I have never seen a more diverse and thriving freshwater set up and they have here. It is inspiring and makes me want to upgrade to a bigger tank. I have bought five skittle shrimp, two snails, two aquatic plants, a loach, and a pleco divided between two separate visits. All have survived over 8 months except two shrimp. I believe they may have been eaten though; not the aquarium store's fault. Frankly, I am shocked by all the bad reviews. Lots of very specific items for aquarium pets. I came with my daughter and she loved looking at all the fish, but also wasn't loving the dark/compact feel. We had a staff helping us and answering my many questions which I appreciated. Everything was very pricey. I got 3 items-2 live plants and 1 water conditioner type thing and total was $65. I guess i understand having to keep up with being a small business and people shopping at chain stores. My biggest gripe is one of the plants I was sold seemed like it had been sitting out steaming in the tiny 2oz plastic cup and when I got it home and attempted to prep it to going the tank it just looked in really rough shape. Maybe that's what I should have expected, but I ended up not using any of it, and tossing it. Which was a waste of $20. I haven't put the other plant in the aquarium yet. It's sitting in a separate water tank with a root first. I wanted to love this place, but I just feel let down and disappointed. read more

Really enjoy how helpful the staff is here. The knowledge here beats the big box stores. Dennis has always been a huge help on my visits. The store isn't that organized so you sometimes have to look in multiple spots for the same things. Some things cost more than the other stores but the level of experience is worth a few extra bucks. If your new to the hobby it's a great place to start to get you off on the right foot and if your experienced you'll enjoy them knowing what your talking about. read more

I bought a test kit from them along with live rock only to find they will not accept a return of the test kit which is perfectly brand new and unopened. At least give me store credit!! Geez! Having just moved to the Central Valley, I was looking forward to getting my next aquarium set up with some live plants. Inquired about a specific plant/algae (Java moss) only for the employee to state that he would bring some in the next day, and to show up after 12pm. Make the half hour drive there (with a baby mind you, I'm disabled as well) only to be blown off because he didn't bother to bring what he said he would. Why even waste someone's time? His customer service skills are severely lacking as he looks unhappy in general and has no interest in caring about repeat customers. The dude and I came here before shelter and place early March 2020 to look around as it is in a plaza that has a smoke shop and a Starbucks. We were greeted by staff and observed a dude trying to negotiate prices on a aquarium tank in which the worker did not accept any prices on the dude who was low balllin. We looked at all the various sea critters and fish. I thought the glow fish were pretty cool and prices for all animals were reasonably priced but I felt the tanks were priced excessively high but I am no fish tank expert. It was really clean inside. They even have reptiles like snakes, lizards and turtles. Overall I thought the shop was pretty cool. They do have adjusted hours due to COVID-19 so I would call before going over to make sure they are open. Overall, I would recommend this shop! I do want a Nemo and Dori fish. read more

the fish i was looking for were mainly freshwater as i'm wanting to aquascape a self sustaining ecosystem aquarium with live plants, the right substrate combination, lava rocks, etc. & for this i wanted to add pleco, gouramis, angel fish, koi guppies, mollies & loaches. also am looking to add tiny shrimp & a couple types of snails to help control algae & keep tank clean. everything i needed to create my project is here in this shop. it is a small shop but clean & well organized. they have their rocks, gravel, substrate, tools, fish & reptile food near the freshwater tanks - organized by category - which makes what you're looking for easy to find. their fish, live plants & reptiles are healthy, active and beautiful. there's a wide variety of various fish breed & aquatic species (saltwater & freshwater). couldn't help but notice the baby starfish! & all the gorgeous coral, sea anemones & other various saltwater species they had. i appreciated seeing how they keep their betta fish in larger, taller mason type glass jars so they have a bit more room to wiggle around than the standard small cups bettas are usually seen in when being sold. they have cute little turtles & iguanas in well kept terrariums opposite the saltwater fish section. customer service is great - they're friendly, know their stuff & are quick to help. there's a good selection of tanks of all sizes at fair prices. if keeping an aquarium or terrarium is your hobby, you won't be disappointed by the selection of this fish & reptile store. read more

The rats they keep for feeders are in scary bad conditions in their back room, a plastic bin filled of filthy rats covered in their own shit and piss and smell horrible. The snakes are poorly kept. Really terrible pet shop. I will never be coming back here. We bought a heat rock even though I originally was asking about a heating pad for our leopard gecko because their worker highly recommended it and after we purchased it I went online to see about how to set it up and read review after review of how terrible the heat rocks were. We went back no less than 15 minutes later with our items still in the packaging and asked if we could exchange the items for the heating pad I was originally interested in and the owner said no and gave me some attitude about how his worker gave me the right advice and they knew more than all the people on the internet. Really terrible service. Super rude and overall just a really horrible experience. One of the worst customer experiences I've had to date. read more

