If you're in Tyler and happen to think to yourself, "Hey, lets eat good in the neighborhood and go to Applebee's!", listen to what I am about to tell you: DO NOT GO TO THE TYLER APPLEBEE'S. This place is, quite literally, the worst. If one had to compile a list of the most tragic things that have happened in human history, it would go something like: 1. Holocaust 2. Japanese Tsunami 3. Tyler Applebee's. I'm hesitant to place the Applebee's in Tyler behind those other two catastrophes, but in deference to the amount of life lost I placed it at number three. However, in terms of human suffering involved, I'm sure that the Applebee's in Tyler takes the cake. I've had several bad experiences at this establishment. You know, the standard things you would expect from a generic chain restaurant that serves bland food, offers poor service, and makes you wonder how many ugly waitresses can be hired at one location, but the camel's back was finally broken during my most recent outing. Let me preface this by telling those unfamiliar with this place that Applebee's becomes a popular watering hole on the weekends, due to Tyler's extreme lack of acceptable bars, combined with the relative cheap prices at which Applebee's offers its drinks. So it was on a Friday evening that I, along with a couple of friends, decided to venture into the big city and have ourselves a time. We started by having dinner at Chuy's down the street. The wait time was about 20 minutes (not bad for a Friday night at 8), and was easily passed with a delicious margarita. The food was good and another margarita was ordered, after which we left, making our time spent at Chuy's about an hour. Why is this relevant, you may ask. Well, funny you should bring that up. You see, about 10:20 my comrades and I decided to go to the lovely Applebee's located at 5502 South Broadway. Upon walking in the door we asked for a table of three. Moments later the manager walked up to us and told us, "I've received a report that you three have been drinking at Chuy's for the past 2 1/2 hours. So, I can't serve you alcohol here." Feel free to re-read that, because I'm not pulling your leg. That actually happened. Let me reiterate: We were REFUSED service at Tyler Applebee's by the manager, Mark Lowry, because he had "received a report" that we had been drinking at ANOTHER RESTAURANT prior to coming to his restaurant. I literally thought the guy was pulling some sort of prank. I kept looking around for Ashton Kutcher or some cameras to pop out of the bushes. Mind you, at this point in the evening we had had 3-4 drinks over a several hour period, none of us were drunk or acting rowdy in any way. FURTHERMORE, while we had eaten dinner at Chuy's several hours earlier, we were not there for 2.5 hours, as his secret source supposedly told him. Apparently this clown had a former employee that works at Chuy's and told him that some people had been drinking at Chuy's and had left to go to Applebee's, and Mark, using his impressive deductive reasoning, assumed that it had to be us. I have drank at several places, to be modest, over my lifetime, but have never been refused service by a manager (Mark Lowry) prior to even having a drink at the bar, without exhibiting any type of drunk behavior, and solely on a "tip" received by a third party. Look, I'm a reasonable guy and I know when I am being obnoxious or drunk or whatever, and it certainly doesn't happen after 3 drinks. Had we stumbled in and been loud, I would understand his hesitation to serve us alcohol. That didn't happen. In conclusion, shame on you Mark Lowry. It goes without saying that I will never again darken the door of Tyler Applebee's, and I would encourage you to do the same. It's bad enough that the City of Tyler forces you to go to a restaurant to drink alcohol, rather than buying it at a store and drinking safely at home, but now we find out that there is an informal underground network of restaurant workers keeping tabs on who is drinking at which restaurant and how much. Which would be fine enough, if they were getting it right. Perhaps we were the victims of mistaken identity, or perhaps Mark Lowry is a giant dick and Applebee's is the physical embodiment of the venereal wart that forms at the edge of Satan's anus. I'll go with the latter, but you decide for yourself. This place is so very dirty. The bathroom was sticky and dirty. As I walked back to my table, I passed by the kitchen and couldn't help but notice the nasty floors in there. The carpet throughout was dirty. We had 3 different waiters. The only positive was that the 3 waiters were nice. Nothing against them (except service was a little slow). I ordered a strawberry daiquiri that was way too sweet and no taste of any alcohol. I had to send it back. My food was barely warm. My friend ordered a "loaded" potato soup. They brought her a small baked potato instead. She said it was ok and kept it. Then they charged her an extra dollar for the "loaded" potato, when they were out of bacon. Every time I go to Applebees in my mind i'm going 'dont do it you'll regret it stop stop' ... Applebees is like a drunken one night stand... dont even think about doing it you'll be lucky not to contract a deadly disease afterwards... I'll give you a rundown of some Applebees experiences ... After having a chicken wrap there I spewed so much in the following days I lost ten pounds... Not convinced it was the food from there yet... I'm the customer you want to have because i'm an awesome tipper and I dont do annoying things to my server. They liked me so much at my old Applebees they never charged me for the insane amounts of alcohol I consumed after work there. So its not me. Its them. Its the food. Celebrated my cousin's graduation at the crappiest restaraunt in Tyler, with the crappiest service, and the crappiest food. We had a party of 9, was told it was going to be 20 minutes, even though we beat a good part of the graduation rush, and more than half the tables were empty. That wait turned out to be an hour, the idiot hostesses "mixed up the seating chart" so they sat families that just came in, before they finally made room for us. This was after even calling the name we were asked to put down but then saying it was for a different party. When we finally did get seated, it took forever to place our order with the waitress, our drinks were always empty before she asked to refill. It took an additional hour to get our appetizers and food, most of which was flavorless and bland. It was hard not to laugh in the face of our waitress when she asked "Was the food amazing tonight?" In the words of Inigo Montoya, "You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means" I'm not saying this location is racist, but we did notice that our family of 9-(predominantly Hispanic looking) and other Hispanic families were the ones to wait around while everyone else was served in a prompt manner. As a staple sit down restaurant , Applebee's has been a consistent choice, but tonight was a big mistake. A table for three with our granddaughter, we skipped the appetizers in hopes of getting home earlier, we were starving by the time our arrived. My wife ordered the Salmon dish, my granddaughter her usual chicken strips and fries and me the whiskey bbq burger with mayo on the side. After watching the many tv's and watching a couple of documentaries I was starting to realize just how long we had sat there. Tables around us were getting served, then came my wife's and my plate, several minutes later the chicken strips showed up, but still no mayo. I waited a little while longer and got up to head to the kitchen to get the mayo, got the mayo but now the bottom bun is soggy and now I'm mad. I told the server how unhappy I was, which will usually gets the manager over to apologize but not tonight. Please figure out what's wrong and get it fixed, really like your food when it shows up on time, but the service is horrible. read more

