The classrooms are always clean and well-organized, and the parent volunteer program is something we especially appreciate, it gives us a real window into the classroom and keeps us closely connected with the teachers. A special shout-out to Mrs. Lin, who is truly exceptional at what she does. She's warm and kind with the children while also being firm in the best way, gently guiding them through the Montessori approach. You can tell she genuinely loves the kids and the work. If you have a 2-5 year old, this is such an enriching environment. We feel lucky to have found Villa Montessori and would recommend it to any parent looking for a nurturing, thoughtful preschool. Five stars!

Villa Montessori is the best thing that has happened to our family. This is my 4 year old's second…read moreyear at Villa and he started as an extremely shy and sweet kid with no previous day care or school experience. In the past year, he has blossomed into an independent and assertive child, and he has learned a lot both academically and socially. Villa has an amazing ratio of 1-8 (3 teachers per classroom of 24 kids) that sometimes falls to 1-6 or 1-7. They are a true Montessori school, and the child stays with the same teachers for all the years. My son's two main teachers, Mrs. Fan and Mrs. De Silva, have been with the school for over a decade. My son has received a lot of individualized attention and loves his teachers. I think he would like to live with Mrs. Fan if given the chance. :) The teachers at Villa are extremely good at what they do and very passionate about Montessori education. When I went in for "observation day," each child was doing a different "job," so the teachers were managing 24 different activities, but everything was still very orderly. Even the tiny 2.5 year olds knew the rules and everyone knew to clean up. We really appreciate how diligent our son has become with washing hands, tidying up spaces, and wiping surfaces! Director Lin's leadership is also really exceptional. She is extremely organized, responsible, and sets clear expectations for the kids and parents. I love that the handbook, documents, twice-a-year report cards, and paperwork are all in good order. She is also very hands-on and I have seen her consoling a crying child in her lap, spoon feeding another child during lunch, and taking the time to talk with the kids individually. I am so impressed that she takes the time to get to know every one of the forty-some kids at Villa. She works many many hours at Villa and commutes from an hour away. Villa is not just a job for her - this is her life's purpose. Everyone at the school is very responsive and excellent with communication. Karen (who manages most of the administrative tasks) and Director Lin will usually respond to messages on Brightwheel within a few hours. We really appreciate how they take parent concerns very seriously. The flexibility of programs at Villa is also great - they have AM program (9-12 pm), PM program (1-4 pm), PM plus extended care (1-5 pm), full day (9-4 pm), or full day plus extended care (9-5 pm). I feel very lucky to be able to enroll my child in a half day program so that he gets a few hours of school every day, and we still get enough hours to go on an adventure together outside of school. One really brilliant and unique thing about Villa is that their after-school program (school ends at 4, there is another hour of after school until 5 pm) teaches the children Mandarin Chinese! I enrolled my son in the after school hour just for the Chinese class - Mrs. Fan and Mrs. Liu are both excellent Chinese teachers from Taiwan. I sat in on one class to see what it would be like, and was astounded that all of the kids had excellent pronunciation. Chinese tones are very difficult so it was really surprising to see a room full of non-Chinese kids speaking perfect Chinese! Lastly, the other Villa families also makes this place special. Villa is a non-profit with a governing board that is made up of parents. We really appreciate the parents that have taken on this responsibility. We have also made many friends at Villa, and really appreciate the sense of community. We truly couldn't have asked for a better preschool experience and will definitely miss this school when our son graduates!

Finding a daycare that could safely accommodate our son's medical complexity including G-tube feeding was extremely challenging, especially for an infant. From the very beginning, the team at Early Horizons went above and beyond to provide not only excellent care, but also genuine love, support, and nurturing for both of our children. Special shoutout to Teacher Crystal and Teacher Kristen in the infant room, and Teacher Jennie and Andreina in the toddler room. These individuals are absolutely amazing, and we fully trust them with our children. They are so nurturing and loving, and you can truly tell they enjoy what they do and have a genuine love for kids. Our son attended from 10 months old until he was 2 1/2, and our daughter started at just 5 months and stayed until she was 2. Both of them thrived in this environment, and as parents, we always felt reassured knowing they were in such capable and compassionate hands. As they reached each milestone, the amazing teachers celebrated with them. This was so heartwarming as it revealed how much our children meant to them. One thing we especially appreciated was the consistent updates throughout the day--feedings, snack times, and photos. It gave us so much peace of mind and helped us feel connected, even when we were apart. We never felt like we were missing out on their growth and development. If it weren't for changes in our family situation and commute, we would absolutely still be there. Early Horizons will forever hold a special place in our hearts and sets the highest standard for all daycare centers and schools. We highly recommend Early Horizons Preschool to any family looking for a safe, supportive, and loving environment for their children. One final note-- our son's Occupational Therapist, who's been working with children for nearly two decades, paid a visit to Early Horizons to assess the environment to provide strategies to maximize our son's abilities. Verbatim, she said, "I've never seen a daycare that is more caring and accommodating than this one". Cheers to the best daycare ever! Thanks for the core memories!

