I was spoken to as though I lacked the ability to understand my own medical care. He had the audacity to laugh at my pain. Who does that? Appointments felt rushed and transactional, with little evidence of thoughtful evaluation or clinical curiosity. Listening was minimal, explanations were inadequate, and the overall impression was that financial throughput mattered more than careful management of any conditions. He wants what is easy and only sees you as profit. The office environment reinforced these concerns. Staff were rude and unhelpful, the practice was disorganized, and it was unsettling. I'm sad to see this doctor has not become more professional over the years. I saw him years ago because he was recommended by my MD. When I told him what a previous endocrinologist had diagnosed, he arrogantly laughed and made fun of her. I was going the next week to another endocrinologist who was fairly well-known, and he said he couldn't wait to hear about her reaction to my previous doctor, and how she would think my previous doctor was a hack. He acted like he and the new endocrinologist were close colleagues. So unprofessional. And not only did the new endocrinologist not say a single negative thing, but she did not even know who Dr Horizon was. He was arrogant, condescending, and unprofessional, without helping at all. I was hoping that was just age because he was younger then, but apparently not. As I look for a new rheumatologist, he will obviously not be on the list. read more

I am saddened by all the negative reviews. Dr. Horizon has treated me for 20 years and has always gone above and beyond. The $250 fee is optional. It is to cover administrative expenses. You don't have to pay it unless you need special services. I had an illness that fell outside of his practice but he detected it, when my thyroid doctor did not. He recommended surgery and again when my thyroid doctor was NOT helpful, Dr. Horizon's staff helped me select a surgeon and everything went smoothly because of him and his staff. I have seen other Doctor's in his practice, who are equally dedicated, knowledgeable and aware of new methods. They show great compassion and I feel they are more thorough, attentive and caring than my primary's at Cedars. Their treatment is always spot on and I feel supported in every way. Arthritis and other blood diseases are their specialty but I can go in with a sore throat and they will still treat me. One review mentioned the parking. Yes the lot is small but the building is only 3 stories with 4 practices and one small pharmacy. If you want a big parking lot, park across the street at cedars and walk one block. My dad has been seeing Dr. Horizon for many years for his RA. There is probably not a doctor he feels more comfortable with, which is saying a lot because my Dad is a very critical dude! Anyways, when I was around 16, I started to see him as well when I started having joint pain in my hands. Dr. Horizon took a history and diagnosed me right away with Psoriatic Arthritis. He prescribed medication that took away both the joint pain and my skin rashes. My skin healed within a week! I had been seeing a dermatologist on the side for that and all of the topical medications definitely did not help. I was so blessed that the pills he gave me worked that fast and they went away. Fast forward to now, I'm 27 with Crohn's disease. My dad gets his Stelara infusion/shots there as they have an infusion center. My IBD doctor at Cedar's said it was perfectly fine to go Dr. Horizon's clinic to get my treatment there (my IBD doctor also likes him, if you needed to know). So I go there to get my infusion, even though Dr. Horizon wasn't there for the day. This new office is very clean and spacious, the infusion center was very comforting. I did, however, had a reaction to the infusion immediately, and Dr. Kretzmann who was on-call came over to introduce himself and check up on me after they stopped. He took a history and sat with me for awhile, explaining what happened and stayed with me until I was comfortable to proceed. The infusion nurses and Dr. Kretzmann kept checking up on me and had put my anxiety to ease. Because Dr. Horizon has a very busy schedule and I was really comfortable with Dr. Kretzmann, I decided to continue my follow ups with him instead. He really made me feel comfortable at a time I was very vulnerable and really listened to all of my nonsense and never made me feel uncomfortable/intimidated. Both doctors are very excellent and will take their time to make sure you are doing okay and will do whatever treatment is most comfortable for you. Granted I haven't seen Dr. Horizon in over ten years, but I'm sure he has not changed at all. I don't know where all of these negative reviews come from, and I'm sorry if they are true, but rare experiences. I never had a problem reaching administration, but I also don't call on Monday mornings when any doctor's office is busy. I have always had a great experience with Dr. Horizon and his staff. Yes, the office can be busy at times and when you call to ask a question or schedule an appointment there is often a wait, but I also know this is common in most medical practices. In-person I never have found the office overcrowded or hectic at all. Dr. Horizon generally spends quite a bit of time with me and is very thorough, patient, and compassionate. I went to Dr. Horizon after years of auto-immune issues that no-one could diagnose, and my other rheumatologist was calling chronic fatigue and secondary dysautonomia. Dr. Horizon immediately picked up on clues that I had been trying to point out to the previous doctor, and he took xrays which showed definite inflammatory damage. He ran labs that supported his