I went into the shop thinking it was going to be a simple oil change. Little did I know that the Audi dealership in Elk Grove screwed me over. As the crew was changing my oil they noticed a plate and two screws floating around. The owner himself (Kellen) had asked if I had some work done to it recently. I sat there and explained the situation to him that the Audi dealership themselves replaced some parts for me around Christmas time and he informed me they didn't put some parts back together but I was lucky enough to still have the bolts and the plate. We really wanted Kadotani to work out for us. They're convenient, Darcy is great, and their diagnostics usually adequate as long as they can get a code out of the car's computer. But, and they should know this, they are not just in the auto repair business, but the relationship business as well! Our complete brake job resulted in horrendously squealing brakes after they warmed up. Darcy asked us to bring it by when it was making the screech and we did. We demo'd the noise in front of the bays where the owner was standing. It was loud enough that Darcy came out of the office acknowledging that she could hear it. On the other hand, after calling his name and hoping he would engage with us in resolving the problem, the owner saw us, turned away and quite obviously ignored us. How's that for customer relations? What an affront, especially after giving them thousands of dollars of work over the last couple years. This seeming unwillingness or inability to cultivate positive customer relationships, hinted at during previous visits, undermines our trust and confidence in the entire shop. It's unfortunate that such an attitude can become the face of a business rather than all the hard work and effort I'm sure they put in daily. We took the truck to Toyota where they fixed it in a couple hours, saying that too much grease had been previously used, causing the squeal when it heated and got on the calipers. I wish Kadotani had been the ones to work with us and figure it out. read more

When he came to pick it up there were several things that hadn't been done and some that were poorly done. After some discussion, the woman in charge of Katotani's office saw to it that the repairs were redone and financial adjustment was made -- but the man who was originally responsible for the job didn't acknowledge his responsibility for all that was done poorly or not done at all. As the woman in charge of the office was helping make things right, he was cold, distant, and seemed annoyed -- rather than acknowledging the errors, being apologetic, and trying to help make things right. We have been going to Kadotani for many years for vehicle service. Today, we caught them red-handed trying to sell us service we didn't need and I wanted to warn everybody. We had brought our car in for an oil change, and when done they said to my wife "your back brakes are down to 30% and should be replaced fairly soon". One small problem: THEY HAD DONE all 4 brakes on that car just this past March (only about 10,000 miles ago)! I called Darcy back late today to question her about this, and she said "Oh, well maybe he didn't get a good look at the brakes. Sometimes when they take the wheel off they can get a better look." Fine, then why is he recommending an expensive brake service? But it gets worse: I just realized this evening that my car has SPOKE ALLOY WHEELS! You can see the brake caliper just as well as if the wheel were off. So, this is a case of either incompetence or dishonesty, so I am not going back there any more. I am also now concerned that a couple months ago they sold me a brake job on my pickup with 45,000 mostly highway miles that may not have been needed but now I'll never know. The good: we have been 10-year customers. Mr. Dave Kadotani's business was honest, fair, ethical, and performed excellent work. I once gave him a blank and signed check (literally) and asked him to do all needed work. The bill was $200. He could have padded the work and bill, but his character drove his actions. The bad: fast forward to now. Mr. Kadotani sold the business to his lead technician. My girlfriend needed a check-engine light checked, a $217 quote. Pricey, right? The fix was quoted as something connected to a bad exhaust sensor, at about $550 to fix. She accepted to fix proposal. Most businesses offer to check a check-engine light, and roll its fee into the associated fix cost. However, the new staff at Kadotani repair simply added the costs, nearing $800. Upon me calling and questioning, Darcy responded by claiming the bill was warranted and fair. I don't mind paying for services. Paying for services is 100% fair. I have a BIG PROBLEM with Darcy not being up front about the high cost to check the check-engine light not being rolled into the repair bill. Most consumers have become accustom to expecting the check-engine light fee to roll into the fix fee. Recognizing that my g/f should have made clear the terms at the beginning, I still believe Darcy was less then honest from the onset. Dave Kadotani ran an honest, upfront, and fair business. Often, final repair costs come in below estimates, and if they think it'll be higher, they stop everything to contact you for approval before moving on. Kadotani does some great work. I had been quoted a fairly high price from a local dealership to redo my brakes, both pads and rotors. I figured I'd get a second opinion, so I contacted Kadotani and got a real person on the phone who was able to give me a fair, thorough quote and a good idea on a timeframe for repairs. I just got my car back, new brakes and rotors, and they feel better than the brakes ever felt when it was brand new, no more high pitched squeaks! They did a great job explaining what my issues were and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of. All in all, repairs and parts came in way under what the dealership had quoted me, and for better/upgraded components with a much quicker turnaround time.