I wanted to like this place so badly, you guys, and at first I did, sort of. My 13-year-old son is new to reefkeeping and loves the hobby. He read the many negative reviews of the owner, so we stayed away for a good six months before we decided to give it a shot and see for ourselves. Our first few visits were ok...the owner's behavior was definitely not what you'd expect from an adult who owns a business (he spent all of his time telling us how terrible every other reef store in town is), but my son got some corals he's been wanting for a long time, so it wasn't a total loss. Honestly to me he seemed like someone who is on the Autism Spectrum, as though he didn't understand that it's not ok to speak so badly of other people, so I told my son that our plan was to be kind in response to his negativity and see if we could be a good example. But then our last visit happened. As he was rigning up my son's purchase of coral glue, I showed the owner some photos of my son's tank. My son was pointing out the various corals he has, using the full Latin names when the owner snidely commented, "You don't have to use the full Latin names Bud," with a roll of his eyes. I looked him in the eye and said with a smile, "He likes Latin. I think it's cool!" (Again, trying to model proper adult behavior). He seemed a little embarrased, so he proceeded to tell a story about how a "lady of the African American persuasion" (as if her ethnicity was of any consequence) came into his store and asked him some questions about what was in his tanks. Evidently her lack of coral knowledge or of Latin wasn't up to his liking, because he proceeded to make fun of the way she spoke and to tell my son how he "called the cops on her" and had her "escorted out of his shop", for apparently no other reason than being black and speaking differently than him. I was watching my other sons at the time and didn't hear the part about him calling the police, but my son was EXTREMELY uncomfortable and I wish I had been there to defend him. I guess this owner person thought he was safe displaying his ugly racism to my child because my sons appear to be "white" even though my husband's family comes from the Phillippines. My son was in tears as we drove away because more than a few members of our family are African American and he felt shocked by and afraid of the behavior he had just seen. The owner of this establishment is racist and has no problem displaying his ugliness to people in his shop. The fact that he has cool fish and corals is of no signifigance when compared to the fact that he thinks it's funny to call the police on human beings because of the color of their skin and the way they speak. Our family wanted a sulcata and I saw an ad on Craigslist directing me to this shop. What it failed to say is that you have to pay only cash for the discount. What a scam. Second, we got terrible advice on how to care for our new member. Third, they sold us the wrong equipment to properly care for it. We ended up having to buy all new stuff from a different place once we did a lot more research on proper care. Fourth, they bribe you for a good review. You get $5 off if you post an all star review. Once you do more digging you see how terrible this place is and all the real, honest reviews. Lastly, I thought their sulcatas were hatchlings from the size. The poor babies are almost a year old and are still 2 inches! Indicative of poor diet. I'm glad I was able to save our baby from the poor conditions. Edit to add: they post their "sales" online making it enticing to come in. "10-50%" off! They say. Then once you come in, they don't show what's on sale. But then conveniently the one you want to buy is only on sale for 10% off but they won't show the ones supposedly 50% off. read more

I've been in the Aquarium hobby for 15 years. The staff at this location were extremely helpful. They do have a good selection of fish and supplies. I was disappointed however, in their no return policy. I would suggest Whitey's pet shop which is about 15 minutes down the road. You can return the fish that you buy (with a sample of your water) as well the products that you buy. This reptile store is also bribing people with a discount to leave positive remarks on yelp (fyi). read more

