Beware. Get a second quote. Took my car to get quote for inspection and work which I know it was needed. The quote provided was for over $1,300 and was told the car was unsafe to drive as is and I had to make to make a decision right away if I wanted them to fit it in. The questions I asked were answered vaguely and were not making sense. I took the quote and researched what I was told, it was all BS. The verbal quote was different than the written copy I requested. Shady. (My father is a mechanic.) I took it to another shop and go the work done for $600. Get a second quote; especially if you are a female. Not sure if that is standard practice or just a specific employee. read more

I went in for what should have been a straightforward smog check a bit over a week ago and walked out with nearly $500 in charges for services that were unnecessary, dishonest, and flat-out deceptive. The upsell started immediately. I mistakenly thought this business was affiliated with Santa Cruz Tire & Auto when I was flagged down to head into one of their bays. They told me they couldn't perform the smog check until they diagnosed my check engine light, a $380 fee, so I left my truck with them. Hours later, they called claiming the O2 sensor needed replacement--at an additional cost of $280. A few more hours later, they called and insisted the vehicle didn't have enough fuel to recalibrate the computer (despite having a quarter tank) and charged me $20 to add gas. Though when the truck was picked up, the gauge hadn't moved--it was still at a quarter tank! Later, they called again claiming a new code for an oil pressure leak had appeared, quoting me over $1,200 in additional repairs. At that point, I stopped everything and picked up my truck because the entire situation felt increasingly suspicious. Here's where it gets worse: When I brought the truck to another smog shop (because the check engine light miraculously went off as soon as I got the truck home), it failed because the O2 sensor had never been replaced, even though I was charged for it. A technician confirmed no work had been performed. I ultimately had to take my truck to a third shop in San Jose to have the actual repairs completed--paying twice for something I was already billed for here. When my friend posted a review about this experience, I received a response from Paul, the owner, wanting to "make things right." Instead, what I received was constant phone calls during my work hours and no real resolution. To this day, I have not been reimbursed for the charges for work that was never completed. This business is not only dishonest but predatory. They upsell, deceive, and in my experience, exploit women by charging for services that are never performed. It is disgraceful that a company operating under the guise of "customer care" engages in such unethical practices. Do yourself a favor and avoid Auto Express Tire Pros at all costs. They will lie, overcharge, and take advantage of you. read more

Would never bring my car back here. Went in for a simple smog check and when I pulled out of the driveway the entire engine stopped and the red triangle of death showed up on the dash and display screen. Luckily I was able to limp into the parking lot next to me and hadn't made it to the freeway yet. I had them come over and take a look and they didn't know but said to turn it off and on then try again. He also had me Google the error code for him. So I did. It did it again just a few feet down the road so I went the fastest I could at 20mph and pulled back in to their shop. The guy working on cars said I'd have to to leave it so I went to check in with the front desk who basically just shrugged and tried to tell me it needs to be looked at but they don't know when they'd be able to. Obviously this is unacceptable so I said no you need to fix whatever you broke when all I came in for is a smog check and now it barely runs. I have work to get to this week so no you need to make it right and like it was when I brought it in. He tried to argue a little then realized it wasn't going to work and said OK. A few hours later they called and let me know it was probably the battery - not the hybrid one thankfully. But that wasn't right either because I just changed it out a year or so go. So they made something up to appease me rather than admit fault. I went to an auto part store and the guy told me the place probably ran down my battery by accident during the smog test and that's what hybrids do when the battery is dying - shuts everything down to bare minimum so you can slowly get off the road and have it inspected. So don't come here. A 20min simple thing turned into an all day stress event. It's not worth the $20 I saved with a coupon to go through all this BS, I won't ever be returning I don't think... read more

I have been a customer for several years and have experienced excellent service and often above & beyond assistance. The staff is always professional and helpful. I have had new tires installed and oil changes. I have also come in when I have had other auto issues not sure if they could provide the services and they have. I had trunk lift supports replaced and the other day they replaced the clips that hold the plastic protector below the engine. In that case they got me right in without an appointment and took care of it quickly. Their service fees are very reasonable. I highly recommend having your autos service there. read more

Auto Express Tire Pros on Soquel Ave REALLY are PROS. I bought 4 new tires at Wheelworks the same size as the old tires on the vehicle. Wheelworks was unable to mount my new tires on the rims. Went in for a simple oil change and got charged basically a $100 asked why and gave me a response as if the question was irritating. Last time I went in for a oil change they asked if I wanted air filters cleaned didn't know what that meant and got charged $30 when I thought they were just being nice. I purchased a set of high end new tires from a friend. I needed them installed on my truck so I thought I'd check with Auto Express since I've been getting my oil changed here for about 30 years. Rick answered the phone and said bring them in for an inspection prior to install. (Same guy who's always trying to pressure you for additional service on just about everything). My stock tire size is 275/60 R20. The new tires I purchased are 275/55 R20. This means they fit perfectly but just slightly lower profile (about 1/2") Rick started up with his theatrics telling me they won't fit, how they're gonna cause everything to be thrown way off, you should sell them on Craigslist and come inside so I can quote you on a shitty set of overpriced tires. "We can get them here by tomorrow, should I order them?" I said NO and went directly to Aptos Tire and Auto who said they'll fit fine and you probably won't even notice a difference which turned out to be true. Truck rides great. Very poor customer service. I went in for a smog that I had to redo for the dmv. Passed the first time and second time they said there was an issue that may be because my battery was turned off. They said to drive it more. They then charged me. But they didn't even charge the initial price. It was difficult to get information from them about the issue and they were suggesting spending another 180 for diagnostic. Seemed like old school ripoff mechanics. I don't recommend this place and I think they need to reevaluate their business practices. read more

Find somewhere else...anywhere else! Gave this place so many chances in the last 8 years. Bought my tires there so I could get them rotated everytime I came in for an oil change. I asked ahead of time & each time they had an excuse for not doing it. Took my car in for a scrapping sound from a front tire & they did an inspect & said I needed all kinds of different work but I was safe to go. The tech completely missed a caliper bolt backing out on a brake exam. Bolt fell off a few days later...no more scrapping noise & a brake job needed that I did Not & Will not ever have done there!! Tried one more time 4 years later to get an oil change & tire rotation. Emphasizing the tire rotation when I checked in. Nope! Excuses...gave me a huge estimate for replacing all the tires and brakes & rotors and Still Did Not Rotate the Tires!! I will Never go back! Boo Hiss!! Bad Form!! read more
