We adopted a dog from PPR during Covid. He'd been surrendered, so I asked for his medical records - which I understand is standard in such situations. The person denied having them & rushed us to take the dog and leave. This dog has had numerous medical issues, so I wonder if they were covering up something. Separately, they said he was 1-1/2 to 2 years old. We discovered later that he really was 4 years old, per the rescue's own vet. Even worse, someone changed a document we were given to falsify his age. I've seen suggestions that they're no longer in operation. If they are, I do not recommend adopting from them. read more

I had the most perfect dog of my life! She learned fast, happy pup that smiled! Such a treasure!

This is the saddest, filthiest and truly disgusting environment in which this far from "perfect" organization keeps the pets that they put up for adoption. I wouldn't place a rat in that place nevertheless a dog!!! The dogs are kept outside in a fenced yard scattered with filthy beds. The muddy filthy yard has no cover, comfort or care for the pets. A bowl with a lump of what might have been soft "food" was sitting half dried in a bowl on the muddy filthy ground. The food looked like it was there untouched for way too long to be considered nutritionally viable or safe. This Pet "Rescue" should be closed. The only reason I gave it 1 star is because there is no way to give it below zero. read more

Recently my friends (the mother in her late 80's and son who has terminal cancer) from out of town rescued a dog that was definitely not fit to be placed with this family! The dog had aggression issues and had to be put down as a result. They are heartbroken. I do not understand why they would be so ignorant to place a dog like that in their family. I'm sorry that some others have had problems. PPR posted "Cindy's" photo and write up last night. I called/left a message and emailed Nancy expressing my interest at 7:30 am and emailed the application and agreement at 8:30. At 8:33, Renee called me and made an appointment that day at 3:00 pm. They share a parking lot with a vet hospital and a groomer and it is BUSY! They had a hidden away area where we we able to hold "Cindy" who had lived the last 2 years outside of her owner's home. We loved her, no matter how nervous she was. We completed the paperwork and took her home. She was cautious when we got her home but within a couple of hours she had eaten and was napping in her new bed! Thanks PPR! read more

not trustworthy... got in contact with Nancy about a pup I was interested in adopting. went over the fee and set up the next day a time for me to meet the pup. I was so excited. (she never mentions anything about anyone else being interested in the pup). the next day we are scheduled to meet. she sends me an email 2 hrs before we are supposed to meet and tells me a "close friend" of the previous owner was interested in adopting the same pup and they were going to head over to meet the pup but she would let me know how it goes. she never updated me, I didn't see the email til I showed up on sight at around 5pm like we scheduled, I called her number because she didn't respond to my text message I sent her when I was on my way... she then tells me the same story on how a close friend came to adopt the pup and she had sent an email about it. why would the previous owners have a say in who the pup goes to if they surrendered their pup? that's no longer their dog. And why this woman would even set up something for me to come meet the cutie when there are others who have potential" first dibs" is beyond me. a phone call would've been nice. this experience was a complete waste of time and don't get your hopes up, they just pick favorites on who gets to adopt. do not recommend! read more

I'm more than happy to echo the chorus of praises for this wonderful organization. After my beloved Pomeranian, Mr. Tucker passed away, I wanted to find another Pom Pom and found a picture and description online through Perfect Pet Rescue. I drove from Moorpark to Santa Monica to see the adorable pooch and I was floored by everything. The organization in general, the caretakers as well as the dogs. Everything was extremely professional, quick, open and perfect. I loved the fact that they truly put the dogs' welfare ahead of everything else. I even got to meet my new dog's foster mom and she was extremely forthcoming and honest about his behavior, training and personality. She was right on the money and I appreciate this level of personal service. Ultimately I ended up taking Donner (now Kirby) home and he is simply the sweetest and best dog ever. He goes motorcycle riding with me, camping, on road trips and we're a nearly inseparable team. I truly found my perfect pet at this rescue - my Curtis (named Alvin when I adopted him.) This rescue is very up front about the behavior of the pets they adopt to you - wanting new owners to be prepared for anything that may arise. My guy was potty trained and loved all humans, but they did let me know he can be reactive to certain types of dogs. I knew that I had something small to work through with him from the get-go. The real reason for the 5 stars, however, is the support they gave me nearly 6 months after I adopted him. Curtis is a mix of a few breeds that are prone to degenerative disc disease. He had to have a pretty gnarly emergency surgery when he had 3 herniated discs that put him at risk of paralysis in his hind legs. They were very responsive to my calls, helped negotiate a shelter rate at the hospital, and even helped me out with some of the cost (it was an incredibly expensive surgery.) Thank you Nancy & team for giving me my perfect pet and support I needed through a scary time. I'm forever grateful. read more

