In urgent need of care for my palm tree after a huge chunk of it fell on my neighbor's lawn I contacted a few tree care services for quotes, ArborTech being one of them. From the get-go it was apparent that this was the company to work with. Jim Nathan was quick to respond and answer all of my questions patiently and quickly. ArborTech came out in August to do the work that Jim Nathan had quoted on mid-July. I had none of the problems mentioned in other reviews. I was pleased with the trimming treatments suggested and with the quote, and the crew did amazing work, consulting with me about what I was after and leaving the place far cleaner than it was when they started! Half of the work was deferred maintenance--2 huge, sprawling magnolias. The other half was shaping a couple of tulip maples that had been pollarded by a previous owner and had become spindly and overgrown, plus cutting down a frond on a Queen palm. Along the way they also trimmed an overgrown flowering cherry and the dead parts of a New Zealand tea tree. The reason there are only 4 stars in my rating is that the crew arrived without proper equipment or personnel to trim the palm and the foreman seemed not to know what Jim had said needed to be done with the maples and magnolias. But overall, I am very satisfied and will be recommending them to others and going back to them, as needed. read more

We recently had a fruit tree begin to grow a fungus, so we consulted two arborists for advice. We were impressed with Jim's knowledge of the trees and his honesty about what he could say for sure and what he didn't know. Unlike the competitor, Jim was not eager to do widespread (and expensive) treatment of the land that did not seem to be necessary. Arbortech's bid was also slightly lower than the competitor for the same work. We felt confident enough that we also asked about an old, leaning pine tree on our lot as well. We had both the dead fruit tree removed and the pine thinned by an Arbortech team. We were able to schedule the work within a week. The team was very professional. They arrived on time, checked in with us, and got right to work. The tree removal was quick and easy. The pine tree trimming was impressive; a tree that always felt like an eye-sore is now airy and healthy-looking. I always figured we would have to cut the whole thing down someday, but it is clear that experience and knowledge is worth the cost. The team also did an excellent job cleaning up after their work; our yard looked better after they left than before they came. Hired ArborTech to trim some trees in our front yard. They handled the city permit, scheduled a date, showed up on that date, and did a good trim job. Unfortunately, some bricks were broken in one of our structures. This is where our good review takes a turn. The crew doing the trimming never mentioned that there was damage, but they had to see it while cleaning up as there were pieces of brick missing. We called to report the damage and were told an email would be the best way to contact. So we emailed, no response, we emailed again, no response, one more email and we finally got a call and a meeting time the next day. Next day, no show and no call to cancel. We emailed again asking what happened. Next day, a call and a new meeting time. This time they showed and looked over the damage. We were told they would look into how to fix it. He would contact us within 2 weeks. We never heard from them again and I doubt they will ever do anything. At the very least they could have refunded some of the cost so we could get it repaired. read more

They removed a Monterey pine tree from our property. The arrived as promised, walked me and my neighbor (an interested party; the tree hung over his roof) through the process and then proceeded to dismantle the tree in a way that I can only describe as performance art. A bunch of the neighbors assembled to watch these guys work. Definitely a professional job and the clean up afterwards underlined the attention to detail from these folks. We looked at three companies to do this job; Arbor Tech provided the most competitive bid, and their service is excellent value for money. read more

I love trees. One of the reasons I was willing to buy a house in Hayward (I grew up in this school district and know how poor it is) was because of the large backyard with three Deodar Cedars, ranging from about 40 feet to over 50 feet tall. I have had nearly a dozen estimates done over the last 9 years, for tipping back, thinning for light and penetration, canopy raising and weight reduction. I have had a few arborists visit who clearly knew their craft and many who seemed very inexperienced. Jim was very knowledgeable, could clearly explain the reasons for what he could and could not do, and was also permitted by the City of Hayward (the city's tree regulations and trimming permits are untenably expensive and annoying). I'm not going to lie, I thought the cost was high, but I knew it was in the ballpark of the best arborists I had spoken to, and they have the City Permit, so we hired ArborTech. And let me tell you, there is a big difference between cost and value. What a VALUE!! I'm looking out at my trees right now, about eight months after the work was done... I'm still super happy with the results. I know my trees, I have had other arborists perform work in the past. They look so much better now, I know the sunlight is getting into the interior, and they have less wind resistance now. I'm far less concerned about wind damage. When the crew showed up, they had about half a dozen guys, all the proper safety rigging, loads of equipment to do a proper job (others had basically just climbed up the middle cutting what they could reach... Not these guys). They were here for more than six hours. Got the three cedars fully done, and a sycamore in front of the house. Now, I hate that sycamore. It would be great next to a creek or something, but the HOA's and city's insistence on that tree being in front of my house angers me. It's going to ruin the water and/or sewer pipes, it's already lifting the sidewalk near a fire hydrant, and it drops dangerous pollen balls (and puts out of a ton of pollen all summer and all fall). Jim listened, told me why he couldn't just Pollard the hell out of it, and he was right. In the end, they did make it look much better and brought it back in over the lawn so at least it wouldn't drop so much on the sidewalk and driveway for a while. And I know I won't get a fine from the city. These guys know their stuff, know how to do a proper job, and will definitely get our business again. read more