I went in with every intention to purchase anywhere from 2-3 thousand dollars on a new reef aquarium as I was walking around the store I overheard the owner cussing out one of the workers for doing something incorrect. Not something I would say is appropriate to hear while in a place of business. I told him I don't think that is appropriate to do that while customers are around and then he started to cuss me out and say "what you have never heard the word F$@* before, that's what's wrong with you snowflakes you live in your own world" and a bunch of other stuff dropping the F bomb and other explicative's quite a bit as I walked out. All I said is that I don't think that kind of language is appropriate in a place of business with customers around. I will gladly go somewhere else where I will get treated with respect, kindness, and where shop owners don't cuss out their employees in front of the customers. And shop owners won't be cussing out the customers. (I'd say thats pretty bad for a business) I don't use that kind of language. Came into the store today looking for a nano reef tank. I picked up a new 10g jbj all-in-one nano reef tank on sale for only $99. Now that's a steal because they usually run for 150+. I also purchased live sand from them. I was only looking for a 10 lb. bag but they didn't have it in stock. Instead, they gave me a 20 lb. bag and honored the price of a 10 lb. bag. The employees are knowledgeable in the reefing hobby and respectable towards me and my wife. Whether you're beginning the reefing hobby or an expert, these guys got you covered. Knowing Fresno, there aren't a lot of LFS around so these guys are your go to. They also got you covered for RO water and saltwater. I know that mixing can become stressful or if you live in an apartment and have no space to mix, you can just purchase water here. I've been using their pre-mix and RO for months and I haven't had problems with it. Thanks for the great deal today guys, you're the real mvp. P.S. if you need a water parameter test, just drop by and they can test your waters. Sometimes, a second set of eyes and hands can make a difference. I was first sold a tick infested iguana, I understand they sometimes have these things. I called to tell them my issue to be told "all sales are final" Which is fine. I don't see a sign or anything on my receipt, but okay: that's a separate issue. This review is solely based on the lack of respect from every single employee in there today. Also, by some of the replies on bad reviews, I think the shop lacks integrity all together. To be told by an associate after telling them nicely I would like some responsibility taken for my iguana having ticks.. "Well, you don't need to shop here, do you?" Is the most disrespectful, disgusting thing to not only say to a customer, also a woman. No "I'm sorry mam, I can't help you" "we apologize" LIKE. NORMAL. ASSOCIATES. SPEAK. TO. CUSTOMERS. How would they feel if their wife or daughter was spoken to like that? After calling back asking for the owner, i was told by another associate that he didn't care what I told others about their customer service, that it was just a part time job, he could and I quote "care less" Shows the respect your employees have for you and your business as well. It's too bad that My husband and I are avid aquarists, and belong to a large community of fish and tank lovers. Extreme False advertising. Went to this store and I wish I read the reviews before. They constantly post ads on Craigslist for deals, I went in for one of them and was told they were no longer doing that deal I checked their post when we got back in the car and it was posted less than 5 hours ago... they flood craigslist advertising about deals just to get people in there and then tell them they aren't having that deal anymore. the owner is super rude and had made a racists comment while we were looking around, this business is the most pathetic I've seen which is most likely why he has to use craigslist to get himself any customers. We went to whities down the street and explained to them what happened and they let us know that a lot of their customers have had the same bad experience. Went in to do some research on a tank set up for a small amount of fish. I was helped right away, felt very comfortable with what was offered and like I was being helped, not just sold something. The people that work there are very knowledgeable and kind. I ended up buying the tank set up, and I will return there to buy the fish. There wasn't a ton of decor to put in the tank, but stuff like that I can get on Amazon or a bigger pet store. This place is more about the fish and plants, and keeping them all as healthy as possible. While I was there I heard the owner talk to several other people about foods and fish issues. The staff were all extremely knowledgeable and very helpful! They have a great variety of fresh and salt water fish, tanks, accessories, etc. They also offer free water testing which we have done and it was followed up with great advice to get our tank stable. Went in for a new set up with my friend. We were looking for a tank, stand, lights, filter. The whole set thing. They seemed to have some really good deals and the owner was in shop. I saw a sign saying we now have reptiles. Being a reptile enthusiast I wondered over to see what they had. A few small and over crowded snake tanks, some chameleons, and a few other lizards. While the fish were beautifully kept, the reptiles were living in filth. Easily placing 4 ball pythons in a cage that had to be less than 5gals. Not a single snake had a hide in the enclosure. As for the chameleons they had very dry substrate and a water dish. I went to the owner and said I apologize for being THAT person but chameleons cant and wont recognize standing water. The owner immediately got defensive and told me all about how hes the owner and knows exactly what hes doing. Only to follow up with an interrogation of what year I was born. When I told him my age he scuffed and said he'd been in the field longer than I've been alive. Ok buddy. I dont actually care. That doesnt make you right. When I stated that I've been in the hobby for 7yrs myself and not only work with rescues but work in a vet clinic as well, he then started going off again. Telling me all about how it's funny that the only complaints he gets are from reptile people and they have no idea what they're talking about. That they all complain about the same thing but he knows best. Obviously. Then started blaming Petco and petsmart saying that they are the real issue and they start all these issues. Again, ok. He eventually circled back to the chameleons and told me he has seen one drink from a cup so they would if needed. They won't, but this owner is to full of himself, it's no wonder the place looks like it's going under. As a tip, maybe if a bunch of people are coming to you with concerns about the animals you're keeping. Change it. And if you really don't want to change anything, suck it the fuck up, put a smile on and acknowledge it as a true concern. Or better yet, stop selling reptiles here and keep to the fish. Neglecting those poor reptiles isn't going to save your business. It would be better sticking to what you actually know. I'd say most of the only feasible thing about this place is they had a good selection of fish. The owner chats about how awesome he is and how much money he makes. After getting our first setup from here we quickly learned how to do it ourselves so we didn't have to go in anymore. It's over priced compared to anything else in town. But his selection of fish is good. Coral not so much. Place itself is small but has plenty of tanks, small amount of supplies. I explained that I had 2 small tanks but got a new larger one and needed to start out new with this one. I paid $20 for a bottle of stabilizer (along with pebbles and a water heater) and found out I had already purchased this bottle for my other tank, which I didn't mind having more but I paid only $8 elsewhere. I called and explained I didn't need this extra bottle. They do not accept returns so be aware of what you're buying before you pay. Shop around first as this is grossly over priced. I don't mind making a profit but more than double the regular price is a rip off. I was fine with store credit which was offered on the phone but when I went in they told me they were refusing the store credit because I gave a bad Google review. The employees then told me their father who owns the store would not do business with me and this was "nicer than what they personally would do to me" beware of these people, they are scamming customers for overly priced items and telling customers they aren't welcomed if they don't give good reviews. On the spot they ask for a 5 star review for a discount so most of the reviews aren't thought out or real. They are very unprofessional, rude, and sketchy to say the least.
