My wife and I were driving from San Jose to Pacific Grove to meet relatives for a vacation. Our car is a 2014 Toyota Camry with about 125,000 miles on the odometer. The "check engine" light came on and the engine was running very rough. We pulled off Highway 1 at Aptos and stopped at a Safeway gas station. I checked the oil, and the level was correct. We knew we had to find a good mechanic. I asked the attendant where we could find one, and she told us Aptos Tire & Auto Care was three minutes down the road. We arrived at Aptos Tire & Auto Care about 9:30 a.m. They were evidently "slammed" with work. We were told it would be two hours before they could run diagnostics, but they actually put our car in the bay right away. Shortly, they said the problem was probably a spark plug, and it would be 12:30 p.m. before they could get them. About 10:30 a.m., they suggested they we go to the New Leaf grocery store, located nearby, that has an excellent delicatessen. We waited until about 11:30 a.m. to go the New Leaf and had a nice lunch and used the restrooms. We returned to Aptos Tire & Auto Care about 12:30 p.m. In about five minutes, they told us our car was ready and we were on our way. Our car ran smoothly for the rest of our ride to Pacific Grove. We really appreciate their quick service for an incident that could have spoiled our vacation and only was a minor inconvenience. read more

I called this business this morning to get my tire repaired - had a huge screw lodged in it. They said "come on in right now!" and I was there within the hour. I barely finished reading a chapter in my book when they said "you're done!". Literally 20 minutes and $25 dollars later I was back in business! BIG EGO ISSUES. Only came here out of emergency but was definitely a mistake. The manager here told me one thing, but I went to Costco, O'Reilly, and Auto Zone and all three told me this guy was wrong but he said everyone else was wrong. Doesn't add up buddy. Costco and O'Reilly luckily gave me written proof to show him and that seemed to shut him up. Without that I don't think he would've given me my car battery back. read more

Customer service was about as to be expected. Smiles were absent. Strictly business. Things went slow but the job got done. We were low on air and presented with the prospect of making the best at a store where we were not making any money was in fact presenting a nuisance. The proprietor made that clear. I have been coming here for tires for many years. This year, when I called, I asked for a specific type of tire and I was not concerned with the "brand". When I picked up my tire, they were not what I wanted. We discussed what I wanted, we reviewed their websites and I selected a tire that would meet my needs. When I called on Monday, they changed their story. Becase they threw away the sticker, they cannot return the tire and they argued with me that there were mud and snow rated yet they are not. They kept arguing so now I got screwed with a poor quality tire. I will not go here again. read more

Took a van in for an inspection. Inspection went well as far as I know. Unfortunately they cross threaded lug nuts mistakenly. I took the van to another shop to get the brakes replaced as they instructed me. The shop found the cross threaded lug nuts. I contacted Aptos tire to let them know and they refused to do anything or give a refund. Had to pay another shop to fix their mistake. read more

My car displayed the "low pressure warning," despite inflating the tire a month ago. I took my car into Aptos Tire and Auto Care and they saw me right away. I am never coming back. This shop changed my car starter when that was not the issue, charging me almost 600 hundred dollars. When my car had the same issue again, because they did not repair the right thing, I called them to bring the car back again and they showed no interest on helping me bring the car back into the shop. So I had to get another mechanic, since they apparently did not want to help fix my car. He charge me only 100 dollars because it was a matter of cleaning something up only. From which 30 dollars were because a liquid spelled when he was cleaning the valve and he had to refill it. Honesty goes a long way and that is exactly what you will NOT find at this shop. At this point, I do not believe that they even changed the starter. Never coming back. Do not go here unless you like throwing your money away. read more

I took my car in to see if my tire with a screw in it could be fixed/patched. When they removed the tire, we saw that it had been previously repaired and they indicated that the tire should never have been repaired (but replaced) because whatever had been stuck in there the first time rubbed on the interior of the sidewall, and with the sidewall compromised the tire could have blown out at any time. The red flag is, I had it repaired at Aptos TIre & Auto Care several years ago. They gave me the option to replace the bad tire, or get a whole new set. Since I was due for a new set anyway, I had them quote me on the tires which could be there by the next day, and they said they could put on a temporary loaner tire to get me through to my install appointment the next day. They verbally quoted me a price "out the door" and (after checking a source comparing the cost of the tires) I said yes, let's do it. I put down a $100 deposit and got a receipt for the deposit, but no paperwork for my order. They put on the loaner, and I was on my way. I dropped the car off for my appointment the next day and they did the work. It took about 1.5 hours longer than expected but that was fine, save the fact I had to call because I hadn't heard from anyone at the the time it was estimated to be ready. Both times (when I got the loaner/order, and when I came in for the installation/alignment) they had me sign papers authorizing the work, but had no prices - not sure they even had any description. When I picked up my car, the balance due was a few dollars over what they said would be "out the door" but that was AFTER my $100 deposit, so essentially $108 MORE than what I was quoted. When I read my receipt, turns out I was charged $126 for the loaner tire, so what I thought was a really nice courtesy service ended up being an extra charge that no one mentioned -- I could have easily had an Uber to take me the few miles home and back for a fraction of the cost of the loaner. The moral of the story is, get costs detailed in writing. The issue with the previous repair was a big concern, but it was a couple of years ago so I can't say who did that and if they are still employed there. I would give 4+ stars for the work on the new tire order and install (fair price, decent service), but docked the rating for the previous risky tire repair, and not telling me there was a cost for the loaner tire. read more

AVOID APTOS TIRE AT ALL COSTS. Was loyal to Luis and Miguel for two years because I like to support local.. haven't recognized any major issues with them until recently. Just paid them 3.5k to fix up my truck. It came back with new issues/noises After Luis offered to give me a "on the house" repair because of how much I spent. he either put the part in completely backwards or put in the wrong part. They also managed to lose my engine cover. On top of it all, he didn't give a rats a** about getting my truck back in a timely manner so he could fix it. I switched to Glenn's auto and they have been resilient! They laughed at the "free repair" and then fixed it in a timely manner. Now my truck is running better than ever!
