Went for our second visit last night. I was very glad to see that they've improved the acoustics since my last review. It's not as noisy. We were seated by the hostess to a nice booth and our waiter was quick to take our orders. We ordered the Grilled Salmon ($24) with a side of Risotto. Our friend ordered the Grilled salmon with Risotto and also a Edamame/succotash side. The salmon was done perfectly and the risotto also was very good. My wife ordered a side salad and I ordered a side Caesar salad. The salads were cold, crisp and very good, although my wife's balsamic vinegar dressing caught her by surprised by the acidity of the dressing. Excellent meal. Our other friend ordered the Pork Chop, which was huge and quite thick. It had a maple glaze on it. I had a bite of it and it was very good tasting...not quite as tender as I would've liked, but that's sort of typical of most pork chops. We were too full to try any dessert. B Colsons is everything I love in a dining experience. Great steaks, amazing cocktails, it's crowded but sedate. Presentation and plating of food is on point as is the service. You know before you taste the steak it will be seasoned to perfection and it will melt in your mouth. It is amazing to relax and enjoy a perfectly prepared meal . The Ceasar salad comes with a honey butter croissant, that added sweetness to complement the perfect side salad. Now you know why there are lines to get in this place. read more

They sit on a prominent corner of Broad St. in Camden, SC, in a beautiful brick building with a small patio out front. The curb appeal is fantastic, & stepping inside reveals a large, open, upscale space. I was greeted by a friendly hostess who said, "How are y'all doing tonight?" then, "Do y'all have reservations?" I replied, "I'm by myself & no, I don't." (Maybe she thought I had a mouse in my pocket, given all the y'alls.) She said, "Oh, we don't have any tables available, but the bar does." I said, "Well, I guess it's the bar," & she just pointed: "Okay, right over there"--no walk over, no further direction. The bar wraps around a service well--one side faces the kitchen, the other the front. I sat with my back to the kitchen, facing the dining room. There were booths nearby that stayed empty the whole time, but I wasn't told if they were available. A trained hostess would've clarified or offered options. Most guests--especially solo--would've preferred a soft booth over a hard wooden bar chair. Instead, I was dismissed with a vague gesture & left to figure it out. Thankfully, the bartender was great--warm, friendly, efficient. I told her I wasn't drinking, just hungry. She brought unsweet tea & a menu. I ordered a ribeye, medium, with green beans & their house side salad (customized: no onions or tomatoes). The salad was good--spring mix with apple slices & cranberries. Dressing was served on the side; I added it myself at the table. A solid house salad. The soup & salad came out together, delivered by a woman I assume was a manager. She didn't look at me, didn't speak--just loudly chatted with another server as she set both down in front of the barstool to my left. She slid over a fork, knife, & napkin, then walked off mid-conversation. It felt careless, not classy. Small note: they give you one fork, so you're expected to reuse your salad fork for your entrée--not exactly fine dining behavior. The soup? No clue what it was supposed to be. Bartender said it wasn't like steak & ale. It looked like chowder but tasted like pork. It was lukewarm & unevenly heated, like it had been microwaved--hot on one side, cool on the other. The kitchen behind me sounded completely overwhelmed. The chef kept yelling for fried egg rolls. Not once did I hear "heard" or any sign of organized kitchen communication. To my left was a makeshift manager's station--laptop, papers, two managers. One of them, maybe the GM or owner, was loudly chatting with her, dropping the f-bomb repeatedly. I don't know if it was about a guest or employee, but it was inappropriate--especially sitting next to a customer. I looked directly at them to make it clear I could hear everything. Finally, he looked up & asked, "How is everything?" I said, "Well, to be honest, the steak's a little overcooked." He vanished. The manager muttered something to the bartender--"that seems to be happening"--then they both stared at me. The bartender, staying composed, asked, "Can I get you another steak?" I said no--I just needed protein, I was hungry, & I'd eat it. The steak looked nice with butter on top, but it was thin--under 1/2 inch--and way overcooked. It had clearly been under a heat lamp too long. The edges were curled, texture was chewy, & though technically a ribeye, it lacked marbling or flavor. Maybe an ounce of fat on the edge, but not enough to help. The green beans, however, were great--served hot & perfectly cooked with a fresh, crisp bite. As I left, about 10 min before closing, a couple walked in. The hostess looked annoyed, checked her watch, & sighed as she walked past me. Says a lot about front-of-house attitude. It's a stunning space with serious potential--but they've got work to do. The service was chaotic, the kitchen overwhelmed, the steak disappointing. With proper staff training, better communication, & upgraded food sourcing, they could become the refined experience they're clearly trying to be. For now, the looks outshine the substance. read more

