I walked from the tram stop to this restaurant, and do not recommend walking. It is uphill, a little confusing, and some of the streets I walked on were empty. The restaurant has several rooms on different terraces in the hillside. The rooms are covered and the views are not sweeping. There are many people working in the restaurant and thought it was not crowed I had to stand up and walk over to waitstaff when I wanted the check. Stunning restaurant with an amazing view. It truly feels like you're dining in a tropical jungle. I was prepared for such a beautiful restaurant to be a tourist trap; so I had lowered my expectations for the food. The appetizers weren't great but the octopus main course was cooked to perfection! The drinks were also very well-crafted here. The major downside is how difficult it is to get to the restaurant as it is quite far away from the beaches and major areas in the city. The windy, unpaved, and narrow paths going up the hills also make the car ride to the restaurant a bit daunting. But the memorable dining experience makes it all worth it. read more

The view here is a must see. A wonderful treehouse feel. This quality restaurant sits about the city and overlooks Rio. A favorite of locals and adored by the tourists alike. The ambiance was absolutely amazing. The food was also unforgettable. We had lunch here on a semi-busy afternoon and we spent two hours here. This was because of the service. The service was definitely lacking. It seemed like they didn't care about us. I will say everything was great except for the service. It almost ruined our afternoon but then the food arrived. My husband and I brought some friends visiting from the U.S. here last weekend. They had actually read about it and recommended we try it. We had a wonderful meal, and couldn't get over the amazing view that the location, high up in the hills of Santa Teresa, offers of Rio. The food was excellent. For a starter, I had the grilled hearts of palm with Parmesan pesto sauce. The presentation was really something and the palm melted in your mouth. My friends had the sea scallops, which were great. For my entree, I had the beef medallions that came with a side of Swiss potatoes and creamed spinach with bananas. The portion size was very generous -. 4 large medallions of some of the most tender beef I've ever had. The potatoes were also delicious. The only thing I didn't care for was the spinach (spinach and banana is just an odd combination to me). My husband had the duck, which came in one of the best sauces I've ever tasted. He practically licked the plate clean. Our friends had the moquequinha (fish stew), which was fabulous, and the talapia, which was a bit more fishy tasting than what I've had in the U.S. We shared a bottle of Brazilian wine (a red from Santa Catarina) that wasn't bad once it had a chance to breathe a bit. I'm not usually a fan of Brazilian wines, but this was light and drinkable and paired well with our meal choices. For desert, my husband had the petit gateau, which was very rich and chocolaty. I had the tarte Tatin, a warm upside down apple pie with a fantastic caramel lime sauce. The service throughout the night was good without being disruptive. Our waiter spoke quite a bit of English and was very helpful and friendly. Since we had an 8:00 p.m. reservation (early by Brazilian standards) and went in the off season, the restaurant wasn't overly crowded, so we could relax and enjoy our meal and the spectacular view. Our total bill for 4 people was about R$885 (approx. U.S. $280 at the current exchange rate), including the 10% service charge. Perhaps I'm just used to the high prices in Sao Paulo and DC, but I don't think $70/person is terrible, since we all had appetizers, entrees and desert (plus the shared bottle of wine). Having read reviews that mentioned that the restaurant won't call you a cab (you have to use their executive sedan service, which is pricey), we brought the phone number of a local taxi company with us and had no trouble ordering a cab to come pick us up. If you are looking for a unique experience, a heart racing drive halfway up a mountain on cobblestone streets, amazing views of the sunset over Rio, and delicious food and drinks, this is a place to start. While my boyfriend and I agreed the food was not the best we ever had, it was still pretty great and totally delicious. We had the scallop appetizer, which was a little underwhelming. I was expecting sea scallops but these were bay scallops (the tiny ones). I admit I am a scallop fanatic, so I may have unrealistic expectations, lol. We had a bunch of the fruity cachaça drinks, which were all different and fun. We shared a grilled heart of palm, which is hard to describe, but it was smokey, grassy, and tasted a little like fresh young corn on the cob...(I have to figure out where to get these at home!)...and looked like a pale bamboo shoot as long as my arm. For entrees we split the grilled octopus and a prawn paella-like dish. Overall, while the food was absolutely delicious, it wasn't the best we've ever had, but the setting, view, and experience will make it a meal we will never forget. read more

Getting there was somewhat of a hassle but it was worth it in the end. The view is spectacular and it is one of the most relaxing places I've ever eaten at. The food was great but the drinks, while they were delicious, had to many fruit chunks in them which made them difficult to drink through the straw. What an amazing place, what a great view, but WOW what a disappointment. The place itself is as dreamy as described, but the restaurant itself is not worth it ( at least anymore ). Very closed friends took me with great expectations; when we got there on Saturday night we were greeted with a paper menu that looked like a little church pamphlet. I did not want to quickly judge the place, so I thought maybe it was so we could see what the place had to offer..NOT! The place was empty (Saturday night), we carried the paper menu to the table as we were told to take it with us, and to our surprise that was the selection of the day. To start, it was extremely limited, but Im still giving it a chance after hearing so many great things about it. We ordered Acai Guac (which is not shown on the website menu), Tapioca couscous with shrimp; both were terrible....the shrimp was so so. From the main menu, we ordered the Tropical Fish and the meat plate. The Tropical Fish was descent, but the meat was not cooked as requested and was full of fat. Dessert selection was not half of what shows on their website (as of today) and the Caiphirina was nothing to be crazy about. Since the restaurant was so empty it was extremely difficult to get transportation (Uber) out of there. To end my story in worse terms, we got terribly sick that night. Terrible shame, because the place itself is amazing. I will not be going back. read more

Worth every penny. This restaurant was featured in the official Olympic "Guide to Rio" and pairs atmosphere with food so well that it's hard to imagine. The location is right in the heart of Santa Teresa and sits prominently on the top of a hill so you can watch the sun set on Rio centro. The wait staff is very prepared to answer any questions you have and gives excellent suggestions on the menu. We ordered cheesebread as appetizers, followed by their chicken dish (heavenly) and orange-sauce local fish (succulent). Everything on the menu looked amazing. After thoroughly enjoying our choices, we moved on to the best part of the meal: dessert. I ordered the Brazil nut ice cream with Amazonian fruit, which was very fruity and surprising, while my partner chose the caramelized plantains and vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate.