So grateful to Perfect Pet Rescue for helping us adopt such an awesome dog! My husband & I had been looking around online for a couple months for an available dog to adopt during a certain time frame when we would have free time to devote. We'd come across several dogs featured on different websites but they were already adopted when we called. We noticed Perfect Pet Rescue was having an adoption event the following weekend and saw one dog -- advertised as a 15 lb, 4 year old, female terrier poodle mix -- that especially appealed to us. Although we were about to leave town for a week, we called PPR to inquire. They got back to us promptly and invited us to come by that same day to where the dog was being kept at the Center Sinai Animal Hospital in Culver City. (Apparently, she had been surrendered by her owner to the Carson Shelter, a high kill facility, from where PPR rescued her after just 1 night there.) In spite a very knowledgeable and experienced family member -- who volunteers with, trains, fosters and owns dogs -- advising us against adopting the first animal we saw, we felt this first dog we were seeing was the one for us! However, when we asked about waiting until after we returned from our trip, PPR told us this dog might no longer be available a week later. So, after they promised to line up one of their volunteers to board our new pooch until we got back, we went ahead and signed the papers. (The volunteer who stepped up was responsible and caring.) We daily feel grateful this doggie has turned out to be such a wonderful animal (the vet thinks she's a Havanese mix) and such an awesome addition to our family! read more