I used ArborTech for tree trimming services recently and the experience was nothing but PAINFUL. Dale really need to listen to his customers needs and communicate it to his workers properly. It was painful right from the beginning inspite of paying lot of money. Junior the guy who comes to trim the trees acts/talks as if he is doing favor on you. He DOESN'T LISTEN. The Gregory who says that he runs the office when you call to complain says that "owner will call back to listen to your concern". Don't hold your breath for that call. I will NEVER use them again nor recommend them to anyone. Use them if you want to waste your money. read more

This company is incredible...with a simple phone call my 4 very, very big problem pines (like about 5 stories tall big) in my back storage yard came down within ONE day. The recent high winds put the kabosh on any prior rumblings to leaving the trees alone because of the shade they provided to the surrounding neighborhood. One big branch had ripped away due to the buffeting and luckily landed on my wall, inside of my yard. No people or their pets had been hurt, thank God. So now, instead of being shade trees, these pines had become a threat to life and safety...no question, they had to go. The ball got rolling the moment I called and spoke with very patient Gregory. The bossman Mr Dale, very quickly summed up the time, cost and a schedule for taking down the trees and on the appointed day and hour, his "A" team came loaded for bear. Lots of guys with heavy equipment who methodically removed branches and large limbs and then systematically sectioned the trees from top to bottom. The pines were quickly removed along with the stumps and any future problems of falling timber. I doubt any landscaping company could have done this job, and not nearly at the speed or with the expertise as ArborTech. My sincerest gratitude for their fixing my urgent problem. read more

Yah, it is just sawdust, but after the rain dried up, it was everywhere, including on a bunch of furniture I had just cleaned up for Spring time. I was planning to install solar panels and I needed some trees to be removed. I requested permit to remove those tree to City Of Fremont. Finally, I got permit 5 days before solar installation date. My husband Bret and I paid a lot of money for our front yard to be landscaped in Castro Valley. A redwood tree was removed and the driveway expanded. It looks nice but once the work contract was signed we felt Ron dropped the ball & his customer service skills. A few days, work crew did not show up and once work done Ron nor anyone else contacted us to check if we were happy. I contacted Ron twice recently to schedule the roots of one of the large trees to be shaved. Something that had been discussed initially. But Ron never responded. No Nay/Yay. ..I'm busy...not interested. ..nothing. I felt that this company is only interested in large commercial work. Residential customers are placed on the bottom of the list. We called Juan for a meeting to receive a quote for some landscaping work. The day before, we texted him to confirm our appointment for 9 am the next morning, but did not hear back. On the day of our appointment he did not show up so we called him. Juan said that he forgot and could make it at 2 pm. He called to let us know he was on his way around 1:30 pm but was a no show. We then called him at 2:45pm to cancel and he did not seem to care. I suspect that this is an indication of how they do work as well. They seem unprofessional, unreliable and do not care about the customer. read more

