What an amazing place. I visited Applewood for the first time about two years ago and had a great time listening to live music, sipping on a cider flight and taking in the beautiful surroundings. A few weeks ago when I was thinking of places to take my out of town SO, this place popped up in my mind! It turned out to be the most perfect way to show him around the area and have a relaxing day. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much they've improved since the last time I was there. Their food menu is much larger, and their offerings of cider are crazy! (In a good way) The prices were extremely reasonable as well. It was quite cold outside so all the fun was indoors in their heated barn, there were actually a couple bachelorette parties which was nice. Afterwards we explored the surrounding town and grabbed a bite to eat at the many options in Warwick. Already contemplating taking my mom for a pre-mothers day treat! read more

Tried to visit this winery to celebrate a friend's birthday. When we got there, we were asked if we had a reservation which we didn't which was an oversight on my part I will admit. However, instead of offering us the next available reservation, the staff member behind the counter basically had an attitude of " okay, you don't have a reservation so then bye, leave" which was appalling. We saw another place adjacent to Applewood called Apple Dave's and walked over. They had beer, wine, mixed drinks and even freshly made delicious apple cider donuts! The man there was extremely friendly and was the son of Dave. It was a great place to check out. In these times we need to be supporting local business and they should be supporting each other. It's disappointing that Applewood did not suggest we check out Apple Dave's while waiting for their next available reservation which time wise would have been appropriate and worked out well. I'd also like to mention we arrived at Applewood around 2:05pm and were told they were waiting on 2pm and 2:30pm reservations. There were a bunch of empty tables when we arrived and also again when we left Apple Dave's probably around 2:45. So it seemed if you had a reservation and didn't show up that they were not offering the table to anyone else which only loses them business. I would still like to try what this winery has to offer and maybe it was just that one staff member that needs some training in both common sense and customer service etiquette but I highly recommend people to check out Apple Dave's! read more

I always have fun when I come to Applewood Winery. I love trying their delicious ciders and white wine. Their tastings are $6, you pick 5 wines or you can order a cider flight. You can also order a pint of cider or glass of wine to just enjoy. In addition to their 4 regular hard ciders, they have 2 seasonal ciders - I enjoyed their mojito cider this past weekend - you'll like it if you love mint iced beverages! Their kitchen wasn't open this weekend but they allowed us to bring food and eat on their tables. My family and friends stayed here for 1-2 hours just chatting and enjoying the music. read more

If I could give a zero star I would. I just want to start off by saying how extremely disappointed my family and I were on our most recent visit to Applewood. We have been coming here for years and always experienced amazing service, great food and wine and a welcoming atmosphere. This past Saturday 8/8/20 we were treated essentially like garbage with no reason and right from the start we never even got to sit and enjoy anything! My girlfriend, mother and I walked in to simply do a wine tasting and maybe have some food. In recent Covid times, we immediately abided by the rules by wearing our masks and practicing social distancing. Once we walked in to the front desk area, no one was there to greet us and as we simply stood there and looked over at the fridge (by the way did not touch anything) a woman working there came over and screamed at us "Get back!" without politely asking. This was just the start. Then she proceeded to ask what do we want and we said in a nice way we would like to do a wine tasting. She then told us "Umm do you have a reservation?" We said no. She states "well sorry can't sit you we only take reservations here". So we noticed a bunch of tables actually scratch that like 10-15 tables open and many people leaving. As we asked her about this she said "oh we do take walk ins but we don't have anything open and the reservations for 3 are coming in (by the way it was 3:30, no one new was waiting behind us or showed up and lots were leaving as the place closed at 5). She did not like us asking these questions and simply said "hey can we just buy a bottle and sit outside away from people?" She screamed back "No we can't do that." with an attitude. My mother asked her why all the people in the back of the lawn area were walking around not distancing and she just kept saying that's not our business they do whatever back there which made no sense since it's all on the same property and kept screaming at us at this point "let me repeat myself again!!!!" My mother said back to her how rude she is being and how could they treat us like this when we did nothing wrong and if she didn't want us there to just simply say it and the lady all of a sudden was like "well I guess we could sit you over here" pointing to a table nearby. At this point we were so fed up, disgusted and walked away. We went over to Clearview winery where they treated us with respect from the beginning and all the way to then end. Very very disappointed and will never go there again or recommend anyone to go there either. I never ever write reviews good or bad but I just had to write this one as we walked away in disbelief. And I never wish upon anyone to be punished in these trying times of Covid however whoever the woman who worked the front desk around 3:30 was deserves to be suspended or fired for being rude to customers and treating people with upmost respect as we expected better out of applewood. Oh and to boot other people we met at Clearview winery after also experienced similar hostility from the same woman and turned away. Very upsetting and plain and simple never ever will go there again.... read more