I wrote the following review a couple years ago but had by mistake posted it on a different perfect pet rescue yelp page:( Just realized---ooops! Bottom line: STILL THE BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE We saw a lovely dog on petfinder and checked out the website on the listing: perfectpetrescue.com They have photos of their adoptable dogs and a small paragraph about each. They update their website DAILY. We left a message on the number they had listed. A very sweet young lady called us back after a few hours and told us to come on down to the Center Sinai Animal Hospital in Culver city. We live in the SFValley but we headed out as soon as we got the call. This is a veterinary clinic. We introduced ourselves and they called the adoption manager who was very friendly and welcoming. We told them about the dog we had in mind that we saw on the website. She brought out the dog and quite literally we fell in love. It was just pure love right away. The staff told us that the lovely creature didn't have any time left at a high kill shelter and he was about to be put down when they rescued him. I almost cried just thinking that such a beautiful, healthy, happy dog could have been dead. The staff allowed us to walk the dog outside to a small grassy area and interact with him more. We fed him a treat and he was just amazing. This was great because we noticed that he would follow us and roll around in the grass wanting to be petted. He was social but not too agile and barely made any sound. He didn't bark at other dogs or people who passed by and he was overall just a loving dog. We were sure he was the one:D We filled out the paperwork. The application is close to 3 pages and the questions are standard such as occupation, if you're renting, if you have other animals, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. The adoption staff made a phone call to our landlord and told us that we could take the dog home with us. We were just amazed and so grateful because we couldn't imagine leaving without the little guy. The donation was $250. This included: -spay/neuter, -current on all vaccinations including rabies, -a vet check, -temperament check, -micro-chip, and national registration -Flea, Tick & De-worming treatments They provide a tag (with the perfect pet shelter phone number and the ID they gave the pet when he/she arrived at the shelter) and a small collar. They do not register the pet with the LA county, so you have to take your pet to one of the LA county shelters and register him/her for $25. You should get a personalized tag there with your pet's name, your number, and your new registered ID number. You can order one directly at one of the official LA county shelters for only $15. They let you do this once you register your dog. This is much cheaper than getting a personalized tag from one of the major pet stores. Not having a tag can get you a hefty ticket ($500 if I'm not mistaken). The law requires that every newly adopted/bought/ etc pet be registered within the first 15 days. So we paid and the adoption manager showed us all of the paperwork such as proof of vaccinations, proof that he has been fixed, microchip number etc. She also told us about the health of the dog. She said if we take our dog home and he turns out not to be healthy, their vet will check him out for free. If for any reason the adoption doesn't work out then they will take the dog back so don't take the pet some place else. Unfortunately our dog has a kennel cough (most dogs at shelters do). The shelter told us that if the cough doesn't go away in a week, they will send us antibiotics. The entire adoption process took about two hours and we were on our way. All three of us went to a pet store and bought all the essentials. We spent close to $70 and came home. We are now a happy family. I urge EVERY responsible and loving person who has the means to adopt a wonderful perfect forever friend. It's the most rewarding and exciting experience. Do some research and go into it with realistic expectations. Puppies don't always make the best pets. Our dog is social but doesn't run around all the time. He is also much more trainable. A lot of older dogs are housebroken and potty trained already so give those older dogs a chance. Perfect Pet Rescue called us two days after our adoption to check up on everything. Bentley was not the most handsome little mutt when we first got him, skinny so his backbone stuck out and balding in spots with crispy fur, but after some good nutrition he is the most gorgeous handsome boy, we get stopped on the street by people asking what kind of a dog is he, to which I reply a rescue, the best kind of dog. One of my earliest bad experiences with a rescue. I emailed regarding a particular dog as an ESA and listed specific traits I needed. The email I received in return said they thought she would be a perfect match. When I arrived there, she was anything BUT a perfect match. I wondered how well those at the top of the organization really knew the dogs... I found another potential dog and sat with her for at least an hour, filled out the application and said "when will I find out?" At which point I was told I had to adopt the dog on the spot (then why did the application require my landlord's phone number?). I wasn't comfortable with that and asked if I could foster to adopt. The volunteer said I'd have to ask the one in charge and so I emailed her. The person in charge initially said yes, I could foster. So, we went about setting a date. Within days, she changed her mind and said she wanted a stable home for the dog-as if fostering to adopt would not ensure that that was EXACTLY what the dog would get... I was wrought with stress and couldn't make a decision in which time the dog got adopted and I spiraled into depression and anxiety attacks. If rescues could just be a LITTLE more understanding to the genuine, kind people looking for the right companion, this system would work much better. read more

This rescue really is a reflection of their name! They are PERFECT!!! the adoption was simple, straight forward, and full of support. They care so much for their rescues, it should be an example to other rescues!!! They really made our home a better place with Sherlock and Watson (aka Smart and Final) !! We are so unbelievable happy with our sweet little doggie we rescued from Perfect Pet Rescue. We decided after 7 years without a canine in our lives that it was time to get a dog. We knew we wanted to rescue a dog, not a puppy, so we started looking around. We went to the local shelter and a few other rescue organizations around town. While we saw some great dogs, the people running the rescue organizations wanted long pages of applications filled out, home visits, interviews with family members, personal references and our philosophy of owning a dog. Ok, I get that they want these dogs to go to a good home but COME ON! Really? I found Perfect Pet Rescue and spoke to Nancy on the phone for about 15 minutes. She was awesome and said she had the perfect dog for us. I took my two sons over and she was right! We fell in love with our doggie immediately. We stayed for a long visit, took him for a walk and came back to get him the next evening! He had a little bout of Kennel cough which we were given medication for and at my son's insistence he was given an ex-ray to make sure he didn't have pneumonia. All of this was included in the small donation we gave them for the adoption. Cindy was so helpful through this whole process and called to check on us a few times the first couple of days. Prince Harry could not be more loved by my four boys and he is my constant companion. We are so lucky to have found the sweetest smartest dog in the world. Thank you!!!! read more

