even off work yet and calling and telling people bad things. read more

Wish we could give this place 0 stars. We typically are not fans of Applebee's but had a gift card so decided to at least take advantage of the free meal. Even for free food, we almost walked out. I ordered a cocktail; my husband ordered a beer. His draft beer took about 20 minutes and my cocktail took about 40 minutes to arrive at the table. Then my food came out about 50 minutes after ordering. Then my husband's food took about an hour and 15 minutes to arrive at the table after ordering. I was done with my meal before his even arrived. The restaurant was maybe 1/2 full. Our bill came and was incorrect. We asked to speak with the manager and then it took the server over 20 minutes to locate her manager.