Ms Shrivani and Ms Rose (Room 10 teachers) are absolutely incredible. They taught my daughter so much from math, spelling, science, history etc. I felt like they really prepared her for Kindergarten. They are so caring to all of their students. They organized the greatest events as well, for example Mother's Day/ Father's Day, Graduation Day. They made these special moments so fun! This was a fairly new school and it was the most affordable Montessori school in the area. The tour went well and Ms Lana helped us feel at ease that he would be getting great care and education with them. The classrooms were clean and the learning materials seemed very contemporary. Our son adjusted well after a couple weeks and we started to see a great improvement socially and academically and his feelings about school completely changed as well. He was half day initially, but we decided to extend after he was potty trained. He grew to love going to school and eventually during pick up, he'd hide behind his fingers which he explained "I was hiding because I want to stay at school". He loved his teachers and I can tell he got the individualized care he needed. I know my son's time here has made a lasting impression on his educational journey and we would recommend this school to any parent looking for a quality, affordable Montessori school in the area :)

During the tour of the 3-year-old class, I saw a teacher holding a cup of steaming hot tea without a lid, walking through a group of children and even hugging two of them. After entering the classroom, the teacher put the tea on a cabinet, which was fine. But a little later, she moved the hot tea to the table where the children were having snacks. I questioned the tour guide on the spot, and was told that the school provides complimentary drinks for teachers every day, and that this poses no safety risk since they've never had an incident where hot water was spilled on a child. This response shows that the school prioritizes not offending teachers over children's safety.

The first 3 teachers were especially nice to talk to, and they came across as welcoming. However, I had a bad experience with Ms. Verna Rego, the music+dance class teacher. She came across as pushy, and handled her disappointment at my child transferring out of BB quite badly - for reasons beyond my immediate understanding. I barely stopped myself from being confrontational in the play school classroom. (I think the motivation was to increase class strengths and thereby raise money for the class, but the other teachers did so much more professionally and engagingly. But this is speculation on my part just for my own understanding.) Save for this one teacher, I am happy with the school. I heartily recommend the other teachers. FWIW - my child transferred to a full time (non-participatory) pre-school, and is doing well, contrary to Ms.Verna Rego's expectations. Imperious behavior and shaming parents for deciding what's best for their child never work, Teacher Verna. Not that I really care about advising you, it's only about my child. And for the future parents who take your classes.

This was my second to least favorite of the 6 parent participation preschools I visited, yet I…read moresigned up anyway. Why? My favorite (Mtn View Parent Observation) only met one day a week and I wanted another school my twins could attend one day a week, and this was the only other one. Also, a big plus was that I could stay with my kids at the school while they played. At other schools like Sunnyvale Parent Participation the moms were assigned a station, and they looked ready to kill themselves as they stood alone in a room to monitor the dress-up area or the puzzle table. Mom Interaction The class make-up was about 75% Indian, 20% East Asian (mostly Taiwanese), and 5% Caucasian. Socializing with other moms was hard. Everyone was nice but almost all had only come to this country very recently, and didn't know the language well. I actually met an American-born Indian mom who pulled her daughter from this school after a year because it was TOO Indian. The plus: good Indian food at the potluck. Mommy Meetings The meetings felt like "parenting for dummies," like I was attending a remedial parenting class. I was talked at instead of having a real discussion. The discussion one day was about how playing is good for kids. If you don't know this by now, I seriously question your parenting skills... (This is in contrast to Mtn View Parent Observation's mom meetings that were informative and a fun gab session.) Curriculum/Classroom The play area is largely concrete, which was one of the big turn-offs to me when I initially visited. The sitting area is WAY too small for parents and kids. The school lacks funds and it shows since there wasn't much variety in the toys on the table. Even after only a few weeks there were lots of repeats. Also, the puzzles (3-5 piece puzzles with non-interlocking pieces) were too easy for my kids who admittedly were the oldest in the class. I'm not bragging, just wishing they could have had some variety and something age appropriate. And please, school, provide nametags that work. These never worked well at all, and usually hung backwards. Also, if I have to march with flags one. more. time... And then there was the incident. My kids had been dealing with separation super well with no problems for a month after the mommy meetings started. But then one morning, my daughter got upset when she couldn't see me in the classroom when I was with her twin brother. (He was still eating and she was behind a wall with dress-up clothes. Not an ideal set-up to have a barrier here, by the way.) She was very clingy just before separation time, but I settled her and left, thinking that if there was a problem someone would get me. Twenty minutes passed, the meeting ended, and I thought everything must have been fine, and I walked back to the classroom. She was crying. One of the moms was holding her, and she told me that she and some of the other moms had been comforting her the last twenty minutes. TWENTY minutes. They were supposed to come get me after FIVE. After school I spoke to the teacher and aide about it. The teacher had been at the meeting with me, but the aide stayed behind with the kids. The aide told me she had no idea that my daughter was crying. Both seemed skeptical that about her crying since it had gone unnoticed by the aide, and raised questions about how long or hard she'd been crying. (I would have preferred more of a sincere apology and empathy.) They asked if there was a mom my kids knew who looked out for my kids, as though 1) it was my fault, and 2) after a few weeks my kids were super close to the other moms like we've been hanging out and babysitting each others' kids for years. I believe the aide and of course don't think she was doing anything malicious. HOWEVER, I think things could definitely have been handled differently. The moms told me that several kids that day were crying in the outside yard (where they can see the moms leave), per usual. I think that once the aide calmed down the criers, she thought her work was done. I suspect she went inside once and didn't notice anything amiss with my daughter because she's a sobber, not a screamer, and with the moms holding her, the aide didn't see her. But clearly she should have ASKED if everyone was okay. After this incident, I had a totally different child. At home with their beloved grandparents visiting, at parks, and at playdates my previously independent daughter didn't like leaving my side for a minute. At their other preschool I couldn't go the mommy meeting for *months*, and she was glued to my side the ENTIRE class. I couldn't get her to play; she just wanted to stand next to me, and cried if I even started to walk somewhere else. I even had to sit next to her during snack time when all the kids sit together to eat their snacks. It might not sound like much, but this was a very VERY difficult time for her and me. (more to come eventually in "update" below...)
