Aqua pros has helped our family. When we started we had a sensitive 4 year old daughter who was quite the dreamer. Her instructor Tim has been kind and engaging gently pushing her. 6 months later, our sensitive dreamer swam half way across the olympic sized pool. The only reason aqua pros doesn't get 5 stars is that scheduling has to be done via email or in person. They should have a web portal for this. read more

We won a month of swim lessons at a silent auction. We were informed that they were completely full and out on the waitlist. I continued to reach out about openings and was always told they were full. A year later I stopped trying to get in to a class. My son (4 years old) took a month and a half, maybe, of swim. I was not impressed. My son cannot swim, but yet they were teaching him how to rescue someone if they fall into the pool. First they put this huge buoy (twice his size) with a rope attached and put it around his shoulder and waist area. Then telling him to throw the buoy out and lay down on the ground next to the pool so he can pull the drowning person in. I felt like it was a waste of time especially since he could not even swim himself. I would want my child to come yell for help before trying to rescue the person himself. I signed my son up with Swim to John. Ten days, 10 minutes a day, and guaranteed to swim or your money back or another 10 days for free. It was a bit more money but was so worth it. You know what they say, "you get what you pay for." And when it comes to my child's life there is no amount of money too high. The best thing about swim at Aqua Pros was his instructor Danny. Been here with both my kids and it really depends on the instructor. The pool is nice and warm. Both my kids have had a number of instructors and it's really hit or miss. The makeup policy is also annoying as you have to pay a $10 scheduling fee each time. On top of a $40 annual registration fee. Other than that, prices are reasonable. I personally took some lessons as an adult and they were great. The locker and showers could use an upgrade! read more

My daughter with autism initially did well here. We thought we found a place where people were caring, supportive, and understanding of her diagnosis. A year later, I was told she was moved to a private class at a time slot they decided without asking us. The cost of private lessons is also very expensive and not in our budget. I'm honestly heart broken because this just reinforces my feelings that there are very very few places that are willing to work with my daughter in the way that she needs. Please beware of the advertising that this school is autism friendly. That was not our experience and I will be reaching out to SD autism society who endorses this company. It's false advertisement. They were more than happy to take us off the schedule when we were unhappy with the way our situation was handled. They are a money making agency after all.. read more

Aqua Pros has been our instructional pool of choice for some time now. We took some time off for the pandemic, but came back this year to resume swim lessons. The scheduling of lessons is not the most transparent process in the world. It involves messaging this general purpose email box and then waiting to have an email back and forth with that person to identify a proper day/time. Once you have that, then you don't know how many students and/or the age of those students that will be taking lessons with your child. That becomes an issue if your child is in a class with much younger or older kids that may be at the same swimming level but not at the same developmental level or vice versa. It is definitely a challenge that is not easy to work through. It would be much easier if there was a portal to schedule lessons where you could see slots that are available and how many other kids are already taking lessons during those slots. Having said all of that - the remainder of the lesson process is very straightforward, nurturing, and conducive to learning. The variety of instructors are all very positive and encouraging. There are a lot of manipulatives to aid with teaching (kickboards, floating dumbbell like swimming aids, a portable slide, and toys/rings that can be tossed into the water). The group lessons are 30 minutes for about $21 per lesson or $18 per lesson if you have more than one lesson a week, which is a great value. If you can get past the technical scheduling issues, then this is a great place for your child to take swimming lessons! read more

I've met the owner, Tammy, as well as many of her staff at the beach where they run a surf camp for youth with autism. This crew is amazing, patient, kind and skilled. Our 4-yo daughter has been taking swim lessons at Aqua Pros for over a year and we've had a great experience overall. We LOVE Miss Nicole and so does our daughter. She has not only learned so much and is on her way to become a very competent swimmer (which is such a relief as a parent!), but she talks about Nicole all the time and is always excited to see her. She's also had great lessons with other teachers, like Maya, and looks forward to class every week. Nicole is an amazing instructor - she's patient and fun and very responsive. I need to give credit where credit is due. These folks taught my son with special needs to swim in approximately 3 months time. Last summer I was filled with terror every time we were near water. This year I am amazed. He can tread water and make it across the pool. He can save his own life. For a kid with zero danger awareness, this is huge. In the beginning I was less than impressed because all of the staff are very strict. From the parking lot attendant to the front desk, it felt somewhat confrontational. My children and I were "corrected" more than once. My approach to parenting is definitely on the child-led, attachment based, "kinder gentler" side. But sometimes strict is exactly what you need. No nonsense, get the job done. They deliver exactly what they say they will and autistic/special needs or not, if that kid gets through the first couple weeks, even if they throw a fit, you will have a swimmer. We went to Clairemont Mesa BLVD in San Diego Aqua Swimming School to enroll my son in swimming lessons. Unfortunately, I came across an irresponsible employee who did not respect me as a customer at all and talked for hours on the outside with his personal phone. First, he told me to apply online, and after registration I would go to him to complete my son's registration process. I immediately registered online and went back to him to do the registration work, but regardless of me and my time, he started talking on the phone. Although he saw me waiting for him, he did not pay any attention and talked on his personal phone for more than half an hour. read more

