Ubani has replaced Georgian Cuisine at 8309 Third Avenue. Funny enough, we ordered pretty similarly. We started with the eggplant rolls again and added the beet salad with goat cheese. Beet salad was a hit served with big chunks of tender beets. I'm not sure if they boiled and chilled the beets or used another technique to soften them up, but it came out nicely. This time we opted for the khachapuri imeruli. It was delicious. I've yet to come across a khachapuri that I've disliked. Dough was crispy and flakey. Cheese was melty and gooey. Always such a cozy delight. We had the khinkali again - this time with cheese filling. It's a nice vegetarian friendly option, but I prefer the meat or vegetable blend fillings. Cheese in the khinkali was similar to the khachapuri, so it was redundant to order the two together. Would definitely recommend the khinkali but would pick a different filling if you're getting khachapuri. For the main course, we shared the shkmeruli - a roasted chicken in a creamy garlic sauce. I've seen this listed as chicken tabaka elsewhere. It was excellent! Less garlicky than the one I had a Saperavi earlier in the week. Chicken was juicy but the sauce was the star. We dipped the nipples of the khinkali in the sauce to maximize usage. Good list of Georgian wines. Full bar plus some beers including a Georgian one. Service brought out the dishes in a well paced manner. They were very patient as we lounged in their backyard. It was a very comfortable outdoor dining set up. 10/10. Amazing. No notes. I would sell a limb to come here again if I had to. Large portions (we got the imeruli khachapuri, khinkali, pkali trio, and the mtsvadi) that were all delicious! We had to take some stuff home. Our impressively friendly waitress packaged that up like a military operation. It was AMAZING!!! The interior? Meh. Cool art but nothing too special -- but you won't even care because you'll be too busy slurping down the heavenly food that was blessed by the Georgian mountains or something!! It's comfy enough. I loved it so much! I will come again. I didn't take any food pictures because I don't believe in food bloggers and my sausage fingers frequently prevent me from taking decent pictures. But I did snap a shot of the lemonade which looked a little radioactive but was absolutely delicious. If you're thinking about it, just go! I recently enjoyed a delicious and relaxing dinner with Georgian friends, enjoying many of my favorite Georgian staples - Imeruli Khatchapuri, lobiani, badrijani with walnuts, kebab, and beef & pork khinkali, paired with pear lemonade and Kisi wine (amber wine made in qvevri). Dined in their lovely back space. It was still spacious even with all tables occupied. Ordered the Chicken Stew and Adjaruli Khachapuri. The server stirred the cheese and butter in the Adjaruli Khachapuri for us. They used a mild cheese so for people who aren't big cheese fan - you might like this dish. A solid dish to start with. Came here with a bunch of gfs for brunch and was delighted with the food, a lot of it was super tasty with the imeruli khachapuri being my favorite, who doesn't like cheesy bread? Most of the dishes we ordered were fantastic other than for the beef stew that was $25 with like 6 chunks of beef in a small dish bowl. The service was overall very good, however I think it was the difference in our culture, at moments, felt a bit neglected as we were waiting to order dessert and needed a water refill because it was so hot. The interior itself is small, but there's also a large patio outside which is perfect for a summer evening. I've never had Georgian food before, but after trying Ubani, I'm a fan. Food: I got the Meat Blintzes - crepe filles w/ground meat/rice/Georgian spices (looked like a flattened burrito) & white sauce (lasted like razzle dazzle sour cream Drinks: Ubani - Gin, Earl Grey Tea, Cointreau, Raspberry lime & sugar. The service and staff are ehh. So my friend and I ordered their dumplings and he told me he had this cream with it last time he went to a different Georgian food. So he asked for the cream and fork. Our waitress goes well that's not how you are suppose to eat it , you are suppose to hold the top of the dumpling and just eat it without the cream. This is comfort food at it's finest. Tucked away in a cute little space, this was my first time eating Georgian food. Completely ignorant to what the menu items were, our server did an excellent job explaining the different items and she provided excellent recommendations. Everything was incredible-the Georgian salad, the adjaruli khachpuri and the gigantic soup dumplings-khinkali. The most interesting dish would be the adjaruli/an amazing homemade bread boat filled with cheeses and topped with an egg. Swirl the interior and tear off the bowl to eat. Very bad service our waitress just ignored us after taking our order we waited for food for over an hour during which time she was serving people who came after us. After my husband asked why we were waiting so long she said she could just cancel our order. I will never come to this place again and I will not recommend it to any of my friends and acquaintances. I came here on a Tuesday night and there were two other parties here. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, especially with the Christmas decorations still up. The service was very lax, but it didn't bother us as we'd rather not have staff hovering over us and feeling the rush to get out. One of our cups had a lipstick print still on it, but they were quick to replace it. We were given ample time to choose our dishes. We chose to order the pkhali trio with corn bread, the adjaruli khachapuri with sulguni cheese, the beef and pork khinkali, the meat platter, honey cake and a pitcher of compot. Of the pkhali trio, we enjoyed the leek and green beans one the most, then the spinach and beet last. They were all tasteful, but the leek was the one we enjoyed most. The cornbread, we weren't a fan of, but that's because we like regular cornbread. The Khachapuri was really delicious, especially with the added sulguni cheese. The saltiness of the cheese took it up a level. The khinkali was also slightly bigger than other places I've been to and had the right flavors. They also teach you how to eat it if you've never had it before. The meat platter looked better than it tasted. Sadly the meats were quite tough and hard to chew through. The honey cake was a good ending and split amongst four. It was both moist and dry at the same time. The cake dry while paired with the cream, it felt more balanced. The compot, I'd say to try it and if you add some water to it, it's actually quite enjoyable too. Will definitely come back again. read more

This is my favorite Georgian restaurant ever! Have been going there since they are open. I'm not Georgian, but Georgian cuisine is one of my favorites. My personal recommendation: eggplant with walnuts, hachapuri with scallions, best hinkali and my personal favorite mint suluguli with fried polenta. My first time at Ubani, but will not be my last. What an outstanding spot! I wasn't sure what foods to expect and wasn't disappointed at what I and my fellow diners had. First off, what a tastefully designed restaurant. Soft, not bright lighting with beautiful blown glass lamps and beautiful little lights throughout. The Server was a wonderfully charming gentleman who took the time to explain dishes and how cultural they were to his homeland. There was the very best borscht soup I have ever experienced! You could die & go to heaven peacefully, after having that soup. There was other soup's & appetizers to choose from, but my table-mates are small eaters. I ordered the beef stew with a walnut sauce. The beef was wonderfully tender and the sauce was delicious with the gentle, not overwhelming flavor of walnuts. My spouse had the stuffed cabbage dish. I tried it. My goodness, the taste of the spices in the ground beef was flavorful and different. The beef was rolled into the soft yet firm cabbage that was very filling for my big guy. My 2 Vegan daughters had the beans in a clay pot. What an awesome presentation. The pot was served on a slate plate, accompanied by delicious pickled green tomatoes and red cabbage that I shared in, and terrifically tasting little white hominy corn breads that were rich in flavor. They really went to town on the beans saying what great flavoring they had. We went on to try 2 desserts that had been recommended- Honey Cake (oh my!) made in layers of crushed biscuits with layers of a condensed milk cream pudding. How yummy! We tried the traditional egg whites meringue type dessert filled with a creamy custard, topped with perfectly ripe berries and strawberries. It looked like a beautiful, delicious cloud! There's more dishes and desserts to be had and Im looking forward to returning to have them. I suggest reservations, bc even tho we went on a week night, the tables were full and turning over. I believe there is a back room but it was being used for a private party. Oh! And their House-made Strawberry Lemonade was perfect! Not too sweet or sour and just a little effervescent. read more