Went Friday night a little late for 1/2 appetizers and drinks with friends. The place was chaos. "Club apple" has been a thing for a while now so why all the employees acted as though this crowd was a new development was a little strange. Our waiter "cracka jack" couldn't remember a single thing we asked him for. We had to get up several times for things we had requested and get them ourselves. Their classic prefect Margarita that usually comes in a shaker we were given in tall beer glasses because they had ran out of martini glasses. Matt who I guess was trying to help or waiter catch up was incredibly rude each time he came to our table. In addition to slow/bad service, lack of glassware, and poor attitudes, they were also out of silverware. Applebees either needs to stop trying to be a late night attraction or staff up and train better. read more

Drove from 15 minutes away to pick up a to-go order. After waiting for ten minutes in the to-go parking with several employees making eye contact with me but not saying anything, I left. I called to ask why they had never brought out my food. The woman said, Oh you have to come inside to get it. The person with whom I ordered on the phone did NOT say that. A car pulled up right after I did and they brought their food out to their car. Very uncool. The only ok was that the supervisor on the phone didn't try and make excuses. She made no attempt to rectify the situation at all, but at least she didn't try and say, "Yeah, well but blah blah blah." That would have made me really mad. What a terrible place to go!! My daughter and I while visiting Tyler, wanted to go someplace safe and dependable to just sit, relax and get a bite. OH NO! This place greeted us with a long wait to be seated (or even noticed). After being seated be prepared to wait at least 15 more minutes to have your beverage order taken. Crowded and busy? Nope, the employees were all just too busy standing in a huddle and talking. Server finally came by with a silly look on his face and asked us if we wanted to EAT. Well, yes we actually thought that we might. I have no words to describe how terrible this food was. Applebee's is a cheap place to get food that isn't very good but this was garbage. Truly beyond description how greasy, cold and disgusting everything was and did I add, incorrect. Bathrooms hadn't been cleaned in....weeks. Oh trash and filth and....disgusting. Noisy? Well yes it was but not the customers, it was the employees. Before leaving we did what is totally unacceptable to us, my daughter is a server in Dallas, we left a $1.00 tip. I come here quite a lot, and I've NEVER had an issue. Service is always great. Food is always cooked perfectly, the bartenders are always friendly, sociable and know how to make great cocktails, and the waiters are always friendly and quick with their service. I always feel welcomed as soon as I walk through the doors. Applebee's will always be my go-to place to eat and have some drinks at the bar! read more