The instructors are GREAT and our son loves his lessons with them, especially Nicole. But.......dealing with Aqua Pros is like dealing with your technically illiterate uncle that doesn't know how the internet works. They don't answer the phone and only have an automated voicemail service so you can't call and talk to anyone. It actually even asks you to send an email to their "Hotmail" email address. If you do leave a voicemail they call you back from a blocked number, so like any normal person, you don't answer it only to find out that it was Aqua Pros from them leaving a voicemail. So then you're stuck calling back the automated voicemail to start the same viscous cycle over again. Suggestions for Aqua Pros - Answer the phone like a real company, get a real email address, and don't return company calls from a blocked number. read more

My son was in the level one group class for a few months. Instructors are disorganized and the entire place seems overbooked. I started timing the actual activity time received during a 30 minute class (not waiting at the side of the pool for his turn) and it never broke 10 minutes, even when there was only one other kid with him. As for actual instruction it was even less. There are some good instructors but many take breaks to talk to other instructors during the class. Overall the group class is a waist of money especially at the peek times. read more

My kids have been going to Aqua Pros since my daughter (now 4.5) was 5 months. Is it the fastest-teaching swim school? No. But do my kids love it? Yes. Are the instructors caring, attentive, and phenomenal? Yes. And the staff retention rate seems high, which really speaks to the school. At one point, we almost stopped coming with the thought that we would try something more vigorous, but then we decided we needed to stay because the kids have so much fun. Every weekend, they get excited for this class. They absolutely love the water and they are indeed learning. Plus, the instructors seem to genuinely care about my kids. I also like that the instructors seem to have a close-knit community amongst themselves. So kudos to Aqua Pros any many more years watching one another grow. read more

Can't stand places that don't know what customer service means. I've been trying to schedule lessons for over a month now, registered online like they requested. My son went for his first trial now dont think I'm crazy but shouldn't the instructor listen to the parents on what the needs of the child are especially if the child is severely autistic. My son was so excited and trusting strangers in the water,now why when my son is non verbal and I had explained can not swim and timmed of holding his breath would the take my son to six feet ( my son is 9year's old) and try to explain for him to jump and he goes under. If they listened I said he was unaware of danger. Aqua Pros is awesome, and Ms. Maya is a miracle worker! My 4yo had been very averse to water getting in her eyes, to the point that even showers and baths are difficult. In past swim lessons elsewhere and visits to pools and beaches, she always vehemently refused to get her head in the water. We started at Aqua Pros, and in the first 5 minutes of the first lesson, Ms. Maya had her head/eyes in the water! She now loves swimming and has no problem swimming with and without goggles. Also, in just a couple of months, my kid has acquired a lot of skills and can doggie paddle, swim crawl (without the breathing), kick, tread water, float on her back, dive down and retrieve toy from bottom, jump from the deck and then swim back to the deck. Unfortunately, Ms. Maya went back to her day job at the end of summer, so we moved to another teacher, and after her last lesson with her, my daughter proclaimed, "I will always remember Ms. Maya!" As a big swimming enthusiast myself, I'm so happy my daughter loves swimming too, and Aqua Pros has enabled her to overcome her fear of water in the eyes. We can barely get her out of the pool when the lesson is over! read more

They care, and the 3 kid per class limit is ideal, but it's sort of chaos in the pool as there are two or three classes going on at the same time in each lane. The price is definitely reasonable. The major drawbacks include parking as that's a nightmare, and the locker rooms are pretty gross. The showers in the women's locker room don't work, so it's easier to wrap you kid, and run them home for a shower. read more

