Extra cheese sauce on the side

Yes, Arby's still exists in Ottawa! The only one now, though. Not sure how many people actually eat here, but I do hope enough so that it sticks around. People don't generally seem to be fans of Arby's, but I love their beef 'n cheddar and get cravings from time to time. I don't usually spend much time in Kanata, but my husband and I had an appointment in the area and I wasn't shy to share my morning craving. Yea, you read that right - morning. We showed up at 10:15am, just after they opened, to fill my beef 'n cheddar craving (and weren't judged for it!). I made the mistake of ordering the double size, rather than the original. There's definitely more beef, of course, but the meat to cheese ratio was off. So, naturally, I asked for more cheese on the side. There were only two staff, one behind the counter and the cook. The woman at the counter may have been in the washroom or something, but the cook was more than happy to come up front and help me. He gladly gave me a little container of the cheese sauce and it was just what I needed. I added some to my sandwich and also used it to dip my curly fries into. Splitting the fries with my husband was definitely the way to go. The beef 'n cheddar already comes with a bit of "red ranch" (Arby's sauce, as we actually call it) in it, but I always get some more, plus "horsey sauce" (creamy horseradish), on the side. Dipping the curly fries in them makes sense, I just wouldn't order the loaded curly fries - trust me, that is not a food hangover you want. The restaurant seemed cooler in temperature, and the building itself old, but the service was really, really great. They were both very friendly and our meal was made with care, no stingy portions or excess grease. I prefer it over the one in Kingston for sure!

The Nashville hot fish sandwich was pretty darn good. The dishwater coffee filled with a cm of grounds on the bottom was disgusting.

I had to pay upon ordering, cringed but left a tip as how do I know it will be great, right?! Paid with Visa and made it right to the place at the 15 min mark. It was ready to go. Killed me not to get fries but trying to be Spring-body ready! Haha! Just a hamburger, no cheese, loaded with veg and only hot sauce as a condiment. Love their raw onion. I tried on line as I was between appointments and inside the resto takes time to make. This just worked out and I'm so tempted to order another one. ;) I live too close to here!

The texture was the same throughout and I might even venture to say that the fries are actually far below average. I got the Cajun fries so I might want to try the regular ones before I write of their fries forever. Service was great - very quick and everyone was really nice. There is one thing that will bring me back here- it's the peanuts! These peanuts that are given away for FREE in an all-you-can-eat format were actually some of the best peanuts I've had! Next time I come, I am going to see if they have onion rings. For a place that specializes in just two things, they got to get their fries right.

Servers at counter all looked like they wished they were elsewhere. They need to wipe down the food area. What a mess. Surprising for a new place and at 2pm it wasn't busy. Burrito wasn't wrapped well. Salad looked... Like salad with beans. No pizazz. Lol. No cilantro? Make sure you watch carefully as you select your toppings as they don't give a flying squirrel and will skip everything to save themselves $. Expensive burrito. With questionable guac. Water cup. $18. Good size but too goopy if you save half for later. I moved from California recently where this place had a cult like following. Too bad. It could be SO much more. Technically that makes it a 3.5; I could live with that. I like this place so much that I'm surprised I haven't written a review for it yet! Let's remedy that now... We usually get one of their skewer platters (souvlaki), and we tend to rotate between the chicken, pork, beef, or lamb. The salad is not gargantuous, but big enough, and tasty too and contains lettuce, a couple of slices of wedgie tomatos, a couple of black olives with pits still in them, feta cheese, and onions. The chicken souvlaki I had was very tasty and I LOVED the tzatziki! There was plenty of rice, and a couple of potato halves. This meal is filling enough and comes to about $11 per person. Bonus: You save the nearly $2 delivery charge by picking up the order yourself. They do have a few tables for 2 or 4 people if you did want to eat in, but mainly their biggest business is their take out service/delivery. We've eaten here often, and will definitely be back again.

Bad judgement prevents them from chanhgig what most are complaining about. Not a good sign. I should have read more into that. We persisted on a paper menu of which they have few copies so we were sharing with others. SLOW service. Decent kabobs but should be for pork and chicken 5 bites of meat for $8. Lamb $11. The Greek vegetable salad elsewhere I normally LOVE. Reviewed with them that it was no lettuce and the usual veg. BUT at home we had a styrofoam box filled with UNripe tomaoto quarters, 30 of them, 4 round rings or red onion, 4 olives, and 4 1 inch thin slices of feta cheese. Good dressing but really no salad to put it on. Threw most f the tomatoes out,m and had a few bites of the salad, but it hadn' sufficient ingredients to be enjoyable - or nutritious. WASTE of money. 3 small pieces of spanokopita were tasty. In all for $58, not enough to eat and very ordinary. We should have used the crazy fast menu board as our warning that common sense is lacking here throughout. We won't return.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Cute little place in Stittsville…read moreselling tasty soups and sandwiches. The Long Version: I had lunch at Wiches Cauldron recently and it was great. I got the Chicken Sandwich ($15.95). It was sliced real chicken breast meat, mozzarella cheese, mixed greens, cucumbers, picked onions and fig jam. It usually comes with mayo, but I asked them to omit it. All sandwiches come with a mini 4 oz soup. I chose the curried carrot and squash soup. The sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a Kaiser and it's from Carp Bakery. It was soft and very fresh. I loved that the meat was real chicken and not deli meat. The fig jam was tasty and gave the sandwich a nice sweet taste. The soup was a bit watery, but was full of flavour. It had a strong curry flavour and the coconut milk in it made it a bit creamy. I enjoyed it. Funny story: I ordered the chicken sandwich. They ask your name for the order. The lady who ordered after me also got the chicken sandwich but she asked for no cheese. The cashier announced to the kitchen "no cheese on the chicken sandwich" and the kitchen asked "which order? Jennifer's?" And the cashier said "no, the next one, I haven't punched it in yet." Lol. I chimed in "I love cheese, I definitely want cheese on my sandwich!" The man in the kitchen said "alright, extra cheese for Jennifer!" And the lady after me said "yeah, you can have my cheese." Haha. So I got two slices of cheese in my sandwich. Score! Lol. Everyone working there was super nice and friendly. It's a small place, so the cash and the kitchen are right next to each other. I took my order to go, but there's seating to dine in. I noticed they have a small amount of branded merchandise, like baseball caps. There is free parking in their private parking lot at the back of the restaurant. Fun facts: The Wiches Cauldron started off as a food truck in the early/mid 2010s. Some time in the early 2020s they moved into their present location which was Red Gables Creperie before (it was also briefly Red Gables Ramen before they rebranded and started selling crepes instead of ramen).
