Why does this matter at all to a Yelp review? Well, it does. Because thanks to my travels, restaurants and cafes like this one make me prepared and ready for what is to come. Two trips to Canada and a trip to Paris prepare you for what you could expect at a creperie that also happens to sell waffles and frozen yogurt, and a few other things, but mostly dessert. Vancouver prepped me for the waffles. Quebec and Montreal prepped me for the crepes. The US has prepped me for the frozen yogurt. All this prepped me well when I ordered a sweet crepe and got a superb symphony of sweet flavors. Fantastic and fresh banana and strawberries, a very fresh Nutella topping, and a binding agent in a crepe! Next time I will order a savory and a sweet to see how it all goes, and maybe a waffle or two for good measure. I haven't eaten inside yet but I have now three times ordered the açaí bowl with the berries. I usually order via Yelp and the turn around time is very quick. I always get the açaí bowl triple berry with coconut shavings and peanut butter. It's a great sized portion, perfect for a good breakfast or post exercise. And it's a great price! read more

Arbuz Cafe in Sheepshead Bay exudes all the casual vibes a simple eatery could give. Meaning "watermelon" in a number of Eastern European languages (but in this case, Russian), they specialize in light foods ranging from crepes to waffles to desserts. The narrow interior is filled with two person table seaters and a long counter. Usually it's a number of young folks hustling to make coffee, cook breakfast, or arranging cake slices and/or crepes. It has a diner feel in a way but also like a cafe with WiFi and outlets to boot. Their pastries and simple breakfast foods are fine, but I think their crepes is where they shine (#1). The variety is pretty impressive with selections ranging from sweet to savory. I think their egg, cream cheese, and smoked salmon is personal favorite, even if it's practically $11. My second go-to would be the turkey, goat cheese, and baby spinach, followed by the classic egg, ham, and swiss. Aside from crepes, their waffles are incredibly popular. Folks are into the cream cheese and berries, or the nutella and berries, but I personally think their "Russian Caramel" with berries is the best one of the bunch. The secret weapon is condensed milk, which is damn good on a waffle. I would even go the extra mile and build my own, by adding peanut butter to it. For the uninhibited, this is a must try. They also offer acai bowls, froyo, paninis, and croissant sandwiches. I would heed caution to any of their bubble tea selection, try going for a milkshake or a smoothie instead. I realize it's a lot more costly, but the reward is a heartier drink made of actual fruit and not powder and sad tapioca balls. Service for the most part is good. They also offer delivery and from what I understand is a big part of their customer base. If I lived in Sheepshead Bay, I wouldn't put it past me to order from here occasionally. I was in Belgium 2 months ago and ever since returning, I've been missing Belgian waffles insanely and had unsatisfied cravings so I definitely had to try the waffles here. Suprisingly, they were actually quite similar to the waffles I had in Belgium. In fact, they were probably the closest amongst all the waffles I attempted during my quest to curb my cravings since returning. The biggest difference between the two would probably be that the exterior of the waffles in Belgium tend to be more crispy, giving off more crunch when bitten into, and also has a more caramelized sugar coating. How can you screw up a milkshake? I got there and in a second I knew I made a mistake. The place is very dark which gives it the appearance of it being closed. My wife and I looked at the menu at their "desserts" it was a variety of croissants and a brownie. Not sure why they just didn't just call it he croissants menu. They didn't have much flavors of gelato. When my wife asked if they could use yogurt instead of gelato for a milkshake the girl looked at her like she grew a second head. It was quite frankly a little rude. My wife decided to not order anything since she was upset. Since I didn't want to waste the cost of the Uber I took, I decided on a milkshake. Cookies and cream to be exact. But the girl used too much milk and very little gelato so my "milkshake" was really a shaker milk. In the end I would recommend you skip this place. When I walked in I immediately noticed this isn't a fro-yo shop. "Arbuz" has it all. I was amazed with the selection and the build your own cup style of service they offer. I was at heavens door, but was not allowed to pass, I saw all the beauty behind the glass, but it wasn't a cheat day. That's right, I was at the mercy of my diet. I can look but not touch. I mustard enough strength to get a milkshake however, "Arbuz" help me stick to my diet. The milkshake, cookies and cream, had no strong flavor! Was it organic? Was it sugar free? I don't know. But I figured, this could work for me. The staff was nice. A guy and girl with great social skills spoke to all the customers and help. They definitely made the visit pleasant. Also with the "L" shaped design, if you wanted to disappear for a few, you could just hide away in the back. This review is just based on the bubble tea. I bought the lychee bubble tea and when I took the first sip, it tasted all right. It had the artificial lychee flavor (which I like). The "tapioca" was not like the tapioca pearls I had in other bubble tea places. Usually the tapioca pearls that i've had in the past are soft and chewy, but this tapioca pearls tasted like hard jello with sugar. It would just break apart when I chew on them. It was such a weird texture. When I got half way through my bubble tea, it started to taste like watered down tea. it was so watered down that it started to lose the lychee flavor. It was almost like 90% water and 10% flavor. ps. this drink gave me an upset stomach at work. that was fun. read more

Great service! The beau and I happened to walk by on a scorching hot day and decided to get some boba to cool down. He got the jasmine green tea with bubbles, I ordered lychee with no bubbles. Anyways, I took a sip of my lychee and noticed that the tapioca balls weren't the ones that I was used to. The texture wasn't chewy.. It had this jelly-like texture that broke off in your mouth each time you bit on them and they tasted.. brown sugary if that makes any sense. Brown sugar has a different flavor compared to the white ones and if you know what I'm talking about that's what it tasted like! So I made this hehhh-da-heck-is-this face as I took my first few sips. But I eventually got used to it and realized that I liked it! I think one of the girls behind the counter noticed me making that hehhh-da-heck-is-this face and later asked if I wanted some lychee balls--you know, the small transparent looking balls that pop in your mouth and dispenses some sweet gooey liquid. I did not intend to make this sound so sexual but let's just all be adults ok? Anyways, so she asked and then brought them out in this little cup saying that mine would taste better with it. Now mind you, I didn't order any extra toppings with my drink but she offered after noticing that I wasn't used to the taste/texture of the tapioca balls that they use. So nice and thoughtful of her! Overall, I loved the lychee flavor. It was refreshing and had the right amount of sweetness to it. I also got used to their balls and ended up liking it lololls. This place is super cute for breakfast and their crepes are really good. One of my favorites is the nutella strawberry crepe. The crepe was super thin and fresh because they make it right in front of you. They give a generous amount of nutella and they put cut strawberries on top of the nutella before they fold it up. However their froyo was really lack luster. It was too tart and the flavors were really boring. Their coffee wasn't all too great either. It was too acidic even with copious amounts of milk in it. Other than the crepes, this place is sub-par and there a bunch of other places that you can go to in the area to get better breakfast.