diagnosis and started me on a medication that has helped me a lot. He also has treated my husband for familial psoriatic arthritis, with a medication he just took for a few months, and then stopped once the labs showed improvement. No side-effects, and his symptoms are completely gone. His siblings have deformed hands and are in a lot of pain, but my husband won't have to go through that now, thanks to Dr. Horizon. I am an RN and Dr. Horizon has always taken the time to review his rationale with me and has only seemed rushed during one appointment, which was a quick follow-up. Otherwise he has taken quite a bit of time with me (more than most any other doctors I have ever seen) and is so comprehensive and clear. I am so grateful for his care and knowledge, insight and wisdom. I also appreciate his back office staff who are always friendly and kind, and the front office even asked me the other day if I would like a bottle of water when I checked in for my appointment. I'm sure he is a great doctor, but his practice is the worst office experience I have ever had. I have NEVER experienced such a delay in getting a call back, especially when the complaints are serious. Even when trying to get the office to call in a prescription it is a tedious task. They took three business days to call me back (not even using my work number that I had asked them to call me back on) then told me I had to have my pharmacy contact them (and the pharmacy said they could not call because it was a new prescription). Because of their inability to help me get my prescriptions filled I often had to go to the office and wait for ludicrous time periods just to pick up a shot. After being his patient for months I feel like I am barely any better since the stress and anxiety of dealing with his office. He only has you check in every other month, so if the medicines aren't working it takes forever to fix it. They aren't even on top of their billing. They called me to question me about a bill which I had not only written a check for-- but they had already cashed. I think there are a lot of negative reviews because...lets face it...when you have to see a rheumatologist theres a possibility you are in a negative space. I get it, you're in a lot of pain so its easy to take it out on nearly everyone you come in contact with. Dr.Horizon is a fantastic doctor and an amazing human being. I have been a patient for a few years. I came to him confused,hopeless,angry and crippled by RA. He has made it his personal mission to get me back to as close to normal as possible. He is genuinely upset when I am flared and always looking to find a solution. I have a stubborn nature and he patiently explains new medications and gives sound advice. He runs a tight ship, the office is amazing and I've never had an unpleasant experience. In top of that , when I first got there the girl in the front said that they don't accept my insurance. I am 74 years old and have had 2 hips replaced, a complete shoulder and my wrist fused! When I was referred to Dr Horizon it was obvious he was a very busy doctor considering it took 3 months for an appointment. My first visit he took many x-rays and blood tests and was extremely pleasant to talk with and at no time did I ever feel rushed. I enjoy playing golf and since I had scheduled to have my other shoulder replaced and my left wrist also fused I figured I was done. Dr Horizon reviews my X-Rays and blood work and determined I had inflammatory psoriatic arthritis. He noticed most all my joints were inflamed and prescribed the drugs he felt would work for me. He told me to hold off on my surgeries and he felt he could control my deterioration of my joints. 2 weeks ago I went on a golf trip with my pals and I played 5 rounds of golf in 4 days! Probably once a week I will play 27 or 36 holes of golf!! No pain...Dr horizon is the most caring doctor I have been to and he has transformed my life. I have read some of the reviews and as I have always said there are two sides to every story (and reviews)! Our drive is over 6 hours for an office visit and I never complain..he is worth every mile! His office staff is friendly and very accommodating, is he always on time..NO! But this is to be expected for a doctor of his calibre. Am I rushed during my appointment..NO. He listens and answers all our questions. I have been seeing Dr. Horizon for 1 year and I will continue to see him as long as I am able to make the trip! It is so amazing my joints have no pain and my body no longer hurts. After playing golf the next day I have no pain and I am ready to play again.... I was a patient of Dr. Horizon and payed him a $250 administration fee! I called 3 days in a row to speak with Dr. Horizon because I was having unusually severe pain. He never came to the phone and never called. His assistant picked up the call and I told her that I couldn't walk because the pain in my feet was so excruciating. She said she would check with the doctor. She called back and said I had a pinched nerve and to change the amount of magnesium and calcium. I did as they suggested but the pain got much worse. I called again and asked if it could be an attack of gout, which I never had before. Dr. Horizons office never responded. I ended up in the hospital .The hospital confirmed it was a bad case of gout. The hospital put me on heavy pain killers due to the severity of the gout. It is shocking that Dr. Horizon has never called me back in over a month. He is a rude individual and thinks he is the best diagnostician but he STINKS as a doctor and does not care about his patients. I would never recommend him to anyone -- not even a dog . By the way--this doctor does not deserve any stars and he owes my $250. read more