My son is almost 5 and started going to Aqua Pros almost 8 months ago. He has dealt with major fear of the water which has interfered with his learning to swim, even though we started him when he was 7 months old. Somewhere around 18 months he developed this fear while taking lessons elsewhere. We tried lessons at both the YMCA and Noonan, and he hated both. He finally found a teacher he loves in Ms Saison at Aqua Pros and we are so grateful to have found her. He is still learning to swim, but he is making progress now that he has mostly overcome his fears. read more

This swim school is an unorganized chaotic mess! It's not particularly clean (I didn't even want to use the changing rooms or bathrooms there after the first time)They don't even have a phone that they answer! Everything is done through email and the back and forth and slow, confusing and RUDE responses are just ridiculous! Particularly ANNE WITTE a "customer service agent" who sent me the rudest email I have ever received. During our 4 lessons that my friend and I signed up for with our young babies-we had 3 different teachers between us. One was a young girl who had barely finished training, who spent the whole class telling us "there wasn't much we could teach the babies as they're so young". Why offer classes to babies from 2 months old if you claim there is nothing to teach them?! They will happily take your money but can't think of anything to teach them ? The only decent teacher there is Miss Joy. I did enjoy our classes with her. But the admin side and the risk of getting another teacher is just not worth going here! There are plenty of other schools in San Diego-don't waste your time, patience or money! read more

Both of my children have been attending Aqua Pros for three months now in their special Autism program. Our instructor Kerri is very nice and very good with both children. I don't notice any odd smell in the facility and I would suggest the issue people have with the water is that this is a saline pool so different than what is used to, this is also the reason for the 'slimy' feel of the water. For their first session there was a behavior specialist who came out and worked with the instructor. She hasn't been back but I think that's because it's not been needed. My 6 year old daughter, who has autism, is swimming very well and is now very comfortable in the water. My 4 year old son, who also has autism, is getting more and more comfortable and working with getting the water on his head/face. I highly recommend this program for special needs families. There is quite a long wait for the special program. Even if you are just considering it please contact the Autism Society San Diego and get on the list b/c it will be several months. My only complaint (and it's not a REAL complaint) is that I wish my kids had their lessons at the same time, as it is one after the other I have to try and keep one child busy while the other is having lessons and it's not that easy. My only other issue is with some of the other parents. When I go to change my 4 year old son in the ladies locker room (and I have my 6 year old DAUGHTER with me too at the time), I get dirty looks and the other moms hold towels up in front of their little 3 year old girls... give me a break. read more

When my autistic daughter almost drowned last fall, I signed her up for the scholarship that the Autism Society offers through Aqua Pros. It took about 6 months to get her in and I knew she would be a challenge to get her to work with a trainer. She was very anxious about water and is always resistant to new people and situations. But I was super impressed with how the trainer, Mr. Drew, handled her and how he gained her trust over the 3 months. Pretty soon the problem was that she didn't want to get out of the pool! The scholarship the Autism Society offers through Aqua Pros is an awesome opportunity for special needs families. There is no way I could afford one on one sessions for my daughter for 3 months, and the continuity of having sessions twice a week is great. During sessions you pretty much just sit and watch the kids (which is entertainment in itself) so I got to observe the different classes they have. All the trainers are very good with the kids and I especially liked the infant classes. I saw a review about how the babies are dipped too much and some kid crying a lot, but I sat there twice a week for 3 months and I saw nothing but smiles and giggles. I think what Aqua Pros and the Autism Society are doing is wonderful and me and my family is very thankful that my Charlotte got the chance attend. read more

My daughter has been a happy swimmer at Aqua Pros for a year now. She loves it and looks forward to her lessons. She has had two different teachers: Ashley and Tara- both are great with her! The water is always a nice warm temperature. The place is relatively clean (the locker rooms could be cleaner). They have little goodies around the holidays, for mother's day I got some scented bath salts. The staff are friendly and helpful! I plan to enroll my two year old just as soon as he gets over the crapping in the bathtub phase that he is in. Soon I hope. I have the cleanest bathtub on the block. read more