Very effective, efficiently-run dog rescue. I adopted my beloved Indy from Perfect Pet, and recommended them to three others who happily adopted from them as well. I was a first-time dog owner, and found Perfect Pet's process to be straightforward and fair. I was initially turned down for a purebred Pomeranian, who went to someone who had owned the breed before. Made sense - that pup went to the right person. I'm so happy with the sweet little girl I eventually brought home - who does not need expensive, regular grooming like the Pommie would have. PPR referred me to a trainer when I had concerns (my dog was scared of other dogs), and the advice I got was sound. I followed her instructions and Indy was fine. Out of curiosity I checked out the Downey shelter's website - where PPR pulled my dog from - and was horrified at what I saw. The shelter had too many pages to click through. Too many dogs. Overpopulated. Dogs that were in terrible condition (starved, covered in mange, injured) upon intake. I am so grateful PPR truly rescues dogs from this high-kill shelter. I have been wanting to adopt a dog for a couple years, but didn't really think I would do it, until Perfect Pet Rescue! Every weekend they bring their dogs to Montana ave in Santa Monica to share with the public what dogs need a new home. At the time I worked on Montana ave so every break I had was spent with the doggies! One of those dogs turned out to be the one I rescued! From day one since the actual adoption all the girls there have been so nice and readily available anytime you need something or just have questions. The dog I adopted turned out to have some rare medical condition that no one knew anything about. When we told the ladies at the rescue that we were told our dog had some kind of neurological problem, they immediately offered all the help they could! They even offered to pay for all his exams and treatments in the beginning and it definitely eased my mind about the situation. I adopted my dog in early February and wished I posted this sooner, but it wasn't up until recently I had texted Renae about needing my dogs shot paperwork faxed to a doggie daycare because I was out of town and unable to access the paper copies at home. Renae was so helpful and got me all the information I needed right away and even emailed the documents to me so I have them for future use! They have gone above and beyond for me, my boyfriend and Marley. I will forever be grateful! If anyone reading this needs a little extra push to adopt from Perfect Pet Rescue.... Would not even give 1 star to this rescue, however site insists on it. This rescue is a disgrace to rescue. While spay/neuter is one of the most important things to be done, killing puppies when they are full term and mom is about to deliver is reprehensible. This rescue needs to be shut down. There currently is a little dog about to deliver her puppies at the Carson shelter. This rescue wants the mom but wants the puppies aborted 1st. Not the 1st time that this rescue has done this. read more

I did a trial period to work with Perfect Pet rescue and although they may be saving dogs from kill shelters they have very low standards for hygiene and dog safety. In my brief interlude with this rescue: They brought two sick dogs to adoptions back to back on two 80+ degree days. One dog had surgery a day or two prior and was still in sutures with a cone. The other sick dog had kennel cough and was being exposed to 5 other dogs that are up for adoption (including the one healing from surgery), as well as the general public who may have dogs of their own. Kennel cough is extremely contagious and dogs with kennel cough should be quarantined and not allowed in areas with other dogs - as one dog can infect an entire community. Beyond that, they were allowing the dogs to pee in the same pen that they're hanging out in all day for adoptions rather than taking them for walks to relieve themselves in areas outside of their enclosure. Also worth noting, I was asked to transport 6 dogs with 2 kennels. It's just not safe to do that with THAT many dogs. And the rescue has a stack of kennels they could have used but opted not to. Not to mention I was warned about "the dirty kennels" - which is kind of horrifying, why have they not been cleaned? Who is storing dirty or soiled travel kennels?? That's so unsanitary. I do want to think their heart is in the right place, but their hygiene standards prevented me from wanting to pursue a position with them. read more

This was the most rude pet rescue I've ever been to!! The people in the lobby were very nice and helpful but I waited fifteen minutes before anyone brought me back to look at the dogs. The lady looked me up and down and gave me a VERY nasty look because I have tattoos. She asked what breed I was specifically looking for, which I wouldn't have had one anyway, and I simply explained to her I am from out of town and I'd like to look at the animals and help her walk them or feed them. I was also checking all of the places in the area for pocket pits and staffordshire terriors for my friend who owns a small rescue. She promptly told me no and turned her nose up at me. I'd like to say kindly, fuck you for judging me based on my tattoos. More than one of your dogs could have had a home but you chose to be a judge mental narrow minded bitch. I would never recommend this place if you have tattoos, dark hair or are non conventional. They will judge you based on your looks. This place is obviously not about the well being of these animals and finding them a better home. read more
