    Sun-dried meat with cassava
    Jennifer H.

Came here for dinner, and there was no wait. The ambiance is super cute (although touristy, but I'm fine with it!). The waitstaff had cool outfits and hats, and there were times when they had live singing in the restaurant. There were some mosquitos flying around, so that was not great They had an English menu which was nice. We got the sun-dried meats and cassava for the appetizer. It was huge and could have been an entree in itself! The meat was mostly tender. Some parts were drier, and some parts were too salty, but still tasty. The fried cassava was surprisingly good. They were extra crispy and had a light/slightly sweet flavor. I didn't like the regular cooked cassava very much For my entree, I got the Moqueca (fish stew), which comes with rice and this yummy sauce. The fish was mostly tender, although some parts were drier. The stew also had pieces of shrimp (they were small and kind of dry). The flavor of the stew was amazing and had so much flavor! Also loved the sauce that came with it. My bf got a fish dish, which was pretty good, but also had some drier parts. For dessert, we tried the Sertao gelado, which was a sweet coconut and tapioca ice cream dish. It was interesting and pretty good and didn't have a strong coconut taste, which was good for me because I don't prefer coconut. Overall enjoyed the meal. Prices were reasonable

Barraca da Chiquita specializes in traditional Northeastern Brazilian food in a kitschy atmosphere with costumed waiters and live music. We started with the Moqueca de Peixe, a soup made of fish, shrimp, coconut milk, palm oil, peppers, onions, and tomatoes, served with pirao (a gummy mixture of cassava flour and hot stock) and white rice. The freshly-made Moqueca was served in a piping hot stone pot but was on the watery side and could have been stronger in flavor. We also had the Tambaqui Fish Ribs, three grilled pieces of meaty-fleshed tambaqui fish, served with couscous and Baiao de Dois (mixture of rice, cowpea beans, bacon, tomatoes, onion, parsley, and cheese). Overall, the food here was decent though not outstanding, and the service was no frills and straightforward.

We found this restaurant on Yelp while in Brazil, and decided to give it a try based on the ratings. The staff was friendly and provided us with an English menu. We ordered a combo for two which came with various meats, fries, and rice. The food was good and the portions were large. I think the combo for two could feed four people. Ambiance was loud and casual. It seemed to be a very popular place.

This is a place that seems to mostly cater to tourists who are visiting the area. The atmosphere is fun and lively, with musicians playing local music. The place is cheerfully decorated, and they have outdoor seating available. We were a group of 13, and everyone got a numbered card, which they used to keep track of your order and provide individual checks. This was a common practice throughout Brazil, which I think is great, especially when dining with a large group, so you don't need to figure out how to split the check. The menu has a variety of local Northern Brazilian food, consisting of mostly meats, rice, stews, and seafood. I ordered the sun-dried meat with yuca fries and typical rice. The meat was good but overcooked. The yuca fries and rice were delicious. This was the best rice I've had in a long time. Mostly, everyone seemed happy their food except some complained that the feijoada was way too salty. I tasted some and agreed that it was oversalted. The caipirinhas were very good and strong. I could only drink one. This place is a good option if you want to enjoy a lively fun atmosphere. They automatically charge $10 for the live entertainment. The prices seemed typical for a tourist area.

Initially, I was headed to dine at an Italian restaurant but saw Chiquita varied the way and it looked lively and full of people. There was a small wait but we were seated in about 15 minutes. This is a traditional northern Brazilian Cuisine restaurant. I'm not too familiar with Brazilian cuisine generally speaking, but there were lots of options on the menu. I saw oxtails and it's one of those things that if I see it, I'm ordering. My friend ordered a dried meat appetizer with cassava--it was a lot for an appetizer but the meat was so flavorful. I liked my oxtails but it could have used a tad more salt. This may also be because our food stateside tends to be more salty/sugary imo, but the flavor of the oxtail was there. Of course I had fresh coconut water and caipirinhas--must order beverages when in Rio!

Awesome restaurant! Tried the moqueca fish stew, the couscous with meat inside, the croqueta, the Alexander drinks and the ice cream with coconut amazing ness for dessert the waiter recommended. Everything was phenomenal! The dessert and the drink were outstanding. Everything was flavorful and delicious! Hands down would come again.

Wide selection of food and drinks, fun and friendly staff. They were able to accommodate separate checks for our party of 8. Big birthday celebration came in after us and brought their own dessert. One drink was WAY too strong and they made a different one for our friend.

If you like a little spice with some of your food, be sure to discard the tobasco sauce and ask for the molho pimenta especial. Be sparing with how much you use, it can get pretty ridiculous. The service was great and the staff was friendly. I don't think they speak much English, descriptive hand gestures and menu props are welcome and likely offensive. I'm stopping here again before I leave. Our meal for two came out to around R$100 for four drinks and feijoada to share. Portion sizes are large.

Its not that big of a space, but the open air concept, makes the space feel larger. We've gone in groups of 6-8 and people have enjoyed their beer, caipirinhas, and juices. For food we tend to split a Churrasco Misto: which comes on a hot plate cuts of beef, chicken and sausages. Rice and traditional farofa comes along with this dish. the only thing missing from it are Fries, but we always put in a separate order. Besides the Churrasco Misto, there are other versions of the Hot plate dishes: Only picanha, a Chorizo plate, and a seafood plate (which offers shrimp, octopus and squid and mussels). They also have other individual dishes and traditional brazilian bar food. For dessert we have had their Doce de Leite Pasteis which are great to share. Their Petit Gateau was ok, simple, nothing amazing. But if you are interested for something sweet to end the day they work too.
