If I could give this restaurant six stars, I would They went all out for us and my parents 50th wedding anniversary. My parents took my brother and I with them to the restaurant again because they had such good service the prior week. I ordered a vegetarian burger with chips and it was outstanding. What was a standout for the restaurant was the customer service. The assistant manager(?) Clay was superb and remembered my parents and treated them like royalty. He treated them to a discount on their bill and chatted with them and was so friendly and warm. He introduced us to the rest of the team at the restaurant and everybody there congratulated my parents made them feel so special. Our waiter was amazing and attended to all of our needs. The food is just so delicious and we will definitely come back again. It's beautiful too with fire pits and lots of seating. It's so nice to know that there are restaurants like this filled with people who really care about their customers. They treated us like family!

We were in Santa Cruz but wanted a more upscale vibe, so we drove to Aptos and found The Hideout. The restaurant offers plenty of parking along with both indoor and outdoor seating. The space is very clean and well-decorated, featuring high ceilings and fans. They feature a rotating tap for beers, and our table was located near the fireplace for added ambiance. My wife ordered the cioppino, and I went with the daily special halibut plate. Staff were super friendly and we enjoyed the experience.

Service was awesome. Petrale Sole was great! Burger and the chicken sandwich, was good but a bit dry to our liking. Outdoor sitting is a bonus for us.

Hide Piece **Hidden Gem Alert** We were actually on our way to a different restaurant for lunch after a morning hike at nearby Nisene Marks State Park when we drove by the Hideout, and the name intrigued us. After a quick Yelp search confirmed our suspicions and checking out the menu, we called an audible at the line and went here instead. This family-owned classic American restaurant is a converted '30s home and has been serving the Aptos community for over ten years (circa 2015). The current iteration is a total remodel after a catastrophic fire back in 2019 and is beautifully done. The Good: * Fairly large private lot for parking (there's more behind the building, FYI). There's also some street parking available, as well. *Building feels very modern and clean, with a relaxed environment full of (mostly) locals. * Great service by "Micaela P." *Dog-friendly heated outdoor dining *Full bar with local brews on-tap *For once I ordered the salad, and the Ahi Salad was an excellent choice. The Ahi was seared nicely, and the soba noodles with their soy-ginger dressing was fantastic. All the veggies were also very fresh. *Carissa ordered the 12oz NY-Strip steak and it was cooked perfectly medium rare and accompanied by two huge slabs of herb butter. The crispy potatoes were a fantastic and worthy side dish. They should feature those in an app with some queso and bacon bits *chef's kiss* The Meh: *Fried Artichoke app could've used more seasoning in the batter, but otherwise they were fried up beautifully and the concomitant aioli was delicious. The Ugly: *Wish this place was closer to home. But next time we're in the area, this will be where we head out to. Conclusion: Fantastic local hidden gem that's definitely worth a stop, especially if you're hiking nearby.

We were hiking in the area and called an audible. We had already picked out another restaurant for lunch but we spotted The Hideout and after checking it out on Yelp, we decided to go there instead. And we're so glad we did. The service was great and the ambiance--both the patio area and the inside of the restaurant--was lovely. Everything we ordered was fantastic. John and I pulled a switcharooni that day. I usually get a salad and he often gets a steak. But he got the ahi salad and I got the NY strip. We both got to try each other's dishes and we were impressed. The potatoes that went along with my steak were so good that I couldn't stop raving about them. And John's salad had this amazing dressing. It was the perfect finish to our wonderful morning hike. Highly recommend!

Hideout is a poppin! Every time I come here the food is fantastic. Sometimes there's a wait and although worth it , it can take some time. But we have yet had a bad experience here dining. My last visit my friend and I decided to share appetizers so we could try a variety of items and try a few things on the menu. Everything was so tasty! The onion rings were crispy and came with bbq sauce, one of my fav items we got! TIP: It is a good option to order for a large group, it is a large portion for $10. We also shared the burrata and tapenade, I like that it came with balsamic glaze for a savory and sweet effect. We got the Mac and cheese and added short rib. It was a really large portion too! It was as $15 for the Mac and + $9 for the short rib I believe which I didn't think was a bad price at all for what we given. We had a ton left over which will last us 2 days as a side dish for dinner later on. Buffalo wings came with 11 wings, they were garlicky and the buffalo sauce had great flavor. Overall this is always a great spot to drop by for dinner, drinks, and/or appetizers. It's easy going here, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food is delicious.

