My husband and I really enjoyed meeting Kevin and were beyond happy with the quote we received to fix another electrical company's mess ups. However we've been trying for over a week to get ahold of both Kevin and the company to take them up on their estimate :( i thibk weve each called about 2 to 3 times a piece. it's frustrating because we want to do business with them, but how many times do we need to call to give them our business?. These electricians gave me a headache actually. I told Martin the issue which was lthat the lights in my apartment would turn off and back on. I had actually called another electrician who told me that it was a really easy breaker issue. So i was hesitant went he sent SERGIO who started fixing up all the lights one by one. He never found the problem, but he did get his $$ for being there for 4 hours (45 minutes of him driving from wherever his office is and another hour of him going to home depot to buy new light fixtures?) Right after he left, the lights went out again so I called Martin and martin told me he would send sergio back- no charge. Sergio looks behind all the outlets and finds nothing, tells me he tightened everything up, which takes 2-3 hours. I refuse to pay as I know he didn't find the issue. Martin gets me on the phone and tells me I have to pay. So now they're bullying me into paying for spending time fooling around at my apartment and telling me I don't know anything about electrician business even though I know he didn't find the root cause. I just wanted to go to another electrician at that point. I paid anyways and now that i'm $600 out of money (for looking behind my outlets and adjustin light bulbs-mind you), the lights go out again! repeat: i just spent 8 hours and $600 to have sergio fool around my oulets that were never broken and reinstalling lightbulbs. bullied me into paying, and my lights (same problem) have the SAME ISSUE. nothing was fixed. my lights are a little brighter (yay) (sarcasm). nobody has the time or money for this kind of service. I call martin, he sends his "best guy" on monday as he tells me (i think miguel) who is awesome and finds the breaker problem immediately. I don't think i got to thank you- so thanks a lot, miguel! so now i'm down $600 because of an incompetent electrician. If you must go with this company- ask for miguel (who was at my apartment for a total of 30 minutes and who was extremely nice to me). if you're getting sergio- you're just gonna get bullied out of $600 dollars. if you asked me why i paid: imagine 2 electricians lecturing you for 2 hours when you know you were right. sergio lectured me in person and martin lectured me over the phone (he just took sergio's word for whatever he had done!) I am going from 1 star to 2 stars and going to condense my feedback. 1) communication confusion over what their technicians said versus what my tenants said. my tenants told me they never told Beck Technician, John he had to leave the first visit but owner, Martin told me that his technician told him they did...this is important because the time, travel, and visits are all part of what you are charged for. the 2nd visit was unconfirmed and cause confusion amongst everyone with a "dropby" and we were going to be charged 2nd travel fees prior to me calling to share my concern over being charged for a visit that wasn't confirmed. Troubleshooting should be 1 visit. 2) In the end, after two visits and two long phone conversations with the owner, the job was completed, so we are pleased it was finally fixed, however the technician, Kevin, called us 20 minutes before the scheduled appt at 8am that he'd be there at 9am, but showed up at 10am. we understand some traffic, but we didn't get updates on it; and my tenants had to reschedule their plans due to the inconvenience. My tenant is a Marine officer and had made special arrangements to be there to ensure no more miscommunication occurred. 3) Pricing it not unreasonable, but it was a headache getting quotes, and agreeing to proposed solutions. When I asked for a quote; the owner said he would get it to me right away, which wasn't right away. I am not unreasonable, but give me a realistic timeframe and I'll wait. The owner left me voice messages and spoke to me several times explaining his personal life and personal circumstances which I found to be very unprofessional. As a customer it made me feel uncomfortable. We all have jobs, families, pets, etc. but I just don't need to know all these details; i just need to know what to expect in terms of time, price, and services. I felt as though I was being bullied and guilt tripped the entire time working together. I actually wish I had read some of the previous reviews which mimic what I am saying; but my husband chose them due to cheaper initial fees. All in all, if you have a simple job it is possible to get a decent service, but anything unique; I would probably pay for another company that might be more expensive but far less headache. read more

This review is long overdue. When I moved into my home several years ago I had Beck replace the panel and do a few other odd electrical jobs around the house. The job was well done and reasonably priced. A year later, after getting central AC installed by another group, we were having trouble dealing with some of the city inspectors for the electrical portion of the AC work (which was done by someone else). I had called Martin Beck just to see if he had any advice, and he went above and beyond, contacting and meeting with the inspectors multiple times on my behalf until the situation was eventually resolved. He had no obligation to do so, but he handled the situation for us. I am extremely grateful for his help. Beck provides great service and cares for his customers. Beck rewired my North Park home, updating it from knob and tube wiring. The job took longer than expected and cost more than expected due to some unforeseen difficulties. Nonetheless, I feel the pricing was fair and the job quality was solid. My one complaint is that when the job ran long, it ended up taking even longer because it started conflicting with other scheduled jobs. I feel like this caused our job to lose priority. Comments: True professionals - lived up to their reviews and ratings on the web from start to finish. Work evaluation and estimate was quick and prompt, thanks to Martin. Proof of license and insurance were provided together with the proposal - shows their their passion towards their profession. Work started on dot, executed methodically and completed in time (about 6-hours total) by the lead tech Miguel. Templates were installed to mark the locations of the recessed lighting fixtures and we reviewed/adjusted it as need. A good quality bath fan was installed. Minimal drywall cuts, minimal power interruption, 0% damage to other aspects of the property, clean-up after work. Overall - couldn't have been better. Job well done and well commended. I shudder to post this review because we love them so