If you are not excused, I advise arriving before 7:30 a.m., when the doors open, so you can get through security quickly and arrive at the jury summons room on time. You fill out another questionnaire (similar to the summons you must bring), which helps the judges and lawyers determine the first round of excusals. If you are "lucky" enough to make it through that round, you will be taken upstairs to the courtroom for the voir dire process. Depending on the number of jurors needed, you may need to stay for lunch. There is a reasonably priced cafeteria with hot and cold options and snacks.

I said yes, and he proceeded to hold up my cat keychain, (that does have two holes in it you can put your fingers through, if you need to protect yourself on a late night walk or something?) and then told me (in the most snooty tone) that "this is highly illegal. This could be considered a brass knuckle. I could arrest you for a felony right now." (He said that last sentence incredibly condescendingly). After coming here more than a 15 times to both observe how court worked and sue a crooked…read moreunlicensed contractor in small claims, I have dealt with probably 12 people in both of the court room and in the clerks office. Overall, I would have to say that the experiences have been very very poor. It seems like very few people had any understanding of what they were doing. First, the day of my small claims case, though I came down and observed the regular magistrate a dozen times in the previous weeks, I had the unfortunate luck of a substitute magistrate. She was in such a hurry to get to other cases done that she came across as scatterbrained and was not focusing on my case when we were in front of her. I clearly explained what I was trying to achieve in a holding a second defendant accountable if the first one did not pay me back. I explained this to her numerous times because she didn't seem to understand. She was so unfocused that she did not clearly instruct me/us that both defendants needed to sign the stipulation in order for me to achieve my goal of holding them both accountable. If it had been the primary magistrate, she probably would have found against the defendants simply because one showed up 30 minutes late and the other one was over an hour late making a circus out of the entire thing from the beginning until the end. We were in the process of finalizing everything when the second defendant came in the door. What we had talked about was that it would be a default judgment against the second defendant if he did not show up. ALL she needed to tell me was that he needed to sign the form as well as the primary defendant. It was a total cluster. In the courthouse both defendants agreed to be responsible. This means we sign a stipulation and they have 30 days to pay me. The second defendant, that was over an hour late, verbally agreed to be responsible if the first defendant did not pay me, but no one ever mentioned that both defendants needed to sign the stipulation. The judge handed us over to the clerk and was no longer paying attention to help verify the things were done correctly. Since I have never been in a court room, and this is small claims court, a person needs a judge that's paying attention. Because the "fill in" magistrate did not do a thorough job, I, the plaintiff, got screwed out of $7500, $8200 If you include all the fees including serving the defendants and the total amount that this guy really owed me. Next, in dealing with the clerks office for many things including filing motions, figuring out how to properly fill out the paperwork, and trying to get an interrogatory sent, out of ALL my visits I think I had two people who were knowledgeable and seem to know what they were doing and 9 or 10 who had no clue and either gave me such general information it was useless, or flat out wrong information. Up to two stars for the couple clerks that did answer questions correctly and knew their jobs. Overall, my advice is that if you have to use the criminal justice system here in Colorado Springs, it is not helpful for small claims plaintiffs looking for assistance on things as simple as how to fill out more than two defendants on a form, much less anything more complicated. I suggest it's worth the extra effort to try to find a lawyer to help you maneuver your way through the system, even if it is a small claims case. The whole thing was a joke and the crook, who has now stolen over $38,000 between four people, and seemed to know how to manipulate the system, wins.

Though I did enjoy the experience it literally took from 8am to 5pm. Could have easily ended in half the time but the lawyer had to hash out the legalize and the jury had to leave the room to not be prejudice.

I will say however, this was not a completely bad experience. My kid asked me to accompany him to help deal with his first traffic ticket. We got there 20 min early, checked in. Took another 30 min to be called, 60 min to be called into the judge, 10 min to pay at the window. Took time but not a bad experience. Take some work or entertainment with you and you'll be fine.

horrible experience from the start to end. courtroom assignment was wrong and when we got to the…read moreright one. there was no hearings today. we watched a video and got basically told to figure it out alone. at the legal services it's taken two hours to get seen. I am second in line and after two hours still wasn't seen. horrible attitudes and demeanor from an employee shooing off people in need like they are a dog. i understand there is a process and procedure but if you don't want to work when you are at work. quit your job and let someone who does take it. this experience alone is my deciding factor on leaving the state

*Holiday Review* One cannot and should not miss the light…read moredisplay. The city of Denver is still celebrating the holidays, although without the traditional pomp and circumstance. The presentation begins promptly at 545p and lasts for 5minutes. The lights are orchestrated with holiday music and shows real well. Even on a Saturday, the crowd was minimal so we had a good view from Civic Center Park. A nice way to bring in a little cheer to your evening. Thank you Denver for continuing this tradition in 2020.

Beautiful Courthouse! Probably one of the nicest I've seen. The grounds are gorgeous. There is a…read morenice cafe/cafeteria inside on the bottom level with outdoor seating too. The food was actually really fresh and very good. There is a little coffee shop just inside the lobby area too. Security is not a big problem, even when I came on a busy day with over 500 jurors coming through, I got through very quickly with no issues. I even had my dolly loaded with lots of boxes for a lengthy trial and it wasn't too bad getting through security. Just a heads up, they do not let you bring through any liquids or food, but if you get a note from the bailiff in your division, it's not a problem.

Zero customer service. They lie and don't keep their word or commitments. In my opinion the commissioner of my area should be looking for work in fast foods. I've dealt with a few departments and none deliver satisfactory service. They're really good at getting my Tabor refund with empty promises. Looking forward to moving to a county that provides decent roads and services.