His expertise covers more than just rheumatology and he is capable of seeing a patient as a person rather than a disease - a rare finding. This does not diminish his capacity in his specialty. I am surprised and saddened to see any negative reviews. I have been a patient of Dr. Horizon for several years and I adore him and have recommended him to friends and family. He is not only a first-rate doctor technically, but he is such a nice person. He's a real mensch. Dr. Horizon might be the first doctor that I've ever seen who actually reviewed my records and didn't ask me all the same questions that I had already answered in writing before the exam! He is always familiar with my various conditions and remembers things and people in my life that affect me. He is kind, funny, warm, patient, and I never, ever feel rushed. He always spends plenty of time with me, listening to my concerns and answering my questions. He explains strategies and makes a plan with me; and his stick-to-it-ness got me diagnosed with a non-rheumatoid condition that was wreaking havoc on my life a few years ago. His staff has always been very kind and helpful too. I never feel it when Maria takes blood. His assistant Julie is always on top of things; knows me, my RXs, my scheduling and is always responsive when I call or email her. I can't speak highly enough about Dr. Horizon and his practice. My boyfriend sees Dr. Kretzmann, who I have also seen when Dr. H was on vacation once, and he too spends lots of time with you, listening to your concerns and answering your questions. I can't recommend these doctors highly enough. As for the administrative fee, I paid it today and did so gladly. I am retired now but I was working when I started with Dr. H and I went through many periods of disability for which he always filled out forms personally without charge. This was before they instituted the administrative fee to cover such things so I completely understand why a busy practice would have such a fee. I'm certain that if it's a terrible hardship for someone that they could work out something. I am so grateful that I was referred to Dr. Horizon; he's the best! read more

