I've spent about $1,700 at HD since the start of 2026 so I was surprised at the trouble I've had returning a $275 item. I called the 800 HD service # first to see if I could return an item I bought online on my Home Depot card several months earlier. They suggested that I call my local HD, which I did. The employee I spoke to asked the manager on duty and he said to bring it in and they would give me a REFUND. I brought it back the next day. That was very difficult because I am 79 and the item was very heavy. The lady mgr. on duty would not give me a refund, instead gave me a credit for a future purchase. The cashier said the return policy had changed since Covid, HUH? I called the 800 service # the next day and they transferred me back to the local store. The lady that answered the phone at my local store should not be working with the public. I was shocked, she was rude and nasty, called the store credit a 'refund' and refused any further help. I'm now stuck with a credit for something I have not purchased yet and my local Home Depot is calling it "a refund".
