Started lessons during the pandemic. They only used one lane of the pool broke into two sections. That's a lot of kids together at one time. I've asked about it since the rest of the pool is empty and I was brushed off. My child has not moved up a level and we are ready to move on to a different facility. Some instructors are great and others are meh. We won't be back. I'm editing after the post from the owner. When there's a constant rotation of instructors and no communication is why my son never moved up. He moved up quite quickly at a different swim school. read more

I should have read reviews about the quality of instructors before signing up. My daughter, who has had lessons in the past and has a fear of water, was in class this evening when her teacher, Erin, told another teacher "this child is 8, she should know how to do all of this already". IN FRONT OF MY CHILD AND THE OTHER CHILDREN. Advice for this place - have the teacher have a conversation with new families and the child directly quickly before a first lesson. Establish yourself as a professional, caring human up front who has the best interest of your students in mind. Don't talk crap about the child in front of them. Plus, the pool is cold, and the lane lines were floating all wonky in my child's section. Isn't that a safety hazard? We have been going there for a ovee 3 yrs but just had the most horrible experience with them . My daughters class was moved despite being in this class for over 6 months to different time because other kids ( siblings ) wanted to be in this class without our consent . Never got a call from the manager Victoria to discuss either . Definitely felt discriminated against when we have been such loyal customers for so long . Mind you, if you don't have a bunch of kids they will herd your kid wherever they want without asking you ! Will not recommend going to atleast this location. What a disgrace! read more

Lessons can feel a bit rushed sometimes but I understand trying to fit all the necessary skills in to a 30 min timespan with toddlers is a difficult undertaking. If you can't make a class and cancel at least 2 hours early they give you a makeup that doesn't expire which is nice. We started with Sammi for the first few months and she was great. We ended up having to change our scheduled class due to my daughter's nap time shifting and are with Searra now who is excellent! The first few minutes of class are a struggle for our daughter but she's always so patient. She's great at building trust with the children which makes things easier. Some of the instructors we've had for makeup classes and as substitutes are hit or miss, a lot of the newer instructors (you can tell because they don't have a photo in the app) have been a miss. One would slowly lower our daughter underwater at the end of a countdown instead of a more sudden dunk that was needed to stop them from inhaling water. In the 8 months we've been going I've noticed a lot of progress! read more

We have been coming to Aqua Tots Troy for almost 2 years. Coach Sammie has been our two year old daughter's swim instructor since we started. She is amazing, truly kind and patient with all the babies and toddlers and gives excellent instruction and feedback. When watching her class, older kids are always walking by and get super excited when they see her in the pool too. Our daughter is so happy when she hears her name even at home and lights up once she sees her when we walk into the building. My son has been here for 6 years and we have loved it but since Covid hit it has kinda gone downhill! He is in level 6 and there are so many instructors in and out because they are in high school or college and I'm just not sure that many have the know how to teach some of these classes! My son was on his way to graduate level 6 a month ago but we had to switch days for a schedule conflict and since his aqua card has had no improvement in over a month! Also the price has gone up 2x in a couple month span which is crazy!! They are now only $1 cheaper then goldfish! Prices have been raised but there is still no end of class feedback like there was before Covid! Iv had instructors forget to send my sons aqua card and I have had my sons aqua card give the same exact homework every week! I don't really know why I'm paying so much for services that seem to be going down! read more

My daughter been going here for almost a year and she loves it. The employees are very nice every time I'm here and the teachers are excellent. My daughter has learn a lot here and I would recommend anyone that have a baby to this place to learn how to swim. My only negative point is the dressing rooms wish they had just alittle but more sometimes when it's busy it takes awhile to get a room it other then that great place. When I first signed up I found the staff to be very professional and on their game. However, when went in for my son's first class, the registration process was very rushed and I found the staff to be aloof. They basically looked and acted like they did not want to be there. Also, I found the first class to be a bit rushed and a bit disorganized. Even though my son and I we're the only people in the class, I did not feel that the instructor did a good enough job explaining how the class would go forward. That said; the instructor was very kind and patient. Also, the facilities War very clean and the setup was great for allowing family members to watch the classes. My son almost drowned!! The instructor watched my 3 year old son thrash under water fighting for his life. Then when I confronted the instructor about it he said "he went before it was his turn so i had to left him feel it" That is the stupidest most irresponsible thing I've ever heard or seen. read more

My kids absolutely love this place they were able to accommodate me and my request for my daughter's birthday and they also offer open swim and swimming lessons the pool is always warm and for me I'm really picky about my pool water and it resembled bathtub warm which in my eyes is the way all pools should be. I don't believe the pool is any deeper than four and a half feet. The dressing rooms are always clean and they even offer blow dryers and a huge space to do your hair and makeup for when you get out. read more

I enrolled my kid in swim class here a few months ago and he has really enjoyed it. The staff is very friendly. As others have mentioned, they keep the pool warm which is a plus when you have little ones that get cold easily. The business runs like a well oiled machine. They have tons of classes going with tons of kids every half an hour. This seems like it would be a negative...but somehow they make it work. There is ample seating for parents and a cute little play area for before/after class. My son never gets tired of it! The 3 year old classes teach basic skills like back float, submerging their heads, breath control, jumping in and turning to reach for the wall, etc. The teachers have all been fantastic. My children are very hesitant around water and so we took a tour at Aqua Tots Troy to see if it would be a good fit for them. At the tour we were told that the instructors were all certified and experienced with children of all ages who were afraid of water, who get upset at lessons, etc. We felt comfortable after the tour and signed up for a free trial lesson. At the trial lesson today, my sons were both upset and nervous. Things escalated, with my one son becoming very upset and crying. He was waving at me, very upset, and I wound up pulling him out of the class. Caitlin at the desk was kind, and we talked about trying again. However, when we went into the changing rooms, my son told me that his instructor, James, told him for every time he waved at me frantically or said he was drowning, he would MAKE him go under water again. This is a disgusting way to "teach" a scared child. The only thing my son learned today was to be afraid of the water, and afraid of James who tried to use threats to control him. I reported this to the front desk and will be calling the corporate number as well. read more