much and I don't want to compete with other customers when I need them. Kidding. Sort of. Seriously, Martin and his team are phenomenal. We've had them install recessed lights in our kitchen, two ceiling fans, under cabinet lighting, and sconces. They've fixed a bad circuit breaker, installed gable fans, repaired an outside socket, and installed dimmer switches. There is literally not a room in our house where they haven't worked, and they have never disappointed. Martin and his staff are friendly, professional, honest, and trustworthy. Very satisfied! I hired Beck Electric to remove and replace some of the old knob and tube wiring I had in my house. I have an old 100 year old craftsman house. It is a difficult and delicate job because my walls are fragile (plaster) and the job requires to work in tight spaces (the attic and crawl space). I'm always hesitant when hiring for any type of work. I don't know much about electrical stuff so I came to yelp to look for an electrician. I decided to go with Martin and his team based on all the good reviews. Martin didn't disappoint as I called and scheduled an appointment the next day. Martin helped me install several z-wave switched and troubleshooted a problematic outlet in a bedroom. All the work was done in about an hours. Both times John came to my place - the first time to diagnose and the 2nd time to perform the work after purchasing the needed supplies - he was very prompt and courteous. Beck did an excellent job rewiring the electricity in our kitchen. We just bought an older home and needed a 240v outlet to run our dual-fuel range. After extensive research and several estimates, I decided to go with Beck. While the estimate Martin gave wasn't the lowest (wasn't the highest either), I felt more confident in the plan Martin laid out for me and was willing to pay slightly more for that comfort. Martin sent Miguel out to do the work. Miguel showed up on time, knew what to do, and got right to work. He was very professional and courteous. He told us how long it would take him to complete the job, kept us updated on his progress throughout the day, and finished on time. The end result was perfection. I just came back from my honeymoon, and guess what? Half of the outlets in our house were on the fritz (aghhh!). First, we had a random electrician come by the house in the morning... he said that the issue was that 1 of the lines feeding into the master circuit breaker was dead... quoted me $450 to fix this and also quoted a second option - a WHOPPING $3000 to replace the entire circuit breaker!!!! After hearing these amounts, I went right to YELP and found Beck Electric! I got a hold of Martin, and he came by on the same day to check out the problem... I told him what the previous electrician had diagnosed & quoted. 10 minutes later, he had discovered that the issue wasn't related to our wiring at all... and that the problem was actually on SDGE. Later that evening, we had SDGE come out to verify what Martin had found... and they were able to confirm that Martin was right! 1 of the lines feeding into our meter coming from the street was very corroded! No need for a new $3k circuit breaker =). TLDR: Martin's THE MAN! Extremely trustworthy... tons of experience... great customer service. He saved us a bunch of $$$ as well! After like 5 other contractors coming by and "not knowing how difficult the job would be" and telling me they might have to cut giant holes in my ceiling, Beck told me not to worry - he had it under control. Today, I had Beck Electric over my house for a second job. 5 years ago, I had them install some recessed lighing and I agree with the other postings that they did it without cutting big holes in my ceiling. They did a great job then, so I had them come over and check out a problem I was having with a few outlets in my kitchen. It turned out to not be a problem, and the electrician explained why. He was there, 5 minutes early for the appointment, was friendly and professional. We wanted a ceiling fan installed in the guest bedroom and a security light installed in the back yard. I called Martin to install a range when the delivery people who brought my new range informed me that they don't do "installation" or removal for that matter (wish they had told me this when I bought it!). Martin got someone to my place promptly at 8 am the next morning and he not only removed the previous range, but he put it outside in a convenient spot for pick-up . He installed the new one, which was a tight fit but he skillfully maneuvered the new range into its narrow spot and got everything working. He then cleaned up every bit of the mess he had created, very impressive. Prompt, helpful, competent, competitively priced and clean, can't ask for more than that from a worker coming into your home. Contacted Beck Electric at the suggestion of the cable guy who said an entire wall of outlets are emitting too much electricity... contacted Martin at Beck who strongly suggested that an electrician come out asap. An appointment was made for the next morning. Turns out, wasn't as bad as the cable guy made it out to be... but the electrician that Martin sent out did his own analysis to be safe, and grounded some outlets for my own piece of mind. I wish Yelp had more stars. If you're looking for an electrician, you can stop looking now, because Beck Electric are the best. Martin, and his whole team are wonderful. I can honestly say that the experience was great. They came in, gave me a reasonable quote, were completely confident in what they could do, and executed their job flawlessly and super super super professionally. I cannot stress enough that these guys are legit. Martin told me that the worst word in the English language is "can't", which means, they can do anything!! I got quotes from five or six electricians on yelp. Some were way overpriced, others were flakey, you all know how that goes. In our house in Scripps Ranch, I wanted to put LED recess lighting in my living room, replace a chandelier that's 23 feet high in the foyer, put additional recess lighting in our bedroom and replace 5 ceiling fans. Martin and his crew did it flawlessly. I am very very pleased and you will be too. Miguel was so good at the install of my recess lighting in my living room, that he minimized the amount of holes he had to cut, which saved me hundreds of dollars in painting costs! Awesome! I am definitely a fan (ahem) of Beck Electric. The ceiling fan in my condo died and I needed to get it replaced ASAP. The problem is that the condo has vaulted ceilings, so my regular handyman was reluctant to go way up there to replace it. I found Beck Electric here on Yelp and decided to call even though it was well after business hours. Surprisingly, I got a person on the phone and it happened to be the owner Martin. He was very helpful and able to schedule an appointment to replace the fan a day later. Awesome! Their electrician John arrived 10 minutes early, was very professional and super nice.