I like aquapros, my son has been going here since he was almost 6 months old. We just do the playgroup classes. There are some negatives. The school doesn't have a phone line that gets answered.. you have to leave a message and they call you back. The under water photos are done a max of once a year, and haven't been done since we've been there- which really stinks as my baby is getting older, and the pictures would have been really cool when he was tiny. They don't even know the next time they will get done, as the owner is the one that does them, and she's really busy? The class is the same thing from week to week. I believe this is generally the same in the full price classes too. It's more something fun for my baby to do every week then actual lessons. They do the same series of songs and games for 30 minutes each class. It can get pretty crowded in the play group classes. Other than that stuff, aquapros is great! I also extensively looked into Noonan and Callan. All schools in the SD area had some serious negatives. Aquapros does a free intro swim lesson, so it's easy to check it out first. I guess I only gave 3 stars, and not 4 because of the pictures- that makes me grumpy. read more

ok.. so far I'm a fan... but we are only two classes into it so I will definitely update it again later on after my daughter has been attending longer. My daughter is 16 months old. We came for the free intro class about a month ago to check it out. My husband is taking the class with her and I came to watch. Overall it was a good experiences at the preview, so we obviously wanted to sign up. The wait?? - omg.. took about a month to finally score a Saturday mid-morning class. whoot. It just worked out better for our schedule so it was worth the wait. I think $60 a month is reasonable and pretty much compareable to elsewhere in SD anyhow, so no biggie. The instructor for both the preview and her permanent class now were both nice and informative. We leaned more towards Aqua pros, because we really wanted her to learn in a saline pool. I didn't particularly find any odd smell in the facility as others have posted.... smelled like a normal enclosed pool environment to me! there's definitely a lot of people there though! many different classes going on at once and they run every half hour, so its just busy busy. Lots of seating in the parent viewing area though. There are three showerheads off to the side for people to rinse off... and various changing tables around the facility edges to change your little one. I like that the water is kepted warm... but my daughter is still shivering once she gets out... especially now that we are entering the fall season. A 30 minute class is just about right. All three of my autistic children love attending the pool parties here and have also taken part in the very excellent surf camp they offer in conjunction with the Autism Society San Diego. Tammy and her staff are patient, accommodating, and understanding, and we feel very lucky to have her here in San Diego. We have been attending weekly since my son (now almost 8) was 19 months old. Ha had great instructors during his time here. My daughter has been attending since she was 12 months and will be five in a few weeks. In four years she has only had 3 instructors! Recently her swimming has taken off. I wouldn't classify either of my children as a swim instructors dream, as they have both gone through periods where they refused to even get in the pool at around 2.5, but each instructor was able to work them through it rather quickly. My only complaint and it's a biggie, is parking. In recent months we have had to park far away, almost at the next light and we are often either just making it to class or a few minutes late. The parking lot is a nightmare and few families follow the rules. There is a lot of double parking that goes on and blatant disregard for those of us who follow the rules. I wish the staff would go back to being out there to retrieve the children if parents can't park. It would alleviate the lateness. Thank you! read more

We have been bringing our kids to Aquapros for 6 years: since our oldest was three months old. We had 3 kids in 3 different levels this year. Unfortunately we recently left the area but what a great school. My kids were water safe from the time they were two and I could relax with them around pools. All the teachers were wonderful. Switched to aqua pros swimming lessons due to ease of keeping the same time/day. Good teachers but facility is a bit dated/cramped. Still just fine & very convenient to keep your kid in same day/time each month. I used to go to Toby Wells YMCA in Clairemont which is a great facility but requires me to sign up for the same lessons every month & it's 1st come 1st serve. I'm too busy to wait for the Y to open up the next month's classes & hope it doesn't fill up. read more

My son is on the spectrum but very high functioning almost like you can't tell. We have been coming here since just before thanksgiving. He has learned a lot and still has so much more to learn to become a good swimmer. I would totally recommend this facility to other parents. They are kind and patient and my son loves coming. The only thing I don't like is they don't answer there phone do you have to either leave a message or email to contact them. They do respond pretty promptly but still wish they would have an office where they could answer the phone. The only reason I am not continuing services as I finally moved back to north county and it's time to find something in my area :) read more

We love this school! Swim school is expensive no matter where you do it. The best part? We can take the kids for a swim anytime during the week. Yes, sure, you're stuck in the parts of the pool where lessons aren't being held, but it's really nice to be able to spend more time with them in the water, helping the kids practice their lessons between the actual lessons. I find that my kids learn far faster here because of my being able to take them to the pool between lessons. We've found that we really like the teachers here - they push the kids but make the lessons fun, too. They don't focus on "water safe" as much as other places, too, which, in my opinion is GOOD. I want my children to learn how to SWIM, not doggie paddle, etc. It takes longer, but once we're done, they're going to be far better off. Plus, I don't think any kid under 10 is "water safe" no matter what. read more
