I'd been avoiding Applebee's for over a year because I was never happy with the food there, but it was my husband's choice where to eat last night, so we went. I didn't walk in happy, but I left satisfied. We had Boneless Buffalo Wings for an appetizer, and then Double Crisp Shrimp for our entree's. It was surprisingly good. Our server told us that there was a new person in charge of the kitchen that night, and I think they were off to a good start, based on what I was served. I hope they stick around! Service was good. We never had to wait for a long period of time, and we were checked on more than once to see if everything was okay. We didn't have to ask for anything. First, I'd like to address our server (Gaby). Very attentive and helpful with ordering for a bigger group. She was able to multitask, and show up at the perfect time to check on our progress. My husband and I went to this particular Applebee's on a Sunday evening, relatively early (5:30 PM), and we had to wait for a table. Once we were seated, it took over 30 minutes to get a glass of water, another 30 minutes for a server to take our orders, and another 45 minutes to get our salads, which were wrong. We ordered regular house salads and we got caesar salads. We ate them anyway, figuring it would take until Monday morning to switch. Our empty salad plates sat for about another 30 minutes before they were bussed, and our dinners arrived. We didn't have dinner until well after 7 PM, and didn't finish until after 8 PM. At the point where the salads were served, I wanted to just throw down $5 and leave, but my husband said no, let's just see how long it takes. I won't be going back here. I don't know if it's that they are understaffed out front, or if their kitchen is abysmally slow, but we have never had such lackadaisical, careless, snail-like service anywhere, not even in foreign countries. We are both in our 70's, and we feel Applebee's robbed us of hours of what we have left of our lives, it was that bad! read more

Waited ten minutes for a cook to come out the kitchen to seat me , all the waitresses except a Mexican lady where able to help me , she mentioned to a tall white lady that she didn't see me and I clearly heard the tall lady say who cares . Shorter white lady walked right by me after we made eye contact , didn't even bother to seat me . Not even a smile more like an unpleasant reaction towards me . Definitely not coming back . Would give this place 0 stars if available. Went on a Friday night sat at the bar. Steven did not give good service. Wings for appetizer very little sauce, asked for extra sauce which never came. Myself and a couple friends went to Apple Bees for dollaritas and dinner. My boyfriend and I both got the sirloin which was pretty good. Food came to the table pretty fast and our waitress Riley was super friendly and very professional. We ended up changing tables because we ran into a couple friends and wanted to sit together. I generally grade Applebees as mediocre, but this Applebees is much less than subpar of mediocre. Every time Applebees has a menu update, it takes about 6 months for Watsonville to update their menu. And most of the time, even if the restaurant is near empty, you get sat near a screaming baby or a loud table, which just makes for a wonderful experience. Staff barely checks on you and you could probably walk back, pick the lettuce, and tomato and cook the food yourself prior to getting your meal. Cleanliness leaves much to be desired. read more

Manager apologized and gave us the food when it finally came out for free (hence 2 stars instead of 1) . Soooo we decided to make a weekend out of Santa Cruz and decided to go to Applebees. This is by far the worst food and service we have ever gotten from a restaurant, my son ordered a corndog with yogurt and a soda, his mom ordered off the kids menu due to a surgery and ordered grilled chicken and mashed potatoes.....well what she got was a completely burned and blacked chicken that was drier than the Mojave. Horrible, I would have asked a waiter to get a new one but we never saw him after the food was brought out.....I order the breakfast burger and the bun was so burned that I couldn't eat it, way to hard so I took the top off and had to eat it open face style. We got checked in at 5:40p on Thursday eve, three adults and a seven month old. The wait to be seated was minimal, ten minutes tops. Once seated, a good half our wait before our drinks came, an additional 10-15 for the appetizer that was ordered right away upon being seated. Once we ordered our regular dinner items the wait for them was about an hour. And to make things worse, only ONE of those three plates was hot. The other two were cold, not even warm- COLD. A second round of drinks was ordered as we were there to celebrate a birthday. Another half hour wait. As we finished eating, I ordered dessert for the birthday girl- 25 minutes went (I made sure to keep track of time) and nothing. When I asked our waitress about it, she said it was almost ready. So I requested it to go instead. Another 10 minutes wait just to get it to go- that's 35 minutes waiting- I mean, what is so complicated about a triple chocolate meltdown? The place wasn't exactly crowded, but it was clear that very few waitresses/waiters were on site to take care of the customers. I don't blame them, our waitress was sweet, and I learned she was new as well at her job, she was super nice and apologized multiple times for the wait. The issue, I think, is management. A place like this, next to a movie theater is bound to be busy, why not staff it better? Over the years I have stopped visiting it precisely because of the poor quality of service and worse yet, the quality of their food. If I visit, is mostly for a beer, not for food. It was not I who chose to go there tonight so I went along with my brother and his wife to celebrate her. But I can assure you I will think about it very seriously before spending my money there again. I don't normally take to Yelp for a negative opinion, but I had to this time, because this was beyond anything I've experienced before. Cold steak, cold grilled chicken? You guys keep going down the drain. From 5:40p to 8pm- over two hours for something that in years past was served so much sooner and definitely much warmer. Tonight served as a reminder as to why I choose to support my local mom and pop businesses instead. At least they care for a better customer experience. Came into see the new remodel. Service sucked! Tried to sit us next to the bathroom, when there was plenty of good tables by the windows. If there was a rating lower than 1star i would give it. Arrived at 7pm on a Tuesday night and was seated in the bar area where it wasn't busy at all. I ordered boneless wings and some fries at it took thirty minutes to arrive. The wings were cold and no refills for our drinks were ever offered. In fact, after the waitress took our order she had no interest in coming and checking on us at all. Even though we saw her multiple times checking on tables around ours and socializing with other employees and even  the manager to my surprise. So 30min wait for cold food and an hour with no water. This has to be the worst Applebee's we have ever been to. Poor service all around. The only goods thing about it was how fast we got seated.