This was not my first time at an Applebee's but it will definitely be my last. To say I was highly disappointed would be an understatement. First of all we stood at the front of the restaurant for at least ten minutes waiting to be seated and no one ever came so we proceeded to seat our selves. After grabbing our own menus and sitting close to the bar area we waited another 5 minutes before we got service, and let me just say there were not many people in the restaurant. Our server was subpar and it seemed like the bartender got amnesia and forgot how to do her job because it took forever to get our drinks and then once we got them what we ordered and what we received were complete opposites. Anyway we drank our drinks regardless and waited for our food. We didn't order anything spectacular or off menu, simple bacon cheeseburger and fries, chicken tenders and chicken with rice. Simple right? You'd think there'd be no way to mess that up but SURPRISE they found a way. The burger had no bacon, the rice was dry and low and behold my chicken tenders HAD A HAIR IN IT! After everything else that has occurred I am furious. I send the tenders back and inform them I do not want anything else because I have lost my appetite, I asked to speak with a manager and goodness gracious I thought they had to go hire one, train her, and then send her to the table because she took FOREVER to come out. WORST SERVICE EVER, I've never felt more looked down upon in my life...the hostess was unorganized and overwhelmed, no one came to help her, when we were seated we were told by our waitress that we would not receive service because we were "under the influence", when clearly the group before us had been smoking marijuana, we spoke with the manager and were told that the server was "crazy" and that we would be served by someone else. We arrive and are told 10 minute wait, after an hour we are seated waitress takes our drink order returns w drinks and we order appetizers, 10 minutes later I order an addional appetizer from the kiosk it arrives in 5 minutes, and we order our meal. 20 minutes later our server brings the initial appetizers. My biggest complaint is the whole 3 hours we were there, the restaurant had from 4 to 8 empty tables and booths while they had groups from 3 to 9 people who would of gladly taken one of those tables. I watched the hostess repeatedly seat people and not mark them off her list adding to the chaos. The food was acceptable but definitely not "AMAZING" as the waitresses kept implying. Me and my fiancé went on 10/17, got there around 7:30pm.. walked in and didn't even get greeted until 5 mins after we walked in the door. Got sat our waitress didn't come to the table till about 10 mins, got our drinks and ordered. waited an HOUR for our appetizer (which had buffalo sauce just thrown on the wings) finally got our food and neither of us had bacon on our burger, my fiancé didn't get cheese so we told the waitress (which wasn't even our server cause we couldn't find her) about the incident and she went and told our server and she brought back COLD CHEESE for his burger.. My ID was denied by a server (the same ID that had been confirmed by a TSA agent for a flight a week previously). After asking for the manager, and showing additional identification confirming I was who I said I was, he simply replied: "we are better than TSA". I worked at Applebee's many years ago and I'm very disappointed with the quality of the food now. I took my mother and son to eat at the tyler location tonight. My mom ordered the nachos, my son ordered the brew pup Philly & I ordered the chicken fajita roll up. First of all, the chicken fajita roll up was one of my all time favorites until now. It used to be melted with lots of chicken, cheesd & pico with a little bit of lettuce. Tonight it was 80% lettuce, the cheese wasn't even melted, hardly any chicken or pico. Very disappointing. The nachos weren't much better. The chips were piled high and there was a small amount of cheese that wasn't even melted all the way. The lettuce was piled on with a few tomatoes and sliced jalapeños. No flavor, no substance. Just a plate of chips and lettuce with barely melted cheese and I paid for that. My son had the best meal but his bread was soggy from all the sauce. He ate the top half and left the soggy bread. Overall, I am very disappointed in our evening. I spent $51.61 on a meal that was barely touched. It was a complete waste and we will not be going back. read more

Do not take large groups to this place as they cannot handle it. The food was most of the food was cold for a group the wrong items and they couldn't even get the drinks right of the salad was wilted I would just say skip on over to another restaurant where you won't have to wait so long for food that wasn't prepared properly. I will say this though this is the first Applebee's that I've had problems with and I've ate at many of them many times. We decided to have dinner at this applebee's tonight 1-18-20. When we came in the guy up front told us a 10 minute wait so we waited. We did get seated pretty fast, but as we were sitting another young waiter came up to us and asked us if we just walked in and seated ourselves. I said no they called my name party of 5 unless theres another party of 5 with a similar name. The waiter goes oh sorry it's just that the guy up front should seat you and my mother says he did. That waiter was rude to assume we would just seat ourselves. Then we sat there for a good 15-20 minutes before we caught a waitress walking by us to ask where our waiter/waitress is because we hadn't gotten any drinks yet. So the waitress did apologize and got our drink order. Then we find out that no food is coming out because the kitchen staff is backed up. We sat there for a total of 45 minutes before we got up and left because no one came to take our order and we never got a straw for my 2 year olds drink. We were seated by another couple who had been there over an hour and never got their food they ordered and never got refills on their drinks. Another table behind us FINALLY got their food and when they did they asked for to go boxes and immediately left cause it took too long. All the employees working there were more worried about serving the people at the bar ordering alcoholic drinks. This place needs faster cooks, more waiters. And better management! We've eaten there before during the day on a weekend and everything was great, but today the whole place sucked! You guys don't want to lose business on a weekend night you better get more cooks and waiters and make sure the cooks can keep up with the hectic pace. read more

Service was ok. Food was ok. The food took a very long time & my rare steak was well done. They did replace the steak, but that also took a very long time. I'm not sure why it takes so long to cook (or not cook) a rare steak. I ordered a 12 oz steak, which was only about 9 oz. The steak was not seasoned very well. My meal alone was $20, and NOT worth what I paid. The girls ordered mini cheeseburgers, and they stated they were dry & they ate very little. The manager made an appearance after I returned the meal, but really didn't seem very concerned. This is my first time to ever return a meal at Applebee's, but it's also my first time at this particular Applebee's. I didn't feel like cooking last night so I decided to go to Applebee's with friends. The service was terrible. It took 25 minutes for us to get our appetizers. It took another 30 minutes to get our meal, and the food was cold. I ordered a side dish of rice and they brought me mac and cheese that looked like it came from a Kraft box. I understand that restaurants can get crowded, but when people go out they expect to have a pleasant experience. With one waiter or waitress serving five tables, the customer is not going to get good service. read more