We had a lovely time at The Hideout. The vibes were perfect, and the service was excellent and friendly. The truffle fries were seriously amazing, and the fried chicken sandwich was solid as well. The mac and cheese didn't quite do it for us (overall a wee bit bland/heavy), so I'm not sure I'd get that again. Overall would return!

Good: - artichoke hearts - skirt steak - chile con verde soup - prime rib Meh: - chicken wings (dry; they took it off our bill which was nice)

Still my go-to when driving south towards Monterey. Consistently tasty food, great service and they usually have a good special. Had smoked salmon morsels to start then the blackened fish tacos, which were generously portioned. Outdoor patio has heat lamps so comfy even on cool days. Gender neutral large bathrooms are always spotless. App was $18 tacos were $20, so with drink and tip it's a $50 lunch. Good value for good quality ingredients freshly prepared plus wonderful service

It was a beautiful day out, so we decided to sit outside. The heaters were on, which was perfect, because it was a little cool in the shade. Our server was quick to attend to us, but we weren't ready to place any orders yet. Everything sounded good, so it was hard to decide. We finally went with the deep fried artichoke hearts, Caesar salad, and the salmon risotto. All to be shared between us. Everything tasted very good, and the ingredients were fresh. The Caesar salad was a half order, and I was surprised how big it was. Maybe it's because I don't normally order salads, so to me it was huge! Haha. The fried artichoke hearts were also so good. I didn't even need to dip it. The risotto was on point! So delicious! The salmon was perfectly cooked as well. I enjoyed my meal here. Service is quick, and the food is great.

My second time eating at The Hideout and the food is always good. I ordered Fresh Salmon Risotto and my husband ordered The Hideout Burger. Very fresh salmon and veggies, it was amazing. The service was excellent and their ambiance is beautiful, especially their outside patio. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu.

We're visiting the area and found The Hideout on Yelp. Even arriving at 7p on a Sunday, the place was packed. We still were greeted and seated promptly inside by the fireplace, which made it feel cozy. Our server was friendly and helpful, confirming with the kitchen that what I wanted to order was gluten-free. We ordered the prawns and salmon, switching plates halfway through. The sauce on the prawns was a bit salty to me, but spicy / nice for my partner. I really enjoyed the salmon, which was cooked slightly over medium. Both dishes came with a tasty risotto and a mix of carrots and asparagus. When we were ready to go, our server handled the check promptly, and people were still streaming in at 8p. The Hideout was very good, and we would go again when in the area.

We were treated the same both times. Glad to see that both adults and so called "kids" are treated thw same no matter what :) Vibe 10/10: It's so pretty!!! The first time I learned about this place, I wanted to go for the pictures. There's a little trolley that you can ride down to the front of the door, or you can walk the stairs. It's somewhat hidden, so it feels so... I don't know how to explain it. The restaurant is below where the parking lot it. I honestly can go on and on about the vibes of this place. The lighting is warm, so many plants too!! Service 10/10: As someone who has worked in the food industry, you always have a line that you say to every single customer. My boyfriend and I joked about jow the server was going down every new table saying the same thing. It was definitely a treat to hear. After the servers gets to know us, I notice that they definitely starts talking on a more personal level. My boyfriend is also on his little "wine craze" so he asked the server to recommend something. He loved what was recommended. Food 9/10: Personally for me, the food wasn't something to go crazy for. It's definitely more of a place where you can talk to each other and sit for dates. Food was still so good though! I can eat that damn mashed potatoes forever though!

After more than 20 years of visiting this magical place, something has definitely changed. New chef? New menu? Whatever the reason, the food is simply not what it used to be. The atmosphere is still wonderful, and the employees remain fantastic. Unfortunately, our food was undercooked, lacked flavor, and was very disappointing. We actually left hungry, and honestly a little sad, because we have so many great memories of dining here over the years. The restaurant also seems busier than we have ever seen it, which is great for business, but I can't help wondering whether the quality and freshness of the food have suffered as a result. This was once a place we could count on for consistently fresh, high-quality meals. We truly hope this was just an off night and that the food returns to the standard that made this place so special for so many years. For longtime customers like us, this was such a disappointment.
