Burek is a savory layered filo dough pasty pie filled with meat, or vegetables, or cheese or a combo of different meats and vegetables. My favorite is a scallion filled Burek. The green chives in the Burek kick it up a notch. The outer skin is pleasantly crisp and crunchy. Every kitchen has its own layering technique. Every chef gives his own personal shape & design. Burek is a universe of its own. There is a cigarette shaped burek. The is Rose Burek (shape) There is a dumpling / bun shaped burek which is called Manti Burek. It can be had for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Whereas once upon a time, we only got reheated Burek that was made days ago, "Super Market Burek", today there are good solid Burek joints in the Tri State region. One can even get Fli (or Flija or Flia), a spin off of Burek, filled with cheesy, buttery clotted cream (Kaymac). I went to Arberia Grill and Café at 2325 65th Street Brooklyn NY for Burek but stayed back for more Maybe on a subconscious level, I knew I would get grilled meats too. Everything I had was excellent and the owners were very helpful in navigating the menu.

Very pleasant and cozy restaurant. Very good Albanian food: we had the Shepards salad, fli, cevapi, and the qofte sandwich. Everything was made very well, super clean and organized. The staff were lovely and kind. For a smaller place, they really made it nice with old photos and decorations. Was pleased with my experience!

Coffee served in a Miscela d'Oro coffee cup. Lovely presentation but the coffee was very American (weak...)

As I walk in, the friendly lady behind the counter asks me what I would like. I respond: A cappuccino please. Then, I carefully inquire further for what baked goods are available with a smile. In her reply, she tells me sadly that there is only croissants. So not being picky, I tell her: Great, I'll have one. Next, she brings me a cappuccino on a glass saucer and my croissant on a dish. Also, there are numerous napkins, sugar, long stemmed spoon given to me as well. I felt like a sports lounge vibe with many tables and chairs (probably enough to seat 35 people at least). Most demographic would be elders, mostly men, in their 40's to 60's kicking back and enjoying the hot, lazy afternoon. It was around 3 pm and I just got off a flight. Now, I know how the other half lives and it's nice!

I found the service impolite and dismissive. And the coffee pod, yes a COFFEE POD AT A CAFÉ is outrageous. Well aside from me noticing a bit to late to stop the process I watched her make it and seen the liquid coming out beige at best. I actually thought she was running a cleaning of the machine, because the color just wasn't the color even a blond roast would be. I mentioned it looked light, to which she replied it's not light it's black coffee it's dark. Well I took my sip, left a dollar tip and left the coffee on the counter. With the myriad of cafes in Brooklyn these days, I would have been better with mud from the bodega.

Our server from…read moreMoldavia was friendly and attentive and suggested I try their most popular dish - the lamb lulya kebab which is ground lamb that is not overly spiced to allow one to taste the meat. It is served with rice and I found it to be a lighter than its Turkish equivalent. It was served with rice. We also ordered Turkish bread that was served warm. The dining area is comfortable and welcoming. Because this restaurant is set back from the Coney Island Avenue next to a liquor store it is easy to miss - but don't - it's excellent!

I ordered the Journey to Baku salad, the Turkish bread, and the Guru Khingal. The salad needed a pinch of salt, but there was a shaker on the table and with that addition, it was a decent refreshing appetizer. It's sort of a spread so I would recommend ordering some bread to eat with it. The bread came out steaming hot and smelling amazing. It was soft and fluffy on the inside and delicious. I took the extra home and ate it all immediately when I got there. Delicious bread. The Guru Khingal is honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten in New York City. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, as I have never eaten this type of food before. The tender, handcut pasta seems to be layered with flavorful lamb fat like the most decadent possible buttered noodles and the ground lamb topping is rich and perfectly seasoned. The yogurt sauce gives the dish balance. It's a fairly large portion that could easily be shared between two. I highly recommend this spot, the glowing reviews are not exaggerating at all. I often like to try new and unusual restaurants, and sometimes I enjoy them mostly for the novelty. That was not the case at Village Cafe. My meal here was delicious and I am eager to return, even with the 75 minute commute from north Brooklyn.