I stood at the window in his office for five minutes before the woman took the time to turn her head and say hi. I was asked to sign about 7 pages of paperwork. I initialed about 17 paragraphs. Many of these paragraphs were for ridiculous fees, but I signed them anyway. But I chose not to initial one paragraph in the consent form. Dr. Horizon refused to see me. I told him I would sign if it two questionable words were crossed off. He refused. Never in my life have I seen a doctor refuse services over paperwork. It's been about a week since I called to talk about an allergic reaction I was having with god only knows what-either from Glucosamine MSM, calcium supplements or some nerve blocker Rx. I would fall asleep and wake up the next day with swollen legs and hands with trouble breathing. I called frantically twice to find out what could possibly be causing the problem and was told that 1. He's very busy and lectures frequently. 2. Not to expect a call back anytime soon. The his appointment line is run by a sarcastic unprofessional most unhelpful canker on the face of medicine. It's been a week and I've stopped taking all the supplements, so it has resolved itself somewhat, but it would have been nice to get actual medical advice rather than rely on WebMD. I have now been a patient of Dr Horizon's for almost 3 years and I still think he is one of the best doctors I have ever seen. He is smart, kind, informative and listens to what you have to say. He really cares about his patients and what they are going through. I adore his nurse and staff. They have always been extremely kind and friendly to me and my husband.. Wow, yeah. I thought I was the only person feeling like that office was ridiculously organized (or un-organized really?!). I went to him for about a year and a half and he had me come in every quarter to retest blood work and adjust meds (which I'm not sure ever really worked). Talk about a nightmare office, billing was always screwed up, if Julie wasn't around no one else knew what the hell was going on and my blood work kept getting send to out of network labs (even though there were in-network labs they could have gone to). Overall it was so unpleasant I have not gone back for at least a year (of course no one noticed or followed up as to why I've not been back) and I haven't seen anyone else about my condition. so Ive never had a problem with the doctor or billing, one year when they overbilled my refund was issued the same month. The doctor is on top of the literature, the staff in the infusion center are SO awesome and Julie, his assistant is always on top of things. That being said there is one chick there, who just recently started answering the phone who is probably the rudest person alive. I think her name is Minnie, but Ive had the misfortune of getting her on the phone twice in the last year, yes she is that memorable, and both times I felt like a dog who had just shit on the floor. Wasn't like I was calling for anything over the moon either, once was to check on a Rx/give an pharmacy number and another to schedule an appointment. Because of her I knocked the stars down a peg and shudder every time I need to call. If I didn't already have a history there I wouldn't have gone back. I gave Dr. Horizon 1 star only because I could not give 0. I have several medical problems, and the last thing I need is someone taking advantage of my pain for their own financial advantage. Lying actually. Showing x-rays that may or may not have been mine, but certainly did not look anything like the actual MRI film which I had reviewed by another doctor. The report and the film did not equate. I was suspicious when it was strongly suggested that I get an MRI at a certain facility I had not used in the past. The report indicated I had severe problems, but when reviewing the film against the report (with another doctor) I realized what a racket this can be! Lots of money to be made in follow-ups, physical therapy, etc. And of course, you can complain to the Medical Board but it is a futile exercise. This year alone, I had a hospital do a test on the wrong body part and then would not under any circumstances admit their mistake and redo it, a doctor who (I believe intentionally) told me I needed a heart defibrillator (a second opinion showed that his echocardiograms were so far off that it would be impossible for it to be an accidental) and then Dr. Horizon! Most people don't take the time to check things out. They trust their doctors. Fill the prescriptions without asking questions. This creates a great opportunity for those who have no ethics to take advantage of patients. And they do it with a smile. read more