I've been calling on ArborTech for ten years now, and have always been very well served. They are highly knowledgeable professionals who do first-rate work in a timely manner and at a good price. Most recent experience: a 3+ year-old California Sycamore that had grown to 35 feet showed signs of a severe anthracnose infection last week. Not good. We loved that tree, and are only two weeks from the date that our home is to be on the Bay Friendly Garden Tour. ArborTech came out and confirmed my diagnosis. After some discussion about the poor prognosis (which I'd confirmed through my own research the night before), the sent a crew out, removed the tree, ground the stump, removed an adjacent tree, and installed a beautiful new (anthracnose-resistant) 24-inch-box (~12-foot-tall) London Plane sycamore. The crew was in and out, with everything cleaned up within the day. The replacement tree is beautiful, the price was right, and we're feeling good again about having our yard ready in time for the garden tour! We have some large ungainly bushes in our backyard. We hired ArborTech 2 years ago to trim them and they did such a great job we called them again this year. Once again, the estimator arrived promptly, gave us an estimate (which was very reasonable) and told us they'd call in a day or two to schedule the work. They called us the very next day and asked if the following morning would work for us, which was fine. The workers arrived right on time (a few minutes early, in fact), and got to work right away. I can't speak to ArborTech's actually services, just their consultation, which left kind of a bad taste in my mouth which is why I'm reviewing them. I'm a 30 yo first-time homebuyer in the Bay Area (which means I'm doin alright), but just bought my home a year ago, so I'm trying to improve things as I can. The guy that came by was honestly a little rude and kinda made me feel old and poor. It was weird. Not only that, but he called on the wrong day and told me he couldn't make it. I told him I wasn't expecting him until he next day, so he said he'd call me back to confirm when he could come by. He never called back. The next day, he calls and says he's running late. He shows up late, while I'm in a meeting. I work from home, so this all wasn't terrible. I was able to excuse myself and meet him. But if I worked in the city like I used to just a few months ago, at best he may have shown up when I wasn't home and at worst I would have taken a day off/work from home day to meet him and he'd be a no show. Just a little unprofessional all around. 2 stars because the woman that called me to set this up was actually really great and very polite, and seemed to care about what I wanted to do with my landscaping project. read more

I contacted ArborTech Tree Care regarding my sidewalk that had been lifted by my trees. Ron came out to give me a quote. It was about 54 square feet of lifted concrete- a trip hazard. I decided to go with ArborTech because their prices were competitive and the professionalism I received from Ron. The attitude that I got from him was that no job was too small or too big. The crew was on time and efficient. To my surprise they even grinded my two tree stumps down that had been cut by someone else. All in all I found this to be a very smooth and worry-free project. After a checkup he advised they where a bit stressed and what I have been doing was good and offered a suggestion to help even more. Arbortech earned my 5 stars for tree removal 1 year ago, so I returned to them for a large landscape project. They earned 5 stars again! This project was particularly challenging because they had to correct all the mistakes from the previous landscaper! Hugo and Kiki tackled drifting pavers that were directing water right to my doorstep. Sacho, Enrique, Hugo, and Kiki installed a beautiful maintenance-free xeriscape front yard, artificial turf and 2 sizes of river rock, with a bubbler system for a few drought tolerant plants, and some small bolders. They used an exceptional weed fabric and spread a degerminator first. The crew made sure the artificial turf had drainage gravel, filler, and even brought out the nap with a power broom! They also installed a second flagstone walkway, making sure each was balanced and level. Freddie relocated and reconstructed a manual irrigation system in my backyard, making sure there were no leaks and that every plant was covered by the drip system. I'm so grateful to Arbortech for hiring such competent, hardworking employees that paid attention to the details of the project and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. These people really know trees. They care and write a report showing the true structure of the tree and any problems the tree has. This is very important when you have a tree close to a structure. I have used Arbortech on 2 occasions and was completely satisfied each time. They removed a street tree that was lifting my driveway because of the intrusive root system. They got permission from the city and gave me a very reasonable quote. The city of Fremont actually recommends them on a list of companies because they have an arborist. Their price quote was the best. Recently I needed 2 huge redwoods removed as they were a hazard since one had a double trunk and was splitting. They were also able to get permission from the city to remove a very large pine tree that was located behind my property but also had a double trunk and could present a hazard if it split. The daily mess from these trees was another reason I really wanted to remove them. They did a quick, thorough removal and cleaned up everything. ArborTech gave me advice and a reasonable price. They arrived on the day, early, and completed most of the work in one day. That's special because when my neighbor got all whiney about another tree, they cut that one down the same day. They needed to come back to put the fence section back properly. That was done beautifully. A pipe on the neighbor's irrigation system was damaged; they repaired that also. My only suggestion would be better communication with the customer. I would have appreciated a call or email on Friday before the Monday appointment. In addition, the crew boss told me someone would be out for the fence the next day. When that didn't happen, I called the following Monday. They said they would come Thursday or Friday, and they came Thursday. read more

Jim gave me a bid within a couple of days. I had to wait a few months for the weather to be right to have my very neglected jacaronda tree pruned. George and his dad came out and did a phenomenal job. I'm a gardener myself and truly didn't think the tree could look as good as it now does.