Just had the tackiest experience. The food was is normally delicious fare but tonight we experienced a double up charge to our entree that took me a bit by surprise. The entree clearly included two sides that to my restaurant experience means that those sides are included in the price. Not true at B Colsons! Ate outside with our canine companion. Great evening weather for this time of year, though marred by lots of loud motorcycles and pickups. Service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. Extensive whisky list, though would have been more user friendly with prices. My companion had their version of a Paper Plane, which she declared delicious, I had some bourbon. Called multiple times and sent request online to make reservations for party larger than 6 people since 6 is the maximum allowed when making reservations online. NEVER received a call from managemen or staff. When I was able to finally get a person to answer the phone after making more attempts, I was told the reservation request couldn't be booked. I am not upset the reservation couldn't be booked, I am upset about the poor quality of customer service of ignoring the numerous requests I gave to receive a call. There is ONE phone number to make reservations and they're not responding or returning calls to customers. They lost these previous customers, we will not be returning. Maybe they'll make the necessary changes to improve the reservation process. read more

The only negative was that it took about 15-20 min to get any waiter/waitress to stop at table after being seated. I'd say this is Camdens fine dinning. The space is elegant and modern, great for a nice night out. Excellent service. Our waitress was super sweet and genuine. We ordered the sirloin which was cooked as ordered. They had us cut into it on the spot to make sure it was to our liking. Everything came out quickly & menu is reasonably priced. Their house old fashion was perfect. My only suggestion is that their Brussels sprouts be baked crispy instead of boiled. read more

We eat here once or twice a month, the service and food is always outstanding. On this particular visit my wife had the HSG Salad with chicken and I had Southern Fried Seafood (shrimp & flounder) with brussel sprouts. Both were delicious. As usual, our server was attentive and pleasant. read more

This was the third time that my husband and I ate here. First of all the food is absolutely phenomenal. The problem that we had this time was with the drinks. We had not had an issue on our previous two visits so I'm not sure if this was a different bartender or what the problem was. In hindsight, I should've asked for the manager. Our first drinks came which were white Russians and they were full of ice meaning we finished our drink in about five sips. When she asked if we wanted two more I said yes but please go easy on the ice. When she returned our drinks they were barely half full with less ice of course. I felt truly insulted but it was my birthday and I did not want to make a big deal. She asked if I wanted a shot of Kahlúa and a shot of vodka and I said yes so she brought them over and of course we were charged for them. We do love the food there but I don't know that we will be ordering alcoholic beverages the next time we go. read more

We had reservations and were seated within a few minutes after arriving. The server was very friendly and attentive. The food was really good. My wife and I had BColson's chicken and our friends had buffalo chicken sandwich and burger. Everyone enjoyed the food. The atmosphere is casual but sophisticated. We will go back. We tried brunch today for the first time. I ordered the crab eggs Benedict with home fries. WELL, I have never had pouched eggs that were hard boiled, no run at all. There was a super thin silver dollar sized crab cake, I guess, under a mountain of hollandaise sauce. The home fries tasted good, but were cold. My wife loved her crème Beule French toast. She ordered a mimosa, which was $10 and served in a snifter glass??? No champange flutes for a very expensive mimosa??? Unbelievable. The prices are fine restaurant quality, but everything else is not. Small expensive portions, that are very hit or miss for quality. It is very expensive for the portions. I only gave 2 stars, because my wife said her meal was actually pretty good. read more

