Just another 5 star update. 2nd visit only but used the on line ordering system this time. That is hit and miss at most places but it worked out great and I'd use it again here. I had to pay upon ordering, cringed but left a tip as how do I know it will be great, right?! Paid with Visa and made it right to the place at the 15 min mark. It was ready to go. Killed me not to get fries but trying to be Spring-body ready! Haha! Just a hamburger, no cheese, loaded with veg and only hot sauce as a condiment. Love their raw onion. It always comes down to the fries..... I thought the burgers were decent and were.....burgery. Let's talk about the fries, they weren't crispy on the outside and velvety on the inside like we all want a delicious fried potato to be. The texture was the same throughout and I might even venture to say that the fries are actually far below average. I got the Cajun fries so I might want to try the regular ones before I write of their fries forever. Service was great - very quick and everyone was really nice. There is one thing that will bring me back here- it's the peanuts! These peanuts that are given away for FREE in an all-you-can-eat format were actually some of the best peanuts I've had! Next time I come, I am going to see if they have onion rings. For a place that specializes in just two things, they got to get their fries right. read more

I will start by saying the burgers are good with many topping options. I never order fries so I cannot comment on them. The cost of a burger is extremely high but what's worse is when you go to pay and the terminal is asking for a tip. This is being asked BEFORE I even get my food. Isn't a tip supposed to be used when one has received good service and good food? How are you supposed to give them a tip when you really received no service and you haven't eaten any food there yet? This business practice seems a little insane to me. The nerve of them asking for tips with burger prices already so high and no real service and no food consumed. You can always press the skip tip button. However, does that mean they're going to delay the making of your burger or maybe foul up the food? Who knows. The only time I ever pay a tip is when I've received good service and good food. I'm just not going to charge extra money to my credit card when I haven't received anything. This is a very bad business practice and I don't feel comfortable going into this restaurant anymore because of this really bad business practice and I hope that other customers will feel the same way. This needs to be stopped because it's gotten out of hand. It's just greed. If I wanted to pay a tip, I would go to a sit down restaurant and order a burger and get served at my table. If the food is good, and the service was good, then I'll pay a tip. That's the way it is supposed to work. Part of the reason why people go to a fast food restaurant is because they don't want to have to pay a tip. It's supposed to be a less expensive way to eat out. Don't feel intimidated by these machines asking for a tip when they've provided nothing. Either stop going there like me or press SKIP. read more

I came back again for lunch with my coworkers, and was seriously disappointed! Of myself and four coworkers, they screwed up on three orders! If burger-customization is supposed to be the thing that makes them so great, they cannot afford to screw up on that!! For shame! A few of us recently did a Ottawa burger showdown to declare the best burger joint burger in town. A few lazy Yelpers (I'm hoping they review) were along for the showdown. Our list included Hintonburger, Veras and Five guys. Our burger baseline would be a burger with a slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato and a few condiments of your choice. We omitted bacon because Hintonburger has to way awesome of bacon. After an afternoon of driving around Ottawa and eating burgers that Five Guys is not in the same league as the other two especially having them around the same time frame. It's a solid fast food burger but doesn't compare to the other two places especially when the price is so similar. read more

I do not frequent burger joints very often, but when I do, it's gotta be good! Service here is fast and pleasant. The restaurant is a bit loud and noisy, a great place for kids. Not fine dining by any means, but the portions are large and the burgers are generous. I had a veggie burger which was a bit mushy for my taste, but my hubster got a burger and was surprised that there were 2 patties. These creations are build as you go - many choices for toppings. And the fries are already salted, so taste them before you add more salt. PS: I would come back to this fine establishment again. Simple menu, GREAT BURGERS! Plan and simple burgers and dogs built the way you want it with only the freshest ingredients. You can really taste the fact that nothing in the place is frozen (except the ice in the drink machine). We went around 7 pm during a week day and the line was out the door. It took about 15 mins for our meal after our order was placed, but this was mostly due to a 8 member family order ahead of us. On average for that day they were doing about 1 order every 2 min and I was amazed how fast and organized they were even under the heavy order load. TIP: Servings are large. Regular burgers are double, little burgers are singles, and large fries are enough to serve 3-4 people easy. read more

