I'm extremely disappointed and hurt by the way my family was treated at both the Livonia and Troy…read moreRec Centers. My son met the 42-inch height requirement and has safely enjoyed similar attractions before, yet we were still made to feel uncomfortable and singled out throughout our visit. What upset me the most was watching my son cry after getting hurt, and instead of showing concern or compassion, staff looked at him, walked away, and laughed with another coworker. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable to witness. No child should ever be treated with such disregard, especially when they are visibly upset and crying. Throughout the visit, my children both older and younger were watched excessively, which made us feel targeted instead of welcomed. As a Black family, the treatment we experienced raised serious concerns about bias and discrimination. I fully understand the importance of safety rules, but rules should be enforced respectfully and equally for everyone. Families come to these facilities to feel safe and enjoy time together, not to feel humiliated, ignored, or judged. I will be contacting the district and administration for both facilities to formally report these experiences and seek accountability. I hope steps are taken to ensure no other family or child is made to feel this way again.

My daughter has been taking lessons here for a few months and she has made a big improvement in her…read moreswim skills. The instructors are all very kind and welcoming. I can tell that her confidence has grown along with her swimming skills from taking these classes. She started in the bright blue level and has already moved up to big blue. The staff gives you updates on their progress after every lesson in the mobile app. The facility has plenty of seating to watch your swimmer and is brightly lit. There are many changing rooms, (including changing rooms with infant changing tables in them) and plastic bags for wet items. Anyone can sign up for swim lessons, from babies to adults who need help learning!

He only did this class 3 times, then they suggest he move up already to the independent classes with no parent in the water with them. This made us nervous, as he just turned 3. He moved up, did ok at first, then had a hard time waiting his turn, and would splash around, etc. I asked if it was too soon to move him up classes, they said no. Well after only 3 classes, they banned him from the place for 3 months, and said we would have to start over in the parent/child class after the 3 month leave. The instructors have no patience, so if you have a young child who is not perfect 100% of the time, this place will kick you out. They do not work with you to make things better, or simply just move back a class. I would not recommend this place to anyone. To kick a 3 year old out and refuse to teach them to swim is horrible, for just acting like a newly 3 year old!!

How would I rate my family experience at Mott HS Pool on Monday, February 16, 2026?…read moreIf I could, I would give ZERO stars. Let me explain why. My family - my wife, I and our three grand-kids (13, 7 and 2 years old) came to the pool in the morning. Main entrance to family locker room was locked. One of two changing rooms was locked. But it was not the worst. When my 2 years old granddaughter under my wife supervision was playing with her small (3 inch), soft (made of rubber), floating duckling, some lifeguard came up to them. He forbade my granddaughter to play with her duckling in the pool. I've asked him: Why? He answered: Because of the pool rule - "NO TOYS IN THE POOL". I've asked him: Why? Is this toy dangerous to anyone? He rudely replayed: "Because this is the rule!" We had to take the toy from our kid. She started crying. Thus the person ruined our granddaughter's joy. I've asked him twice: What is your name? He refused to answer. Finally, I figured out his name from another person. His name is Bill. I understand that Bill hid his name because he knew that he had done something inappropriate. We used to attend the pool for more than 10 years. Before February 16 we never met such an unfriendly person in Mott High School Pool. Greg W. 79 years old

Most lessons however he was one of three or four kids, in which he received a very little instructional time and spent most of it watching others swim and sitting at the edge. I honestly wasn't a fan due to the fact that my child didn't have the personalized attention that he needed to improve his fundamentals. The plus side to these types of classes was the cost. Honestly, you get what you pay for. At Goldfish, my son has received that individualized attention. He has really come into his own in the pool. Each one of his instructors throughout his journey at Goldfish Swim School have paid close attention to his technique and have worked with him to improve. He always receives positive reinforcement for his efforts. I really enjoy the atmosphere that his instructors provide. All in all, I'm a fan of the personnel all around. The folks behind the counter are always there to lend a hand. The instructors have all been very professional and friendly. The establishment is always very clean and organized. If you're looking for a good swim school, consider this one. As always, thanks for reading. - Brian