This office is money crazy. If they happen to do something to help a patient it is by accident. There is only a small parking area and you must pay their high fees. The parking guys are very polite and have been there a long time. The office has once again raised their yearly Administration Fee. Even if you only visit a single time it is a mandatory $250 just for the privilege of walking in the door. If you comment about it the poor office girls just roll their eyes as they know it is absurd and know it is a scam. You have no choice but to sign your life away on their tablet with multiple signatures to make sure they receive as much money as possible and are absolved of anything that could go wrong. This office would never give you a break if your life depended on it. There are no cash discounts if you simply walk in and to look at you is going to run 6 to $700 for a regular visit. They collect insane amounts by giving simple infusions for the elderly but don't want to speak with them. They want those old patients who all have joint pain to jog their butts into rooms to get insanely expensive shots so they can bill insurance. If you need a refill for a prescription good luck. You better call it in early because the odds at that they will not respond to your pharmacy. We got transferred after many years, 15 to 20, from Horizon to a different doctor in the office because Horizon only wants the most prime patients with the shortest visit time. He is an egomaniac to be certain. He is aloof and comes off very elitist. He was better many years ago when he was a younger doctor working in a different office. I have been bringing my mother in for many years, so he has been cashing in on easy money. He wouldn't even acknowledge us when I was there just down his hallway with my two babies in a stroller. He is extremely aware of his surroundings, so this is just being a jerk. The nurses in this office have no skills. They bumble around with every procedure. Absolutely do not have them draw blood unless you are truly a fan of pain. Maybe he was in a hurry for lunch or to pick up the keys to a new Mercedes. More likely is that he is a race with the other Persian doctors on Wilshire Blvd to see who can obtain more property and wealth. The most money for they least amount of work are probably what they talk about when they get together. Both Dr. Karayev and Dr. Kretzman (all three doctors are Jewish) are extremely pleasant and never rush visits with any patient. They will both talk to you in the combined hallway/office area to compare notes on their own young children just to be friendly, personal, and human. It is too bad they are stuck as lackeys in this office. I seriously misplaced my loyalty with this office. I don't need to drive 70 miles of horrible traffic to Beverly Hills to get my mom a twice a year $1,200 Prolia infusion. If they can also get an in-house blood test and bone density test all the better to fill the coffers. I am so done with this office. Do yourself a favor and be 'done' before you start. Maybe then can raise their administration fees (or create new ones after all this is California) to the point that they don't even need to do a diagnosis. read more

I will forever be grateful to Dr Horizon for giving me a diagnosis, one that I had been searching for for years. We also worked fine together until I had to get some dental work and needed to come off the meds briefly. The dentist offered to work with the Dr Horizon, but the offices could never coordinate and I had to put off the work. Then, the medication I was taking began to give me side effects, the type of reactions that the medication pamphlet warns "CALL YOUR DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY IF THIS HAPPENS" about. I tried and tried and tried and tried to get touch with him, for TWO DAYS. Emails, messages, went in to the office.The assistant and staff were downright rude to me during this process. I can't say how he was when he called because my husband had to speak to him, I was too ill, but he did not say anything except "stop the meds until the symptoms go down, then recommence them", which after that whole scary experience was not enough for me. Yes, the office is busy and the staff can be rude. That's not a deal breaker for me. Dr Horizon might be the best doctor in the world, but when you are in a medication crisis (and autoimmune disease meds are actually dangerous enough to have life or death crises on). and you can't reach your rheumatologist, something needs to change. That IS a deal breaker for me. So, I found another doctor, and am happy with their practice. read more

Other physicians had difficulty diagnosing my condition. As I have seen him over the years, he has always listened to me, treated me with exceptional compassion, promptly returned calls. He noticed another issue when I came in for an office visit. He was concerned and immediately got my chest CT results which was ordered by another physician. He made a referral and called the other physician the next day even though he was out of the office. His patience, commitment as well as his excellent skill makes him one of the best. read more

Wow what a horrible doctor's office - terrible support, terrible attitude and questionable billing practices. They will bill you for chair time, water, and things of that nature. All of which your insurance will not cover. They will then give you the run around about what you owe and what exactly it is for. No accountability and the least helpful office I have ever experienced at Cedars. Let it sink in - chair time! They have aggressive billing tactics and intimidate you to pay or be placed in collections. Must avoid. read more

I have always had a great experience with Dr. Horizon. So I took my elderly aunt today who has serious issues. He was gentle, kind, honest and so engaged with her. When she left she said it was the first time she had hope. He is an old fashion amazing doctor. read more

You feel incredibly rushed, his assistant makes you feel incredibly uncomfortable on the phone (she talks a mile a minute as if she just wants to get you off the phone as quickly as possible), and when he dropped my insurance company two months after taking me as a patient, he said he'd "work with me" on the bill, when it came time to work with me, he refused to talk to me but through his assistant he said "we don't discount office visits." So, they discount office visits for Blue Cross, but not for uninsured patients whose insurance they stopped taking. For them, he charges full price. Nice. read more