My daughter and I go here for her swimming classes. She's in the first level since she's still a toddler which means I swim with her. The teachers are great (we especially love Liz!) and the classes are only 30 minutes so it's not to long, not to short. The changing areas and bathrooms are always clean and they have a little toy area for the kids/siblings to play while they wait. Also plenty of seating and wifi for the parents while they wait. I find all the girls at the desk to be really helpful and will assist you with anything you need. I can't really speak to the prices because the classes are a gift from my mother in law, but I imagine they are reasonable. read more

Varying combinations of our three children have been taking lessons here for almost 2 years and we've been pleased. The front staff is very friendly and makes a habit of greeting everyone by name. The water is bathtub warm, which is awesome. We like the small classes and appreciate the wide range of class days and times available for each level. We have never had an issue finding classes to fit our schedule, and even with 3 kids in 3 different levels, we were always able to get classes at the same time or at most back to back (ex: 4pm for levels 2&3, 4:30 for level 5). The max class size is 4 children, but as I type this my child is essentially getting a private lesson because I guess the other students are sick or maybe changed times. We have never had them cancel on us just because the class had only one child, although typically the classes have 2-4 children. The school seems comparable to Goldfish in price and set up, though I haven't used Goldfish. The major reason we chose Aqua-tots over Goldfish is because when we signed up, I had a child who was 3, so a bit too old for the parent-child classes, but he was nervous about separating. I knew another friend who had just started going to one of the Goldfish locations and they wouldn't let her get in the pool with her child who was having the same issue. She was told that he could cry and after a few times it would be fine. His first class she paid for and he wouldn't even get in. I called the owner of Aqua-tots, Annette, to find out how they would handle it if our child had this problem and she assured me they would work with us and they absolutely didn't want a child crying and feeling upset. They ended up putting our 3 year old in what they called a level 2.5 class, which isn't listed in their info. (levels 1 & 2 are parent-tot and level 3 begins independent lessons). The parents could get in the water but they worked with the child and parent to reach the goal of parent not being there. However, it was done at the child and parent's pace, and gradually. So at first my husband went in the water, then after a couple lessons he would sit with feet in the water, then later sit on a bench nearby but inside the pool area, and finally in a chair with the other parents just on the other side of the glass. There was another time where the instructor pushed our kids a bit too past their comfort level and our kids didn't tell the instructor they weren't comfortable, but instead started refusing to go to lessons. Annette arranged for our kids to have 1:1 "play dates" in the water with their instructor instead of classes, until they were more comfortable again. read more

My family (3 year old and 10month old) attended thie family swim time on friday nights. The facility was great, the water was warm, and the staff was friendly. However, I wouldn't consider this "family swim". It was more of an open swim time for children, most of whom had little to no adult supervision. I have been to other establishments for thier family swim and did not have this problem. We will not be attending the family swim nights again. read more

The two star is all management related, the swim class instructors were really great and it was very fun to watch my 2 year old take lessons but as soon as cold weather arrived my daughter started to shake uncontrollably in the water. I figured October would be our last month and so I waited till mid October to go up to the desk and tell them I wanted to stop till warmer weather arrived. I was told "we have to charge you for November still because we have a 30 day policy". I have never heard of such a long time frame for a cancellation, I mean people at their Full-time jobs can give a 2 weeks notice, and this is just a swim lesson for my daughter. Even after I explained how much my daughter is shivering the woman just shook her head and said "We'll still charge your card and you can use those classes next spring." They were just dead set on charging me which is all I felt this manager cared about was $, not the best feeling when you are placing your child in their care. She had no understanding at all. I wasn't trying to jip them or anything and had full intent on staying with aqua-tots, but after such an unpleasant experience with the woman who I assume is the manager I will not be returning and will be looking elsewhere for swim classes. Just be forewarned, if you have any intention of stopping classes they will not budge for any reason. Very disappointed. read more

Buyer beware: their cancellation policy requires a 30 day notice which is ridiculous. Moreover, their customer service is terrible. We called to reschedule a class. When we showed up on the new day / time THEY gave us, no one was there to teach our son. We had driven 20 miles for nothing. We asked to talk to the owner (who was offsite) and she refused to talk to us on the phone until we kept asking. And then all we wanted was a refund since THEY couldn't provide the class we had paid for. They kept refusing to give us a refund and were very rude about it. Finally we kept persisting and they finally said they would give us a refund but only if we left. They have lost a customer for life. read more

The instructors are good. But the pool size is a joke and the girls running the front desk and scheduling can do a better job. May be this is a good starting point for 2 or 3 year olds. But not for any kid older than that. If you live in Troy MI, then definitely try the Troy Continuing Education (troyce) Swim lessons or the swim lessons at Troy Recreation Center. They cost half of what this place charges and the pools they use are real pools. Plus these people charge you next month if you don't give a one month notice before you stop. Why is that? I just did a trial class at this location and they were amazing with my little three year old. I was really nervous he wasn't going to adjust but I could tell the instructor was very good with the kids and made my child feel very comfortable. RUN!!!! My kid started lessons at this facility over 6 months ago. This was the biggest waste of money EVER!!! We recently took a vacation and he almost drowned, she had not learned a thing in at all!! Do not send your kid here because of the name. Sure, they accommodated us to the fullest trying to get us to stay but it's the biggest gimmick ever! Now if u want to toss money away by all means do what u must, at least the pool is 90 degrees!!!