Best thing here is the Naked Flock cider. It is REALLY good and I am thinking about making a returning trip just to get some more. The pumpkin cider is incredible and the Citra cider has added hops which give it subtle hints of IPA like flavor. All natural ingredients from the Hudson Valley- no additives or colors or anything like that. The winery itself is small. Tastings are $6 and you can pick from a variety of wines or ciders. The wines were pretty good; not incredible but some were things I would drink. Prices are very reasonable as well- bottles of cider are about $9 and most of the wines are around $20. The donuts were a disappointment. They were cold and I don't think they were cider donuts- just regular ol' donuts. I would skip these especially considering the line for them. But definitely a nice place to stop and enjoy some wine and cider. They were also making hard hot cider while we were there (cider with some apple jack added) and have regular hot and cold cider, hot dogs, and some other food available for purchase. The store had some interesting looking salsas and sauces. I would probably give the winery 3 stars if not for the cider which definitely adds a star. I would suggest a trip out here just for that. read more

We arrived up here from Brooklyn and our hotel suggested we stop by this winery. I have been to a lot of wineries and I have to say this one is up there! The scenery is magical and animals made it even better! We went on a Friday so there was no music or food but the roasters made up for that! It was as if they were talking to each other! The wine was amazing! Every wine my boyfriend and I tasted was great! The lady behind the counter was so cute and friendly! We could have talked to her for hours.we then went outside to sit and look at the wonderful, breathtaking scenery of trees and a huge lake! I would recommend stopping here among all the other wineries in the area. We left to go to another winery and were disappointed we didn't stay. Will be back on our next trip up here! :) read more

They had great live music, very knowledgeable gals at the bar to tell us about their various wines and great food from barbecue food truck. So much fun there. This weekend the Applewood Winery had their Tapas and Sangria Tasting event. For only $10 you get to try five different wines and three different styles of sangria which is paired with a tapas. Now, I love me some tapas and sangria, so I talked my friends into going there on Saturday afternoon. The event started at noon, so we thought we would be fashionably late and arrive more around 1ish. When we got there we were surprised that there were only four or five other people there. We didn't let this bother us to much, we figured that we would be able to be helped right away. We first started with our wine tasting. They give you a list of about 20 different wines and you are able to pick five that you would like to try. The staff is pretty knowledgeable and helpful. They help you pick out wines that would suit your taste (I would expect nothing less). Of the five that I tried, there was only one that I really disliked. I don't remember the name, I just remember that it had a very smoky taste to it. Anyway - about half way through our tasting, the women who was helping us had to run and ring up some more customers that came in. In her abstinence two other women came by to help us. I am not sure why they kept on changing staff people, but they seemed to be very disorganized and overwhelmed. Not sure why, since there was only about 15 people at the event by this point. We then moved on to the sangria and tapas tasting. Everything was pretty good, but the portions were super small. And since we were still hungry we decided to buy some food from their café and some sangria to share. Each of us ordered our own bottles of wine that we wanted to take home (I opted to get the Wawayanda White - very light and sweet). We then put in our order for the food and sangria. This is where the women behind the counter got frazzled. Since there were four of us splitting the order we decided to split the bill (to make it easier) with two credit cards. The women did not know what to do or how to do it. She told us that her credit card machine could not split orders and we would have to figure out a different way to pay. Luckily I had cash on me. So now we are told to take a seat and our order will be right out. We ordered the mini tacos, fruit and cheese platter, and antipasti platter. The women who was bringing us our food was also frazzled. She kept on forgetting what we ordered. She had to run back and forth about three times until we had everything we needed. Finally after getting everything we started eating right away (we were starving) and were quickly disappointed. The mini taco's were the frozen taco's that you would get at the ShopRite - hard and processed. The fruit and cheese platter consisted of a couple of grapes, eight crackers, couple of slices of pepperoni, and three different kinds of cheese. Now I am not joking when I say this, but the platter was the cheese and pepperoni platter you would get at ShopRite. All the cheese was in tiny perfect cubes - again it tasted extremely processed. The only saving grace that they had was the brie. The antipasti platter was again rolled up cold cuts from ShopRite, four or five pretzel sticks, canned roasted peppers, and some olives. The food was defiantly not worth the $30 it cost. Oh and the kicker of the whole day was when my friend accidentally spilled her drink all over herself and her finance, I ran in to get napkins to help clean up the mess, only to find out that they didn't have any. I had to speak to three different workers before they can locate napkins. Now if your place serves food and wine, don't you think you would have napkins easily accessible??? I am sorry to say that even though the wine is decent, I will never be going back to the Applewood Winery again. read more

I'm a member of their Wino club and as such am privvy to some pretty good deals but even if I wasn't I'd still love their wines. The winery is located in a rural section of Orange County and makes for a nice drive. I usually bring my dogs with me, taste a few wines and then chill out on the lawn with a good book. There's usually live music on the weekends and food too. I've found the owners and staff to be very accommodating and it's one of the first places I take out of town guests. The wines are delicious - my cellar is full of them! I have to stop myself from buying more and more wine each time I venture out. I love the Apple Blossom Blush and the International Red but also adore the Traminette and Summer Fields. Their hard cider is some of the best I've ever had and I consider myself a serious cider critic. There's never any pressure to buy, the other customers seem friendly and there's not busloads of ppl shoving you around as they descend from the city. Applewood is proof that good things do come in small packages! read more

