NZ salmon, tuna, and hamachi rolls

LOVE living so close to Aquarius. I frequent once a week and always look for the scraps tub of the NZ Salmon, it's the best bang for my buck and gets me two nights worth of sushi. You'd think I'd be perfect in rolling sushi for how often I practice, but I still suck. The fish makes up for it though. Never had a bad experience. One of the best things about SLC are these guys. If you're up for a challenge and want to save some $$$, get your fish from Aquarius and get to rolling.

This place is pretty impressive. Fresh fish from a crew who knows what they're doing. I came in for some Alaskan king, and all they had out were tail pieces. The guy at the counter goes to the cooler and comes back holding a whole 30 lb fish. He fillets it, pulls the pin bones and cuts me off a slab of the freshest fish in Utah, and gets the weight right. I don't go anywhere else for fish, and this is the reason.

This is definitely my go to place to get sushi grade salmon whenever I'm in the mood for some simple homemade sushi. I have them de-skinned, and deboned the salmon and I put them on those tiny rectangular seaweed with rice plus some wasabi on it. I personally love their new zealand king salmon although it's a little pricier than the other salmon BUT definitely cheaper than Japanese restaurants when you order a sake don i.e. raw salmon on top of a bowl of rice. Service is friendly and I like that I can go in and ask for half a pound of salmon which comes to less than $10. And with that portion, I still have some leftovers after a meal. And sometimes, when I have a little bit left, I would feed it to my neighbor kitty who always visits me and I swear that he thinks it's crack!

Fresh fish truck was just pulling up as they opened their doors to fill the case.

I almost always go here to get my fish best spot in Utah! Highly recommend especially if you want to hit Caputo's too.

Too few for my regular patronage. I'll go to Japan Sage Market for my regular Asian shopping. Yes, I'm also half Korean, but I don't do as much Korean cooking as I do Japanese. As I said, it is very small, but they pack in a lot of items. You should be able to find most Korean groceries that you need. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

My mouth is watering as I write this overdue review. Caputo's was a must-stop for us on our way out…read moreof SLC, and I really wish we had something small and family-run like this in CA. The closest store I can think of that has such a wide selection of meats and cheeses is Eataly, but that is huge (and a chain) compared to Caputo's. Originally, I found Caputo's while looking for sandwich shops, but was very very happy when I found out they also offered charcuterie meats. We didn't end up getting any cheese bc of the drive, but did choose some fancy meats to bring home (black truffle salame & cabacero iberico), which were so delicious. As for the sandwiches, I went with The Caputo while my husband went with the Old School (alas I forgot to take a photo before he devoured it). The staff were efficient and our sandwiches were ready pretty quickly, even with a small lunch rush line. When I say The Caputo was one of the best Italian sandwiches I've ever had, I mean it. The veggies were delightfully fresh, the meats were aplenty, and the olive oil + balsamic was perfect without making the bread soggy. My husband also raved about his sandwich might I add. The staff were friendly, and there is a small seating area should you wish to enjoy your sandwiches next door. We also browsed around the market area and picked up some truffles and pasta flour so I could try my hand at making homemade pasta. There was so much to look at, it was like a treasure trove, but we had to be conscious of what we truly wanted to bring home vs what caught our eyes in the moment. Caputo's will definitely be one of our first stops the next time we visit SLC!

The sandwiches are smaller, more expensive , less variety and the service was SLOW. It was 11:30 am and no lines, about 10 patrons in the whole place. Shocked to see no heavy inch traffic . I had a serving of tuna salad ($9) which was ok and $5 cheaper than a sandwich ($13). Hubby had half a Caputo Sandwich. Fountain drinks were $6!!!! There are no deli salads anymore in the sandwich shop nor in the grocery store section. All the grocery has is imported jars , hard pasta and meats. There is no longer any amazing smells of bread and spices like I've experienced in other I Italian delis and shops in many other cities. If you go there now instead of like in the "old days", which weren't so long ago. you might think it's ok but not anymore in my opinion. Tony used to be behind the counter running the show, fast service lots of people. It sucks now
