I am writing this review as a concerned family member and witness to the deeply unprofessional…read moreconduct exhibited by this medical office. My brother-in-law was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. He is also on the autism spectrum, and until now--at 18 years old--had never experienced a seizure. Understandably, this has been an overwhelming and distressing situation for the entire family, particularly his parents, as seizures are now occurring twice a week despite being on the maximum dosage of his prescribed medication. Initially, our experience with Dr. Hernandez was positive. He appeared professional, attentive, and compassionate during the first few visits. Unfortunately, our trust in this practice began to deteriorate when we encountered significant issues trying to obtain authorization for emergency medication--an urgent and medically necessary request recommended by both our insurance and the pharmacy. Despite numerous messages sent via the patient portal by my mother-in-law, no one responded. She then began calling the office to follow up. On multiple occasions, when she finally got someone on the phone, she was met with dismissive and disrespectful remarks, including being told to "change your tone" and accused of being rude. I was present for one of these calls, as was my husband, and we can both confirm that she was calm and simply asking for an estimated time of approval--something any concerned parent would do in this situation. Frustrated, my husband took over the call and attempted to advocate for his brother. The front desk staff member he spoke to escalated the situation unnecessarily, even going so far as to ask him, "Where are you from?" in a hostile tone, before hanging up on him. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, discriminatory, and reflects poorly on the professionalism of the office. To answer that question: We are from America. We are also healthcare professionals ourselves. I have worked in this industry for many years--first as a medical biller, and now as a clinical director. We understand the processes, the systems, and most importantly, the standard of care patients deserve. We were recently scheduled for a follow-up appointment, which was suddenly changed to a virtual visit. We were told this would allow the doctor "more time" to discuss the treatment plan. However, when the appointment date arrived, Dr. Hernandez did not even join a virtual session. Instead, he placed a brief 15-minute phone call with my mother-in-law, during which he gave vague, unhelpful responses and failed to adequately address any of our concerns. Worse still, he effectively discharged my brother-in-law by refusing to schedule a follow-up appointment. This experience has left us appalled and disheartened. We plan to formally report this office to the appropriate regulatory bodies and share our experience to ensure other families do not go through the same distress. To the staff and leadership of this practice: Please take this feedback seriously. When families are at their most vulnerable, they deserve compassion, responsiveness, and professionalism--not indifference and hostility.

I had high hopes as I heard that Dr. Hernandez-Frau was a seizure specialist, but I was very…read moredisappointed. My husband had a brain tumor which was removed 10 months ago and he has had 4 seizures since then. We went to see Dr. Hernandez-Frau to try and see if he had some insights. On our first visit, he did take some notes but told us before he could do anything, he wanted my husband to have a 3 day brain EEG (done at home) to get a better handle on his brain waves, depending on whether insurance would approve it (they did). Our next visit we were really excited to find out the results and if anything could help my husband prevent future seizures. Dr. Hernandez, in my opinion, was totally unhelpful. He told us that the EEG showed no evidence of seizures during the 3 days (duh!), and didn't really offer us any solutions or suggestions (i.e. this medicine has worked well for patients, this diet is good for seizure patients, etc....anything helpful). All he said is that every patient is different, and he could try different medications. I finally told him I didn't know what value his service added if he had no suggestions. On the positive side, it is a beautiful office in an easy to reach location. The staff seem nice. However, I want a neurologist to help me find solutions to a problem, which in our case, didn't occur. We didn't even get any words of encouragement. Maybe he was just having an bad day, but I felt it was a total waste of our time.