When we arrived I wasn't sure if this was going to be a place we would like but after getting inside found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. The tasting had a choice of wine or cider but they also served spirits, beer and Meads. It was different because you had the choice of 5 so you could pick what you were interested in. We had a tasting and a round but because of the staff and atmosphere we had a second round. I would have liked the pours to have been a little more but overall everything tasted good and would recommend making this a stop on the wine trail. read more

This was one of the wineries on the list during a weekend getaway with my girlfriends. Located next to their apple orchard, this place has some pretty good hard apple cider. The wine tasting was $6 and we got to try 5 different wines of our choice. Next to the tasting room they have food available for purchase. Fell in love with their hard apple cider (love the name - Naked Flock!) and with their Wawayanda wine (yum!) Another winery that I always hit up as part of the Holiday wine tour. They make some really good wines and as the name might imply, some good hard apple ciders. I prefer their hard apple cider to any that I've had not just on the tour, but anywhere, much better than an Angry Orchard or even a Magner's. read more

UGH... crowded and GROSS. The place smelled of PUKE and PISS. IT was so gross. Unlike the OTHER wineries they don't even give you a complimentary glass, you have to pay for it and its a dollar more than the others. Yet the others give you complimentary glasses. Very crowded on the Saturday I went. Everyone was very friendly, it only took about 10 minutes to get to the wine tasting counter. The girl was knowledgeable and friendly and I enjoyed the wine tasting. There were lots of kids around and the tasting area was small, would be better if kids weren't allowed in that room. read more

Went to applewood 2 weeks ago for Apple picking and wine tasting. During the fall they have a tent set up with heaters for wine & cider tasting and have food, Apple cider donuts , fall pumpkins and gourds for purchase, a little shop w jelly jam and other items, as well as live music. It is great for adults and kids. They also have a nice tasting room as well and a wine club if you would like to join as a member. It was great trying the wines & cider and the grounds are beautiful and comparable to many of the smaller Long Island wineries that I have been too. It gets very crowded in the fall, but I continue to go back every year for the wine & Apple picking!! read more

I first started going to wineries back in 2004. Knowing nothing about wineries or wine tasting, the wife and I tried a few places and had mixed results. Then we wandered into applewood and they were very welcoming and informative unlike a few of the wineries we visited in the area. They took the time to explain the whole process of wine making. We had an awesome time and great conversations over a few glasses of wine. They made us feel like old friends catching up, rather than pesky customers like 2 other wineries (those wineries were fallout rude). However after visiting so many wineries I'm not entirely sure which was the rude ones and which just gave poor service. So I don't want to slam wineries until I revisit them to know for sure. All in all I've visited dozens of wineries and this one has been and continues to be my favorite. I'm sure other people will give their own account of their experience, however I've had nothing but awesome times there. Hope you do too. read more

It's apple picking season so it was incredibly crowded here. Even so, they had procedures in place to get cars parked and people moving and the visit went really smoothly. We went purely for the wine tasting and had some nice ones. I'd happily recommend it to others, but I was surprised that they don't let you keep the tasting glass like other wineries in the area. read more

Went with some friends on a weekend. It was very crowded, popularity can't be helped. The wine tasting room was small and, rather unfortunately, the port-a-potties to the venue--winery and orchard--were all lined up on the outside back wall of the tasting room. I wouldn't have minded if the scent hadn't drifted in. Thankfully at the tasting booth a fan was blowing fresh air right into our faces, so it wasn't a total bust. A number of wines themselves were all far too sweet for my liking, even the dries, some tasted like a cross between wine and flavored fruit juice. Seyval Reserve was a good refreshing flavor, enough sweetness for balance. The cider wine was surprisingly mild in flavor and thin bodied, only try the OBR if you truly enjoy earthy, smokey flavors. Glad I went once, will try other places. read more

We go to Warwick twice a year for the weekend, and Applewood is one of only two vineyards we go to every time. People working there are great, very friendly and knowledgeable. Wawayanda White is our favorite wine, and I love all the Naked Flock ciders. read more

I went to this winery expecting to enjoy some great wines. The wine list was minimal (there were no apple wines in the middle of September... at an apple orchard) The workers have a minimalist attitude also. There are other wineries in the area that are cheaper and much better selections with more helpful staff. Usually you get to keep the tasting glass and apparently that's not Applewoods policy. Also, the apple cider donuts are not flavorful, oily and more expensive than other orchards. read more

I went there with my family and some of my wives closest friends. We had a good time. The Hard Cider was really good, and the apple picking was really fun. The apples were awesome and we ate some strait from the tree. It wasn't that busy. The staff was pretty nice. I do suggest going there on a weekend if you have nothing planned. read more
