The lessons are well-structured and individualized and we've been amazed at how much confidence our child has gained in the water. A special thank you to Kassie, who has been an absolutely phenomenal swim instructor. She is patient, encouraging, and has such a natural ability to connect with young children. She makes every lesson fun while still challenging our child to build new skills and confidence. It's clear she genuinely cares about each swimmer's progress, and we've looked forward to every class with her. We highly recommend Callan Swim School to any family looking for high-quality swim instruction. We are so grateful for Kassie, and all of the Callan swim school staff and the positive impact they have had on our child's swimming journey!

Next day around 10 am, Melissa called, saying she had our booking planned, and she had a lifeguard for our party. She told me that my lifeguard was going to call me, ( he did within 5 minutes), and that she would sent the PayPal link. I payed and confirmed with her over the phone. My lifeguard arrived 15 minutes before the set time, and was ready to go to work. He was very nice to the kids, and didn't even want to grab a bite or a drink, we offered him. I saw him always engaged looking at the kids in the pool. Never saw him looking elsewhere. I am very impressed by the professional service they delivered, and wouldn't think twice to hire them again.

She explained things clearly, adjusted her approach when something wasn't clicking, and always made sure I felt safe before pushing me a little further out of my comfort zone. Thanks to her encouragement and skill, I'm swimming -- something I genuinely thought might never happen for me as an adult. I'd recommend Emmanuella to anyone, especially those of us who came to this later in life with some fear to work through. We love the pool, obstacle course, and amenities (showers, etc). We arrive at opening and always find parking. Here's why I'm giving 3 stars and may not renew my pass for next year. The fun you have is dependent on who is on staff that day. I don't know what happened between this year and last, but this year is not great. Some lifeguards and people at the desk are so rude. On one hand, I'm sympathetic because I know these jobs can be seasonal and you have to train new people, deal with customers, safety, etc, etc. But they create so much confusion and then they're rude when you follow the rule someone else on staff gave you. Then you tell them another person told you to do that and they act like you pulled this info out of your own butt. Last time I was there, I was going back and forth from the pool to the desk because the lifeguard and desk staff couldn't agree on whether my kids needed wristbands. Like I said, if this is just confusion between newer staff, that's fine, I feel for you. But they were both SO rude about it and were getting annoyed with me ‍ This is just the recent example, but it's now probably half our visits that there's some weird triangulation between me and two staff members telling me different things. There are some people who work here that are awesome and friendly. When they do swim tests, they speak clearly to the kids and give instructions/expectations clearly. They're straightforward and friendly when we check in. I think he might be a manager (he wears the pit vipers and has facial hair), he's super friendly although I don't see him that much any more. Sorry I don't know their names, but always relieved when they're there (and coincidentally they all seem to be on the same page with the rules/expectations ).

From unlearning the bad swim habits I had (thought I knew how to swim from doing sessions with different coaches! LOL) to learning the right ways, she's guided me with a lot of enthusiasm and patience! Observing her back then coaching other adults, everyone can really tell how knowledgeable and confident but humble she is at what she's doing. And now that I am actually learning through her, in every step, it inspires me to do a lot more! You will really see the improvement after every lesson. Kristina is a coach you wouldn't want to let go of! She will accommodate and is very flexible with whatever is comfortable for your learning and speed -- no pressure at all! There's a lot more to say about how wonderful she is but tell you, she's not just a big mentor but also a great person. Swim with her and you'll see what I meant. :)

I started swimming for exercise a few months ago after higher impact activities weren't working for my body anymore, and I quickly noticed I had no idea what I was doing, even though I'd learned how to swim as a kid. I felt like I was flailing around in the pool, couldn't swim for more than 15 minutes without feeling exhausted, and couldn't breathe correctly. Basically I could survive in the pool, but thriving wasn't even a possibility. After only a few lessons with Kristina, I feel more confident, I'm understanding how to breathe without freaking out, and I'm becoming more aware of how my body moves in the water. I've even worked my way up to swimming for about an hour, because I'm learning how to swim more efficiently. Kristina is an excellent teacher, and she makes the lessons enjoyable, approachable, and 100% worthwhile. She takes an individualized approach to teaching and offers useful feedback in a kind, compassionate way. I'm looking forward to continuing to work with Kristina, and I highly recommend her coaching, whether you're just learning to swim or you're already an aquatic badass and want to get even better.