The food was generally OK. The fries were really good but there was nothing special about the burgers, and burger portions were on the small size. One issue that we had with our visit though is that one of the staff members did not say the truth when asked a question about food preparation, as we later saw them doing what she said they would not do. 5 guys was amazing! I didn't actually eat in this time, I ordered off skip the dishes and they were unable to provide me with a driver after I had ordered and waited almost an hour. I stopped by on the holiday Monday around 830 and was greeted by the friendliest guy. Honestly I was a little shocked just because it being a holiday I know how these kinda days drag on but he looked/sounded like he was having so much fun. Went here for lunch and honestly found it a bit underwhelming for all the hype it gets. I had a Little Bacon Cheeseburger and we shared a large fry and a drink. The drink had free refills, which was great. The fries are an amazing portion and tasted amazing. They still had the skin and according to the sign at the restaurant, were from Montague Farms in PEI. The burger however was disappointing. I found it just barely better than a McDonalds burger, with fresher toppings. Definitely not worth the price you pay for the burger alone. Another thing that I didn't like about the place is the incessant amount of reviews posted in and around the restaurant. I would understand if these were related to that location in particular, but none of them were. All the reviews and quotes posted are from locations in the U.S. and none were more recent than 2009, with the oldest being from 1991! It seems more as a tactic to build the brand up to a higher standard. I didn't feel the reviews in the restaurant were relevant to that location in particular, nor did I find them particularly enlightening, as a review from 6 years previous does not give me a good idea as to what the state of the restaurant is like. read more

Just came back from the new Five Guys Burgers and Fries on Hazeldean Rd. in Kanata and I'll give them a good solid 4 stars. Myself and three co-workers went at lunch on a nice Friday at noon. The lineup was out the door, but they put people through fairly quickly. It was only 15 minutes from the end of the line until our first bite, so all in all, not too bad. And the peanuts were a fun diversion. We all had the "little" burger, which was more than enough, especially when you factor in the huge order of fries. I had a bacon cheeseburger which was really good, but I can't bring myself to say it was great. It reminded me of a burger from a really good diner, which again is a good thing, but not great. I like burgers with lots of seasoning in the meat. When we have burger night at home, the burgers are special. We season them with onions, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and more, so I like flavour. We debated whether the patty was seasoned or not, so if it was, it was mild. But I'll repeat, it was a good burger, and it was made fresh with real ground beef. The toppings were fresh and generous, and with items you can't get in other burger places, such as grilled mushrooms (which, according to my coworker "rock on a burger"), grilled onion, jalapenos, hot sauce and more. The bun was fresh and soft and didn't dwarf the patty...I don't like big buns (insert your own joke here). It's like when you have pulled pork or a lobster roll, the meat should be the star; not the bun. I had read reviews that said a regular order of fries could feed two people, but when we looked at the sample container up on the menu board, we all thought, "that's not much", so we each got our own...bad move. Believe the reviews: a regular order is a lot of fries. They fill the container and bag, just like others have said. The cajun seasoning is excellent, and the fires were long and crisp and golden brown. None of us found the fries to be overly salty, in fact, I'd say they were perfectly seasoned. The music was loud, but not overly so, and I like it that way, so I had no issues with it. Just keep an ear out for your order number. We all gave it a solid 4 out of 5 stars, and we all said we'd be back. read more

The good......well, it wasn't the worst burger I had. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, small fry, and regular drink. Just shy of $15. It came out the way I ordered it...enough frys for two people and free refills on the drink. But....I left there thinking that it was just an okay burger. Maybe a notch over McDonalds or burger king...but not worth the price. And after eating at a 2 different 5 guys in Orlando and Miami....not the same burger...something was missing. Will I go back??? Decently good burger with excellent topping selection. The grilled cheeses are a little small for the price. The fries are great and you get so many it's kind of hard to guess what you should order so you don't waste any! The peanuts while you wait are great, and free refills on pop is a nice touch if you dine in. The 50's burger joint feel is clean and bright but they play "retro" tunes from when I was in high school (late 90's) so that's sort of a funny mix of nostalgia. read more

Great juicy burger, abundance of fries and peanuts shells on the floor! seriously, littering is wrong unless you allowed to do it! Everything is cooked in peanut oil and the portion sizes are quite large. The staff is friendly and the place is nice and clean. As far as chain joints go, this one is worth visiting. read more