I hope it was just a bad night. The food was great when they 1st opened. But tonight We ordered dinner. We both got salad. The lettuce was 1/2 brown. You could tell the salad was made ahead of time( which I know restaurants do) but please don't serve brown lettuce. Then main course came. Steak was cooked as ordered but had way too much rosemary & very little salt. I couldn't eat it. Side dish was cooked ahead of time as well. Not fresh. Husband's meal was as ok. The kitchen really disappointed tonight. Hopefully next time will be better. We aren't giving up on them yet. read more

We made our 1st and last trip tonight. I had the NY strip medium rare and twice baked potato. The steak was a bit chewy and seriously lacking in flavor. My wife had the sea bass which was ok but not great. The bottom line is we could have eaten at Sam Kendall's or Steeplechase for less and had better food. The service was very good. No problem there. Finally and most importantly, the noise was horrible. We to really strain to carry on a conversation. I asked if the noise level was like this often. "Always" was the reply from the server. Were we ever to go back I would carry my ear protection I use during target practice. read more

The manager n duty came by to ask us (4) about our experience ; though overall we enjoyed our first time at B. Colson , I wanted to be more thorough and honest in review each item,I tasted. Lamb 10/10 savory tender moist; house salad 9/10-a warm crossiant vs cold would have perfected for Mom and I; Didn't taste snapper-but consumer agrees fish needed more seasoning;virgin daquiri-use to blended 7/10 light refreshing less ice /blended be better ; cheesecake( didn't taste) consumer desired more strawberry topping it had very little on plate; Not pictured Bananas Foster was delicious 8/10; deviled fried eggs ( for me without yolk-don't eat pork) 2/10-consumer was disappointed -lacked flavor-neat concept will have to try it at home; fried Flounder not pictured-light batter 7/10 lacked seasoning( had to get Tabasco) : sea bass-blackened--again lacked seasoning 5/10( guess I was comparing to "Mon Cafe" in Sumter's Sea bass which is scrumptious) was a little undercooked for me ; the garlic mashed potatoes were bomb and the mac and cheese exquisite 10/10-brussel sprout side8/10 ( and I don't usually like Brussels sprouts) I hope this review helps someone, Thank You B. Nice atmosphere. The remodel was well done. I had sirloin steak and Brussels Sprouts and enjoyed them. I was disappointed in the "Bananas Foster" dessert as it was not traditional. No caramelization, no rum flambé and no ice cream. There was a lot of whipped cream, some banana slices and some chocolate sauce. It did have some really good nuts on it though. read more

Friends raved about this place so we gave it a try for a late lunch. It does look a thousand times better than most restaurants in the surrounding 200 miles, but understand the bar isn't set very high out here in the "midlands." Another reviewer said "elegant"...well, that's a big stretch, but it does have modern decor, it's clean, and silverware comes wrapped in fabric napkins. In this neck of the woods, having all three of those features at once is pretty amazing though. Food & drinks: the burger all the way was great! Instead of fries I ordered the calorie-conscious Brussels sprouts....and they were beyond horrible. Was expecting fresh Brussels seasoned & cooked al dente, but got tiny soggy (obviously frozen) mushy icky nasty poor effort flavorless Brussels sprouts. Next: since it was Sunday, instead of a cocktail we got mimosas. They came in a stemless martini glass which is just a weird choice of glassware to serve a mimosa in and that also means they were small. Served lukewarm and I did taste plenty of champagne but didn't see any bubbles - so I am going to assume the bottle had been setting out on the counter for awhile getting warm and going flat before our drinks were made. Less than fair. Service was good but I have a hard time understanding why ketchup & mustard didn't come out with our meals as requested. To be fancy, they serve it up in tiny ramekins where you don't get enough ketchup but you get too much mustard. So we had to wait to ask for it (again) and then wait for the condiments to be served, meanwhile everyone's fries & burgers getting cold. I can only muster up 3 stars mainly for nice surroundings (compared to all the other dives in the area) and mostly decent service. Food & drinks need some serious attention. Imma gonna give it one more try and update after that. read more