Traveled from NYC to get my 5 year old into swimming. This was his first lesson ever. Yes he cried as the website warns you for the first 2-3 days. By day 4 he didn't want to get out of the pool! He was already doing the breast stroke by week 1 and he did drop drills where he swam to a ledge to get safe. It was hard to get him out of the pool after our last lesson. John and Kimber are amazing. Don't waste time second guessing and just book the sessions! My only regret is that we didn't start sooner. I'll likely bring my son back next year for advanced lessons!

We first brought our daughter to John June 2025 to learn how to swim to safety if she ever fell in the pool. We didn't have a lot of swim time last year but she came back remembering everything and in 10 days was swimming breaststroke. Still in AWWW. We did a second course because we're heading to a vacation home with a pool and no fence. This refresher gave me a lot of peace of mind. We have two older boys (now 13 and 10), and we've done private lessons, group classes... everything when they were 4. We spent way more time and money and I still didn't feel confident in their swimming. He breaks everything into steps and uses one-word cues and the kids instantly know what to do. You can literally see the muscle memory building and it just becomes natural. He genuinely cares about safety - that's the foundation of everything he does. Bottom line: 10 minutes a day for 10 days and my 4-year-old is swimming. Simple, effective, and pretty amazing to see. Highly recommend. You can see the difference

It's a very no-frills spot: small locker room, showers, very minimal seating on the pool deck, and a dedicated 1-3 lanes for lap swim. For $4 for ~2 hours, it's a pretty darn good deal. I will say that the pool isn't in the best condition. You can tell there's been a lot of wear and tear. I also don't love that there are open deep gutters along the permitter, making it difficult to get in/out of the pool. Overall, not a bad pool, but not a great pool. I had stopped by the desk in person to ask someone about this about a month prior. They said that for a group of our size, we should make a reservation. I asked the cost and determined it was too expensive for our troop. I asked if we could just all show up at the same time and pay the admission fee. They said that was fine but that they would appreciate a heads up. So I gave the date and time and told them I'd call again when I had a headcount. I called on 8/11 with a headcount. No one picked up, so I left a message with my name and phone number. I called again on 8/17 and talked to someone. I gave my name and number, a brief run-down of our situation, the date and time we intended to come and a headcount of around 25. The woman was very kind and told me they would have no trouble accommodating our group. I asked if it would be possible for our girls to use the diving board and she said they should have enough lifeguards to supervise that. I arrived 15 minutes early on Saturday 8/19 to find out there was a swim meet going on! They weren't even open to the public at the time I asked about! I called the front desk from my car (because I couldn't find a parking spot) and the person said, "Yeah, so we can't accommodate your group today because we have a swim meet." I was livid! Here I was with 2 little girls in my backseat and 20 other people arriving in 10 minutes, and we had nowhere to swim. The person I talked to kept giving excuses and passing the blame to other people. "We didn't have your number." (Yes you did. I left a message.) "Oh, well, we never got that message." I eventually talked to a manager. I explained the situation. He said that I should have asked to talk to a manager. (I DID talk to a manger when I stopped by the front desk in person.) "Oh, that was probably the other manager. He didn't tell me about it. For a group your size, you really need to make a reservation." (I already explained that our troop couldn't afford the reservation fee. And you could have told us previously that you wouldn't be able to accommodate us without a reservation, rather than misleading us to believe that our troop could go swimming today.) I asked if our group could swim after the swim meet. "No, because we only have 1 lifeguard on duty today. So we can't have more than 25 people in the pool at a time. And we're at capacity." I sent a group message to the troop, the beginning of which read, "I am so, so sorry. I don't know how to say this, but Clairemont Community Pool has kind of screwed us over...." And then I explained everything. Nearly everyone in our troop was either arriving at the pool or on their way when I sent this message. Our troop is a pretty amazing group of people and they were all so understanding and patient. I drove around a bit and called other pools and looked for somewhere else we could swim. Our troop did get to swim at the Swanson Memorial Pool for a few hours. I explained the situation to that pool's staff and they were very kind and helpful. Our girls had a great time, so happy ending!