Mmmmm... I've been to Five Guys once or twice a month since they opened and I dropped in to see what my American friends were hyping this place for. I wasn't disappointed. I'll start with the food, obviously. The burgers consist of two medium-sized patties and a wide array of toppings. I'd say the patties are just alright. They aren't bad, but I guess they have to cook them medium to well, and I've found them to be a bit overcooked on occasion. The bun is unfortunately soft and fragile - which would normally be fine with me - because the bun shouldn't dominate the burger. But they wrap it in tough tinfoil which ends up squushing the bun pretty badly and deforming the burger a bit when you unwrap it. The toppings are the highlights. You get to choose from stuff like sauteed mushrooms and onions, steak sauce, fresh jalapenos, and all the expected regulars. I suggest passing on the sauteed veggies, as they tend to make the foot of the bun a bit floppy and messy. The fresh jalapenos are what keep me coming back. Quite a kick without the pickly taste you normally get on jalas. Mm! My review of the burger mostly highlighted the negatives, but it is an overall positive burger. I don't think it needs the optional bacon or cheese, but that's a personal preference. The fries are absolutely fantastic. They are simply cut-and-cook with a light dash of salt and a Cajun option. But they come out exquisitely. I think NY Fries is a good comparison. And yes, they are incredibly generous with the fries. One regular size order can easily satisfy two people. The only other menu item they offer is hotdogs. They aren't jumbo dogs, just regular-sized hotdogs sliced down the middle and served up with all the toppings you can get on the burgers. They are actually very good. Note that everything is made fresh. They don't start cooking the patty until you order it. So you will be waiting at least 10 minutes for your food. But you can snack on free peanuts while you wait! More variety would be nice. I know their thing is "burgers and fries and nothing else", but a chicken sandwich would probably go a long way. And their fries would make killer poutine. People complaining about the prices could probably just order more smartly. Don't spend an extra $2.50 or whatever getting cheese and bacon on your burger... it just doesn't need it. And one regular order of fries is fine for two people. Skip the drinks if you are taking out. Do this, and you can feed two for $16 or so pretax, which is perfectly reasonable. This is a high four stars. For what you generally expect from fast food, this place vastly exceeds expectations. The star is lost on the squushed burger, the lack of variety, and the somewhat high prices. Although those are all relatively minor negatives and I am probably being too harsh. Worth the trip if you don't live out west, and worth many trips if you live in Stittsville, like me! read more

Went there quite often never bothered to write a review !?! I guess when things are good we take them for granted. However, recently they change their patties. Nice thick juicy dark in color a bit raw in the middle!!! That's the past. Try flower shape skinny dry overcooked. Probably because beef price went up 20% and they decided to keep the same price for their burgers. Bottom line the company is running on the fumes of good reputation thay got - not sure how long will that last. They want to portrait themselves as an honest all-for-the-customer type of business. I was always sort of a hamburger every 6 months kinda person - but I think that has changed. I really loved this burger and the fries were over flowing and delish! Fresh toppings and even my picky - doesn't really like hamburgers 4 year old ate the whole thing. Go with an appetite - portions are big. The only thing missing was a milk shake - not on the menu, but sure would top off a yummy meal like this. went today to see what all the talk was about.....just ordered the burger so can't comment on the fries..... took the burger home and opened it up....surprised at two patties, didn't realize when i ordered it....i liked the bun, and the mushrooms and onions however the patties i didn't care for....i was pretty shocked they weren't being cooked on a grill (open flame) - i found it really greasy, like mcdonald's but worse and the patties didn't have seasoning. i think there are alot better burgers (the butchery, hintonburger, baja burger to name a few), maybe my expectations were too high but i can't shake the grease thing. i love my burgers crisped on the outside and med rare on the inside and i just don't find you can do that without the open flame. read more

Oh man! I stopped in for takeout and ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries. The burger is quite possibly the best burger I have eaten in Ottawa. My son was looking for a job and was invited in to this location for a "training" shift. He was told what the dress code was (which included non-slip black dress shoes at $70). We assumed that this meant he was hired. They worked him for a 3 hour shift and ended up not hiring him. Burgers may be okay buy thr poor business ettiqette is enough for me to avoid going back.
